This Cross Country Trip Did Not Go As Planned! Tesla Model 3 Performance

Apr 09, 2020
Hello and welcome to off spec driving,

this

is part three, but actually part two, driving a

cross

the

country

in the

model

three. We're actually in Fremont, California. I was at the Tesla factory all day and then we're going back home. North Carolina right now, when I last left you, I was in Phoenix, Arizona, on my way to CES and I said I'd do another middle road video from Phoenix to San Diego. I have the feeling of being confused, send to San Diego where we are. We stayed and it really wasn't that hectic I drove from Phoenix to Las Vegas stopped in Kingman stayed overnight in Arizona went to CES for a couple of days I had a blast it was crazy how cool

this

technology is so Of course, I had some meetings then We came to San Diego, we had great conversations with the Neo executive team, we spent hours at Lucid and I can't talk about anything, but it's amazing what they're doing, really amazing things and spending time with Peter Robinson, the CEO of course which was just a surreal experience and to top it all off we spent today at the Tesla offices and ended with a tour of the Fremont facility where a

model

3s There are so many crazy things going on right now that We're sitting in a Burger King right down the street from Tesla headquarters and we're going back to North Carolina about 2900 miles or so and I don't know how long it's going to take, but let's look at the navigator, we are here. they're going home let's see how long oh my god this is pretty far mmm the

trip

planner has been incredibly fast oh I think that's crazy we're going back to Kettleman City we stopped there on the way up, crazy, crazy, 40 stalls v3, but that looks good and then we're going to take this kind of intermediate route and the reason we can't just continue on i-40 around here is because there are new superchargers On this section of the highway, it is actually the last section in the United States. on busy roads that do not have superchargers.
this cross country trip did not go as planned tesla model 3 performance
I've talked to the guy in charge of this at Tesla and he's working really hard to put points everywhere but it's crazy this hasn't happened until now, we're stuck in the worst traffic ever seen in Gilroy, California, this continues for miles, literally, to the end. We've been stuck ever since. It was sunny when we started this and now it's nighttime so it's not the way we need to start this road

trip

, but it is what it is. Okay, we're hiding in Kettleman City. I love this place, it's great, go big 200 kilowatts, that's good as long as we can stay here and basically don't break the connection between the charger and the battery with the contactors.

More Interesting Facts About,

this cross country trip did not go as planned tesla model 3 performance...

Look at these two. one hundred nine ten kilowatts Wow, this is good, let it go, let's plan our next stop in Kettleman City, it's 7:30 p.m. wants us to go to Mojave, yeah Mojave, I could look here and see that too and then to Barstow hmm we'll be there and then to Baker, this Baker, you know we'll be there at midnight so we can stay, let's say he can stay somewhere place between Baker and Kingman, which would be good because if we can avoid Kingman, this is a terrible supercharger. That's always the best way to describe Kingman.

It's slow all the time, so I think even here the battery hits because it's cold. so yeah let's try to push it this way there's a lot of superchargers in between so we'll just go here until it drops below a hundred hundred kilowatts or something like that whatever we're comfortable with rip it out and stay at spend the night somewhere. south of Las Vegas, well I don't think it's my car, I do think it's just that the software for version 3 needs help and this is pretty impressive, this whole line that goes all the way to the end, they're all version three, they're all versions two are here.

The whole place is great, of course you know they have the indoor lounge. You get a little code on the screen that you enter when you walk into the room and I don't know if it's a rolling code, but these are all solar panels. There are 40 add-ons in total and it's just a glimpse of this beautiful place. It's interesting. It does not work in five minute increments. I've only seen this on version three superchargers. He does it for minutes. I don't know why this is different logic for V 3 versus V 2 hmm, but let's see, it's from Kettleman City to Mojave.
Okay, looks like we're going to do a longer load here. It's nice because I can hang out at the cafe and get something. snacks, I buy a Tesla brand coffee, I don't know, but I don't like coffee so I probably won't do that to Mojave. This one, let's see how many miles it is exactly, you know, it eliminates all the charging stops 135, so we'll go up to 65%, yeah, because we won't make it. I was really flying to get here, but we're not really going to make it, so we'll give it another 5 minutes, so I just sat here carrying a little bit. a little more than necessary again, we are not in a big hurry, we are not charging very fast or at 60 kilowatts.
I've been planning our loads, but look at this, this is a little strange, it has us going down 40 here and then I veer all the way up and around at 15. I guess it's really not much further, but normal navigation, like the ways Apple maps Google Maps, they all say to just stay at 40, which is what I'm used to, so you know. I've been to Yermo. I've never actually been to Barstow, but I think we could go to Barstow, stretch it out to the needles. I've been on this charger and then we're on the Cannonball route that I've done before and then. maybe we can spend the night in Needles or Kingman again.
I mean, it will be late, but it seems like a better plan than going through the middle of nowhere, so mmhmm, yeah, we'll see, I think we'll get to Barstow and We can make our decision from there, how far is Barstow? 203 miles. Yes, we'll do a quick recharge along the way in Mojave and then head to Barstow. Sounds like a good plan. That way, we can leave now. Do it. there 12% it's quite difficult to get here we just used all the extra juice we had in pure speed. I guess we'll take this one, it doesn't really matter, they're always so tight to get in, I don't know how to model.
Ax owners do it right it's time to look at VIN brett 3% this is a version to supercharge so good oh sorry I ran into you back it up here we go Juicin perfect loading here no problem this is a great speed, it will increase to 11% at maximum load options we are looking north on this Barstow here we go now I don't know what the distance is from Barstow to Needles but I can and will look at the elevation change because it really doesn't make sense. to get up here and then all these back roads to Kingman, I think we should try to push it from Barstow to Needles, so at least we get here and then maybe spend the night there with a full load or maybe we will.
I did it along the way, but it's been a fantastic charging session so far. I did some research now that I've done the Kingman. I have to say the needles to Barstow, well we actually went to your month and it's quite hilly. This whole section can get pretty windy, so I think what our plan was: we're going to go to Barstow and we're going to avoid this mess, we're going to go to the needles and we're going to do a really long charge at Barstow just to be safe, there is no reason not to do it. and because there are no rescue options around here, literally nothing, so we're just going to do a pretty deep charge when we were in Cannonball Run, we loaded up with needles and then we weren't going to make it to Barstow, so we had to bail out and load here with your mom, but mmm, yeah, this should be fine, no problem.
I don't know why he keeps wanting to take us. Well, this happened in a short time. Yes, I'm eating jerky. We are sharp. We charged a little more than necessary because we were getting good speeds, so why not? So let's go to Barstow, man. I feel like we were here for like two minutes, that's crazy. Alright. I needed more time to do things. Good news. I'm taking him to the bars today to make an announcement, no problem, but he was getting a little tired, it's 10:30 at night, but you know, I'm still on east coast time, it's really like 134 for my brain, so I found a hotel. the last one before I got to Kingman Arizona, which is where I stayed on the way to Las Vegas, so I probably would have chosen the same hotel, but the one in Barstow has a charging point, they charge you 24 cents per kilowatt-hour, that's it Well, I'll just plug in the car charger and honestly, all the free electricity I get is no problem and the hotel is only $48.
I mean, can you believe it's a clean room? I wish it was a Days Inn. I mean, them. Oh boy, you're not a completely free breakfast, so $48 can't beat it. I'll get a good night's sleep and we'll hit the road in the morning, but let's get out there first and connect. Look at this, it's not bad. the only hotel with a charger in the area we have a pool, you know, it's a good area because I literally couldn't get in to check it out. I had to use the window but it's okay once the card charges up to 20% I can become a sentinel. activated mode, this is what happens, this is just a six kilowatt charger at 30 amps on the line voltage, which is 208 volts with a little drop, we are pulling 204, so it's like a 12 charge hours, it's 11 p.m.
It won't charge fully overnight with this, but that's okay, you'll know whatever we get and if we need to run to the supercharger in the morning we can do that, but I doubt we'll unpack it, go to sleep and I'll see. you in the morning and so, the next morning we will stay, as I mentioned, in Barstow, which is in the middle of the Mojave Desert, but right now it is below freezing, the car has been charging all night with the charge of six kilowatts. Hotels on point need charging at 48am at least because we are only at 80% which is fine.
I'll see if we can make their needles or we'll run to the supercharger and there might be Starbucks next to the supercharger so that works fine but I'll see this hotel wasn't bad for $49. I'm alive amazingly and now let's see how far we can take it. It's like 8:30 in the morning. I slept a little more than I wanted, but Hey, now we're off to have some fun, so let's get in the car and if you see here, it's okay to do the needles as expected, so we're going to head out and not go to the supercharger, so I will try not to hit. this person and then we'll go, oh yeah, right on our route, we didn't even have to deviate an inch.
Excellent way to start the day. Plus, this series of six is super clean. Have you ever seen these things so clean? It's great while we've been in neutral for I don't know three miles, I guess two miles ahead, that's just taken our speed and honestly this is the most efficient way because you have no losses when holding or loading, you're just going. towards which It's great, it's very windy outside, but yeah, we're in this, it's kind of phlegm, it just goes down without using any energy. Perfect synchronization. Perfect charging condition. Ten percent will increase at eleven.
The last time I was here it was one hundred and seventeen degrees. One change, the supercharger kit was so hot on that trip that we had to shift so many times because these poor little cables were melting, so let's see how this one works, these superchargers work so hard here in the desert. the equipment is that it overheats a lot, well let's see how we do, we have gradually reduced to one hundred and thirteen kilowatts, it says we will get there at 13%, the trip planner wants to give us more profit margin, but let's see how many miles it is just for so we can make sure it's 62 miles, everything will be fine, we'll get to 14% if we continue well, turn 93, let's go with an average range of 30+ miles 154 I'm sure there's crazy elevation here, but even at 48% We'll be able to go 62 miles even if it's uphill to the moon, so let's log out and get out of here and we'll be back in Kingman Arizona, one of the most notorious speed traps in the US. 10% and we're increasing the load.
This is an older charger capped at 120 kilowatts so I'm not expecting too much, but if we can increase it, I mean it's already great to have 90. I was here the other day on my way to Las Vegas and 90 is all I would do, but it's okay, we're having a good time, let's see what happens when I say, let's go home, there are two other cars here, of course, there's that Model S in those nice p100 d arachnids and then a Model 3 over here we're all in different cabinets, so this is perfectly spaced, so you want to go to Flagstaff.
I don't think there are chargers in the middle, let's take a look, no there aren't, oh come on, this is always annoying when you're in this mode, yeah, in Flagstaff, the next 135 miles will charge up to, I don't know, 50 60 percent, maybe get a quick snack and yeah, it should be pretty good now that we're looking at 91 kilowatts, that's all you can really hope for. this charger, again has super high temperatures, it goes over one hundred and ten degrees and the chargers just lock up. The new technology of version threesolves a lot of these problems, but we just have to wait for these roots to be updated, probably sometime in 2020.
Well, these old chargers are slow, this will probably be our worst charge of the trip unless we hit traffic and with another one of these we are in the internal load profile of the cone point, so now it makes no difference if we were on. V 3 V 1 V 2 it doesn't really matter this is all the car can handle so we're fine, it just took a little while to get to this point and by a little time I mean, I don't know, 15 minutes no. It's a big deal so next we're going to Flagstaff which will be busy and we may have to share it but I was there and I think it was a cool supercharger.
I don't really remember, maybe I don't know, but we won't make you understand, we'll do it at minus four, so we have to charge up to 70% to get to 6% or so, so maybe 75% will be It's quite a long charge, they really need a version 3. Here we have a charge up to the 10 %. We do not have a load of up to 10%. We are up to 77 percent charged, but our rival's state of charge is now 11 percent. This seems to be busy. supercharger we're headed to, which means we'll have to share, but that's okay, we're getting 57 kilowatts, no big speeds now, let's log out and go.
I guess so, there's no reason to sit here anymore. I'm a little bored looking at this. Carl's son. let's change the scenery let's have a beautiful drive two hours to the next one we're halfway to Flagstaff and a little update I drove too fast plus some headwind I checked the Windy app so anyway let's take it easy Now, driving towards Padilla, I was driving at 85, which is normally fine, but surprisingly, from west to east, you normally have a tailwind, but now we have a headwind, so let's take it easy, pick up the speed a little now same just to make sure we'll make it, says we'll get to 3%, which, oh, that was a crazy bump, oh, I think the car's fine, tire pressure's holding steady, man, oh, wait , losing pressure in the tires, we'll stop, a tire may have blown out, okay? stop let's take a look oh yeah this sucks okay I should probably get up there but man that was a crazy pothole it's beautiful here I got to somewhere a little safer it's really windy weather for the tires though I've never seen that before, that's crazy.
That's why you definitely want the right size tires. These are cheap aftermarket rims but nevertheless we put them on for testing, they're only $77, honestly not bad, but you can see that even though they are factory size, they did. It doesn't stick out, pass it over and the wheel just sunk in here. I don't hear him losing air. He says it's the same 32 psi as when we drew, so I'm thinking maybe we'll get back on the road to the next rest stop. To try and get some air into it, maybe it just created a loop and then pressurized again.
I'm not sure. I think before we jump on the highway we should drive it to make sure it's okay, so it still shows 32, but. You haven't adjusted the other pressures, it still drives well, it was at low speed. I don't want to drive too much because we still have to get to the direct destination as our navigation shows, but that doesn't worry me, I know. I can get there if I drive normally so no problem the car drives fine oh but when I turn it loses air. I can hear what I hear when I press it so turning right is not good but left is good so "We are in the middle of nowhere we are just losing air 28 psi oh man this is not good let's go back to this law this is route 66 runs here okay okay is there any town near the nearest town what what this doesn't make sense we're not doing this in Flagstaff okay yeah it's better I don't see no town here.
Oh, Ash Fork is an urban area of Ash Fork. They probably have a tire inflator, so it's five miles if I keep the speed down. Will we be? Okay, I don't know, can we take Route 66, the road we're on here? I don't think so. I think 40 is part of 66. Okay, this is our only option. We'll have to call a tow truck. either way, but let's try this, okay, after playing a little with it, it seems like it only happens if I turn right and the tire digs into the wheel. I can feel the car pulling to the left, but the tire pressure stays at 55, so let's take it with a grain of salt.
Be careful, avoid some potholes and do not turn right. We can't do this all the way home and it's on the side wall so I need to find a tire in Flagstaff. We go to the next exit as a leg. Ash Fork is a small town and we're going to at least put some air in it and see if we can limp along like that, but I imagine a blowout could happen if we hit a big enough pothole, so I'm geared up and ready to go. control the car if necessary crazy let's put at least a little pressure on this tire I'll turn it up to about an hour 45 psi hopefully it doesn't explode we need to find a new tire the fire has stopped leaking which means there's like a maximum psi I can handle, so whatever it is now, this is all we can get.
I'm going to look online to see if there are any tire stores but tires this size in Flagstaff, just so we can take a rotary bus home. because I have new wheels very soon with tires that will be aerodynamically better than these, but I still need to get home, which is on the other side of the

country

that way, yes, the tire is at the maximum amount of air it can hold, we probably lose a little when we hit some bumps or 52 miles from the Flagstaff supercharger, we didn't lose anything in five miles of air pressure except when we turned here because I had to turn right, so I'm thinking about giving it a try, oh my gosh, this is probably It's Very stupid idea to drive on this tire, but there is literally nothing, we are in the middle of the desert and I will have to call a tow truck anyway, but if I don't, we should at least try to get there.
I just hope it doesn't show up in a place with no cell service that might be a little sketchy and go through the mountains, but I think we're going to have to take a chance and go towards Flagstaff at least we'll go one. more exit up look how the car is we have two things to think about now one is the tire the second is the charge there is a Chatham Oh char jure somewhere around here I think maybe we should recharge the battery just to have something cushioning there in case something happens. Before we got on the highway it was called Flagstaff, discount tire.
I always use discount tires. They are great. They ordered a tire. It will be there in the morning in this size. It's not the same Brent. Whatever we need. to get home is fine, we'll figure it out later. It is beneficial to carry a spare with you, but that will be another topic for another video, so let's get to the Chargers since we have some time to kill at Williams, which is 19 miles. that way if for some reason we have a dead battery the battery isn't one percent dead and you know that's going to cause more mess so we'll go to the nearest charger to level two in a mo chat hopefully we can make that Chatham or it works and if not we'll go up to level two, it's next to the Grand Canyon, looks like a cool little town, we'll make the most of it so off we go, hopefully the tire holds out until Flagstaff. like 50 miles, I really hope it holds, but again, worst case scenario we'll only have one bag.
I guess we only have 28 vs. I. I'm listening to see if the tires are losing air, but it doesn't seem like we're Let's keep our eyes on this tense moment tense moment I can't tell if it's the road or the tire, but the car has a pretty bad vibration here. I have to say we could have just been two wheels, hopefully that hasn't been the case. The point is that any spare tire we put on doesn't fit or should I say have a seal, the wheel doesn't appear to be bent; Visually, I imagine the bead will stick if we can actually get the new tire on the car.
Tire pressure is staying at 28 psi so far, we're like five miles into four miles on something like this, so that's good, we just have a vibration. I'm going 55 miles an hour, people fly by, but I don't want to. take your chances by going faster, in case there is an explosion, of course you don't want to go fast and it doesn't seem to lose air at 55, so we're just going to go 55 at this point, we're not in any situation. Hurry, we have all the way until tomorrow to get to Flagstaff, so let's take it easy and enjoy these beautiful views.
The car says not to get off here, but I think we can and I prefer to go at lower speeds if possible, so let's see if we can recalculate leaving this way. I think it seems doable and Williams is kind of a big town, it seems, with a lot of hotels, so hopefully maybe there's even a tire store here, we'll see. All the snow they've been getting here is great, it's kind of warm, it's 47 degrees Fahrenheit and they still have snow which is pretty cool and those views are amazing. I don't know if the camera can capture it.
The second peak of the bed is twisted. This is the ideal place if you have a breakdown. Wow, I hope we can find a tire here, but if not, I want to stay here in Flagstaff. This is beautiful and I have my little electric scooter that I can also ride on for transportation. but let's get this to charge, but the tires are holding, not all, there's a little bit of air every time I turn right, we're at Chatham Station Oh, I guess we're not actually charging, let's see what the charger sets up right. I checked the connect secure app and they said yes, it connects fine, it works fine, but it doesn't put power.
I have never seen this problem before with the charger. I was talking to the maintenance guy and he said, oh, I used to work for Tesla. I did it. Photovoltaic photovoltaic cell installations. I'm great let's try to reset this charger so now it's literally and you can't really see it there, but I was pulling apart panels trying to turn the fuses to try to reset the Chatham unit or. We'll try it, see what happens anyway, this didn't work, it still has the same profits, an internal problem, so we're back to this, no real reason to leave or anything, we'll just charge until yes tonight.
We've got some time to kill, we can't really drive much, but then we'll go to Flagstaff, supercharge it and yeah, I think maybe I'll do some work and get the electric scooter out to go, oh yeah. You know what this means. I did a little research on Google. The sun is setting, however, there is a museum 4/10 of a mile away, all about the American highway system, which I love. It's cool, it's all about Route 66, so all the past. We will take a road trip here in the future with electrified vehicles, let's get on the scooter and go there.
This is one of the original gas stations on Route 66. Take a look at Mother Road. I love it. He's been sweeping the style cycle in this old west. The townspeople think I'm crazy. I think it affected any Bayesian thing watching you ride this thing, but I'm having a blast, oh yeah, obstacle course, hard parkour through a train, okay, full speed, wide open, yeah, running with no load, back to the car and they're both charging I found this little power port here it's definitely charging it so this is cool it's about 50 percent of the stated charge so it wasn't dead it's just when you turn it on the SAG voltage poles, I don't know.
Your battery gauge stack just reads the voltage on this, so we're good. I'm going to see if they have a restaurant here because it's really nice. Oh yeah, it's been a few hours, we probably have a pretty good charge, let's take a good look, what's going to happen? Let's say we get to where my two brothers are running around it's cold, okay the Flagstaff super charger has a lot of range, the good thing about this shock absorber is that for some reason we end up not getting stranded on the side of the road. I'll still have at least 20% battery power to run the heater, which will keep me warm through the night, but the plan is to get a hotel in Flagstaff so before it's too late with clothes from the trucking company , let's get on the road, nevermind, this is definitely too low for us to drive, so what I'm going to do is try the Tesla roadside assistance app and see if we can get a toad to discount tires in Flagstaff.
Let's put the tire back on the charger overnight because there's no way we're going to do it like that. I selected Tesla roadside assistance through the app electronically. I received a text message instantly saying: Hi, yes your car qualifies for a free tow which is great. I didn't think they towed four. Tirespunctures they had in the past on my last model three, but I thought they had stopped it anyway, says covered. I put discount tires and Flagstaff stuff on Milton Road wherever we go and it seemed so easy. I wonder if they can. Sending someone tonight or tomorrow either way I really don't care since there is a great hotel here that is beautiful.
I just had dinner there. I'm happy to stay here. I guess we'll cordon it off. I'd rather get the car. Anyway, we're not worried, we're back to the charger, we're just getting some power and batteries at 32%, so it'll be totally fine and healthy for it to stay in this state of charge overnight if we tow it to deflate the tire. , that is not like that. problem so yeah everything is fine no problem really this has been a non event the only problem we might have is if the tire doesn't arrive tomorrow morning then we will be stuck in flagstaff another day hmm but we will do our thing.
Better, well that didn't take long, the truck is only here for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half, okay, I was working a little, look at these sick electric bikes we're going to start working on these boys. I don't know, these things are crazy, crazy, cool, anyway, let's load this up. I just met the driver, he's so nice, he loves electric cars, he says, well, this thing, burn it up there like hell, yeah, well, anyway, just some people. they are great,

tesla

roadside assistance literally requested, instantly received a text, they shipped the truck super impressed, this was a great experience as far as the

tesla

side goes.
I mean, I'm really impressed by that, I've never had roadside assistance. go this smooth, I'm going to unplug him, he'll drop the bed, we'll load this, yes sir, so there's Derek loading the car. I just asked. Can I ride the Tesla on the back of the tow truck that is in the road? for 30 something miles and he said yeah I've never done this, this is so exciting so I'm going to watch it. Some YouTube I guess and do some emails in the back of a tow truck in the car. This is great, so in terms of setup, I want to keep the heat on, but I don't want to blind it, so I guess we'll do that.
Come on, I don't know 70 degrees and I have the car in Kent mode. We both confirmed that the headlights will remain off so they don't shine on you. Hopefully it will turn off these flashing lights and I guess this is pretty fun for now. we can just launch YouTube, how cool is this, this is crazy, we are literally breaking it off the back of the damn platform. I didn't think you'd let me stay here, but I have YouTube and everything, and this is it. It's so rocky it feels so unstable every time you turn a corner it feels like we're going to roll over but here we're going to merge onto the highway this is crazy and we've made it safely to the discounted tire where the car will stay overnight. hotels in the region I'll find one maybe within walking distance and then I'll catch up with them all.
I guess the next update will be when we put the tire on tomorrow, so I guess so, but the power to edit is now. tomorrow here we go good, it's the next day, the tire is ready and we should be ready to rock, it's 1 p.m. I got a great hotel. There is a Hilton just down the street. I worked the whole night. It was really very productive. Discount Tires called me around 11:30 today and told me. Hey, the tire is on. Can we mount it in the car? Like, yes, let me start it remotely from the app.
I just walked here. I left my luggage at the hotel. I picked up the car. New tire. Nothing matches, but we'll have new wheels and tires in a week or two. who at the Martian Wheels studio has their aero wheels which should help with range, they are 18 inches we will go out and then the Tesla reference 20 inch wheels also come so no big deal the battery is frozen. They're at 31%, the superchargers are down the street so I've got it preconditioned right now to warm up the battery and man I'm so relieved the wheel is definitely bent so we'll see how much car noise is produced in the path. he said he tried to balance it the best he could so there's probably like 5 pounds of weights and you can see here the battery is working hard to heat up it's definitely not going to charge very fast so basically I'm just gonna plug it in and have lunch and We'll let it charge because if we decide to go home the next supercharger won't be here for a while so we definitely need to get some juice, yeah here in Flagstaff we haven't gotten there yet. to Gallup, so we'll be warmed up by the time we get to Gallup and are out of Flagstaff, but come on, the TPMS should reset once the car starts driving.
Well, I looked at the plug here, they said all these stations are basically not working, but someone recently said they got full power on this. I don't expect to get very high speeds here because the battery is dead, outside right, it was 19 degrees last night, so let's see what we increase. I'm sure we'll get a little charge, but not too much, this is already much better than I expected, it's a pretty good precondition for a super charge and I broke it here to warm up the battery. You can see the blue disappeared anyway, so 50 kilowatts is great for this battery temperature.
We'll be here to get to Gallup, so let's see how many miles it is, um, 181 miles to Gallup, so we'll need a pretty long charge, just one. to cushion, it's cold, big mountain passes and I don't know how the car will respond to that new tire, so let's have lunch here at the hotel. I've been here before at the Cannonball. It's a great place and that will come. Back to the car, once, once, we're loaded, look, let's look at the rest of our trip. We're loaded enough to hit Gallup right now at a low 11%, so we're good there.
Right now we're planning the rest of the trip, so Gallup, then New Mexico, we're going to go through, go up through Oklahoma City this way, and then back down. Now the reason we're doing this instead of this route here through Memphis is because there's a gap. on the superchargers i mentioned before, maybe it showed up in the video, maybe not, there's literally a huge gap from oklahoma city to here, so there are a ton of places you can stay, from what i understand, on i-40 , so maybe what? What we will do is do a long load in Oklahoma City and then stay there, but I really don't know what our trips will be like.
If we have any more problems, we won't even be there until tomorrow, so that probably won't happen. It's not working, but what we really need to do is get on the road and get home because I have a lot of work to do, so let's try as hard as we can today and try to make up some time and with that I think the trip should begin, unplug and going a hundred and eighty one miles should be fine at 85% doesn't look like anything crazy is happening this was just driving around town warming up the battery but yeah we'll be fine come on and we're up to 4% on Gallup we're connecting to one of those - there are only four stalls here, this is, take a look at this, it says welcome Tesla cars, thank you very much.
I've been here before in the cannonball, so head back inside. Come on hey another North Carolina resident look at that no way it's taken them any amount of time since honestly we just emailed to get a job done they charged us enough to get to Albuquerque at 70 % we should definitely get out of here. he probably overloaded a little bit because he thinks we're going to get there at 17% yeah so let's get out here and get to the supercharger in Albuquerque it's at Applebee's there's quite a few Teslas here okay but I see some open spaces so let's hope we get a charge I'm sure we'll just lose the traffic coming this way.
I'm going to take one of those two over there to speed up, so this is great. I think I can run in and have some dinner. Great for us, but everyone. It can be done here in this Tucumcari in a state of charge. I guess that's how they say, it's our next stop, however, there's a supercharger in this direction, a 150 kilowatt well that's just one hundred and eleven miles away that might be our best bet. like it's right next to the highway, it might be a little quicker to load it up here until we record it, but we'll see, maybe I can get some food in the next 15 minutes or so and I'll eat it in the car.
I don't know, we'll see, we ran inside, it's very busy, I mean I guess at 7:00 p.m. on a Friday, everyone understands that Applebee's, we'll just push it, hopefully we'll find food on the next charter, we're not getting great speeds here. I know, a lot of these chargers really need some updates, I don't know if. Tesla is letting them go for Version Three or they are neglecting them for cost reasons or they just don't know, it's hard to say, but there's really nothing we can do here, before we were getting 116 kilowatts, now we're down to 95. We really don't. we're sharing with no one we're only at 16 17 percent so it's definitely a problem with the health of the cabinet or with the cable or who knows anyway we're making good progress our next stop we're going to go to that between here and Tucumcari it's called you have Santa Rosa let's connect we're at 9% there's another car here the car wants to go to Amarillo how far is this only 50 miles and Amarillo is a hundred and fifty miles I don't know I know the fastest probably be just get up, go here and then jump from charger to charger, but we'll leave once we slow down and that means we'll only need a little bit of charger there, but then it might be worth it to just stretch out. a em urilla we'll see, we'll play it by ear, well I feel like we've been here for two minutes, but we have more than enough to get to the next supercharger in the future, which is Tucumcari, most people don't.
I won't do this, but I would like to see more superchargers and we will probably scale back. I don't know five minutes of our time doing this anyway, we'll get to 25%, we're already down, if we're going to do this, let's go now. that way we can take advantage of the faster charging curve on the next supercharger, since we're just cruising through the night jumping from charger to charger, cannonball style. I'm not going to show you the speeds we're going at. I would like to mention that we have an Instagram engine. I always post real-time travel updates.
Fun stuff on the track. We have arrived in Tucumcari. Cool supercharger. Check out this flip through for another Holiday Inn Express hotel. It's everywhere. We will continue to promote it. I'm feeling pretty good, these trips are going to be a little boring over the next few stops, so I think I'll not do any of the driving clips and we'll just go charge, charge, charge, charge, I mean, it'll be a lot of driving in the middle, but the videos get boring if you look at a black road with nothing going on, there's no one on the roads, it's completely empty, so Tucumcari turned on 20% the cars with full power and I'll put the data. on the slides but see you in the next uploader and welcome to the yellow hotels everywhere surprisingly all booked we're going to have to continue I think I'm going to take a little nap radar detector saved us from the sneaky cop and the median and then we saw All these crazy windmills just lit up red, but no problem, it hit eight percent state of charge, so we're definitely rocking and rolling.
I can hear the car charging right now, so everything's fine, it's 1 o'clock. I clock in the morning and watch the traffic. I just look at it. They are being hit by snow and ice a

cross

the center of the country. I'm so glad we didn't end up taking the northern route home that we're taking. the southern route, speaking of this, there are no superchargers from oklahoma city to little rock arkansas, this is a big stretch on i-40 that is missing. This northern route is about an hour and a half slower however what I think I'm going to do is take I forty anyway and there are plenty of stations to Chatham or the other side and I think I'll only need to chat once and it should be faster and it will also be an adventure, so why not do it just to increase the fun? and hello from shamrock, I'm waking up from a nap, we have enough charge to get to Oklahoma City, which is skipping a charger with a huge delay, we're about 75 76% I love this charger, you can't really see it, but It's in an old gas station on Route 66 again, so I guess I'll show it to you on the way out, but I'm going to get some water out of the trunk and then we can hit the road to Oklahoma City and I.
I guess we'll keep driving all night. There is no reasonnot to do it. I mean, you just sleep next to the charger. Follow the road to Oklahoma City quite calmly. I thought we would stop by and check out this Weatherford Oklahoma supercharger. Don't know. I think I've been here before You may have stopped here at the Cannonball I don't know maybe I was sleeping who knows anyway charging here just for 5 to 10 minutes we'll charge until we slow down we'll have to do it a long charge in Oklahoma City of anyway because we are going to bring out that Southern i 4 level without whose super chargers we are going to depend on Chatham, oh and a backup destination charger, it may get a little sketchy, we'll see, but yeah, We can also charge here until it goes down, we're at 20 something percent so it's okay, we're here in Oklahoma City fully charged with the super charger, this really wasn't bad, it all happened pretty fast to give you an idea.
We're getting a little out of our way, I should say we're going the direct route east, the car wants to go up and turn around and we're taking i-40 now there are no superchargers around here, however there is a Chatham. oh, here, here, here, so we're going to go to Chatham station oh somewhere around this Fort Smith air area, maybe a little early to make sure everything's okay, so that's going to be our stop and then of course there are other backups. A little bit later we'll be able to do that, but I charged it fully just in case too and I'm also waking up from a little nap so that was pretty nice, we're connected here on Chatham L. so I guess I click this and we should be good to go to continue, how cool is this, everything looks good, these are the good BTC power units, let's see, let's see how it goes, look at this, this is cool, 47 kilowatts.
I just had an excellent breakfast. It's very windy and cold here, so we definitely have to stop and charge there. From there, it will only be a little further to get to Little Rock. If we left Little Rock at 95% we could get there, but I think it's better to go here now as a backup option, there's an electrifying American Chatham, oh here, but everyone connected said it was a little iffy, sometimes They have problems with Chatham. Oh, although that was generally resolved in recent updates, they will have it. as a backup and there is also a Tesla wall connector in Russellville anyway we have some backup options but I feel pretty good coming here we are still getting 40 kilowatts so maybe we are out at 90% well we are here the next one I plugged in it arrived in Chatham oh and this one is free it didn't charge me anything look at that and we're initializing things are communicating and we're charging look at that I've never seen Chatham chargers Oh so reliable but I'm grateful because we would have been stranded without it , so we're all good, so on the screen this is what Tesla wants to do to get to this charger, but this is really dumb, we'll click on remove charging stops and we'll see how much percentage we need to add 10% just to get there if we reduce it like half a day. so this is definitely a good route, I don't know if it is faster than going this northern route and its surroundings, it is certainly more interesting and more fun for me because I like to have the adventure of carrying and all that and a considerable amount of time has passed.
We are charged up to 82% with 40 kilowatts, this is not a 125 amp charger. In fact, I think it's a hundred amp charger, 15 amps, so we can't get top speeds, it's 183 miles to get there if we were tracking what we have. been doing and we're doing about 200 miles give or take a couple of miles by the time I get out of the car to disconnect it we'll be at 200 miles if we look at the trip planner it doesn't look like it's incredibly hilly just a little On the plane it's a long time ago wind outside, you can see fine, that's how it was when I looked here anyway, it's not too windy now, that's good, so I think we should just disengage, keep the speeds under control and go, and then once we get to the supercharger network and accelerate. charging we can just crank it home, did it on the i-40 stretch without super TR in Little Rock Arkansas, my first time with this charger and look the juice plugged in feels good coming out of the car, it stretches oh yeah.
It feels good to be back on the supercharger network as this ramps up so next stop is Memphis Tennessee now in Memphis I'm going to pick up some boxes from my friends because they're actually moving to Raleigh so it may be Well. I've been to the Memphis supercharger. I've been to all of these superchargers on the way home. Now this is once we get to Memphis. I feel very comfortable when I get home. I knew what's going on here, but I don't think there's a charger in the middle here in Memphis there isn't, so we have to do that stretch and see how many miles it is, it seemed like it was around 150 or so charging stops, it's a little cumbersome how to do these 162 miles, so we'll do it Charge up to 70 or 80 percent, yeah, let's give the battery some power.
I had a pretty good charging session. I'm just helping these new Model S owners, they're literally getting it. They use a third party. They have no idea what to do. yes, we just received this little electric car, how do we charge it? Well, I showed them what to do and got them up to speed and we are putting the car into their account. They have my email. If you have any questions, we are here. Almost okay, probably five minutes and then the supercharger we'll go see Mike and pick up some boxes because he's moving to my town and then we'll take him home.
I don't know if we can get home tonight. still quite far from home, let's see exactly. I think he says we'll get home around five in the morning, so we can spend the night somewhere in the mountains, yeah, like Knoxville or maybe even Asheville, we'll spend the night. it's going to be really perfect and then tomorrow black I don't know welcome to Memphis we've reached 7% it's 350 in the afternoon ah some kind of matching car if I remember correctly this one is slow or it doesn't work but let's find out it's a little busy this one It's the busiest supercharger on this trip, well it's ramping up to about the maximum I can do at this state of charge, so we should get good at that in this post.
I'll coordinate with Mike. I'm going to pick some up. packages from your job at Carmack's and then I'm taking them to Raleigh, so okay, I can't type car, what's going on, look at our space, an thing, Joe, we. I have a value set at 150, that's pretty good, yeah, someone on flex said this one was only producing 49 kilowatts and then they moved on, maybe they were sharing because this thing is super healthy, it's the most this stall can produce, So what do I think we're going to do? What we'll do is we'll charge until we get down to 45 percent, something like this and then we'll go to Jackson Mississippi with no checks and Tennessee and there's some food there.
I've been on that charger so that's fine and then just jump from charger to charger and can't confirm if version three in Nashville works or not wait it works now reduce service hmm well I picked up some boxes and have some more in Mike's trunk. I am very happy that he is moving. o Allah he's buying a five plus in just a couple of days so we'll have another Tesla and the family to play with the p85 plus with so that's really good so yeah everything's good and excited to get home , I don't know. If I can spend the night to get home maybe I'll stay near the mountains maybe I'll push it, we'll see.
I still feel pretty good. I've been taking a few little naps at the Chargers' homecoming. to Jackson, what state are we in Tennessee, not Mississippi? I always get confused, it's not this old western place, there's like a train, there's a whole Railroad Museum we've been there, it's really cool, we're almost home, man, we can't. be more than I don't know 10 hours home something like this 12 hours hmm well I don't know if we're going to drive all night I'm not the guy I was, it's a very long trip across the country I don't know what else to expect, but I mean, I love to have a good time listening to many podcasts.
Excuse me listening to a lot of podcasts, so yeah, let's continue on our way to Dickson Tennessee and there. It's a restaurant called Charlie's, I know Charlie's is just a general burger joint. I've only been once before, but I remembered the last time I went, so I know that all online orders if I get some boneless wings and some soup, and it will be ready the exact time we arrive so it can arrive, plug in, eat food, unplug and then read the effort to keep our time as low as possible because I really feel like we can make it through the night.
It's a very long trip. I'm definitely monitoring my consciousness levels. I can definitely pay attention. I still feel good, but if at any point I feel too tired, I will definitely go out and take a nap or sleep in a carrier because It's not worth taking risks for something just to get home, it's not worth it, welcome to cooking, Phil, my food is waiting for me in that building over there, we just started loading, so I'm going to keep an eye on the screen to make sure. get up properly and then go get some food oh yes this is definitely the way you dine sir, some soup, some hot wings, although can you really consider boneless wings, real wings?
No, hmm, it's okay, it's just easier to eat in the car, but that's it. I can't ask for anything better than this. I had a long dinner. I didn't rush. I didn't want to eat or drive, so now they charge us up to 85%. The car, as I mentioned, wants to stretch it to Knoxville. which is about 200 miles, we can do it if we're somewhere with that 90 percent charge rate, the car says just stay here another 10 minutes and that's it, and I honestly think at this point it's probably faster just by far which is on the road.
We'll have that Cookeville supercharger as a backup in case the temperatures drop, but I'm going to stay here for another 10 minutes and finish these YouTube videos and then hit the road. I mean, why not? Will you join me? at the hotel i definitely didn't push it during the night starting to get a little tired on that trip it's definitely not safe just keep going it's better to just leave the hotels are very cheap anyway and a good place with the charger there's another Model 3 there it is six kilowatts per port, so we'll be fully charged in the morning.
I'll probably do 19% and then increase it to a hundred in the morning so the backpack doesn't sit there all night and I'm also not going to start charging for a couple because we're around 45% and it's good for the battery just to understand where it's driving and charging and charging, so I'm going to let it sit like that for two hours before. I start loading the scheduled load, but for now in the morning for the last hours of the trip. Good morning, it is the last day of the trip. I'm excited to get home. I have so many edits to do that you haven't even started.
We have like six videos of this trip, we were also charging at the level, but this is a problem and it's totally my mistake when I wanted to leave the battery in the state of charge last night at 40 percent of what we got. I had set the timer to start at 11:45 AM. m. instead of at p. m. so I woke up in the car without having charged, which is fine, we can get to the charger because we've gained about 20 percent, 15 percent lost a little because it was cold in Century mode overnight, but we're in 55. percent right now I kicked it out, it's only six kilowatts, but hey, but these are just the funny mistakes you make when you're really tired, so I'm glad I stopped.
I'm glad I got the hotel. I feel renewed. No hair gel today. It's definitely time to get a haircut though, and Starbucks and home are our two priorities for this morning, so let's move on, waiting of course for the Starbucks line, this was right down the street from the hotel, let's see our travel plan for the day, so we're going to continue with yesterday going to Knoxville and then he wants us to do a crazy low load and go to Hickory, but I'll tell you that's not possible because we're going to break it, so we're going to make a Long Load, go to Asheville, why is Asheville packed?
Maybe because it's a long weekend. Oh no, we're fine. There's also talk about your worst case, but we'll charge until we get there. Oh, this big elevation gain going up to Asheville. in the mountains and then we lose a ton of elevation going to Hickory and then we'll probably do a Greensboro and then home and that way we can do a bunch of short charges that will save time. Welcome to Knoxville Tennessee, this is really what I want. I feel like I'm back on my local network. I come here often because the dragon is like an hour this way, not even anyway, the wheel is definitely still bent from the puncture, man, the new gray

performance

wheels look so good anyway, let's go get this.
Itcharged enough to get to Asheville, let's see what 126 miles looks like, so we'll need, I don't know, a 70% state of charge to get there, so let's see, yeah, well, once this increases a little bit, it will show . us more, but at least let's get a good load here and we're getting the maximum speed for this data load. This is great and time hasn't passed too much. They charge us up to 72 percent. I think I probably overcharged, but I was. We're just doing a little work so yeah we'll get there at 15% 126 miles that shouldn't be a problem let's apply but if we're at 72% that car must already be done because they weren't. even around, oh people need to move their cars when they finish, very judicious, this doesn't look good, the whole road is closed.
I was wondering why we didn't see anyone. Oh, brutal, we're in Asheville, one of my favorite places. In the world we have reached 12% totally fine, there was a lot of traffic so we couldn't really get through the beautiful road here, although it is a road, it is beautiful, come on, there are some good food options. here I could run in and go to the mall food court and buy something delicious. I've never seen him so busy it must be a weekend thing. I've always been here and I guess we try to avoid Asheville on the weekends so we come here often. vacation but during the week oh no this doesn't look good we are sharing with the Model S no open cabinets so we may be here for a while.
I always choose the Model S, as I tend to share with more of the Model 3. for no other reason, so I hope they don't squeeze out as much juice, but you know it depends and again only 25 kilowatts, but that's okay, we'll run inside to get some food and we only need a little to get to Hickory & Hickory is right. Here and it's all downhill, so yeah, just a short little trip, about 16% more. The Model S next to us left quite early so we had a great charging session, they charged us up to 50%. I devoured some food and I'm ready to go to Hickory, so I'll log off and then I'll see you in Hickory.
We are in Hickory, North Carolina. This is one of the famous superchargers because everyone here lined up their big trucks to block the supercharger, but not me. I don't know, I like trucks or whatever, yeah, let's load up here real quick until we slow down and then make a quick stop, maybe even a five minute stop, and that should be a tear faster to get to house than load here because We can easily load here and drive straight home, but if we make a quick stop in Greensboro, it's literally right off the highway. I bet we could shave five to ten minutes off our total trip time.
Well, I was going to leave, but my friend Zeb. he showed up so I guess we'll hang out in Hickory for a while okay so I ended up staying here a lot because I was talking to my friend Zeb who also runs the local Tesla owners club. He's just a good friend. They ran into it, they're going skiing here in North Carolina this weekend, so now the car wants to go to Greensboro, what the hell, that doesn't make sense, before it wanted to go straight home and now it doesn't, that's a dumb trick. . The search engines had some bugs, but I guess that's why they say it's in beta.
Anyway, we should be able to get straight home from here. Now there are no more stops. This could have been the last supercharged of the trip. It's only 168 miles. I think we can. do it Hi guys, we are at home sitting in the driveway. I can't find the garage door opener so I can't put the car in. I scheduled the charging to start within an hour. We are at 4%, that way the battery will have a good charge. baseline and then it will complete the charge at 90%, so I can show at the top and bottom the BMS, which I normally don't charge at 90%.
I normally do 80% every day, but we'll let it sit at 90 and it will calibrate itself, something you should always do after a long trip or basically it was 7,000 miles, let's see exactly how long it lasts. It was six thousand five hundred and twenty-four miles less than I was thinking, it's just that the card never completed a charge, it just sped up and slammed on a full charge, you just know it's hard on a car, so yeah, we'll just leave it. to load. at 90 percent overnight, let it sit there and I thank you for coming along for the ride.
I hope the videos are not too long for you. We have a lot of other fun things coming up and I appreciate you guys watching this for a long time. I appreciate everything. support you've shown out of spec let's have a great twenty20 have a great one we'll see eyes on the next road trip
