this

is the

guitar

. Normally this isn't the kind of guitar I would pick up and play, but I'm so glad I did because this is absolutely amazing now that you guys. Last week we looked at the Schecter fastback, a really cool T-style guitar this week. we have something even more unique: the Schecter

ultra

3, so what makes this guitar a big

surprise

for me was the pickup, the layout of the controls and the sheer versatility of this guitar, there are so many tones you can get. It's absolutely amazing, so let's take a quick look at the controls because there are quite a few here now. Very simple, we have a volume and a tone, so that part is really simple. Then we have a five-way selector on this. The chicken head knob is very cool, meaning we can get combinations like just the bridge solo, these two humbuckers, just a mid humbucker, these two humbuckers and the neck, so it's like strategy controls, but with humbuckers, which is really cool, but we're just scratching. the surface now, in case you missed it, we also have these controls here and this is what makes this guitar so powerful and so versatile, so each of these switches corresponds to a pickup, so this This is your neck pickup, this is your middle pickup. and your bridge pickup and these are split coils so right now the guitar is in its humbucker mode and we have like I said a 5 way switch so there are already some interesting combinations when we split each coil we have essentially a strap , so we have three individual splits with the 5-position switch, which means you can get position 2 and position 4 and get a squawk that sounds legitimately good, so this guitar is already so versatile that it has a mode single coil and a humbucker mode, but again we have We're just scratching the surface if we go to position 4 with these two pickups on, we can have them in humbucker mode or in single mode or you know something common if you want your neck humbucker with a single coil in the middle, do it if you want to reverse if you want, you know, a single coil neck with the middle humbucker.

More Interesting Facts About,

schecter ultra iii this guitar was a huge surprise...

Awesome, the same goes for position two, so there are so many different tonal possibilities, so I wanted to get that out of the way from the start because that's really what makes this guitar so amazing. When I started using it, I was impressed with how many tones I could get and you know if you're the type of musician that plays in a band that needs to cover a lot of ground. genres or you like to record in the studio or something, this guitar gives you an incredible amount of tones, so let's quickly go over some of the highlights of this guitar.

I'm not going to be able to cover everything because there's a lot here, but of course I'll link to it in the video description below. You can see all the specs there, then we'll do our tones, but let's go in and check out the guitar now, first things first, this complete guitar. From top to bottom it is designed to be very vintage and of course that applies to the hardware, so up on the headstock we have a set of deluxe Grover tuners that look very vintage and we have those ivory dyed buttons that complement appearance. on the guitar very well we have a Graphtec knot right here we have a friend Ferro fretboard with block inlays and jumbo frets we have a three piece mahogany neck and it's a gluon neck with a really nice contour here So you know, the access to those top frets is really nice, the body is mahogany and of course we've gone over some of the controls, but these are the coil splits here.

Volume, tone, five-way rotary switch, we have three series of Schecter diamonds. humbuckers now, these are listed as their alnico humbuckers with gold foil pickups or whatever. I'm not sure if they're actually voiced differently than the Schecter Diamond series, but I have to say they look absolutely amazing even up close. and expanded like the Great looks really beautiful, then we have a wheel saddle bridge and this is a pro tone so it has a little allen key to keep it from falling off when you change the strings so it's nice to change the strings ropes in Bigsby.
Outfitting guitars is tricky at the best of times, so it's nice to have the tone pros and of course the Bigsby, so it's like the guitar's big brother. Now I should also mention that the entire finish on this guitar is open pore which is very different for You know I'm hoarding the guitar fitted so I'll take some pictures so you know what I'm talking about. I've touched a lot of open pore finishes, but usually on swamp ash where the grain moves up and there are swirls, but generally it's a linear pattern here, as you can see on mahogany, it's like pores that absorb the finish, so which definitely gives it a very vintage vibe and unique look.
Okay, guys, let's move on. the fun stuff and let's look at some tones now there's a lot to get over so let's jump in and take a look so let's start with the neck this is the full humbucker so let's try it in position four so we've got these two. The humbuckers are like a stratum four position, but on steroids, so they really have that squawk that

surprise

d me so much. You know, I really wouldn't expect it now if we split those two humbuckers and gave you more stratum sound. to the humbuckers, back to the neck pickup, so we're already playing with a couple of pickups, we have a lot of options.
Now one of my favorite tones on this guitar from the humbucker side is in position two, so these two humbuckers are on at the same time. Now, obviously, you couldn't do that on a normal guitar, so I'm going to go to the position to tone it down completely and add some overdrive sounds like this. Now, if we just go over like the bridge pickup, we go to position two. so it does something totally different than any of the other pickup combinations so I stumbled upon one of those combos and you know it sounds great whether you know how to dial back the tone or not and then the bridge on its own like that which is a really cool tone so that's the neck pickup in its split mode and if you weren't watching me play this guitar you could have sworn it was a really cool Stratocaster guitar with great single coil tones and I already showed you that one position to be really great.
Sound and of course single coils in the middle compared to the neck, great tone and in the bridge if we add some overdrive like a Stratocaster those tones are great okay so now let's put the Ultra 3 on a mix that I'm going to play. one backing track, just a short one minute solo, but a totally different style to anything he's been playing so far. Let's check it out so you can hear that this guitar really handles any style you can throw at it and that's why it was so amazing, it's like having two guitars in one, a Stratocaster and a Les Paul, tied together with a ton of extra tones in this one. really cool vintage type of package, so amazing that I thought all the tones sounded good, you could become like a jangly jazz master. tone if you go back you can get p90 type tones if you know how to use this humbucker with this single coil you know all kinds of different combinations and I thought they all sounded very good and usable now in terms of fit and finish and the overall construction well I don't have a lot to say because this guitar is like almost every other Schecter I've played, made in South Korea.
Very strict tolerances. I'll just show you some photos of the fretwork because I'm always happy to show off Schecter frets. The beautiful ends of the frets, the polished frets, even up high, you know, you don't know. I call them the forgotten frets because some manufacturers don't dress up the frets there. These are beautiful. The way up and down is an excellent gaming experience. I guess I should quickly mention that I don't have the camera to show it, but it balances absolutely beautifully, there's no head sag, it's pretty light, probably about seven and a half pounds it feels very light, maybe seven. pounds but yeah the balance is really great so you can let your fingers do the work you don't have to hold your neck or hold your body up here or anything so well balanced it plays wonderfully and is built excellent many thanks for watching.
