Hi, I'm Steve Foster, we're here at Laguna Seca Raceway to check out the Monterey Historics and today I'm with Dr. Tony Mork and we're going to talk about his 1966 Porsche 906 Long Tail that was featured in the hit movie Ford Versus. Ferrari, how long have you had this car per year and what do you think of it so far? This is an incredibly attractive car, the handling is fantastic, light, you are low to the ground, so if you take a look at this car, you can see a long tail. This was just one of a pair built in 1966 for the Le Mans race and by adding the extra tail length they achieved almost 20 miles per hour top speed, which of course is really important in the Le Mans race.

If you look inside this car, you'll notice that it's very faithful to the original Porsche 906, which normally for something you wouldn't really see in the movie, it's very cool that they took the time, effort and expense to address the details. from inside, so Dr.

Mork kindly agreed to get into the car. I noticed this 906 has an original factory megaphone exhaust, so he agreed to turn it on so we could hear. how it sounds, so let's see how it performs the starting process and then we'll hear how the engine sounds. The first thing we're going to do is turn on the fuel pump and then press the starter, so let's look at some of the really interesting details of this 906, if you take a look at the rear, you'll notice that it has aerodynamic devices, fins that are totally adjustable as they would have been on the original car.

Another interesting feature is that these are the originals. taillight housings and taillights, the license plate lights are

the first BMW lights that many of the racing teams used in the past to illuminate the racing numbers and license plates of the racing cars, of course, here is the script to show where the bodywork may be. lifted, this is a street legal vehicle, so it's an Arizona license plate and this car has all the street legal features, turn signals, brake lights, horn, all that kind of stuff and it can be driven legally on the Arizona highway in the back of this.

You'll see the original German license plate that would have been on these cars because these are one of the last street cars that Porsche produced, the combo street racing car. Here you'll notice another of Box's license plate lights that has been repurposed. to illuminate the rounds which were a requirement at Le Mans so observers and race officials could see the numbers in the dead of night this illuminates those coming this way is the original factory oil filled gas cap Talbot mirrors These are vintage Talbot mirrors that are really hard to find and really expensive, but these are the mirrors that belong on the car.
Porsche wheels. The 906 used a typical Porsche insert like you would find on a 912 or an early 911 and then they were assembled with a wider aluminum cylinder which made for a lightweight wheel and then they used the rack part, the center piece which is close to the original front indicator lights, stacked headlights just as they would have been on the original car, look here and you will see that the rear clamshell is held on with these latches which are the original latches used on the real 906s. The steering wheel is also a very difficult item to find.
It is an original Monza steering wheel from 66 67 68. Very difficult to find. This unrestored steering wheel fits the car. Fine, you take a look at the seats when you first see them, you think there's some kind of seat made or something, but really that's what the seats look like on the factory 906 race cars, these little half shells with kind of a perforated German vinyl or leather and then you know here you have a helmet on, but the rear window was your headrest, so shift gears and the lights are very close to the original 906, the fan for the tack and the indicator on the right, as it would be I've been on the original thanks for watching this episode of Legends of the Highway and we'd like to thank Dr.
