LB7 DURAMAX - Fuel Pressure Regulator install (DO YOU EVEN REGULATE?)
Mar 13, 2024Today we are going to replace my
fuel
pressure
regulator
on my 2001 lb7 Duramax. This FPR is made by OK Motor. I picked it up when it was on Amazon for about forty-three dollars with free shipping. I'm going to give these guys a chance. I looked up other things they made, they made a lot of sensors, electronic parts, carburetors and such for the ATV world and some other sensors and parts for other vehicles and they seem to get a pretty good rating $43, works. Great, if it doesn't work well, it's a bet I lost and I'll pay the money for the Dorman part, but that's what it looks like, it's definitely the right part, it comes with the O-rings and we'll show you the desired part. and the actual feeling ofpressure
jumping a little, it's not incredibly bad but it definitely jumps enough to worry me a little and there is a bit of a rough idle, the truck has a good ride whether it's hot or cold. it works a little better after it warms up a little bit, but definitely when it's cold, let's go ahead and show you the exhaust. You can hear a hiccup, feel the pressure
regulator
located down here, so to get to that we're going to eliminate the cold air intake and we. We'll take that turbo horn off and then that should give us enough room to get in there let's look at thefuel
pressure regulator if there's a clip sticking out and like the other one there's three bolts I think they're 225 and Again we'll use our ratchet to enter and remove them as carefully as possible. Well, we finally got the old one out. It's not a fun project. They are very, very small spaces. This will be your best friend for removing those screws. it comes loose quite easily and then your ratchet is kind of useless without enough resistance to remove it, so you may have to consult your manual and use your hands, you don't want to lift one of these nice long ratchets out there. a two inch extension with your t25 and that will get you in there. Also what he wants to do here is bend it very carefully, get it out of the way so he can put the ratchet in there, but that's it. running fine, just talked it over with Tim, giving it a spin to see how everything works and feel the fuel pressure, desired pressure vs actual pressure is pretty rock solid, sounds good, accelerates well, something shows it doesn't verify its readings, you have an objector, he seems extremely happy, right? now, we'll go ahead and check out the exhaust here, pretty stable, so smooth, we'll call it a win.
