Getting ORGANISED for school | PLANNING ahead for student/trainee teachers | TIME MANAGEMENT tips

Mar 28, 2024
Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. If you are new here, hello. My name is Miss Paris and today I am a newly qualified primary

school

teacher here in the UK. I want to keep this video short and sweet because I had to close the window to make it quieter and warmer in here, so let's start with some

tips

to make sure you can organize and plan

ahead

during your internship year. Now I will be the first to admit that

planning

individual lessons in advance is quite difficult, let's say you would spend a weekend preparing for Monday's lesson, Tuesday and Wednesday after Monday's lesson.

I would end up

planning

for Tuesday again. I found that planning too far in advance simply wasn't effective or

time

-saving; however, with tasks you can definitely plan

ahead

. By the

time

you discover your title, you can already brainstorm ideas you could talk about. You can now start reading some magazine articles. Believe me, it's much easier to read even one a week and then work on your homework for a month and then give it a try. and read everything in a week and write everything in a week you're looking for about 3,500 4,000 words per essay you can't do that in a week especially when you're still expected to plan the lesson attend staff meetings grade like that just try and advance those tasks by the time you receive your degree, just start thinking about what you could do, what you could research.

More Interesting Facts About,

I made a whole video on how to find magazine articles effectively. I'll leave it below, but tasks are definitely something I wouldn't recommend leaving to the last minute and just spreading out the workload over the time you have to do it honestly makes a huge difference. The next thing I want to talk to you about are resources in primary and secondary

school

. You'll have a lot of these through worksheets or maybe data files or homework sheets, whatever, but you don't want to use, say, your ppa time or your free time outside of the classroom to plan them.

It's much better if you already planned it. You already have these ready at home because then you can spend all the time printing them or cutting them or whatever you need to do with them if you spend all that time preparing them knowing that it is, let's say, for the next day. and then you come home and say, oh yeah, I've done all my lesson planning, I'm fine and then you come home in the morning and suddenly you need to print 30 sheets for one lesson and 30 for the next lesson and then you needed some master copies or some answer, suddenly you will feel overwhelmed with printing and in the morning you will not be the only one who will want to use that printer, so that is something to keep in mind, try to prepare it in advance. so that when you have free time at school you can make use of those resources, take advantage of that time to get everything ready and what I would like to do at the end, when I was really preparing, I used to lay out each Something before the lesson, so when I went into the lesson I had the GD worksheets or the art worksheets or if they were mixability groups I would have all the activities laid out and ready to go so that's a really good time

management

tip and it also saves . you schedule the next day and in the morning you don't want to feel rushed and stressed because that makes your day start off the wrong way so I would definitely do this tip so plan the lesson.

I just mentioned that it's really difficult. To plan lessons ahead of time, so what advice can I give you to get organized with lesson plans? Well, what I would say is that if you're going to teach, let's say a whole topic, when I was teaching mathematics, I did a whole topic in time. What I did was I planned out every single thing I wanted to cover, obviously this is mainly inspired by the national curriculum, so I said, "Okay, I've got six lessons to do this and in that time I want to cover the clock reading minutes." of 24 hours that I want. covering writing, digital time, that kind of thing, so when you have this idea, it means that depending on what your first lesson might be, you can pick and choose ideas of what might come next, rather than sitting there in front of to an empty lesson. plan to think well, what can I do now?
I've done this some got it some didn't get it um I have no idea, you can look at the things that you wanted to cover at the end of your lesson series and say, okay So those that got this, I think it would make sense to move on to the next thing and those who weren't sure about this, I'll expand on it and then as an extension task, if you understand it, I'll move you to this because that way. In the long run, you'll save time if every night you sit there for an hour thinking, what should I do tomorrow? um, and then you still need to generate the resources which will take a lot of time, so do it in advance by the time you figure out what you're going to teach or ask your mentor ahead of time what they're going to teach, then you can start again using the plan of national studies that will help you a lot and will also lead you very well to My next point about teaching standards, if you research these things in advance, then you can evidence that, as part of your teacher's standard three, which is about knowledge of the subject, in every evidence pack I did I would have a whole type of A4 dedicated to parts of the research I did and the key points I made, so for the national curriculum it would stand out well, these are the parts I'm looking at, then I would look at my county's guidelines on this topic, what they recommend and that already forms a whole vignette of evidence and you were going to do that anyway, so it's very good free advice for either of us, so I mentioned that would talk about teaching standards.
This is information that is available to everyone. Too easy. You can simply Google it and it has a good overview in A4 size provided by the government. I'll leave a link below if that helps, but you can check them out now in time for September and familiarize yourself with what each teaching standard focuses on, for example, in teaching. Standard seven focuses on teaching behavior

management

. Standard six focuses on assessment and then as you teach naturally just keep some things in a file or according to the teaching standard if you are organized and that way when your evidence portfolio deadline comes then you will be able to just put all these pieces together and analyze them.
Okay, I have two pieces of advice left for you. If you've made it this far, then well done. I know you're dedicated to

getting

organized, staying on track, and maintaining that good work-life balance. I'm going to give you my best advice at the end, so make sure you follow it because in my opinion it's the hardest to nail down and the one that really needs to be talked about more in the teaching community, but For now, this advice is about your location , so if you do college routes you might have different locations at a lot of different schools, but if you're doing a school based play you'll usually only have two, one main and then another to go for about four to six weeks, so what I would do to make sure you are prepared for your new location is the time you get the name of the school and your mentor.
I would contact your mentor and look at the school's website. I have two videos on what to ask your mentor and what to do when you find out your location, so I'll put the descriptions below so you can watch them too. I go into much more detail about it. Well, my last tip is about scheduling personal time. We can often forget about this as

teachers

or

student

teachers

and think okay, well, I have this to do, this, do this, I think this would really benefit the good. being this child and I think I should do this as an intervention and suddenly you can become completely taken over by these thoughts of how to help and support the children or adolescents that you teach, but it is important that you take a little time and don't do.
I don't think I've done this enough and sometimes you feel overwhelmed, especially when maybe you didn't have a great day at school and then you just have to come home and you're still doing everything for them, so whether it's programming in a date night or scheduling a time to go out with some friends or just having a free night where you don't do anything education related, do it, but you want to make sure you don't fall behind on anything, so you should do it. make sure you schedule it like in a diary on a calendar, whatever you use, so say I want to have Wednesday night off because it's nice in the middle of the week and I just want a break, so Tuesday you're going to need to Make sure you have everything ready for Wednesday and have a head start on things for Thursday or if you know you'll have Wednesday off during the school day, make sure you check off as you go.
Or you do a whole class grading session, make sure you don't have to go home with anything, and if you know you're teaching on Thursday, try to get ahead of yourself on Tuesday night or try to do that. that during breaks, if you really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it because we need them, okay, so that's all my

tips

on how to get organized and plan ahead, but also keep it realistic because I know you're not going to. You'll be able to make material weeks in advance, so I really hope this helped you. If so, be sure to give it a thumbs up because then YouTube will recommend it to other
