10 Shaker Card Hacks You Should Try!

Apr 09, 2020
We are all Justine and welcome to a new video today. I'll be continuing my collaboration from April, this time with Crafty Not Shifty aka Laura and Her. We're going over some of our favorite Shaker

card

tricks, since we both love Shaker

card

s, so I'm getting started. Out with the

shaker

bags, now this is the first new card I'm creating in this video and I'll be using the

shaker

bags of my favorite things. They come separately in packages where you can buy these plastic sheets already made and they have matching accessories. Also die cuts that fit perfectly around them, there are all kinds of shapes from clouds, stars, martini glasses, gift card holders, as well as rectangles, circles, all kinds of things and they also come in a variety of depths as well Which if you ever wanted to, let's say a bag of candy. or something that would work too, they even have one for lip gloss so I'll link to all of them below in the video description or a link to the general page where you can find them all if you're interested and then go ahead and cut the largest rectangle in the set, this is the set that is supposed to go with the shaker bag and I am saving the middle so I can die cut the sentiment and this frame now fits perfectly around the plastic.

I'm going to grab some of this scrapbook communication sticker. This is a 2 inch sticker and I'm going to put it here on the back and I'm just going to trim it a little bit and the reason I'm doing that is the feeling that I'm going to have. Die cutting my favorite things is really, really cool and I don't want to have to worry about gluing them on because that would be a pain, so I'm going to be die cutting this birthday. feeling of my favorite things which is also pretty new and I cut it out with my Gemini junior die cutting machine and now I can just peel it off the paper and it's got the adhesive on it so I'm going to put this right on the front of my shaker bag because why no?

And you know you can add things on the inside of your shaker bag on the outside of the shaker bag, I just want to make sure you want the sequins to cover it or the beads to cover the sentiment or you don't want that and that will determine if you do. you put inside or outside of the shaker bag. Now let me tell you that this adhesive that I'm using from Scrapbook Comm is sticky, it's really sticky and you know it's really cool. I know it will hold up there without any problem and it comes in a variety of sizes from four inches to I think an eighth of an inch and I think I have them all now and have been.

I'm wearing them a lot lately and I love them, they're often on sale too so I'll link all the sizes below in the video description. Now I am slowly removing the desires and will follow them. place it on the front of the shaker bag window and don't forget the little eyes for the top of the eyes on birthdays and wishes because that really adds that fine detail, so now I'm going to place it to the side. I'm going to create a nice colorful background here using some Catherine Pooler dies. I'm using my blending brushes. Here you see the great impression I get with the inks, how soft they are and how I don't get any harsh lines.

I've been obsessed with these. I have a full video on them, if you are interested I will link it below in the video description. Also is okay. I need to stop saying that because it's getting annoying and anyway, any information you have is below. and any information you need is below, so if you're ever looking for something, it's down there, so I'm going to go ahead and create a nice combination between a bunch of different colors here. I think these colors here are perfect to continue with. along with a silver one I have for the frame and birthday wishes too, I think the silver ones will look great with that orange and pink color, so I have the base of my four and a quarter by five and a half card ready, folded half.
Of course, and then I'm going to put this panel on top here, now it's a little bit smaller, but it doesn't matter because my frame is going to cover it anyway. Now I'm going to go ahead and use this beautiful butterfly sequin mix from Ellen Hutson, it has a lot of regular sequin flowers and butterflies and it just so happened that I pulled this out of my sequin thing because my sequin organizer because everyone the colors seemed to coordinate perfectly with my background. I didn't even plan it, how wonderful is that and it's perfect, it's got those summer colored summer sequins and they're all ready to go, so I'm going to add a little bit of liquid to the back of this.
I think this is the best to use. The liquid adhesive gives you the opportunity to place it in place if necessary and I will stick it directly to the card base and then add the frame on top. Now I'm going to go ahead with My thumb and really push that down. I don't want any chance of the glue lifting up and some sequins getting in there or something. In fact, once I add the frame, it will take a bit to move it. Also, I'm going to turn the sound on for a brief moment so you can hear the movement of the shaker, as well as the background of the TV show I'm playing right now while I catch up on Game of Thrones. while I'm filming, so that's the end of the first card.
Now for the rest of you, I'll show you other techniques like this with foam sheets, but I'm actually taking images from older videos, so I'll link to them below in the video description. and for each of these, I'm just going to show a part of the shaker card that's important so you can see here. I have die cut this trick or treat frame. I added some acetate behind it and now I have a piece of foam and it's obviously a very complex die and I wasn't quite sure what to do with it so what can you do instead of putting together all kinds of foam tape or using a shaker bag is you can die.
Cut this using foam and you can see here that I have the super thick piece of foam ready to go and I actually cut it out because this specific die didn't actually cut the inside out, but of course you'll want to. save this more for die cuts or it's going to do that so this is perfect for example if you're making a shaker card where you're cutting out a word you can use the negative side of the foam to have the frame around the word . You don't have to do all those intricate foam tape placements and things like that, but they're kind of traditional ways to make a card, but this is a great way to have a foam card or a frame around your card instead of the agitating parts. that's really affordable and very versatile and you'll never have a chance of your beads or your sequins or anything like that falling off.
The next one I have is how to get multiple colors for example on a card so let's see move on to this beautiful card that I created from Ellen's hand dies hi Ellen Hudson and we're going to use these dies here for our frames , so the first thing I did was cut out my front panel to have all my dies already here. I lined everything up nicely and I had six hands and what I wanted was all kinds of different colors to represent all kinds of different people working together. Then I went ahead and traced those hands onto my card, another card panel that was I'm going to add the backgrounds and I also have full video tutorials for all of these.
I'm just going over the basics and then I went ahead and put a little bit of color on top of each of the frames just to give it a little bit more of a colorful background and something that's very vibrant. Then I went ahead and actually started putting a piece or two pieces of foam tape around each of the frames, being very careful to make sure I didn't go on top of any of my pencil lines where I would end up seeing the tape so you can Go ahead and make your own kind of custom frames like this, like I did, but it obviously takes a little work and some patience to achieve.
It's already done and I use 3m foam tape for this. I find it easy to tear, easy to work with and easy to remove the backings, and you really want to make sure that you choose a tape that really works well for you and that you don't struggle with everything, another thing you want to make sure is that you really cover all the pieces of the area so that none of your cards sink. The next thing I'm going to do is go ahead and add. all those different seeds and everything on my cards. I'm using a range of jewelry from Pretty Pink Posh which is perfect because it makes a lot of noise when shaken which makes it even more fun.
So I went ahead and removed them all. the backs of all of this and I just put the front back on with all the acetate already there so remember there's a layer of acetate between the beads and the hands that are die cut and here's a look at that final card I think. This is a great card, the next one is an unusual window, so just so you know that you don't have to use things like a traditional circle or a suggested traditional square or a traditional acid rectangle, I realized I probably

should

have put this in before of the hand. video because you just saw this technique in the hand video too, but I wanted to show off this card because it's my number one favorite card of all time, so I went ahead and cut out three of these butterflies and I'm a beautiful butterfly die cut from Concord and ninth and I'm making a number 10 card that's kind of landscape style and long.
I glued three pieces of patterned paper behind my die cuts to make it a little simpler and I went ahead and did the same thing I did on my previous card and traced the butterflies on the card so I knew where they were going to be and then I went ahead and made my frames just like I did in the previous card. with three different types of seeds, now don't forget that you can make colors, you can make seeds, you can make sequins, you can make glitter inside these, you can make candy or paper confetti, whatever you want in that shaker, it doesn't really matter what The only thing you have to remember is to put acetate behind those butterflies because for some reason I always forget to put the acetate and then I have windows that don't have glass and the beads are just going to fall off and it's crazy, so I put them anyway those below and then acetate there it is.
I already put it off the screen and it shakes really well, but what I thought would be cool was adding that die cut on top and that's what I wanted to show you, which was a little different than the previous video, so I went ahead and I added those butterflies and just glued the body of them so the wings would emerge. This is seriously the best card ever. I adore her. Someone very special got this card now for my last technique. I wanted to talk about how you can make your shaker cards a little better and that's embossing on the windows, so I'm using heat resistant acetate as well as a Merry Christmas for Mom Elephant stamp and now I put the acetate inside my Misti. you can see how old this video is.
I'm using a completely different craft mat and probably in different countries I'm creating this and I add my stamp here right on top of the acetate and I use my magnet to help keep things down and for this card here it's very important again the waterproof acetate. heat, not all acetates can handle heat stamping and you can do this on top of vellum on top of acetate, whatever you want and then I just stamped it off, obviously it was going to come I took the clear there and then acetate and then I just stamped it using a little bit of Versamark ink on the panel.
I kept that tissue behind the window because I wanted to be able to see what I was doing a little better and then color it in with embossing tape, what's super imperative here is that you're using an embossing bag. I didn't have any at the time so it was a bit messy so when you cover it it

should

n't be static because you have I used that embossed pay bag and the static is now gone for me, the state where the static doesn't It went away and I had to use a dry brush to remove it, just try to use minimal heat on the acetate, heat your heat gun as long as possible before placing it directly on the acetate so it melts quickly.
Embossing powder will melt faster on acetate than paper because it gets hotter, so you don't need to keep it there for long, so that's the end of this video.
