Storyteller. I don't. I'm just going to communicate the information in a really dry way. If you could give someone advice on how to tell a

great

story and how to communicate it in a more inventive way, what would you tell them? I think I think I'll listen to comments or watch. The comments that you know about us from Astoria is, yeah, storytelling is interesting, uh, because I still do it, I do it, you know, I'm constantly filming things and we're actually telling stories, uh, uh, through cameras and I think that why it has worked.

We don't take ourselves too seriously and there is a lot of humor, which is interesting, no one knew when the diagnosis came out, no one knew they were going to be funny, I'm talking about the network, the production company, no one. They realized it was going to be funny, they were thinking. because if you look at the outside of me and my family, you think, "Oh, these guys are serious and you know it, really, in your face, and then I remember we found the pilots they were." like

is really funny like we don't know and then we find Uncle Psy he's funny and then yeah so it's like and I think that helps is when we can laugh and the Robertsons have always used humor.

You know, I just have to deal with life, you know, and so when I'm around people who are so serious, it makes me feel uncomfortable because I think I just have to laugh and I just want to be like, hey man, you. I know it can always be worse and then, we have done it. I'm glad it's a gift and my mom probably had it so she always laughed and we definitely took that too, yeah, humor and storytelling. That has to be part of good

communication

for sure and you mentioned that your father had a vision and then you carried that torch while running the company, how was that Vision communicated and did it change when he took over?

Or did you say I'm 100% on board? Was there any kind of struggle because I know there is a lot of emotion around family businesses, succession and legacy? Well actually my dad and I are my mom and dad and we're actually partners in our business so when I came to them, you know, gosh, I guess 20 years ago I thought I could do

and um uh and and They agreed and I said, I'll put some money into the company and I said, but I need to be able to make decisions and they said, go ahead, so it's actually a beautiful transition.

The communication was very funny, especially my father, because there were some ideas he had and he thought he had lost his mind. Well, one was when. I told him that we wouldn't have VHS tapes anymore, that we would use DVDs for our videos and he asked me what a DVD is and I told him: Dad, they are much better, these are just like you. I don't have to rewind them and he said, "Well, I still have one." I said, "You've got to be the only guy in Louisiana." What year was this?" This wasn't like 30 years ago.

Dad from the '90s or early 2000s was saying you'd lost your mind, you know, going to this, so that was one of the ideas. I remember having another crazy idea I wanted to have a website I said I think people will go and order products from a computer and he says no he said tell people if they want to order one of our duck calls they pick up the phone and they call you know he wanted that and I said dad I think the times are moving and so these are some of the crazy ideas that I had that I had to communicate and say I think this is going to be like this and then um and some of them I just did, I just said I'm doing it and then and and what I think when you have successes and then when you have successes, um uh, that will bring more confidence and you will have better communication because, well, hey, that worked, hey, this worked, this worked, and so, when you accumulate enough of those that I remember when I got our first sponsor, uh, people actually pay us to wear their clothes and and and dad's blue mind, I couldn't believe that someone actually knew that this is like I guess the origin of the influencers you know like us I'm going to influence people to wear clothes and stuff, but when I got the check and I said, Hey dad, look, this is what we did and he says, " You're brilliant like that" and then he just started, you know, reading more and more. success and so I was more open to communication, so you know, so it's very important, you know, you have to listen, you know, I have to listen, but then I have to say, hey, this is, I think this. will work, you know, and I think these ideas will work and then you start piling up hit after hit and then even Doug, even television, I mean, he said no one was going to watch this and want to see us on TV, and even me. kind of thinking I don't know if we were, you know?

I thought we were pretty normal and then my wife was like, Willie, you're not normal, like you're not a normal fan, that's what you think she was like, like you. she is not normal and then she was listening, she is communicating and then also listening
