Racing Mower Extreme Overdrive Jackshaft Drivetrain

Mar 31, 2024
Alright guys, how are you doing? Welcome back to part 8 of the Rat Rod Racing Lawn Mower, so in this video we're going to hook up the transmission to the Cat Shaft and hopefully we'll get a running Lawn Mower, so this is the Cat Shaft . It actually came off the four-wheeler when I put the torque converter on, so we're going to get it out of retirement and somehow shim it and put it on the lawn

mower

. I hope this is the only one and forever that fixes this nonsense. direction, so in the last video I installed a hose clamp here to keep this shit from wobbling up and down and yeah, it fixes it, but when you turn it, that little thing here moves slightly and I was just going to get the welder . there and just solder all this shit but this is plastic so instead of welding it I JB welded it so crudely from that mark to another mark I made right here it's about 12 inches so that's where I'm probably going shorten.

I don't know what's going on with this nonsense, look, look at that, so I cut it all out and cropped it so it doesn't cut you, so it looks like I need to cut my angle right here like this, so I'm I'm going to cut here and cut here and a little bit more here so we can interlock this here now the pillow block is finally bolted on and that's not going anywhere so next thing is weld this angle iron overseas welded there I welded it there along here and I wanted another one there, so these two main wells are the only thing really holding it up.

More Interesting Facts About,

I'm not going to solder underneath because it will be a pain to do. that and I think it's perfectly fine and yes I have Phillip in there it needs grease on the bearing but that will work fine so I just cut a little bit more off the angle iron and put it in there with a very structurally mounted bracket. thing and I've got my thumb right here with the angle grinder uh friendly reminder wear gloves and wear safety glasses because you don't want nonsense like this to happen to you but yeah I've got it there and it's ready to spot weld and we're like soldered, I did a full weld on the bottom that I probably shouldn't have done and I tack welded the sides up here and that looks good.

I didn't really have time to film it because I have to be somewhere. in a bit so I'll see you all later okay I just got back from snow skiing that was definitely fun now let's get back to working on this lawn

mower

thanks so I just soldered everything back together place, completely welded, that's not I'm going anywhere, I shouldn't, so let's place our Chef now. I'm going to work on that a little bit because it's a little look, we're going to glue our pillow block here and yeah, this should look really nice. So I just got out of Norton Tool and got some more welding wire gear puller.

I've been needing one of those and some bits and Bobs so I'm going to stop by Tractor Supply which is literally right there and get the rest of the parts for the jack shaft so we're at Tractor Supply I have my little list here , so let's go to the pulley section because there's tons of stuff in here, find the right pulley, so I'll probably get an eight. 12 inch pulley that's in the middle, the top one is from the 70's, but imagine if we put in a 12 inch pulley, it would be epic if you're doing some kind of custom project, uh, yeah, this is the kind of thing that They have to do. paying 40 bucks to solder wire, not really my cup of tea, plus I'm going to have to grind the slot on this shaft right here so I can put this collar on right, so I cut it off, uh, it's not perfect, but it will do it. do and this is the most complicated thing I've ever done so I put the pulley on the little Chuck and I'm going to weld it up so after a long time of fiddling with the jack shaft it's finally there and it looks really good and I got all from Tractor Supply besides the belts because I have no idea what size the belts are so a little size comparison.
This is the old rusty pulley that came off the transaxle and I measured it and this is it. a nine inch pulley again, this is an eight inch pulley, so it's basically going to be the opposite relationship. Basically I'm taking a huge pulley to put on the motor and a small pulley on the back, man this rear end is going to explode, imagine if we had the 12 inch pulley to put on there it was absolutely ridiculous so I just left from school and my brother told one of his friends to put tires on the back of the truck right there.
He had no idea what was happening, those are the tires for his car, but I run to Lowe's again to grab some dry axle collars and some grub screws for the Jack axle. We're here at Lowe's, so back at Lowe's, I'm going to buy parts and Bobs here, I also bought some rope, the cheapest rope I could find at Lowe's The belt at Lowe's that was supposed to go from the motor to the shaft of the cat was a half inch 67 inch and just like my luck they didn't have any so I wasn't going to get a 68 but then I looked at a small belt. thing and it said a 5 8 in 68 inch belt was about the same size as the half 67.
So that's what I got and actually it will probably be better because of the torque converter, it's built a little thicker so which yeah, I hope it's It's going to work so with the belt 5 8 uh, trying to get it through this part here, it's a little difficult, I had to loosen it, but it slipped there, I think it's going to rub a little bit and yeah , yeah, it fits pretty well there. Alright, I just did something and it's absolutely crazy, so the motor belt which is one to one, here it's one to two and a half, the motor is spinning at 3600 RPM, this input pulley here is spinning at 9000 RPM. so I want the track supply for the third time today to have a shorter belt less than a 37, this is a 36 and it has a lot more attention so not only do I have this huge mess that I have to clean up. raining so I put my fuel tank back in there to charge it and I have a very very cute starting system but you know this cable is too short.
I'm going to get a different battery and I'm going to relocate your battery somewhere else maybe put it right there I don't know if this is better, it's too big so the only thing we're going to do now is just start the engine, rev it in neutral to see if everything clears up. Works. Blah blah blah, I also redid the throttle so it has more travel and feels much better. Take two, take three, oh, let me press this, it'll probably be easier to turn. It's still raining outside and it's still freezing in here, which it is. why I turned on the heat and I'm going to go out and freeze my butt, but I don't care because this is the new transmission, it's getting so sweet, this guy always stays with me in the garage, like every time I do something.
I'd seen it before, it always ran next to me, so I did the math and spun it at 4000 RPM because that's a ratio of one to two and a half to the rear, it goes 53 miles an hour in six Gear cars and the camera is okay 42 miles per hour let's do it better and we're going to go 53 miles per hour we're good let's beat it good now oh it's actually a very very smooth foreigner so I'm back now this is By far the sketchiest thing I've ever driven before was when the Virgin, when it was still up, I told my brother to go drive it and he said it was the sketchiest thing he'd ever driven and I just started dying laughing, but yeah , this is sketchiness 2.0 right here, this part, this does the super link right, my hands, you know, got cut off and they're shit, I'm trying to reach there because I put a bolt in there and you. you know, custom screams trying to, you know, change gear, but yeah, first gear is pretty low, I like sixth gear, let's talk about that, I drove it there, that it wasn't open, that it had a lot more, no I had the speed.
Passing the belt from Jack to the back is fine. The belt that goes from the Jack shaft to the motor we are going to get a slightly longer belt. Also let me know in the comments what you think I should use this for. No, i do not do it. I have no idea when the next video will be on this thing, it needs breaks, it needs shifter bearings in the front and just a couple of chances on other things, but I have no idea when that video will be. Don't just put a video up my ass and say, "Oh, I have a video of the lawn mower at the track store, let's post it on YouTube, you know, I can't do that, I can't get it out of my ass and just look on the Internet." , I actually have to take the time to film it and edit it, plus I don't have all the tools you can imagine in this garage all day and all night.
You know, I have to spend 90 minutes of my day at school. house, I won't and I refuse to rush into building this lawnmower. This lawnmower is fun and if I'm not having fun I'm not going to build it the same way I make videos again. I'm not cars or cameras huh. , basically I came up with the idea to put Jack axis here from cars and cameras, so I hope you like this video. If you knew what to do, I won't make you all do things you don't want to do and should do us. see you next time
