Lady cats 2022-2023

Mar 18, 2024
with me, well, the real Jeff Davis, please stand up, oh man, when it comes to this year's Eastern Randolph High School girls basketball team. I like to talk about things that people forget or don't think about, and that's the fact that we. We didn't have the whole summer to learn offense, defense, to gain the cohesion we needed to play together. We had the first game, we had the first opening day of practice and testing, um, to learn from each other, to learn a new system, to learn how to communicate within a group. new team and then you know how to break down the girls individually when you have a player like Brecken who scored a career-high 51 points this year and who led her team on and off the court by setting an example of how to behave.

Kindly, the point guard who is the glue of the entire team, who leads her team on the court, leaves nothing behind, she played injured most of the season. You have Logan, whose basketball is not his number one sport, but you wouldn't have known it. Coming to a game and watching her play, you have Z, who was a phenomenal athlete who honed her basketball skills this year and left nothing on the court and was a vital part of our system. You got Kenzie G when she's open and she hits that shot and she feels it, you can't stop her uh you got Peyton who had to come in and learn a whole new system, she learned girls she never played with before she knew she's gonna finish the season being one of our most dominant players, the whole team grew as a whole and it is nothing that you know that one person or one coach did, it was a team of coaches, it was a team of players who loved it and there was a part. in the season where the girls were going to win a game and they said coach, we don't want to win, we want to dominate, we don't just want to win this game, we want to dominate and that was a one-on-one game. of our rivals in our first game and we won that game by about 49 points and there's a lot of reasoning and things that you have to understand, unless you're part of that team, why they wanted to dominate and don't let me forget. the freshmen, you know, we're going to work with them all summer this year, we have that opportunity, but one thing that comes to mind is, Caitlyn Brown, there wasn't a single time that she didn't go to court. and he gave me 110 of his ability and I think that's what gave him the team aspect, the cohesion, is that once you got on that court you gave everything, you didn't leave anything and we took it to the third round of the playoffs state as an athletic trainer. a front row seat to a lot of things, not just the game, I get to see behind the scenes, I get to see, you know, the dance parties and the laughter, and I get to see the tears that are cried over injuries or just getting through a bad moment. day, but this group of girls was a special group, you had three seniors who put their hearts on the line every time they walked out on the court watching McKinsey and you know her quiet power and Peyton and that goofy smile of hers and Brecken the intensity that she brings to a ball game, there are no other kids like them and these three seniors definitely left it better than they found it if they knew how much they were prayed for, knew how much support they really had in those metal stands.

?
Thank you to Coach Davis, Coach Travis and Coach Salas for making this season the best ever. We had fun and won a lot of games. It's definitely a season I'll never forget and I can't thank them enough for doing what they did. do the best training I just want to thank all of our coaches and everyone who had a partner during a successful season this year. It was always a lot of fun to come to practice and see our coaches as excited as we were to be there and show up and work as hard for us as we do for them.
I would like to thank my coaches for pushing me to be a better player and a better person on and off the court. Thank you to my coaches for everything they have done for me. I am very grateful to have been able to play with such a strong community. I just want to thank Coach Davis Travis and Silas for this unforgettable season. They have all taught me to become a better player on and off the court, even when I was down. You all pushed me and gave me advice to become a better player. Thank you for all the memories I will never forget.
He trains me by stepping up and pushing me even when he didn't want to. You made me the best athlete in person. possible, this year was so special and you all helped create an incredible atmosphere. I am very grateful to have more years with you, it really was a Dream Team. I love you all. I wanted to thank Davis' coach, Coach Silas. and Coach Whitaker for making it a great season. Thank you to Coach Davis for all the hard work he has put in to guide us through many games. Many practices pushed me to be the best I can be.
Thanks to Silas for giving me encouragement. I needed to answer all my questions and show me my skills and thank you to Coach Whitaker for encouraging me to make the team and making it a great season with his coaching and all the good advice he gave me, it really meant a lot. thank you all of you and I can't wait for next year to coach Davis Salas and Travis thank you for pushing me to be the best that I can be not only a basketball player but a better person thank you all for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself, this has truly been the best year I've ever had, so training for myself this year has been amazing, you know, being able to train alongside my brother, you know, has been a dream for me.
For a while you know it was nice and then on the other hand I'm also training with my boss yeah so it was great you know this was my first year coaching and honestly it was great you know we had a great group of children. they got 8 and 16 last year, sorry, this year they went 19-8, it was just amazing, you know, I'm proud of each and every one of them and I wasn't ready for anything this year. I really wish our seniors. I wasn't going to leave Peyton and Mackenzie G, you know those kids or a lot of our team this year and it's going to suck next year, but we have a good team of underclassmen that will be able to pick up what they lost on next year and you know we'll be fine to say this season had been a rollercoaster of events would be a total understatement when Jeff and I had the first conversation about him taking on this role he was really just going to be the assistant coach helped with the program and every time he got pushed into the head coaching position, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried because, you know, he took on such an important role soquickly, but, as always, he proved me wrong and I couldn't be more proud of the fact that he did it.
I think that really shows that whenever you have a group of people like Jeff, Travis Silas, Jennifer Janna, that are willing to give these student-athletes 110 percent of what they need. The team will give back to them tenfold and they absolutely did. Those girls showed up, showed up and did their thing this year and went, like I said, the furthest they've been since 2006, making it to the third round in the state playoffs. which is a great achievement and something to be celebrated. I think those girls have really made believers out of me. I went from being a Southwestern Cougars alumnus to a die-hard Wildcats fan this year and you.I know I'm not going back so I can't wait to see what they continue to do in the years to come and we're currently counting down the days until next season, so with that being said, come on Wildcats, that's what we've got.
I've been working with you today, but I'll be your new coach, Davis, the head coach this year, Mr. Security. Thank you if I can get all of you girls to come a little closer for me, real quick, like come on, exclusive girl, Joan. Don't worry about what she said. It's okay, on my team we only have two rules. It's okay, boys and basketball don't mix. Don't go into the gym talking about boys. I don't want to hear about who's dating who. Who don't I want to listen to? Second rule. If you're not the first, you're the last.
So what are we going to do this year? We will win. Can I hear you all? What are we going to do this year? Okay, ladies, three o'clock, everyone, here, let's go back abroad.
