LAUNCHING TALLY HO!

May 03, 2024
Hello, my name is Leo and I am a boat builder and sailor. A few years ago I bought a very old and quite famous wooden sailboat for the price of 1 dollar and since then I have been rebuilding that boat from KE to the help of many amazing people, so we hope that talio is about to be launched and we are all very excited. I just want to mention that of course there is always a bit of a delay between real life and YouTube videos and the latest videos that I have posted has been an attempt to bridge that gap as much as possible and also communicate what It's really happening in the shipyard in the ship's workshop right now.

I want to apologize because I can't invite everyone to the meeting. launch uh I know some people will be upset about that but unfortunately it's not possible if we have a lot of people showing up here the port will cancel the launch and I'll have a lot of problems to deal with however I really hope this video makes up for it and that you can experience as closely as possible what the launch will be like. We wouldn't be here without you and I am very grateful for all the people who have supported this project and made it possible.

I'm really curious to see how it sits in the water, there's a lot of guesswork and math involved. trying to calculate that and put our ballast in the right place so you know it might be a little bit off but we can adjust it of course. I'm curious to see if we get any leaks, we probably will. It's a wooden boat um and uh, hopefully, if we do it, they'll get busy pretty quickly when the wood swells up a little bit, so I'll see all of that when the boat goes in order, but for now, we've got to put the helm on on going. to put together a lot of rigging stuff we have to put the chain on we have to sand the decks so there's a lot to do this morning really tradition is tradition that all the blue tape stays on yes, but there will be, I'm sure there will be there will be a tape Somewhere, no matter how hard we try, I think this will be for the best.

The launch was a real success. It was a pleasant surprise that the boat sat so well on its lines. Cu. There is a lot of guest work involved in those calculations. We still have a bit of trimming to do but I'm very pleased and of course it was lovely that the build was quite dry.
We now develop a couple of small trickles after a while, but they will stop very soon. so nothing to worry about, all in all it was a really fantastic day, quite nice and beautiful weather and of course after the launch we had a small party on the pier, just some friends, family and the team that worked in the boat and that kind of thing uh and we actually moved the boat to another dock um we didn't want to start the engine right away so we just threw a tip line to a friend and uh we moved to another dock to be out of the way and spent the night on the boat, which was really very special.
It felt really amazing to sleep on the boat and I slept really well and then in the morning I took some beautiful photos as the sun came up. Work there, okay, let's wait, get the game, hey, Mike, keep an eye on everything anywhere, it looks like the ship is going to reach the dock, well up to continue pulling on its bow a little. Are you OK? Yes, that's good, thank you. Look at this real sea wood cheese. oh, thank you all, thank you, it feels really amazing just to be able to look at Talho in the water and feel her floating, feel her moving, the boat was just an object, uh, when it was on land for so long, but now, suddenly, She's a boat, she's got a life and she's already showing her character, she feels stable and safe and really homely and it's just incredible the difference this release makes it's been a long time coming, it was almost seven years ago that I first set up Miré to Tallyho in Oregon and I climbed aboard and started tearing off broken pieces of deck and since then there have been ups and downs, there have been great challenges, really difficult times, there have been a lot of wonderful people, there have been some sad times, some happy times. and many of you have been present for almost the entire trip or at least a good part of it.
There are too many people who are important to this project to thank them individually in a video right now, but if they have been a big part of this project you know who you are and you know how much it means to me now in time I will have many Reflections many thoughts but for now I'm very tired I'm completely exhausted uh I'm elated and devastated so I'm going to try to wrap this up so I can get this video out and post it as soon as possible but I would say the most consistent thing for me throughout this project has been a A deep, profound feeling of gratitude.
I feel very lucky, very grateful to have been able to carry out this project and to have met so many incredible people and to have been supported by so many incredible people in so many different ways.
