how to install throttle and gear selector cables on a boat

boat

, so from the floor to the controls I have 800 and from the controls to the side of my boat it's another 800. I have to remember to go up from the floor to the gunnel again to give me another 800, so from the side of my boat I go to the back of the boat and that gives me another 2.2, so two thousand two hundred and I remember: I will have a loop and the cable. right there and they will come back to the engine so from there I measure the side of my boat to the engine and I remember to leave another loop so the engine can turn and that gives me one thousand eight hundred eight hundred plus 800 plus eight hundred plus two thousand two hundred plus one thousand eight hundred and That gives me six thousand four hundred, so that's six point four meters.

The way I do this is I go to Google and then I find these two feet and I put in six points. four meters and equals twenty point nine nine seven four, so it would be twenty-one feet. The problem with that is that I couldn't find it. 21 feet. The largest cable I could find was 20 feet, but since I left a lot of slack. and I overmeasured it. I'm really sure this should be fine, so it's time to run the

cables

from the front to the back, to where I had my steering cables along the gunwale, through the hole in the back and then up . from there to the motor, note that I have the motor turned all the way to the left and then you also have to remember to leave a loop in this cable so the motor can spin just by testing the cable to make sure there are no obstacles and everything moves freely .

I'll start by removing the controller and on the back of the controller it has two screws that hold the backplate in place so we just remove the two screws and then remove the backplate and then what. What I have to do is test which of these plates that actually hold the cable is the correct one, so by moving it up and down now I can see that the top one is the one that turns the

throttle

control, the throttle cable goes up and at the bottom is the shift lever so the shift cable will go down and the throttle controls will go up on the controller there is a slot and on the spec plate there is another slot and the throttle cylinders these cables will just be run directly into those pieces of equipment and that holds the cables in place on top of these cables, it has a hole in it and that hole will then fit right into this clamping plate on the clamping plate that has a pin that goes through the hole and then it has an eight millimeter nut that will hold the wire and hold it in place, so I'll just use an eight millimeter bushing to tie the wire and then I'll put the barrel in the slot and that will hold it in place.

Remember to

install

the bottom cable first. only for obvious reasons, otherwise if you installed the top cable first you won't be able to access it afterwards. I'm just holding the bottom cable in place with this clamp and that's just to keep it in place while I install the top cable, so the top cable has a similar process, only it has a hole in it and by holding the clamp on clamp, it will go through the hole and I clamp it with a bushing and then I line up the barrels with the bottom cable so the slot in the backplate will just fit into you, then I can remove this clamp and I take the backplate, I line up the slot with a cylinder and then clamp it in the place that will hold it all together.

The next step would be to just put these screws and There and then tighten the screws and then this robot is ready. There are two holes in this controller, one on the top and one on the inside, and that's where I'll have to drill two holes and then attach the controls to the console. I'm starting with the

gear

selector

cable first. There is a slot in the motor and cylinder that simply fits into the slot in the back. There is a rubber cable holder. It is very difficult to pass the cable through you, but it prevents water from entering. it goes in and seals it, so now we have to align the cable by just turning this cylinder, making the cable a little bit longer so it lines up with the shifter on the back, so it fits back into the slot and that lines up. with a clamp on the bolt so I know the cable length is correct so the next step would be to just remove that cable clamp with a 12 millimeter socket so I'm just removing the clamp and these three parts so first of all there is a screw this bolt into the hole you need to line up that spring loaded ball so the cable goes over the bolt and you have this washer that fits into the slot there is a little slot that fits over the bolt and then you have the clamp and the clamp they have this pin on one side the pin lines up with a metal pot on the wire and then just using pliers I just clamp it so the spring on the bolt can push up and push that bolt through and then I can take the nut and just put the nut on there and just use the bushing and just hand tighten this until it grabs and then I can use the bushing to tie it all together and that's the

gear

selector

cable installed and ready to go , then the throttle cable goes in through the rubber cable holder and then by simply adjusting this barrel, we can adjust the length of the cable to line up with the throttle arm and you have this clamp that just holds it and holds it. fastened. into place and we just screw it on, the last tip would be to hold the barrels in place and we just use this clamp and there's a pin on the top so they hook onto that pin on the top and that keeps the barrels in place . and the cables move, all that's left to do now is test everything so that the throttle control is in the neutral position and the gear selector arm is in the neutral position and the throttle lever is all the way back and that's an idle position. then changing the controls to reverse now you have the gear selector all the way back and in its inverted position and then changing the throttle control lever to the forward or F position on the controller and then that's the throttle all the way to the floor . the front and is at its highest revs, also the gear selector is in the forward position and that was installing the engine control cables on my boat.
