Can You Beat Pokémon Fire Red Using the Exact Team That Ash Used For Every Major Battle?

Feb 19, 2020
Welcome to enter the unknown, your one-stop shop for answers to questions you were never bored enough to ask. My name is fj and today we take a step back and try something I've always wondered about: we ask the question, can you

beat

Pokémon FireRed

using

the

exact

Pokémon Ash Ketchum

used

for each

battle

? That's not a catchy title. I have to work on these titles after the experience of making the Bide Only challenge video. This time I needed something a little less intense. This is self explanatory. I'm going to face each of the Gym Leaders and the Champion with the same Pokémon Ash

used

in the anime, which means catching and training the Pokémon you caught, leveling them up to the point where you leveled them, and then fighting the Pokémon.

Pokémon he chose to use. I don't know if you remember this, but Ash was a really dumb kid back in the singing days, he didn't know the ground guys from the flying guys or his butt from his elbow at almost any time. Did he really earn a gym badge? He usually just got the gym leader to feel sorry for him enough to hand him one over. Ash's Pokémon didn't really enjoy evolving anything about this kid who refused to grow or learn. Really inspired. Anyway, I mentioned the levels before, that's the part I'm really interested in since the beginning of the anime.

More Interesting Facts About,

can you beat pok mon fire red using the exact team that ash used for every major battle...

It was established that the levels exist. Dust attack at level five. Sand attack at level 12. Everyone knows it. Now, can you tell me what level Pidgey evolves to? and what is the name of the advanced stage of pidgey based mainly on the moves they have used and the moves they have yet to learn. I'm going to try to specify what level each of the Pokémon required for each important

battle

was at, of course. This is based on Ash's journey, so the battle style is on set and we are not allowed to use items because those are the rules of the anime.

I think I've covered most of it, so let's get into it in Professor Oak's lab and pick up our pikachu. And he watches as Gary takes the squirtle from him. I also realized halfway through making this that I probably should have named my character Ash, but I'm dumb and if I have to live with that, then so do you, okay, I'll leave this behind. first battle with gary but it didn't actually happen this is an example of what definitely wouldn't have happened in the anime pikachu paralyzes squirtle with his first impact and then annihilates him with a second a completely dominant victory after reaching the viridian forest Of course , it's time to catch our first Pokémon, we came across a level 4 caterpillar and after fighting much more than Ash, we finally managed to catch it.

Caterpie wasn't the only Pokémon Ash caught in the British forest, although he managed to catch it too. a pidgeotto, you may also remember that his first line of defense against the flying type was his newly captured caterpillar, like I said, he was a very dumb child, the bug type is eliminated immediately, as expected, I am very sorry for that caterpillar one time Pikachu arrives. Although it only takes one Pokeball to capture Pidgeotto, which was good because she was quite a few levels above us with two new

team

members available, it's time to start training in the same episode where Ash catches Caterpie and Pidgeotto, he also managed to evolve. the worm pokemon turns into metapod which is an action packed episode, then before reaching Pewter City metapod evolves into butterfree, unfortunately he chooses not to use butterfree in the gym battle with brock because even with the type's weakness rock, I'm sure the confusion would have been a It's a good move to have instead Ash goes with his other two Pokémon for the two-on-two battle at the pewter gym after Brock sends out Geodude.
Ash goes with his trusty flying type and after Pidgeotto faints, he sends out his pikachu. You may remember that Ash didn't win. This battle, so I hope we do better, this is where we're headed to the Pikachu battle at level 10 because of Hillary's level 11 and the quick attack, and he definitely didn't know that when Ash fought Brock, his whole of movements consists of a thunderous growl. tail whip and thunder wave, what a terribly useless set of moves. Our second Pokémon Pidgeotto is level 19 with fast attack, sand attack, tackle and burst. Ash's pigeotto never used tackle, but he had used all the other moves by the time of this battle in the later episode.
The matchup in Pewter City, Pidgeotto used whirlwind, which he will learn at level 20. That's obviously close, so 19 seemed like a safe bet, okay, let's get into this. Brock starts with Geodude and we send out Pikachu. There is not much to the electric. The mouse can do in this battle, but you can lower Geodude's defense to soften him up for Pidgeotto after lowering his defense a few stages with the tail whip. Pikachu comes down to attack. It's all up to Pidgeotto now that his defense has taken a hit. A quick attack is almost enough. to land a single hit on the muscular judo rock monster and then wastes a turn

using

the defense curl before a second quick attack knocks him out.
That's for Pikachu. Good job. Brock's mouse ace Onyx is next and his defense is nice and healthy. That's not good with rock. grave at his disposal, we need to prevent him from attacking as quickly as possible. We do a couple of sand attacks right away, but Onyx lands in a rock tomb. We then exchange attacks, which definitely favors Brock. We make three more quick attacks while Onix can only make a single entry, although a couple more attacks are only countered by a single attack with grains of sand clogging the rock snake's eye holes. He can't do much to stop us.
One last quick attack annihilates him and gives us the rock. The Patch Ash elections may have been terrible, but we have overcome them. Okay, let's move on to Cerulean City and the gym battle with Misty and Pikachu refusing to fight their friend. Ash chooses to start with Butterfree and eventually ends up in the water and Ashrae calls. him and send pidgeotto so we have our

team

for the cerulean gym battle this is what they look like butterfree is at level 23 with tackle sleeping powder whirlwind stun in the episode before ash faced misty butterfree used whirlwind so that let's know that he has to be at or around level 23.
Pidgeotto's level 27 with wing attack, sound attack, whirlwind and fast attack with the normal flying type, breaking the wing attack in this same battle in the anime, we can really set her at level 27 with that out of the So let's get into it, the battle in the gym starts like it did in the anime with Butterfree facing off against Misty Staryu. The first exchange sees an entry into a water pulse crossing the sides with Butterfree dealing a bit more damage and then using sleeping powder to put Staryu down. he sleeps and faces two more hits again, knocking out the star-shaped Pokémon before he can wake up and forcing Misty to pull the star out of him once again.
Butterfree has to be hit by a pulse of water before using sleeping powder, but it makes contact for a second. While Starmie sleeps, Butterfree can perform four tackles, including two critical hits, after waking up, Starmie uses water pulse again, confusing Butterfree and leaving him in shot range after breaking the confusion and performing a fifth tackle. , the bug type turns the army into red. health, but Misty uses a super potion to completely heal him without butter, takes out the confusion in time to use stunsport and with Starmie paralyzed, I cut my losses and switch to Pidgeotto. However, the paralysis doesn't stop Starmie from attacking and the water pulse takes off over a third of pidgeotto's health connecting him with a wing attack that does a little less than half before another water pulse lands, which reduces the bird Pokémon to 25 hp, meaning none of our team members can survive another water pulse.
Luckily, pidgeotto's second wing attack is a critical hit and knocks out Starmie to give us the victory that grants us the waterfall badge and with that out of the way we can move on and catch some new Pokémon. There was a three-episode arc in the anime where Ash trapped all of the Kanto starters. and that's where we are now on Route 24. Ash comes across an abandoned Charmander and finally gives the lighter to his team in his debut appearance. Charmander uses a flamethrower for the first time, which puts him at level 31. That may seem high, but I didn't get the rules right, I did, but I'm following those rules anyway.
We added Charmander to our group and then headed to Route 25 to catch a squirtle. Now I'm realizing that Kanto's design seems to differ from the game to the anime or maybe Ash just regressed, we really should have caught Bulbasaur first, but ignore that anyway, the squirrel catches new water guns, so that puts him somewhere in his teens, as in levels, I'm not suggesting that Squirtle is older than Ash or anything. I mean, he could be who knows, I've really lost count of this, we caught a squirrel, that's what I mean, let's move on to the bulbasaur with the grass starter who only knows the tackle and the vine whip as of the tenth episode of the anime that places it. somewhere between level 10 and 15, so 12 seems fine with the three starters now on our team, it's time to head to Vermilion City and take on Lieutenant Serge.
This is one of the most iconic gym battles in the Pokémon series, and unfortunately for me, it's just Ashe. use pikachu, that means we will face voltorb pikachu and raichu only with our lone lone pikachu in the sense that he is completely alone in this battle, not in terms of nature, he is actually careful not to catch him with cheese in his grip and a trap on his neck anyway, you probably know that Ash ends up

beat

ing Lieutenant Surge because Pikachu knows the speed moves that Raichu never learned, namely quick attack and agility, since Pikachu doesn't learn agility until level 33, there It's where we need to start going.
In battle, our pikachu's moveset consists of lightning agility, quick attack and punch, let's try it, Lieutenant Serge sends Voltorb first and obviously we take out Pikachu with a punch, he smashes Voltorb, knocking him out of one and the pikachu Serge's suffers the same fate with a blow. he knocks our clone down and turns him into the one-on-one the anime wanted after a third hit destroys about two-thirds of Raichu's health. It paralyzes us with a thunder wave after a double teamed pikachu breaks the paralysis but misses raichu and crashes to the ground, then the evolved electric mouse uses a quick attack that the anime suggested it wouldn't know and the paralysis stops us retaliate.
Another quick attack hits Pikachu before he crashes to the ground once more. A third quick attack connects and this time it's a crit that takes pikachu down to 11 hp, but it eventually lands again and knocks out raichu, giving us the Thunderbadge and we can finally move on to Saladon City before Ash goes after his fourth gym match, although he says goodbye to Butterfree, so that's our next one. unlucky task hey say goodbye butterfree that's the name of the episode where it's released anyway moving forward in the anime ash faces sabrina before fighting erica but that's not possible in the game so we'll fight Erika first in another complete.
Mess of a Gym Battle Ash's three Pokémon choice is Pikachu Bulbasaur and Charmander, now Pikachu is at level 36 because although he knew thunder at this point in the anime, that was only used in the gym battle with Sabrina, which I pretend hadn't happened. however, the most recent new move that the bulbasaur had used was razor blade and when he finds out that at level 20 21 seems just Charmander at level 35 with smoke screen flamethrower rock slide and metal claw there is no real reasoning here the only clue we have for Charmander is the flamethrower, this is Just where he naturally leveled up so I kept him looking at my team.
You probably realize that this is not going to be enormously difficult. Erica sends the victory bell first and Charmander burns it with a flamethrower. A tangler falls second and once. again, it's a one hit ko flamethrower that knocks out tangler and forces erica to use her last vile plume pokemon, oh and vileplume is down too, that was easy. I have a faint memory of Erica's gym burning down in the anime and I think that just happened again with The Rainbow Badge being added to our case, we can happily move forward in Ash's rematch against Sabrina even though the episode is called Haunter vs Kadabra, he only uses Pikachu.
Haunter appears during the battle, but Ash doesn't actually use it, he's just hanging out. Pikachu used thunder during the first gym battle with Sabrina, but the rematch happens a few episodes later and at this point he naturally reached level 45, so that's what we're going to do with his moveset thatIt is made up of lightning, quick attack, thunder and agility with that out of the way let's jump in sabrina sends her cadabra first and we take out pikachu so once again we return to the anime world this time, although it is a much less difficult battle, a pikachu's critical thunder annihilates the psychic type in one and brings sabrina to three, his female mime lord is next and once again we start with a thunder, it brings mime to less than half his health, but a calm mind means that another shot probably won't knock her down, proving that It's true when Mr.
Mime lives with only one HP, but the thunder at least paralyzes her. Sabrina uses a high ratio to heal a right back before a bolt of lightning cuts off about a third of Mime's hit points. We can speed up and get another beam. enters before mime is ready to move, unfortunately the paralysis doesn't stop her from attacking and the cyber attack hits Pikachu hard below half his health, then misses with a thunderclap before the paralysis does us a favor, we hit mime with a final thunder knocking her out and leaving sabrina with only two venomoth is next and once again the thunder makes its mark, she retaliates with scibeam leaving pikachu with only 17 hp. need aThe Miraculous Thunder connects again and leaves the cutlery connoisseur in one shot range and for some reason he looks for a future sight instead of a companion which buys Pikachu time and he can hit another thunder and get the victory , which was really lucky, so let's take Marsh's badge and leave before we go after our 6th gym badge, we have to reach it because that's what Ash did and it will be important later for now, although not very noteworthy , so let's take a look at the aforementioned gym in Fuchsia City.
Ash chooses to use pidgeotto. and charmander for his gym battle with koga for our team we have pidgeotto at level 33 because at this point the flying type hasn't used any new moves since he learned the wing attack, it's a little difficult to choose

exact

ly where he should be, but This seems fine, Charmander, on the other hand, is nice and easy in the battle with Koga. Charmander explodes with a

fire

spin for the first time and since he finds out that at level 49 that will have to do, let's give it a try. Koga starts with one of his two coughs and we start with Charmander, the

fire

starter, he overcomes the poison type with a flamethrower and performs a single shot when Koga comes out to muk, we switch to Pidgeotto on our side and then we perform a series of moves not damaging for a couple of minutes I'm talking about invasion increase moves precision reduction moves toxic poison moves defense increase moves we have them all once pidgeotto is poisoned we go back to Charmander without having changed much we spam the flamethrower for a moment and we hit the muck twice in our three attempts.
Those attacks bring the purple sewage monster down to a smidgeon of health, which is unfortunate because it convinces Koga to use a high ratio, so, we're back to square one afterwards. After several attempts, we throw another flamethrower at muk to bring him to orange health and then out of nowhere we hit again, that burns the sludge and leaves him with only a few hit points left. The poison type uses his last breath to increase his evasion for the last time. The truly heroic sludge was in battle for about 30 turns and didn't land a single one. attack, it's a bold strategy koga, let's see if it's worth it for you to cough, number two is next and for some reason I switched to pidgeotto, I think the battle with muk broke my brain a little, the first move of the battle It was a flamethrower. he shot an identical pokemon so I probably should have stayed here, in the end the cough knocks out pidgeotto and if we're being honest it was completely my fault.
Ash's goofy boy energy is really rubbing off on me as Charmander returns to battle. An aircraft launcher destroys. coughing because of course he is, we're 1v1. Kouga's wheeze of 8 comes out at the end and after another flamethrower drops him below half his health, he uses a smoke screen. Not enough to stop Charmander, who fires another flamethrower to eliminate the wheezing and earn us the soul badge, okay, time for another detour into the safari zone. Ash is surprised in Taurus and if you're wondering why the footage you're seeing is subtitled it's because this episode was never dubbed into English, this episode never aired in the US and honestly, I'm not sure why it is. really a mystery, anyway, we need to choose a tauros for accuracy, so let's do it.
It takes a little time, but eventually we will have our hands on the grassland Pokémon and we can move on, now you can or You may not know that Ash didn't just catch a Taurus in the safari zone, in fact,

every

time he tried to get a Different Pokémon, a herd of Taurus galloped by and finished off another one, so I wasted a day doing that. unnecessary I think I have a problem, let's move on before we head to Cinnabar Island to face Blaine, we have to do some quick grinding when Charmander knocks out a wild raticate to reach level 50, it evolves into Charmeleon, but you know that's not it will be like this. lasts a long time, it seems wrong to think of ash with a charmeleon, so when he knocks out a growlithe to level up to 51, we get a new charizard and then we head to the cinema bar to wander around the pokemon mansion a bit and take a look at the fossil that we picked up, it's a little break from the action before jumping into our penultimate gym battle.
Ash actually failed in his first battle against Blaine, but when he finally triumphed he was using only his Charizard. This is another pretty iconic gym battle. As far as our Charizard's level goes, this one doesn't make much sense, but hear me out, Charizard learns Dragon Rage at level 54 and he hadn't learned it in the anime yet. I know the Charizard on the screen already knows this. but that's charmander's fault, blame that adorable little lizard. I think 51 is fine and that's what I'm going to do. This actually works very well with stab and the big difference between our attack and special attack.
I'm not sure the difference between rockslide and The flamethrower was that huge grunt, the horse falls into one once again, Ponyta just survives and because she does it means Blaine gets burned at two high rates before the horse finally burns. faint Rapidash manages to do a single stomp between flamethrowers that annihilate him, leaving only arcanine behind. Every one of our attacks, Blaine's ace counters with a knockback, and unfortunately for him, that meant knockback damage, so even though he gets Charizard to red health, our newly evolved Pokémon finishes them off without really stressing them out. Blaine hands over the volcano badge and now there is only one. there's room left in our batch case as is tradition at this point the viridian gym battle is a complete and utter disaster ash won't even face giovanni he's just fighting jesse instead of the fake gym battle he used squirtle bulbasaur pidgeotto and pikachu so let's check Find out where they are for level 46 of our team, Bulbasaur, which considering he used a solar ray long before this battle in the anime, seems to be the lowest, possibly it should be Squirtle, it's a little more difficult to specify, although the water starter is at the level. 45, which seems fine because when Ash arrived in Viridian City, Squirtle had been using Skull Bash for 30 odd episodes, although he still hadn't used the hydraulic pump and wouldn't for a while.
We've already looked at Pikachu enough at this point. just the natural level of him in this part of the game and it seems okay, finally we have Pidgeotto and this is the most difficult of the four in this battle in the anime. Pidgeotto bursts into double-edged for the first time, but it's not like that. learn that leveling up we're in a tough situation instead of thinking too much we'll just leave it at 41 for now and enter the battle. Giovanni starts with his lower level Ryhorn and we send Bulbasaur a single blade. Leaf destroys Spike's Pokémon and, for some reason, Team Rocket's leader sends the second right horn out of him.
Once again a razor blade does the trick to get a consecutive shot for Bulbasaur as the Doug Trio comes in, we switch to Pidgeotto predicting an earthquake which works perfectly and the flying guy glides through the sky as the Doug Trio makes a real mess in the battlefield a combination of sand attack, wing attack and fly defeats doug trio before he can do too much damage, nidoqueen is next and after a couple of sand attacks and a quick attack she knocks out pidgeotto, then we enter pikachu just to give you an idea of the battle, after performing a quick attack, nidoqueen destroys it, although now

every

thing comes down to a two against two, squirtle enters and manages to overcome nidoqueen and connect with the waves to knock her out.
Giovanni takes out Nidaking at the end and is faster than his female cohort and outruns Squirtle to cause an earthquake that leaves the Kanto water starter below half his health, but the waves hit back hard and They knock out the drill. Pokémon to give us the victory with our badge case full, we can finally head north to the Pokémon league before we get ahead of ourselves, although we have some new Pokémon to catch, we added bay snorlax and haircuts to our team and yes. I think he trapped them all at high levels on Route 22.
That's definitely how it happened in the anime and I'd rather you didn't question it. Now I'm going to move on to the champion and our rival Gary Ash. He has fought Lorelai and Agatha in the anime, but they were just one-on-one matches using his Pikachu. Larla wasn't even using his real name. I reviewed them and recorded them, but it wasn't very interesting, so I left it. Just pretend the elite four don't exist ash vs gary is all that matters now so let's see what team we're going to use when ash and gary finally face off after five years of waiting the protagonists of pokemon used the taurus team in all the country. muck laurel snorlax and charizard so for the last time let's take a look at our team we will start with tauros who is level 53 with knockdown strength and arrogance and we will rest in the anime tauros used knockdown like three years before this battle so it has to be at least 53.
We have Snorlax at level 54 with Hyper Beam Block Sleep Talk and deploy it once again. It had been years since Snorlax used his most advanced move, so again 54 is probably bringing him down a lot at level 56 with disabling the sled bomb, minimizing and screeching. at no point did he learn memento, so I just kept her below level 61. This was just the natural point where she reached Charizard's level at 55 with Dragon Rage Rockslide flamethrower and Firespin. At this point, Charizard had used Dragon Rage, so honestly, this seems about right. The low to mid 50s felt good for everyone.
Bay Leaf is at level 52 with drain reflex synthesis and body hit. Ash's Bay Leaf never used Sunbeam, so I was just making sure to keep it under 55. We finally have it at level 53 with Brick Breaking Megahorn Knockdown and Reversal with Bug Fighting Type Breaking the mega horn for the first time in this battle. 53 is probably a good time to relive this iconic battle, but where Gary accidentally messed up two-thirds of his team. Come on, Gary leads. with pidgeot and we send trash first after the initial trapeze artist does some damage, muk returns double the force with a mud bomb, then we just recreate that spin and pidgeot falls without trash in too much trouble, gary sends alakazam next and No We really don't have much choice here, no one wants to have a companion from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Spoon, so we just have to accept that Muk's time is up, one shot clears the poison type and evens the matchup, then we'll exit with Taurus. and alakazam cleverly puts in a reflex that softens the blow of the knockdown partner, causes a lot of damage to the taurus, but survives it and with a critical force gives us the advantage, once again, exeggutor appears next and there is no point in switching like that.
He called tauros to use knockdown unfortunately reflect continues to damage the damage of physical moves and with a single giga drain the battle squares off once again charizard leaves our side and completely incinerates the palm tree with the flamethrower gary then gives us the fight that's all they want to see but I don't want Charizard to get dragged so I switch to Bayley, Blastoise's hydraulic pump still does decent damage even though it's not very effective, luckily on the second try it fails allowing Bayleaf. to get out of a giga drain with the grass type healing on every attack, he actually takes the lead in the battle, but once Blastoise's health drops, Gary simply forgets the clearly divine rules and uses a full restore that coincided with the moment when Bayley was over. pp for his only grass type move, we keep pushing with just a body blow, but the tide has really turned now, although he manages to paralyzeBlastoise, the water type emerges victorious in the end and makes it a 3v3, we send her through the next and a megahorn takes the turtle down for a second time, but once again Gary uses a full restore and then in interval, a brick breaks and a mega horn returns him to red health, but Gary just casts another full restore at this point, he's out of pp. for hydropump and I can barely touch Harcross, so we get it to orange health with a couple of brick breaks instead of using mega horn and then take it out with a third Pokémon.
Gary's fifth Pokémon is arcanine and that's not a good matchup for Heracross, so we switch. we go to snorlax, then we have a back and forth battle with flamethrowers and hyper beams in which snorlax almost comes out better while recharging, although Rydon finishes him off with an earthquake and makes it a two on one. Charizard comes in and this is a real bad matchup for us the flamethrower deals solid damage before a rock tomb completely destroys charizard in one like this, we have the last two pokemon left heracross returns and immediately gets to work breaking bricks, the super effective move lands and cuts well through almost nothing, Gary doesn't care though he just throws a full restore on Rydon's head and keeps the battle going, another brick break continues until he reaches orange health but it actually outclasses he haracos and achieves a takedown before a final brick break ends.
The Job Heracross is officially the sole survivor of the Battle of Champions and we have overcome the red fire using Ash's exact equipment for every

major

battle. I know this wasn't the hardest challenge, but I personally found it very interesting to research and put together. and I hope you do too, this was quite different than my usual challenge video, so thanks for sticking around. The last few weeks have been really good for my channel and I can't thank you all enough for the support. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time.
