Apr 07, 2024
There have been a lot of questions recently about the Habs' goaltending depth and we're going to get into a couple of 20-year-old CHL stand-ups that the Habs

could

target either in the draft or after going through the draft in free agency. We'll talk about that, plus Matthew San Luis shed some light on his unique relationship with Kent and finally, we'll talk about the rich people using a small loophole in the collective bargaining agreement to retain one of their

goalie

prospects, so you don't want to miss

goalie

situation again because it is a point of concern, really at

this

point there is a pair. goaltenders in the CHL that DeMarco D'Amico has mentioned that he's been getting a lot of questions about potential potential targets that they have this summer and let's talk about that, so first of all we have William Rousseau and Thomas Millich.

More Interesting Facts About,

this sneaky move could be amazing for the habs could this solve montreal s goalie problem...

William Rousseau is the Quebec goalkeeper playing for the Quebec Walls currently in the Memorial Cup. Thomas Millage does the same thing except he plays for the Seattle Thunderbirds and their two undrafted 20 year old goalies and the way you know the rules are basically written because they play North American hockey. and they started before the age of 20, they still have to go through this draft until they are unrestricted free agents when sometimes if you are international you can be an unrestricted free agent at this age and the Habs have had a bit of a history. history of selecting 20 year old players on the draft table with Miguel tulini Jared Davidson Xavier simono and even Raphael Harvey Pinav, they were all selected as 20 year old players, so Jesse, before getting into the statistics of Russo and Milich, do you think the Habs

could

potentially target these guys in the draft or maybe after, or do you think one of these guys could even be a good fit in the system, give me your opinion because they've been playing out of their depth recently, yeah, either in the draft or after.

Absolutely, we've seen these two goalies, they back you on their teams to first place in the Memorial Cup. You know, they play really well, so to be honest, I don't know about you, Josh, but I'm kind of excited about this. news because I feel like it's a very important area for the team to address and I think getting someone a little young, but maybe around 20 years old, as agents, it's young, but not too young, as we know that goalkeepers They have time to develop. but I think he also goes with our young Thor, so I think he would really fit very well into the timeline and I'm a big fan of both players.
this sneaky move could be amazing for the habs could this solve montreal s goalie problem
Yes, first let's dig a little deeper into William Husso who just lost his first game in the Memorial Cup, I think it was his first loss. I could be wrong but anyway at the hands of Owen at Peterborough Pete's but he's been pretty good by Rabbi qmjhl standards and 908 says percentage in the regular season 9 15 in the playoffs so far 2.22 goals against Savage in the tail where the score can be very high is pretty impressive and another thing, Jesse, if we look at that list of players that the rich have drafted when they were 20 years old, you see some Quebec names on there, so I mean, would you be surprised if they picked a guy who plays for the walls of Quebec?
He's six feet tall and has shown a lot of potential like maybe a fifth or sixth round pick. It seems like they've at least been chasing his bouncer. In recent years, I think he's definitely worth picking up and if you look at the recent drop history, you can get very good goaltenders in these types of ranges. In fact, it happens every year, so you know he's not a big guy with a 6.1. so I'm wondering if maybe this is part of the reason why he hasn't been drafted yet, but I'm wondering if as time goes on we've seen his eyes become less important, first with the forwards and then with the right defender, etc. with goalkeepers, that seems to be the bottom dollar because you know size is almost everything for goalkeepers, a lot of gems, it's like betting on size, you know, six fours, okay, numbers, the Juniors, yeah, let's take a rider on them, for sure, although I wonder.
If maybe some of these smaller but still athletic guys start taking more shots in the future, yeah, it's interesting because I think six one would be tied for the shortest goal in the NHL today and talking about guys that aren't that big. if we take a look at Millitch, who has much better numbers, I mean in The Who 2.0 hcaa in the regular season 9 28, let's say 1.95 GAA percentage and 19 playoff games in the 933, but he's only six foot 179, I mean, he's not really a big guy he didn't become cool either. hair, but again you are so right Jesse, you have to, you have to wonder, only small goalies don't make it to the NHL anymore, there really aren't that many small guys, so unless these guys grow up and at the age of 20 years, it's really not that likely. so I mean I wouldn't be surprised if the smaller goalies maybe had a little more shooting in the future, but regardless of that, these guys are two guys that, at least for depth purposes, from Montreal, you have to think that Maybe they have for the AHL or ECHL, no matter what because they only have four goalies right now in their entire system, it might be worth looking into.
Let's talk about topic number two today. Jesse and I want to know your opinion on this real quick, so as soon as as soon as we show it because we recently have something fun here on spit and checklist Marathon St. Louis said Kent and I a long time ago he's five years older than me he went to Middlebury I went to Vermont he used to be my camp Counselor for a Summers couple back in Montreal we knew each other for a long time we became close friends this whole interview was very funny I suggest you go see it Marty is a great guy but Jesse this took me by surprise.
Do you think about this relationship and think that maybe it is beneficial for the organization? It is funny. I knew they were friends, but I didn't know they were sitting around the fire making marshmallows and hiking together and everything else. It's pretty funny right, we know the hockey world is a small world, but it seems like it's even smaller, so you know it's cool because you know as an organization, as we talk about all the time on the show, what a great culture that the Montreal Canadians have, you know what a great environment it is, you know, so it seems like you know now that we're looking at some of these reasons why the right thing to do is obviously not to be able to, he has a relationship with Jeff and obviously with Martin like a relationship, you know, it seems like everyone knows each other, obviously, with mine in St.
Louis, there we have, this is like a gay cowboy, too, you know, it's really a family thing here, uh, with the team that You know, it's great. I listen and it definitely shows and I mean it's a theme that you see a lot in successful organizations when you look at all sports, like for example the Spurs dynasty and basketball, the Patriots dynasty and in football you have this type feeling like a lot of the guys on the team not just the players but the coaches, the management, everyone feels like a big group, a big family and that chemistry, that cohesion often leads to success and, you know, I think which for me is a very, very good sign, like you.
He said when you see this type of championship environment in your organization, that's so true, it's so true, to be honest, and that's what we're building toward as well, so it's important to not only be able to be on the ice. but also have those relationships off the ice, right, if that's so important now that you're playing, what the environment is, as we've seen, you know the type of coach that had a big effect on how the players play and everything. And I think he helps a lot when you're really having, you know, that great camaraderie, not just with the players, but I think with management is where it often matters most of those key decisions, positions, yeah, for sure.
Alright, let's get into the final part and we'll continue with the topic of management for a moment. Look, I use the word lagoon. I've seen people like on Twitter use the word lagoon and I don't know if. is the most accurate, but the Habs used a specific CBA write-up to retain one of their prospects and, as I mentioned in yesterday's video, they ended up not wanting to keep Frederick D's program. I think D shows how to pronounce it. I think I pronounce it more adhesive, I really don't even know, but anyway you guys correct us, but it's kind of interesting that the Habs had another goalie Joe verbatic uh in the ECHL playing primarily with 12 year old Leon and let's take a look at this conversation .
As for Joe Vermetica, we thought the Habs wouldn't be able to keep him, but according to Clause 8.6.2 of the NHL's CBA, he's actually eligible to have his rights extended because he left Major Junior a year early, so What if your draft is an 18-year-old. which one was alphabetical and you don't play in juniors in the second year of the league after you were drafted, the Habs, well the Habs in this case or the team actually gets them until June 4th 1 after their initial selection, like this which, in short, because he jumped. to the ECHL pros at the age of 19, just a year away from his draft year, he left Major Junior, which actually gives the organization extra time to get a handle on him, so Jesse, I'll ask you this, do you think the Habs?
He more or less did this intentionally just because they knew this. I'm sure they knew that, but secondly, Verbal Joe, do you think maybe he has some kind of future with halves? We haven't heard from an entire law firm. In fact, I saw. He plays in the ECHL in Newfoundland, but I mean he's an interesting guy. Do you think there's a reason why maybe they decided to keep him instead of someone like D Show who maybe has better numbers? Yes, I think this was a great hat decision. All in all, it was an interesting decision because Frederick's show had better numbers than Verbal Joe, you know, last year, you know, and he definitely even played at a slightly higher level, um, that being said, like me, Lo What I like about this news, Josh, is that it seems like they're trying to be a little more competitive now with their roster spots and that's why I think they're really going to try to get to an earlier point in finding a goalie, whether it's the draft or after because they chose not to use one of those rap spots on the list in decoding when they could have had a lot and the reason they went with the dramatic is because they have a little bit of that flexibility where they don't need to give themselves one of those roster spots and at the same time giving them time to develop, so to answer your second point, I think that question is still up in the air and that's why I think it's a wise decision, it's like we still want that depth and we need it. but we want to start being more competitive and we have to be very selective about how many NHL offers we give, of course, we only have a limited amount, so for me, I'm a little discreet because to me it's a sign that we're going to start to be more competitive as we become more selective with our roster spot, so that's the next step in the rebuild.
I think that's an

amazing

point yeah he doesn't use one of the NHL Ross responsible for medicine with uh while a d show that's a great point that I didn't mention yeah it's very interesting because we know the Habs have so many guys that could potentially eat up these NHL roster spots and so many guys that they could go after, there are so many opportunities for this organization to grow and like you said, these roster spots are incredibly valuable, so I'm completely agree with you. I think you made some surprising points. I think it's an

amazing

move

, a very underrated subtle

move

when a lot of people maybe thought that D show was better verbetic it has potential to be good it's still very young so anyway it will be a very interesting story to follow but that will be enough for this
