6.0 Powerstroke - EGR Delete, Turbo Troubles

Mar 08, 2024
Hello everyone, compare, everything is fine. I know it's been a while. I have not been able to update. I will keep you updated. I prefer to be on the channel. I've been very busy this summer. I thought summer would be when I could do it. The videos turn out exactly the opposite, it's true. I'm very busy and it is what it is, so I apologize, but now that we're into fall and winter, I hope that changes behind me. This is the 2006 f250 I had. I was going to flip it, it had a bad EGR, fix the EGR and I was going to flip it and sell it well.

I was thinking about it and I drove it and you know, I drive it every week just to keep it moving and I had a change of heart, I ended up keeping this for a commercial truck, okay, so I have a little engine tear down parts business and all that, yeah, this is perfect, okay, perfect truck transmissions in excellent condition, engines in pretty decent condition and I decided to keep it so I know what I'm thinking Oh no, he already has a problem, I don't really want to go into it. I was there once to replace the EGR because I was going to sell it well now that I'll keep it.

I would like to

delete

the EGR so now we are going to do the EGR

turbo

rebuild and I think that's it so come with me I will document it as we go here and there are many videos of how to do this online, so I won't do it. Make this a how-to, but yeah, I thought I'd keep you updated and take you with me, so here we go, okay, as you can see, I've already started here and I've got the air. I have the air filter outside. I've got the little intake elbow out here.

I have the belt anyway. That's where I am now. It will be necessary to remove the additional

turbo

. Remove the turbo pipe. Oil. The oil filter assembly will need to be removed from the fuel filter cooler. The turbo needs to be removed and then at the intake we can remove it and we can rebuild that turbo to make it work. I'm just taking my time obviously I'm not in a rush and Yeah so far it's going well so let's continue and keep it good so you've got the turbo off as you can see sitting on the bench so I'll try to leave a few more things out. the fit goes in there, I think you're probably supposed to take it out.

I'm not sure we'll leave it there. I have to disconnect the EGR from the white tube, just plug it in there. I need to remove this turbo pedestal before that. It's a turbo pedestal, kind of EGR from the Y pipe and then I think I should be able to unscrew the intake manifold and take it off so I can then get rid of the EGR and then I need to remove the oil. It's better because I have to replace the screen. I never did that the first time I was here and it's a no-no and I'm going to correct my mistake now, so other than that, I'm trying to think that we're going to rebuild as well. the turbo too while we take it out, so we are almost in the reinstallation phase.
I have to take out some parts and then we move on to the EGR removal so here we go ok time to update I have the turbo part here and I'm in the process of rebuilding it has the shroud cleaned up a little here so let's go put new bearings in the turbine here, put this back together and then on the truck, I just put the oil cooler back in. Once I got it out, I replaced the oil screen, which I'll show you here in a second. I also tidied up the wiring harness a little bit just to clean it up a little bit and show the oil screen so you can see this is pretty.
Dirty, this is located under the oil cooler and yes, it should be replaced every time you are in that part. You know if you have your intake manifold out you need to go ahead and replace it so yeah it's definitely a replacement one last thing so I was. I'm going to do the EGR kit and I actually bought it and realized how much of a pain it was to replace the pipe so I went and bought my cooler. I soldered the ends closed. This is another way you can remove it. and then this just falls back into place, you can't get exhaust gases through here and it's essentially a DIY EGR delete, so I've heard these are better long term than the other ones, the other kits according to Power Stroke help, so yeah, that's going to be Come back in, I clean up the entrance a little bit, but we're moving forward, we're making good progress for sure, so we're almost done with this project.
I have a few more things to put here. an air filter in the intake elbow of the fan shroud. I'm waiting for some new parts. I have a new serpentine belt. Well, I already removed it. I thought I'd go ahead and replace it and a few other things, so it's almost ready to go. I need to button it up and finish it and yeah we're done so let's get this right everything is back together as you can see and I just need to tighten the oil filter and the filter cap so it's done. Come on, I'll try to turn it around.
I'm going to omit the glow plugs so it doesn't light up. Just turn it a little to build up some oil pressure. I fill the filter housing with oil and circulate it a little. of that oil, so I'm going to do that and then see if it comes on and see if it sounds good, so update the truck here. I turned it on and it was running, it had no boost and was leaking oil all over the valley. it was pouring out so I rewind for a second when I put the turbo back together I noticed that the Unison ring didn't slide back and forth very well on the exhaust side or exhaust housing so right there I almost decided to put in a new or different turbo and even though I cleaned it up a little, it moved a little far from what I wanted.
I know how I wanted it to move, but I thought it was good enough, so I put it back together anyway. Massive oil leak. It looks like it was internal and there were no boosters so obviously I put something together wrong doing the rebuild so I said screw it and went and bought a brand new Gerrits turbo with Amazon Prime shipping and $700 later here's the new turbo, everything installed and everything, so sorry I didn't get a video or more depth of the installation, but I was mad and wanted to get it done, so it's done, it's there.
I'm going to patch things. Get up and see if it's not better this time so here we go ok update the greasy six leak here put it in put the new turbo much better whoever it is it still has a really big oil leak so I'll do it I took everything apart, the intake and all the leaks were there. Coming from the oil cooler and I took it off and there was a big chunk of dirt underneath so that's a total rookie mistake okay clean your surfaces and clean your gaskets before you put them on so I took it all apart.
Got a new gasket for the oil cooler although I think it was the gasket it was just dirt but play it safe put a new gasket in there cleaned the surface very well dropped the oil cooler in there if I can't see it . The low refrigerators fell there ready to go. I'm going to fix everything and hope this is it. I wish it's been going on almost two weeks since I've been working on some stupid thing that was supposed to be a couple day project for the EGR removes a huge mess, it was worth it because I took that oil cooler.
I took out the oil cooler to replace the oil cooler screen, which was very dirty and should have been replaced in the first place the first time a long time ago. We're there, but whatever you live and learn, and it is what it is, so we're going to fix it all up and put it back together and hopefully be up and running by the end of tonight, so here we go, here it is all. repaired, finished, ready to go, oil leak is clear, new turbo is broken, sounds and feels great, everything seems fine, so I learned a couple of lessons on this, first of all, replace the screen from the oil cooler every time it's on the engine, you know? removing the intake manifold as well when you put things back together clean your damn surfaces and your gaskets make sure the gaskets are good and flush them anyway so the EGR removal is complete and this is ready to go so that the next step is to replace the The lower parts of the doors I have new ones, take a look here, a little rusty, so the lower parts of the doors need to be replaced.
I need to weld new ones in, fix some rust spots on the fenders and then we'll do a bed liner on the bottom half down. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video. I hope to have more videos on this truck here. This truck is next. I'll take it to the garage in the next few days and start working on a couple things. Tyrod. brakes emergency brake and that's next so again I hope you enjoyed the video thanks for watching if you want to see more videos like this make sure to subscribe to this video and yeah enjoy the rest of your day thanks again
