Plunge Cut (Trigger). How to safely cut a heavy leaner.
Apr 14, 2024here we have a tree that is very leaning, if I make a notch and start from the back, this tree will turn into a barber chair and create a very dangerous situation, so what I'm going to make is a deep cut. Here I'm going to make my notch I'm going to go in through the center and cut back there's two ways I can do it I can dip in here after I make my notch leaving my hinge preset and come back this way and come right out the back or I can get my saw out and then go in this way and release the tree, but I'll have a
trigger
back here that releases the tree, okay, here I want both cuts to come out the same if you cut past that's what Call a Dutchman and that will make the tree more likely to be a barber chair. This tree is most likely going to be barbecued first so I want to make sure the two go together perfectly so first I made my top cut which allows me to look through this crack and watch my bar come out of this side and that way this was a little bit I had a little dutch here so I cleaned it up so here we are first I cut this top cut it allows me to see through this crack so when my bar comes out the other side here , which allows me to stop cutting and cut this so that they come out perfectly equal.
Now I'm going to go back about ten percent of the diameter of the tree to preset my hinge. Make a hole cut this way, a
plunge
cut, then I'll check that side to make sure it's at 10 and if both sides are good, I'll cut this way through the tree to release thetrigger
. Wow, I finished myplunge
cut. Now I'm going to cut back to release the trigger. I have an escape route behind me, okay, if you notice, I made my open face cut here, I come this way with my saw, I cut back here and left the trigger, I could have taken the tip of my saw and cut this way, but the tree that was in the way was getting a little difficult, so I decided to cut back and release the trigger that way if I had started this way cutting the cut with thatheavy
tilt, if it started to move when I said here, the tree would have presided over the barber in the center and could have killed me, so it's a really easy way to stay alive. If you have any copyright issue, please Contact
