bag is really quick and

easy

to make and is perfect for using up scraps, so grab your machine and let's start sewing all the tools and supplies, including the presser feet you'll need for this project, which are listed in the description below . You will need three different types of materials for this zipper bag first you will need to choose what your outer material will be and you will need two of the ones that measure 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall.

You will also need two pieces of material for the lining that also measure 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall and then you will need two small zipper ends that are one and a half inches wide by two inches tall and you will also need a zipper, now you can have a really long zipper. But ultimately we'll want it at minus 12 inches long because we're about to do some fancy cuts to make it the perfect length for our zipper bag again, the length doesn't matter much because we're about to adjust it, here's what what are you going to do open?

Lower the zipper a couple of inches and then squeeze the teeth of the zipper so that they kiss and wrap them with a piece of duct tape to secure everything in place and now we're going to take a pair of scissors and we're going to cut that little piece of tape, now you want to leave a little piece of tape there because the idea is that the zipper pull doesn't accidentally come off and now we're going to measure eight. inches and a half from the Tippy tip of the zipper to the end, now we are going to fold the ends of the zipper, now with the width remaining at an inch and a half, we will fold the length in half. inches in with the right sides facing out so the raw edges are touching and then you're going to fold it one more time so the folded edges are touching and you can press them together, these will be the safety types. the small end of the zipper on both ends and this will give a clean, professional look to our zipper bag and now it's time to take those little zipper ends that we just created and wrap them around the end of the zipper that we're going to to add one of these to the bottom of the zipper and to the top of the zipper just clip it in place and you'll notice it's really simple you'll just place it right into that little crease and also notice that your materials are with the side right out and now we're going to go to the sewing machine and do some top stitching to secure it in place.

Set up your machine with matching thread on the top and bobbin and a new needle and you'll be using a normal standard presser foot for this application. Set your machine to sew normally. We'll take those little zipper ends and sew on about an eighth of an inch. to the right of the end of that fabric, you can use a stylus right here to help advance that material. Sew back at the end, hold your little threads and check it now, repeat on the other side. This is a great application for these little Clips too because they keep them in place and you don't have to figure out how to put a pin through all those layers again.

The Stiletto is a wonderful notion because it acts as a third hand for places where fingers can't always get in, now let's trim the ends of the zipper a little. We want to make sure the end of each side lines up with the zipper tape, so just pull out those little ends. and you can fix it and make sure they look really nice like this and throw away the extra materials to start inserting the zipper. We're only going to need a lining and an outer piece and, of course, the zipper. Now fold that zipper. in half with the wrong sides facing each other and you are going to place a mark on the zipper tape.

Now fold the outer material in half widthwise and place a mark along the top edge again, which would be 10 inches wide. You're going to take the zipper and turn it wrong side up, lining up the center and lining up the top edge of both the zipper and the outside. Now take the lining and lay them right sides together with the outside and sandwich that little zipper. inside and now we are going to place the three layers, the exterior, the zipper and the lining. Now you can use pins, but I find it's a little tricky to get through all those layers and I think these little clips are great for just applique.

This way you will place clips along the top edge connecting those three layers and definitely make sure it covers the zipper. Now you're going to want to use a zipper foot so check your user manual and make sure you have one and set the needle position to line it up perfectly and we're going to sew along that top seam to attach our zipper now to my particular machine . I have a zipper foot and I can adjust the width or position of my needle on my machine so that the needle goes directly through that position on the zipper foot.

I didn't need to adjust anything. I just wanted to move the needle and make sure everything fit. Now you'll notice that my presser foot is technically in the right hand. side of the zipper, look, now you're going to want to open the zipper, so just pull that little zipper down so the presser foot doesn't move over the top of the zipper, take your time and sew making sure all of those edges long ones are

lined

up once you get to a certain point you can go ahead and close the zipper basically just pull the zipper up and continue sewing you'll notice I'm using my stylus just because it helps me get it right. in that area and you are going to sew to the end of the material, sew the threads and you have just inserted one side of the zipper, now it is time to go to the ironing board and you are going to press.

That seam is nice and flat and note that the zipper pull is still underneath. Now open the lining and the exterior and press the zipper until it is flat but open it to the side and then lastly you are going to turn the lining inside out. down and you're going to smooth everything out and you're going to press the entire zipper all the way down. Now it's time to attach the other side of our zipper bag and we will do it exactly the same way as you did before by joining all the layers together. Now go back to your sewing machine and sew exactly as you did before.

We're going to sew completely from one edge to the other sewing the other side of that zipper on our project, just remove it. clips as you go and remember, as before, we're going to need to adjust the zipper up and down as needed to get it out of the way of our presser foot and, as before, when you're done. We're going to sew back at the end, trim the threads and now we're not going to show it, but you're going to press that seam like you did before, when you're done pressing the seam, it's going to look something like this with your outers and your linings together and now it's time to sew the side seams.

Now you'll notice that I have my seam allowances at the top where the zipper is opposite each other, there you go and you're going to just make the seam itself completely butt, but with the seam allowances facing opposite directions and you'll notice that we're pinning the outside to the outside and the lining to the lining, go ahead and pin the entire length, all together from the outside and the lining and now that you have one side completely finished, flip it over to the other side and you're going to do the same. Now pay attention to the direction that the seam allowances are going on that first side that you pinned because you are going to want to repeat and put the seam allowances in exactly the same direction and, as before, you are going to place the pins all the way to the end connecting those raw edges like this, so I've left the seam allowance along both sides and you're going to To use a regular straight stitch foot, changing the presser foot on your machine should be something that's easy and that you can use. feel comfortable, so get used to doing it and make sure that the needle is set back to the center needle position and that You know where the half inch seam allowance is going to be and now let's go ahead and sew our first side seam.

You'll notice that we are sewing everything together, the lining all the way to the outside, and of course, remember to remove the straight pins as you go. Now that you're sewing, when you get to the zipper area, squish it down and you'll feel where you're going to need to sew over it, but I have to tell you that you're going to want to make sure that your zipper is open, open it at least halfway, so here grab the zipper pull. the zipper and open it. Now re-stitch the side seam and as you sew that little end of the zipper, make sure you don't snag it. end of the zipper in your seam, we are only sewing that side seam allowance and remember we are sewing with a half inch seam allowance, go all the way and sew back, trim the threads and now we are going to repeat on the other side.

Sewing this time we're going to start at our outside back stitch, sew all the way down and again remember that once you get to that seam, you're going to continue with a half inch seam allowance, but you just don't want to sew over the actual end of the zipper. and once you get to the end of the back stitch, cut the threads and that's it, while we're at our sewing machine, we're going to go ahead and sew the bottom front seam for the outside, same half inch seam allowance. sew from one edge to the other, sew the threads and that's it, and now for the lining, you're going to sew from one edge all the way to the end to about four or five inches, cut the threads and you're going to measure the area for an opening and I used about three inches for the opening because it's pretty easy to stick your hand in or a rotary device now you're going to leave that three inch section completely unstitched, they're going to the beginning of where the pin was and you're going to sew back, so the continuation of the bottom lining seam sew the threads back together and now you have the seam for the bottom lining and you have a nice little opening so we can You can turn our zipper bag inside out and now it's time to press a little bit more.

You're going to press all the seams nice and flat, meaning both side seams, the outside bottom seam, and of course the bottom seam of the lining when you get there. to where the zipper is, just flatten it down and place the iron directly on that little area and press it nice and flat mitered on the four corners of your bag, which is the outside and the lining, this will help you when you turn the things on the right side. out and now it's time to turn our zipper bag inside out, now put your fingers there and grab the zipper pull and open it as much as you can, then turn your bag inside out and my preferred method is to use the easy stitch and Turner, this is a really useful way that will save you wrist strain and makes it very easy to turn things inside out and once you've turned the bag to the right side, we'll move on. and use a bamboo wood Point Turner to get into the corners and make sure those corners are nice and sharp and the bamboo Point Turner will help you do this and you'll go to the four corners of the outside and of course the siding .

Also, be careful not to puncture the outside of your material, you don't want to damage that seam and now let's go back to the ironing board and open those little zipper ends with your fingers and now it's time to give our little bag a little pressure , you'll notice I'm pressing the outside first and kind of rolling the seam, press a little, roll a little, make sure it's nice and flat. Now let's repeat the process for our lining and remember in our lining we have that opening so we're going to make sure we press that seam nice and flat because we're going to go back to the sewing machine and sew this once you've finished that seam you can see it right there. you're going to turn the liner over and place it inside your shell, you just spread your hands out and squish it all down there, make sure it's nice and flat and now it's time to give our bag another good squeeze, tighten the zipper and roll it up. the zipper so it's nice and flat and just keep manipulating, rolling and pressing a little until you're happy with the look of the bag and one of the things I like about this marker is that when I'm done I can just remove it with the other end of the pen, now you can go back with your swivel tip and push a little bit more and especially around the ends of the zipper, you can just open it up there and press it in really good to finish.
