I Tried Amazon FBA for 6 Months - The Honest Results

May 30, 2021
troy was that you were paying for ppc, you were paying for data, you were paying for the algorithm to recognize that you have a legitimate product and that's fine, so the people who win at Amazon in entrepreneurship are the people who are in it for the long term. , so let's continue with month number two. How many units did you sell? How much income did you get? Yeah, one two.one two was great. I made about 250 units, so I got 50 units better. I am moving towards my goal. I made around 1600 in income. Also at some point I decided to try to see if I could sell at a slightly higher price and I didn't.

It didn't affect my sales at all, so I was able to keep it there and I also found something called small and light shipping, which basically means I can only sell on Amazon, so if I wanted to sell on eBay or sell on my own, I could do that. I don't have eBay or I couldn't get Amazon to ship it to me, but it took Amazon's cost, taking about three dollars and fifty cents, to take three dollars, so it added 50 cents to my pocket and raised my dollar price, so I added a dollar fifty of direct profits to my pocket and another very important principle is that if you want to make more money, you can decrease your cost, like Troy did, or you can increase your price, which Troy also did, and that It's really easy.

In some ways, and oftentimes another great principle, people are not always as price sensitive as you might think. On Amazon, if it's a dollar more or a dollar less, a lot of times they'll just buy what they want and what looks good. It doesn't make a huge difference, so I would recommend always trying to be the best and most expensive product within reason instead of trying to be the cheapest and, you know, trying to just be the cheapest and worst product out there. it is not. a long-term strategy, so let's move on to month number three, how much revenue, how much sales, month three was actually down a little bit, which I'm not exactly sure why I think it might have had some issues with revenue as well.

I did, when I did my first shipment, I did three packs and then I also liked a bulk 60 pack that wasn't selling at all so that was a big deal so what I had to do was create a delete. I ordered all of those and then I bought my own packaging and my own SKU numbers from fn to put on the packaging and then I finally shipped them back to Amazon, which was a couple of unexpected costs that, you know, I had to cover worth 100. bags and then print the labels and then 50 to 100 more to send them back to Amazon, so after the cost of the product, the Amazon FBA fees, all those different things, you have a total profit about 200, I think so, okay, so at this point, how?

How do you feel about Amazon? Do you feel it is a good opportunity or do you still have doubts? Yes, I feel good about it to the extent that I am profitable after the third month, which is what I was excited about. money there and I knew that I could keep going and that if I started doing things right because I knew I was making mistake after mistake and I knew that eventually I would simplify things and reduce costs, and if I could get it up to five hundred dollars or a thousand dollars as I would been, I would have been very happy because my goal is to pay the rent, basically, it's like making about a thousand dollars from that. but let's go to month number four, where you made about eighteen hundred dollars in revenue and sold about 300 units, so it was getting back on track.
I also put colors in my repertoire now because I took those mix packets of 60 and now I sent them back in three packets with different colors, I think that helped me recover, yeah, so I had my best month ever, um again I got about 300 ish um, so I thought, well, I'm growing a little bit here month by month. but now comes the really big mistake that cost you sixteen hundred dollars and make sure you smash that like button because this is Troy he's bringing the value here like he made 600 1600 worth of mistakes so you can learn from him smash that button I like it, but come on. let's talk about the mistake and let's talk about month number five, yeah, so month number five is when everything changed for me, so I was doing about 10 or 10 units a day, which is about 600 profit, but then the 300 ppc which I had making 300, so I was left around 300.
So on June 14th I woke up one morning and all my inventory was gone, a very good thing, it's usually true, I saw like ten twelve thousand dollars in my number from Amazon and I thought, wow, this is who I am. I'll be out, but who cares, I just made 12,000 in income, yeah, but then I realized I didn't have anything like my profit center or where the transfer ended, like I had a bunch of stuff in promotions and rebates, so it was like what promotional rebate do I get? About a week before, a customer contacted me and said, Hey, I didn't receive my product.
Amazon delivered it to the wrong address, so I thought, "Okay, I know where that is." here's a free coupon for uh for the code. Also I don't think you can give away a free coupe like 100 free yeah I don't think you can so I

tried

to do it at 99 so I made a code 99 free. That's what I customized it for, I didn't know there was a difference between promotions and coupons and the way it works is if you create a custom coupon it ships to everyone without a custom promo it ships to everyone no matter what, so everyone had access to my grips so people were buying hundreds of grips at a time which i have since seen on ebay people reselling my grades oh that hurts yes but anyway i contacted Amazon immediately, luckily I woke up and Like it had only been an hour since that happened so I called eBay and canceled all the orders I could but some of them had already been processed so around 250 had already been processed. last, which cost me seven dollars per check. about sixteen hundred dollars, which is just what Amazon took because I had to pay the full seven dollars plus the fifty dollars it cost me to make the grip, so it was like an error of eight dollars and fifty cents on the dollar 250 or for the 250. units I lost, so in the fifth month you sold about four thousand dollars in sold revenue, you sold again about 400 units or so and then after your product cost Amazon FBA fees, all other fees, what was your net profit?
Yes, then I would. I have a net profit of about a thousand dollars, but because of that mistake I ended up losing about 600 that month, but this is where things start to get really interesting, many times what I found in my life and you will see it in a Second , sometimes the worst things that happen end up leading to some of the best things in your business and in life, so let's go to month six and this is where things start to change a little. In the sixth month, how much revenue, how many units did you generate? you sell well, so since I had that big mess that I was doing about 10 units a day, I started doing about 15 units a day, 20 units a day, suddenly I was doing 3, 30 units a day and I was crushing and I was reducing the cost of my PPC dollar per day so that I liked it since I didn't need to spend as much because I was doing very well and now I'm doing about a thousand units a month since then, so once five six seven. now it's been a thousand units and if I'm making two dollars, you know, that's about two thousand dollars a month that I'm making, so that's enough in Santa Monica, which is where I live, where he lives in an incredibly amazing city where the Rent is extremely expensive enough to pay rent in what I assume is probably one of your dream places.
There is no other place I would rather live. That to me is the power of Amazon and also the power of thinking long term, but before we get into Troy's most important lesson, he comments. below about a mistake you made that ended up leading to something really amazing and let's transition if you could go back in time if you could tell your former self before you started selling on Amazon one thing what it would be and why yes so many So many things, but I think the most important thing would be to have someone to talk to so you don't have to make these mistakes, like I had two older brothers and it was so nice to learn from all their mistakes.
I don't have to make those mistakes as a kid so when I was doing this I just watched YouTube videos and then I went ahead and did it which was a great learning experience yeah it taught me a lot but it would have been nice to be able to talk with the. Someone about shipping, whether I want to do it in c or buy a plane and just get my inventory and start selling, so those would be some things like I didn't know how to create a campaign or what images would be right. or like I know some good keywords, but also because I'm competing against Wilson in the lead, but can I use those keywords in my listing?
No, I don't know, it would have been nice to have them. Someone to talk to about it, who has been there and done that, and this is one of the most important principles. Don't try to do it alone. The most success I've had is when I surround myself with other people at my level. and when I've been able to have people in front of me to ask questions and if you want my free help you can watch this video right here learn how to take my free course and get step by step instructions on how to launch your own exciting products so do click on that video that we will see in the next video and thanks for watching
