We're continuing this and just to remind you of where we've been and today I've titled today's lesson and message enthusiasm for personal holiness and I know that's an old-fashioned word. By the way, I think it's great, you write this as a truth that we are going to see and you simply say this through the indwelling Holy Spirit, every true believer is obligated to pursue holiness. I remember every time we were there there were all these kids who were just everywhere, you know. five six years up to about 17 somewhere there would have some older ones there, but um and we had this time where the university students who were with us because we took a group from the University I was working where I was working they were They gathered them into circular groups and they were trying to talk about how good God is to us and there was a kid that lived there in East St.

Louis that was sitting there and he had on one of these coats, these jackets and it was really one of those cool jackets that has like one of the NFL or NBA teams or something like that. I mean, it's a really nice jacket and, like this college student told us later while I was sitting there with him and he was talking about how good God has been and he just looked at this guy and said, for example, man, look how good has been God to you, you know someone got you this jacket and says, man, I stole this jacket that was East St.

Louis and, but this. He says do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for society has justice with iniquity or fellowship with light. Darkness what agreement Christ has with Belial or what portion a believer shares with an unbeliever what agreement the temple of God has with idols now let me begin and say this, this may be one of the most misunderstood passages in the New Testament um how Many times I have heard people use this in reference to a saved person should never marry a lost person or use this when you know that a saved person should never do business with lost people, that kind of thing is not what Paul is talking about.

Now that may be wisdom, but that's not what Paul is talking about here. Paul is dealing with the lost people that are in the church, I mean, he had dealt with it even before Jesus dealt, he says, you can't escape, you know? We are in the world we simply do not need to be of the world. In fact, how do we share with the world the truth of God's goodness and the good news of the Gospel without being close to them? You can't do it any other way. and in the first century, the early church is there, they meet if they say they can't be around lost people, well, they would have starved because they couldn't have gone to the market in each area. of the businesses that they dealt with, they couldn't be around any of them because they were fine, so that's not what you're talking about here now again, let me go over as we go through this, this is what I told you last time.

It cannot be in a close relationship with and just as we are believers and and Jesus calls us the light of the world the light of his kingdom dwells within us what happens is not that because we have his light we can still continue in the Works of Darkness we can that the Holy Spirit indwelling us will expose those areas, literally turn on the oh, he's going to turn on the light switch Colossians chapter 1 verse 13 has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son and then in Ephesians chapter 5 verse 11 he says don't engage in the unfruitful works of darkness, but expose them and I don't think he's necessarily saying expose them, you know automatically in other people's lives, well let me show you that right there sin in your life you can do that.

I guess if you feel the Holy Spirit leading me, but I tell you what I found is that's what he does to me because I spend time in the word of God, the light of the spirit of God, he just goes and shows me Aries and David says. I can say I'm not saying you know you're running with you know I love the Jesus sticker on your shirt or anything like that, but it's the way you live your life that they know there's something different. And yet, when you look at the life of a believer there is an extraordinary reality that distinguishes it from that of unbelievers. That makes sense? That makes sense?

They are chasing money without worrying about the things of God that would be an idol in their hearts. You know they're not pulling away like that. I do not say again that it is not perfection without sin. It just means that the holy spirit in them is going to say hey, that's wrong, that's not right, you know, let's switch to that, okay.

The second thing when we start to look at this is, uh, not only differentiate yourself, but the second is to see yourself as the temple of God in the pursuit of holiness you must be very careful with the people who profess to be believers with whom you you go now I know we can even say well, hey, you know, so let me back up and say this in church. They don't even know what they are doing, they will think they are believers and yet they are living in a way that is contrary to the pursuit of holiness and this is a danger, but now he says, let's go ahead and see ourselves as the temple. of God so this is what it says in the last part of verse 16. 3 18 He says this because we are the Temple of the Living God as God said I will make my dwelling among them and I will walk among them and I will be their God and they will be my people , therefore, come out from among them and be separate from them, says the Lord, and do not touch anything unclean, then I will receive you and will be a father to you and you will be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty now.

We know that the Bible tells us that we are the temple of God in fact before in First Corinthians he said this in chapter 6 verse 19 and 20 it says or you do not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you whom you have from God you are not yours because you were bought with a price so glorify God with your body now this is what I found with many people in the church we know those things intellectually but are we practicing those things daily? Are we walking in that life? You know, I've said it this way in America and it just breaks.

I mean, I can feel the anger every time I say it from people, it's that when you gave your life to Christ, you don't do it. You no longer have a vote you lost your right to vote I'm not talking about voting for an election I'm telling you that you gave your life to Christ you belong to him you don't have the option to say yes but I want to do this I've decided I know that's what you can want let me live this holy life but you know what I feel like I was born a certain way and that's why I should be able to live that's the LIE see what?

I'm saying, do you think this mentality is pervasive in the church in America? You better believe it. I'm telling you it's destroying the church in America. This lie says that I can live however I want. In the same way it is to see oneself as a temple of the Holy Spirit as a temple of God.
