Roland FA 06 & Mpc X : Tracking and Sequencing Sounds into Logic Pro X 10 5

Mar 23, 2024
Alright, the other day I made a video using my mpcx and my new

roland

fa06 the black edition and I pretty much made my first beat and it turned out fine, but some of you wanted to know how I routed the audio inside. from

logic

pro and guess what, I didn't even use midi, you guys know what it is, like the real midi stuff with the cables, before you start make sure you like subscribe, comment and turn on those post notifications. YouTube hasn't been notifying them but still turn them on anyway in case they do notify you and if you like this video make sure to press thumbs up and if you don't like this video at the end of the video just press that.

Thumbs up, I don't really care, so you guys want to know how to route audio from the mpcx and rolling fa06 inside your daw. Now there are actually two ways to do it. I used to do it with the first method, which is waiting. Now I used to do it this method a long time ago, before, like people used computers and dolls and all that kind of stuff to make their beats. I used to use these here for some of you kids these are real midi cables yeah. Yeah midi is a real thing so I used to use these and now I use a totally different method and I'm going to show you how to do it because midi is great but sometimes it still has its problems and I just don't do it.

More Interesting Facts About,

roland fa 06 mpc x tracking and sequencing sounds into logic pro x 10 5...

I don't have time to deal with that, so I'll show you how to insert audio using the click. Some of you already knew this method, some didn't, but it works on all wrists and works very well. so let me show you right now, everyone can see me. The first thing is to show you what's going on behind here so you know how I'm routing my audio and In fact, I'm going to do a full setup video on how I set up my rolling fa06 with my mpcx and how it works, but I'll show you this right now.

As you can see, these cables here are my quarter inch cables and these are coming from the outputs of the fa06 down here, so the outputs actually go to the input inside the mpcx and as you can see here , this black cable is actually the USB that comes from the epic fa06 inside the mpc x. this is what controls the mini even though we have midi ports here now these mini ports are still important just in case you have an older keyboard that doesn't support USB connection so they are still very important and you know. I still have some old equipment too, but we're not worried about that right now, so now that we've done that, let's go ahead and get this ready so we can transfer all the audio to our dad first thing.

What we are going to have to do in any situation when we are dealing with keyboards is to turn off the local control, if you don't do that, you will have like a double sound coming back and we all know that that double sound has a lot of phase problems and things like that, no. we want none of that now, if we're doing some live keyboard sets on stage, we want to turn on the control, but whenever we're dealing with any type of midi information or we're dealing with any type of

sequencing

, we want to turn off the local control, The next thing we'll need to do is use input monitoring on the mpcx, what we want to do from there is go to the audio settings and make sure it's on, so the npc will allow audio into the mpcx.
Now, with that activated, we have to do one thing that is very important if we are going to route audio within our daw without using midi and that is activate it. the metronome clicks even when recording and playing. This is the most important thing we have to activate. The metronome clicks on record and play, so every time we press play or press record we'll hear these four clicks right here, that's very important. Now that we have that set up, we can go ahead and route the audio within our Daw, no matter what we use Pro Tools Logic Cubase Studio One, whatever we want to use, we can use the same method, now what we need to do. is to make sure that we have our outputs ready to go into our inputs within our audio interface and my interface is pretty simple.
I have an Apollo Twin and it only has two inputs, so I can write it through a stereo input and then from once I do that, I can go ahead and press play, do all my clicks for each track and then just cut and paste, okay now I have

logic

pro The way I do this will be the same way I record vocals instead of pressing record on each track. I prefer to just record everything on this track and then I can just cut it out and just drag it down. If you guys really do voices you shouldn't know how to do it now, maybe I can make a video about it later if you don't know.
I don't know that method, but this is the method I use when I follow my beats, so my audio goes in one and two because I have a universal audio twin, it only has two inputs and I have my input activated here now. I don't have any additional processing or anything, so everything is going to come in very dry now, before we route anything, we need to make sure that in the mpc we have the loop turned off and we have it on solo so we can solo. each part of each track so that other parts are not played when we play only the individual tracks so we have to turn off looping and we have to solo each track so we can play each track individually now if maybe you have an interface with multiple inputs, we can actually route some things to each different input on your device and then that way we can go ahead and record multiple parts at once, but on mine we only have two inputs so I'm just going to do a stereo , it really doesn't take that long to do it, it really does it, so I have everything ready, I have the loop off and I have the track soloed, so let's go ahead and record all our parts and it's going to seem a little confusing at first, but once you see me do it, you'll understand that this method might be a little better than recording it via midi.
Okay, now that we've done the piano part, let's move on. go ahead and add the drum parts and as you can see it's still recording because we're going to cut everything for the clicks and as you can see you can see the clicks right here so that's what we're going to do. Okay, I've done that, let's move on to the next track now, as you can see, I'm going to do everything for the rest of the track, so I'm going to go ahead and speed this up and then I'm going to show Guys how to cut all the samples that we just recorded.
Well, we did everything. We've got all the

sounds

here routed here and as you can see, they look a little bit small, but let me go ahead and make them a little bit bigger. there we go, there we go, now we can see everything and let's go ahead and do this real quick, let's go ahead and make all these tracks a little bit bigger so you can see it, there we go, now we can see all of our tracks and we've got everything routed here, we have our piano, which is our first sound, and then we have everything else, so what we're going to do now is take this, drag it down and then we're going to take this we're going to cut we're going to drag this down we're going to take this we're going to cut we're going to drag this down we're going to take this cut drag that down and We're going to do this for all the tracks so let's go ahead and speed up so before we make the cut here we want to make sure that we go and make this to fit ratios to absolute value if not Don't do that, it might not line up with the principle, so we always want to go to fit regions to absolute value, so what I'm going to do now is highlight this part here and I'll press the right arrow key. and then bam it takes me to the first transit so all I have to do is press delete from there and then I can swipe this and I'll do this for all the other tracks too okay there we go we swipe them all Finish them it took me maybe less than a minute to do all of that and I think I have seven tracks on this beat, so now I have to go ahead and start cutting because we want to make sure we have everything lined up that we need to do.
I'm sure we have the tempo set correctly, so the tempo of this beat was 130, so let me go ahead and set that up and as you can see, all the clicks line up with the grid now, so what we can do It's once all our clicks line up. to the grid I can go ahead and now I can take it from this point from the beginning of all the

sounds

and just delete them, take all of these and bring them to the beginning and there we go, we have an eight measure loop and now I can take this and then I can repeat it a few times and now I can sequence the whole beat, so let's go ahead and take this from the beginning here and play this and then from there I can go ahead and I can do my edits and do everything I need to do based on the beat, so Let's say for example I want to remove this or I want to remove this particular sound and the intro.
I can go ahead and do that and maybe take the kick the bass and probably take it out right there and then do it for the first part right before the hook comes back in, if that's the hook and I can go ahead and sequence this whole track the way I want to sequence it. So now when I do it, I can play it. There is. I hope you learned something from this. I hope you can see how to route audio from your mpcx or whatever synth you have inside your daw without using any midi. and as you can see it didn't take that long, even with larger sessions it only takes me about five minutes or less if I do it with eight bar loops or 16 bar loops if the loops are a little longer of course.
It will take longer, but if you have more entries, it will also save you a lot of time, but I only had two entries, but as you can see, it didn't take me that long to do it. I think maybe it took me like two. minutes to do it, but I'm going to go ahead and play this actual beat at the end of the video. I'm going to go ahead and mix it up a little bit and I hope you learned something from me and I hope you learned something from me. I enjoyed it and like I always say, peace out and check out the beat at the end of the video right now.
