I had three slider turtles here and even fewer places to hide, so it was going to be a pretty tough survival situation for those fish. Since then I've added a couple more decorations and actually taken them off my turtles and Now we're in a turtle tub somewhere else so now it's just Harold here and I think she's ready to have some fish companions , so as I explained in my last video, turtles are quite aggressive in tanks and basically think of any fish or even like rocks. They are food and they will taste them and of course this depends on your turtle's overall temperament.

You can have turtles that are very aggressive and will simply chase a fish until they are out of breath, catch their breath, and continue chasing this fish. until they get their snack, you can also have a turtle that just sits and waits for the fish to pass by its face and maybe take a lazy bite, but those will be turtles that are much easier to house fish with. Another great strategy for introducing fish is to introduce them when your turtle is very young and then your turtle will get a little more accustomed to the fish around as your turtle gets older.

Now I don't really have that luxury, but I think the fish options we have today will be excellent, so let's go to our first option. Our first choice of fish will be the convict cichlid. Convict

amazing is they have all kinds of different colors, different shapes, different sizes, many of the breeds can be quite aggressive and territorial which is always a lot of fun to watch and many of the breeds are also great for take care of their young and the pair that is found will really protect them. their breeding with their life so they can become quite aggressive this way now I am specifically putting the convict cichlid in this tank.

What is amazing about convict cichlids is that they are aggressive, this trait makes them very aware, very agile and ready to defend their territory which is excellent for a killer hunter like Harold, who will chase them at least for a while, so hopefully they will realize that and keep their distance. Another really important trait is that they are very resistant fish and they are easy to care for, what this means is that they can withstand degradation and water quality for short periods of time due to this resistance, as you know or will know, they produce a lot of waste. , so the water quality can drop dramatically and you want a fish that will be able to survive drops like this temporarily and the comical cichlid are great for this, so another thing that's really cool about complex cyclists, but also something I have to be careful of is that they are extremely competent at reproduction and it takes very little to make them like yes, let's make a brood and protect this brood with our lives, which means they will be super territorial and will chase, fight and do whatever with their own species, with other species, even with turtles, so I need to maintain a close relationship.

Keep an eye out for breeding pairs occurring and I don't want them to stress Harold so much to the point that Harold becomes unhealthy and gets stuck in a little corner of the tank because they are so territorial we are going to keep track of that and make sure Don't let that be a problem, otherwise these fish will have to find a new home, so convict cichlids will declare their territory. They love to dig in the sand, but they also like cave-like structures and places to hide, so I have driftwood here and I have this turtle-proof decoration, it's turtle-proof because Harold can't move this, it's stuck like this and I have a video showing how I made a turtle-proof decoration to prove it, but I'm hoping that these vases here will create great caves for our cichlid friends, so our second contender and possible roommate for Harold will be the hypostmus

Buckos are omnivores, all kinds of things like plants, crustaceans, fish, so they are not very picky eaters and will even eat algae, so one thing people get plecos for is to clean algae out of their tank. because the algae can start to build up and look terrible on the tank glass, but you should also know that these guys will generate a lot of waste, so even though they are cleaning the algae out of the tank, they will also poop a lot and it could affect the nitrogen cycle, so make sure you have plenty of filtration. I have a tortoise, so I'm pretty sure I have enough filtration to handle the waste these plecos produce, but always talking, the

are eager, the plecos are eager, and Harold is eager to see what it's like to live together, let's get this done. guys in the tank, I'm going to acclimate them to the water, add them all at the same time, hopefully, to create a little bit of chaos for Harold, so he might have a hard time knowing where to go and what. to eat and hopefully you get tired enough so that these fish can settle into their new home, so without further ado, let's get to it, let the fish in the tank live in the first round, so okay, I told them there will be an advantage.

On top of this and my addition is going to be 10, oh so I know it's leaving you hanging, but here's the added bonus to our little community that we have right now. I'm going to add 10 baby ramshorn snails, now these are from an aquarium at work that has an overpopulation of little snails, so I'm doing a little cleaning and I'm going to move them from that house to this house, which luckily for a fish tank, the snails do a great job cleaning, however, unfortunately for the snails, our herald tortoise. Our convict cichlids and our plecos would love a nice tasty baby snail snack so I'm going to throw them in the tank hope they do well who knows let's do it oh ok the coast is clear so far everyone is accounted for.

I'm going to be honest, guys, we lost. one of the sucker fish and it was that first day that I really saw what happened.

It was a little heartbreaking because Harold appeared with his jaws behind the sucker. The sucker fish didn't even flinch at this big threat and Harold got a big bite. and it's over, but I have a sucker fish that is doing great. He learned right away to stay away from that turtle, so he's been sneaking around driftwood a lot and sucking on places with great cover, so in this back corner you can see here. I've got a lot of driftwood, I've got a big sponge filter and I've got some plants, this is where all the fish congregate when Harold gets a little feisty because there's a lot of cover here and it's been a great place to de-stress and just hide, so which worked well, yes, those vases worked very well, they will all grow a little more, especially the pleco, of course, they will all get a little more comfortable with each other over time and will probably win.

I don't have to hide as much, okay, this is great, we have four cichlids, they are guarding their territories and they are doing very well in this tank, they are using all those natural instincts, they are surviving that constant attack. because they are used to it in their natural environment, unfortunately we lost, we won the sucker, wake up the sucker, but on a positive note, the other sucker fish realized that I had to stay away from that killer red-eared beak and He has done very well. in the tank so I hope when he grows up he becomes a big sucker in the spirit of games convict cichlids and sucker fish excellent well done
