Hermitcraft 9: The Great GeminiTay 2022 Q&A

Mar 14, 2024
Come on, come on, you know you want what I mean, if you were meant to die then it worked, oh I was meant to die, stats, mobs, Ally, Ally killed you once, I did it, Jim, an ally killed me, A passive killed me. mom, bye, see you Jim, welcome everyone to

hermitcraft

, today I have a special episode for you all, this is my final video of

2022

and so I have decided that I would like to answer some of your questions. It's going to be a podcasty talking type episode while we do a couple of things on the base and while I show you some of the things I've done throughout the year, by the way, there will be a lot of talking, if you don't like a lot of talking, this is not It's for you, but I recommend putting this on the back burner, doing some tasks, whatever you need to do, let's have a little chat now.
hermitcraft 9 the great geminitay 2022 q a
I think one of the best The first thing we could do around this base is definitely some more custom treats, particularly in this area around the balcony now that the balcony is getting a lot more use, so let's gather these leaves and logs for some custom trees and let's start with our first question. which is related to construction, the first question I am going to answer is quite common. This question comes from Sam on YouTube, who says: How can you stay motivated and get help building these massive structures, yours and all the other hermits' megabases? It always amazes me and I would love to know how you managed to place blocks to make an amazing construction.

More Interesting Facts About,

hermitcraft 9 the great geminitay 2022 q a...

It's a very good question and to be honest, it's one I wondered when I was a Hermit fan and not really.

hermitcraft

I think the most honest answer for me personally is that if I wasn't actually making YouTube videos I probably wouldn't make so many large megastructures when I'm left alone to build worlds off camera. I prefer to build structures that are smaller but joined together into something that is large, like a bunch of little houses in a village, a bunch of small rooms in an underground cave, or a bunch of separate floating islands rather than one giant structure.
hermitcraft 9 the great geminitay 2022 q a
I think on multiplayer servers these giant structures are much more useful because you can link them with many other people, tell interesting stories to the viewer and get really interesting miniatures, so I think my motivation often comes from knowing that I love the other person. Hermits so I can visit my baby and really like what they see. I also want my viewers to see my base or visit it in the world downloads and like what they see and I want the people who watch these videos to be entertained so I guess that's all to say you're watching this video you're my motivation, thanks, now let's get the rest of these trees down, we've cut down some trees, we should probably start building some and I'm thinking this side here could really use some balance.
hermitcraft 9 the great geminitay 2022 q a
Off that side, maybe we can replace this couple of trees here with some custom ones. However, first we will have to remove a small piece of this forest from here and while I do that, I will answer the next question that comes from saranya and I am very sorry if I say that any of your names are not doing this. I'm doing the best I can. I promise, correct me in the comments. This question asks: How did you know what aesthetic you are building? I love it. doing cabin core builds primarily with timber, deep slate and andesite but I'm also interested in other styles, how can I explore and discover what my aesthetic is?
How I feel about me personally as far as my aesthetic goes, I have a kind of aesthetic. fixed on me more than I actually chose one. I feel like I'm known for the Cottage Core stuff simply because I did Cottage Core in my first season of Hermitcraft, that's when many of you watching this would have introduced me. and you never met any of my other styles. I'll post some photos of some builds I did before he created now and you can tell me if my aesthetic is actually Cottage Core or if that's just something I was trying out.
I think the answer here is that it's something I was trying out now, don't get me wrong, I really liked Cottage Core, it was a lot of fun to build, but I was just experimenting. I also think that would be My advice to you, if you want to know other styles, try them, it may be for you, it may not be for you, but you won't know until you try it. I feel like that's the best way to learn something about you for me personally. I would say my normal aesthetic is based on fantasy. I love building dragons.
I enjoy building organically and structures tend to be something I struggle with a bit more, at least normally when I was doing builds in creative mode, I struggled with them in survival mode. Things are a little different and I've branched out quite a bit, although people in my comments tend to tell me that I just build the same thing over and over again. I get it, because well, if you think about it, we've been working. in this same structure now for a full year, so it hasn't really been a year of much experimentation because survival mode is slow, however there is a group of us that I would personally like to try, for example, I have really been investigating.
Cyberpunk or solar punk type themes. I've been working on more Redstone Farms with my Skyblock series that I have and I feel like doing something in the cyberpunk style would be really cool if it had something like moving farms and stuff, it probably won't be something like that. I'll do that soon, but it can be fun to experiment sometimes and you never know, maybe one day I'll be known for it. Anyway, good luck with your build. I'm going to finish this tree now as it's a little curvy, but I think. it's definitely better than what was there before good tree solid tree next question this question comes from an empty pink can and you're wondering where I get all my inspiration for projects and builds.
I love this question, it's so funny, but to be honest, the answer is pretty boring. I probably get inspiration from everywhere, every movie, every book, every TV show, every place I travel to or see on TV, everything inspired me. However, I'll show you my creative proof of the world so you can get an idea of how I get started. to build these foundations once I have my inspiration. This is my season 9 building test world, you'll probably see some spoilers here, but this is the first thing I built in this world, it's ugly, it was my thoughts on a starter house.
I ended up choosing a tree at that point. I also mocked up this little build that I thought might be a starter home. I still think this is cute, but at the end of the day it was just an idea. I was just experimenting. With a couple of different details that I could do basically when I'm building and looking for inspiration, I think of a theme that I want to build on and I start experimenting with different sizes, different palettes of blocks, anything I can do so that the inspiration doesn't really happen. comes from something that I'm not trying to recreate this time last year, we were finishing season 8 and I wanted to start over the break with what my mega base idea would be, so I did a call with Pearlescent Moon, she and I chatted for a a while about what our ideas were for a base.
These were some of my first models. You'll notice that they look nothing like my mega base, which is probably the best thing about them. very ugly, but in this type of experiments you can see me learning to build again because after building in the hut core for a while, I needed to learn how to make more Grand structures, I eventually moved on from that and created this cute thing. little build here, you'll probably recognize it as part of my current megabase. I didn't actually end up doing the green terracotta, although it looks pretty cool, maybe I should have.
I don't know once I had this structure in place. I thought well, this is a good structure, but I can't call it a megabase. It's a good size, but it's probably more of a mid-sized or smaller build than a megabase, so I thought I'd build a gate, why not the gate? it will look

great

. I could put a door anywhere and now you'll probably recognize this building as the entrance to my actual base and then as you can also see I built this little component in the back and separated this little tower so I could stick it in other places and now we have four solid components that I could work with in a mega base, so I took that section from there, lifted it up and surrounded it with a couple more things that I'll see and this is much closer to what my mega base looks like and also you can see last season's Mega base on the back anyway, that's my creative process, kind of like hello hello.
I found your portal and noticed all the Prismarine around it, that's obviously your thing this season, yeah yeah I'm doing Prismarine and there's a little bit of amethyst here and like all the Cobble I'm trying to tie it in with my dwarf neighbor, ah, it makes sense, it makes sense, oh, the. The castle looks

great

, thank you, this is the back and in typical permit fashion it's a back, I mean it still looks great. I still love shapes, the shape of roofs like that is always so cool, it's always the stuff I struggle with, like roofs, they were my nemesis the whole time in this game, thank you, thank you, thank you, oh, you wanted to go see my farm, oh there it is, oh oh look, see this in person like in the videos, it always looks spectacular, but I love the wall and everything you've done with it, yeah, I really like it like this area.
I feel like it worked now that it's out here. It's been missing a bit since the king stole it, but I created some recently. So you can take it from there or you can create it yourself if you want it perfect. I guess while we're here at the farm I should answer a couple more questions. The first comes from Andrew Bloom, who says: Did you fit into the group so easily? how it seemed or was difficult for you and take some time before you really feel like a hermit. This is a great question and I feel like I've been asked it many times.
I felt like I integrated into the group quite smoothly. I mean, there are a lot of questions. different people and a lot of different dynamics and existing friendships, but overall everyone is super professional and welcoming. I feel like I get along well and create content pretty easily with the vast majority of the group. I think the most challenging part of this sometimes is simply time. zones the second part of this question, since you also asked me, did it take time before I felt like a hermit? I think the answer is yes, sometimes I still don't feel like I'm a hermit.
I feel like I've done all these projects like, for example, this Prismarine Farm here as a way to prove that I could do it or prove that I could keep up with the Hermits, but the Hermits added Gemini Tay to the Hermitcraft server to be Gemini Tay. true, I don't need to keep up with anyone else or try to be anyone else and I think the biggest pressure comes from the audience; Unfortunately, there is this subset of the audience that constantly wants him to be like every other hermit. basically a carbon copy of them, there will probably even be comments on this video about how it's only episode 20 and how dare I be alone on episode 20 when other people are on episode 40.
I think one of my goals for the next season would be to stop allowing that criticism to even enter my brain because I don't think it's helpful or productive for me to try to be just a carbon copy of another hermit. I want to be Gemini Tay and I want to play the game as Gemini Taywood. I feel like I've lost a little bit of myself this year and that's one of the things I regret. I got a lot of criticism and I changed the way I make videos or the way I build or the way I play.
Based on what people told me, they would rather see me be, but I want to go back to being what I am and even when I am what I am. Gemini Day, I will continue to be a hermit now I want to organize. a couple of things we can do a little more construction, I think it will do for the prismarine and quartz and then we need some wood. I think I'd like to work on this little structure here. I've been a little careless. I'm also not sure what's up with this giant black Beacon push. What are you doing?
The next question comes from Call Me Envy and says Hi Jim, do you love being on two servers or are you struggling? This is another. question I definitely get a lot and I understand that I like servers and I guess that's considered weird. The honest answer is no. I don't really have a problem with that. This question is one of the most important ones I get and people always ask. I'm really surprised that it's on two smps, but I really can't think of any Hermit that isn't on two projects, not necessarily two smps, but just two projects that you know as impulse and impulses podcast or impulse and impulse streams or iskal and Vault.
Hunters or Mumbo and his photography or Gran and the Third Life series or Corrales and that incredible keyboard and mouse company he has, which by the way isreally awesome, or you have Exuma and the snapshot videos, I don't know, just everyone The Hermit I can think of also has an awesome side project about his past and while Empires isn't really a side project, it's an awesome series with my friends, it's still not too difficult to keep up with Hermitcraft and Empires at the end of The day they are just Minecraft servers, I'm just playing Minecraft, it's not too difficult.
I must admit, having said that, I think in 2023 I would like to have more solo projects instead of more smps, so is that correct? oh no that's not right ohTalking and building is hard so I would like to do more things like my Skyblock series or maybe 100 days videos or other trendy building videos that I can participate in instead of all the smps of the that we talked to everyone before. the building styles I feel like I could experiment a lot more if it also had single player content. I'd like to go back to short little building tutorials or random single player series that transform villages and do more miniseries. with friends on modded stuff like that, while I personally don't have a hard time keeping up with Series 2, I feel like my channel would do a little better if it had a little less content, if that makes sense.
I want viewers to be able to follow me. I stick with what I'm doing and if I start publishing a third or fourth series it becomes too much, so I want to get back to it somehow, although I haven't worked out the logistics of exactly what I'm doing. I'll do with that, but we'll have to wait and see when the new year comes, the boost of love, but this Beacon speed is a lot to build, I don't know how he does it doing his account, which looks much better. but we haven't answered many questions yet, so maybe it's time for a quick round and while we're at it I need some Sandstone.
The first question is if they call me Tay. Personally I prefer to be called gem, but I know some people. at MCC they don't know me and don't understand that, so I would never get mad at them for calling me tay, but I prefer Jeff. Next question is the video you are most proud of and why I am most proud of my 100 days. Not only is the skyblock video the most viewed video on my channel, but I recorded it in its entirety late at night after working shifts at the hospital and writing exams at school during covid, it was all, it was a lot of work, term.
I did so well, oh my gosh, that video was so hard to make and it really reminds me of how I overcame a lot of the challenges of being in college and being a full-time YouTuber at the same time and working at the hospital during a pandemic. and all the things that we all went through in 2018. I feel like that video is something that I will always be very proud of because of how it was made. In fact, there's a point in that video where it gets really slow and that's because I was recording in the Nether on my laptop, literally in bed, at like 2am. m., so yeah, it's laggy and that's not ideal for a video you're posting to a million subchannels, but it just reminds me where I was recording it. and so I can't get mad about it, yeah the back of the build is starting to look a lot better now, what are your favorite non-Minecraft games?
What are some games you would like to try? My current favorite non-Minecraft games. Minecraft games are team fighting tactics Stardew Valley Animal Crossing Pokémon and valorant, that's a big variety, but that's what I've been playing lately. Fox Games asks if you have merch, if not why do I have merch, it sucks and I want Talking a lot about new products, I have a makeshift Empire plush coming out and also something for Hermitcraft coming out in the new year. I don't know exactly when you'll be able to see it, but there are two things similar to current products. coming out and as far as actual clothing options, I want to do more of that, it's just been hard to find a clothing brand that works with influencers that I really like.
I think that will be another of my goals for 2023: to achieve something really good. quality merchandise going I'll definitely start thinking about that thanks for the question oh should we sleep pig Wait why doesn't anyone sleep flying mod flying bird oh that was painful very pointy that's my chandelier it's lovely and not suitable for children too many friendly south edges, yes i need your help in this kind of season, i need a disk, do you have a spare desk? I need your disk. Damn, maybe, um, surely Jim, you would help me in my Christmas season, no need for me to not want to help you. it's just that I don't have many things oh my everything is also looking for things it's like I follow you and check them all as you go it's good if I don't find one then Jimmy won't I'll be getting his Christmas present.
You know, we could get a skeleton. Oh, here's which one you can keep one of these. These are a little weird. I'll get them back. I don't know what happens if you make a custom album. Does it change? the album completely oh yeah, don't do that to these, I'll do it to the other side no, I like the other side, that's what we want to keep. No, i do not do it. Why is it just your chest system? it looks very organized it looks like it started to get organized anyway don't start with me get out of here you come with my Megan sorry I mean have you seen my base I don't have I don't have a second Have you seen my storage system in Empires?
No, it's much worse. We could try to put together a record. It should be pretty easy. I'm down. I'm down. Okay, we have to try to get that skeleton to hit that creeper. Explodes. bring the creeper I'll bring the skeleton skeleton I'll track myself okay we just have to um okay I've got everything okay you need the skeleton to be okay okay no no no no no no no no okay um not now I don't have a creeper oh there's two vines and three skeletons This is going to be very difficult, not at all, very easy because there are so many of them.
Yeah, I like your way of thinking, okay, okay, it's coming for you, everyone's coming for you. no, no, oh my god, gem, I'm softening them, no, that's clever, okay, that one has a great bow, yes, this hurts, I'm not going to lie to you, they lined up very well, they line up very well, nice, that works, yeah, I mean, I'm I'm going to say it was mostly you, as you can see by all the arrows on you, but you took one for the team for the Christmas spirit, you're welcome. I think now that I've figured out that kind of structure, maybe I'll finally do it. working on part of the floor I'll probably just put it all on this layer to start.
I can't wait until we finally have time to work on this interior. It's going to be very satisfying to talk about the moment when we have our next question. Hufflepaz asks how you manage your time this year from video editing and your IRL stuff, what was your priority, that's a really lovely question, thanks for asking, so I've had a really strange year this year, if you remember one of my first series , my 1.18 series, which by the way, some of you asked about I think I'm going to take that for granted. I'm not sure. I think I think it was done anyway.
In that Series last year I talked about my goals for

2022

and in it I mentioned no. I don't have any real growth goals for the channel, so I didn't want to focus on jumping on any trends, doing any amount of live streaming, or doing anything really career-based. I wanted to keep what I have and be grateful for it. I wanted to spend more time with friends and family and now that I finished university I just wanted to spend my time seeing some of the world because when I was in university I didn't really have time, so in 2022 I went to two internationals.
One of the trips was having the incredible privilege of taking my parents on their travel list to London and the other was going to Seattle to see my beautiful friend Flip and his wife get married. It was fun. I also moved, bought a puppy and visited my house to see him. my grandparents a lot, so you could say my priorities weren't really in the realm of editing and creating videos, but I planned it that way in terms of time management on a real work day. I recently changed my workflow so I record everything on my PC and send it to my laptop so I can edit wherever I am, so if I want to visit my parents I can do that and I can edit and continue working at home from my computer portable, that setup allows me to be a lot more mobile and will help a lot during Christmas probably helped with this video you're watching right now Did it help?
Did you help edit a gem? The actual length of each video varies greatly from video to video if you are watching it. The clips with a lot of my friends probably took a lot less time than if you were watching a clip from this compilation because it's time consuming and really boring for you guys. We have these statistics so you can see how. a lot of time I have in the game 9.79 days okay let's do some math so that's about 235 hours and that amount of hours divided by 20 episodes is about 11 or 12 hours we'll probably take a little bit of AFK time into account, although I haven't done it.
AFK that much and it probably comes to about 8-10 hours per episode in-game, which probably translates to about six hours in editing, although to be honest I don't really follow it, it could be a lot more. I lose track of time when I'm editing and then of course the upload process itself takes time, making a thumbnail, things like that in general, although it's actually not that bad, which you don't see in content creation and The one that takes the longest is actually the part where I write. the episode, so before each episode I have to think of an idea, so for example for this episode I spent about two or three hours posting about Q a and then selecting questions q a, writing them down and selecting the order in which I would say The I introduce and then choose video fragments that would go between them to make it more entertaining.
All of that takes a surprisingly long amount of time and I do it for every video. I write what I want to do. I make sure everything is going to be interesting. I pick out what will be the fun parts and what will be the hard parts and make sure the pacing is really good. I don't know if that answered that question. I went off on a tangent, but I hope I answered something by talking about tangents. I have a dog, not just in the hermit, although I have had this puppy for a while, but now I also have a dog in real life and some of you asked questions about me The lovely Winnie Ginger Claus asks me how she has been cared for a Buffy.
It's been really good. I love Winnie. Winnie is my chocolate lab puppy that I just got. I love Winnie. I think the biggest difference in my life with Winnie is that she has given me. I have a very good work-life balance. I have a lot of time outdoors every day. She reminds me that I should take a lot of breaks and so far I can still do my job. At first I would say it was really challenging to work. from home with a small puppy, but she quickly adapted to my schedule and at this point things are pretty normal.
I take more breaks than before, but I think it's pretty healthy to be honest. I really enjoy having her in my life. I've wanted a puppy or a dog for as long as I can remember and she fits me perfectly. I love her. We should really make an automatic sugar cane farm at some point. I feel like that would be very helpful. I feel like I would never have to do it. I would buy Rockets again if I had. I answered too many questions. Is this enough? I'm having a lot of fun though, so I'll quickly shoot a few more and see what this interior looks like from the way I feel.
In the New Year we're going to be able to do some epic things here, like this, which is starting to look really amazing, we're going to have to do something with MacKenzie, although sorry Mackenzie, I think it's enough working on the base now, come on . and do some relaxing mining and hopefully get some diamonds while quickly asking some questions. The first question is what do I call my creator friends in real life? As many of you know, I've met a lot of people from both Empires and Hermitcraft. year and on my two trips to London and Seattle, this answer varies from person to person, if you ever wonder what someone prefers to be called, just ask, don't be afraid for me personally, I prefer to be called gem like me.
I responded before, so even in real life I would walk up to people and shake their hand and say hello. I'm Jen. I think for some people that's probably weird, but for the most part we all call each other by our names online, it's who we are. I used to be called that for sausage, for example, I met him at the airport and I shouted super happy sausage across the airport to get everyone here. I have no shame when I'm in grian and false. I called them smile and false, obviously, although I do have them. friends like Jimmy who prefer to be called Jimmy and not sympathize already play, so yes, as I say, it varies from person to person and you would have to ask each person and for me, I think my answer could potentially change.
InIn the future, I see myself potentially using my name, especially if I ever start vlogging, which brings me to the next question: am I ever going to vlog? To be honest, I would love to do it. I've tried filming Vlogs before and I always feel very conscious about it. I find it very difficult. It's a completely different skill set than using a camera in real life. However, I will tell you that it is something I would like to learn and I would love to be able to vlog, maybe go hiking or do something with Winnie where I can show everyone how amazing Newfoundland is where I live.
I don't know if I'm going to do that anytime soon, although hello, I was choosing. One question goes away, okay, another question I'm seeing a lot that I want to get to is do I have any tips for balancing YouTube and college? If you're only watching from Hermitcraft, you may not know this, but I was in college. For the vast majority of my YouTube career, only this year have I been completely free of that life. Fortunately, since graduating, I did science in the med lab, for anyone wondering, I would be working in the hospital, like taking blood samples or histology. or you know different diagnostic things to help doctors.
I don't plan on doing that, but I'm going to stick with YouTube for as long as possible, but hospital work is a good backup plan for hobbies. I guess I really miss university and sometimes working in the hospital, although even if I was only there as a student it was such a good life experience. I balanced it with YouTube, oh wow, it was very difficult, it was very difficult. I don't even know if I really have that many useful tips for you besides you, you just have to go ahead if you're really passionate about it. YouTube like I was then you will do it, but it is difficult that your university is going to suffer and your channel is going to suffer both at the same time because multitasking at that level is difficult.
I ran out of torches, so I'm going back. to the surface for me personally I went through college and YouTube at the same time out of pure survival basically I had no time for anything else I had no time to make good friends I had no time for relationships I had no time for pets I had I had no time to watch Netflix or Youtube. I would literally go to college all day from eight to four and then quickly eat something, as much as I could and then maybe work for an hour or two on YouTube and then study. for two or three hours in a cafe or whatever with some of my friends from school or maybe alone at home and then I would come back in the evening from 8 p.m. m. or 9 p.m. m. until midnight and went back to working on YouTube.
I uploaded a lot less and my videos were a lot worse in quality but I got through it and I did it and it was hard and I'm glad it's over, you might not want to hear this because I know I certainly didn't do it when I was in college but The best way to go to college and YouTube at the same time is to really study efficiently, like when you were in class when you were in the lab. I want you to study properly if the teacher is talking, don't worry. Daydreaming not like on your phone or whatever, like genuinely writing notes, fixing your cue cards, highlighting things like actually studying, because if you do that, then you won't have to study as much outside of the classroom and This helps now, obviously. , there are some courses that are very difficult and will require a lot of time outside of class, but the more you can reduce that and study everything while you are in the school building. or in that time frame, I better used to carry my cue cards everywhere, like if I was in a parking lot waiting for a recipe, I'd be studying my cue cards, so don't waste your time, it's going to suck, that's me.
Sorry, it's going to suck, but yeah, you just have to save a lot of time if you're in that position right now and you really want to be a YouTuber, but you're in college. I'm so proud of you, it's a really hard thing to do. I'm proud of you for staying in college even though it's hard, and I'm proud of you for pursuing your passion even though you can't dedicate your entire schedule to it. I know that is a challenge and you are doing very well. With that, I think that's enough questions for today. I'm so sorry if I couldn't get through to you, but I'm so grateful for all the questions and for all of you lovely viewers who have been watching, thank you very much.
Thank you very much for this incredible year. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who saw this. They do not even know. In fact, I had a question for all of you. If you watched this video until the end, okay. I want them to do it. Take a second and really think about this question because I'm really curious and I think it will be great to read the answers. I want you to answer this from your perspective as a Minecraft player or as a viewer, whichever that may be. I want to know about this crossover if you watched Empires and Hermitcraft, what style of building did you like more, not if you like elf versus medieval or if you like blue versus orange more, so do you prefer the beautiful giant megastructure that I have behind me? ?
Or did you prefer Empires, where there were a bunch of smaller and medium-sized buildings, all separated and turned into something big? I ask because I think I have a preference and I want to know where my viewers stand on this megastructure versus separate smaller structures let me know what is more entertaining to watch and what is more entertaining for you to do in your own worlds and with that I think I'm done, this has been an incredible year, thank you once again and see you in the next video don't forget to press the subscribe button if you haven't done so yet I would appreciate it see you later bye everyone
