Hey old lady, hey buddy this is my 1990 Corvette zr1, it says gallery furniture on the back and see rockets. When posting my last video I found out that this car was owned by the owner of the gallery furniture, which I expected because it says type furniture on the back, but I didn't really know much about the gallery furniture, turns out they are quite furniture big. store that is known for the owner, nicknamed Mattress Mac, who does really ridiculous commercials in the Houston area for the last two decades and now with gallery furniture players Gallery Furniture Galleries says look ma, no hands, come on, forget it Furniture. tremendous collection of electric reclining gallery furniture, very good, honey, money mattress.

Mac is also well regarded in the Houston area because he has been very generous to people in need, such as during the last flood, he opened his stores and said if anyone needs a place to stay, come sleep at my store. He had street people sleeping on his new mattresses that he was trying to sell just to be a good guy. The owner of a local furniture store known in Texas as Mattress Mac decided he had to help, not all store owners would be happy with evacuees strewn over millions of dollars of merchandise, but then again, not all store owners are well-known Texans. like Mattress Mac.

Now we're joined by a local hero. I remember this guy from when I was a kid here in Houston he is a Houston legend this is the mattress Mac owner of Gallery Furniture did a lot to help so many victims of Hurricane Harvey by opening the doors of his store exactly because he had no other place to where to go and he hasn't stopped helping Since the hurricane, I now own a Mac mattress from Gallery Furnitures, an old 1990 Corvette, so the story I have so far is that he bought this car new and then kept it for a few years and then when the Rockets won in 1994, he wrapped it with the gallery of the Houston Rockets logo in French on the back, back-to-back world champions on the back here and then he had it in some kind of raffle or raffle or something to promote his business and gave this car away and to the guy who He bought it from the original guy who won this car in the mid 90's, as you can see the car hasn't been on the road in 17 years and apparently it was because it suffered some damage from flooding or something that Houston is well known for flooding, obviously. but I had some flood damage about 17 years ago that made the owner, the winner of this car, decide I'm not going to fix it and it's just sat there ever since, they've tried to do some things but you I can see it never drove on the streets and was never re-registered, so this car, which was a supercar in 1990, has been in bad shape for a long time and is still in bad shape right now, but I've been looking at some things. and i found out some things, look at this, how it was that even probably another owner, not me, this is the LT 5 engine, this is what makes this zr1 special, a 32 valve, four cam, aluminum block v8 engine , it's a crazy engine, well it was 30. years ago it's still really cool and very iconic, the problem with mine is that it would overheat in about seven minutes and also blow out tons of black smoke, so what we did was take all of them out. the spark plugs and then we put a little gauge here and each one and We were testing the compression, basically, I was worried that this thing might have a blown head gasket or a crack or something like that where water, oil, water was mixing, something bad.

I figured this probably had it, since you know what would make someone save a supercar. and they didn't fix it for 17 years so we checked everyone, all compression was good. The other problem it also has is that it blows tons of thick black smoke, which isn't good either, so I realized this thing has electric fans and they weren't coming. I found some burned cables. I thought, oh, there's a problem. Reconnect the burned wires. Turn it on and you can hear the fan running so the fan motors just burned out and then that burned the wire so I'm safe with the water.
They got in there, ruined that blown engine, the wire fan never came back on, the exhaust blew out all that black smoke. I hope it's just old gasoline. I have no idea if anyone has tried putting fresh gas in this thing. A while ago, I think a guy tried to start it a couple of years ago, I think, and I hope he tried to put gas in it a couple of years ago, so at least that gas is two years old, it might be seventeen years old. or it could be two year old gas mixed with 17 year old gas, not sure but it produced tons of black smoke.
I hope he's just a bad guy, but what we have to do to make this really manageable is get all of this out. Take the blower motor out and see if we can fix it, so I'll do that today. We'll start taking some things a

part

. You can see we've already started, which will help me accomplish all of this. These are pretty interesting you can see them here this is where the air comes in this is the radiator here and you can't actually see the radio here it's covered by this big cover so the air sucks in there and goes straight through of our radiator.
I think there's an oil cooler in there and I think the air conditioning condenser also I think there's basically three radiators right there, we'll find out. Oh, look at that big old hole like that, let me show you how it all shook. Basically all I had to do was remove this electric fan and this electric fan each of which is only held on by four bolts and a plug seems easy right the problem was I could actually get to those four bolts that I would like to. to get to three of these bolts, but even when I got to the four bolts, the fan was right next to all the front stuff on this engine and I couldn't pull it back to lift it up.
Those without runes, throw them away. so to get it off I had to take all of this off to get all of this off I had to take off all of this and it took me forever let me show you how this stacked up so there were the fans on that little shroud that was right next to our radiator this is it a radiator, the cooling water goes from our engine block to this thing, these fans cool it down and then it's pumped back into our engine block, it helps cool the engine right in front of that is our oil cooler, so which pumps oil into this thing and back to the engine to help cool the engine, right in front of it is our AC condenser, it pumps gas in there to cool it down and help me cool down, seems pretty easy, right, wrong, especially because if you think about it, This is a 30 year old car.
I broke two screws. This is the head of a screw that I had to drill. Here is the rest of the screw head. This took me forever because it was a really weird angle. This is also a nut that was totally stuck and when I turned it it loosened the bolt it was on so I had to drill it out and I couldn't get a grinder, I usually just got a grinder and like cutting these things I couldn't get one the grinder there is too tight so I had to drill this one took forever this bad one it just fell off broke this one took forever I spent 45 minutes I bet I was just trying to get this nut off so I can get that one off Everything has been fixed, but now everything has been solved.
This is a problem with C4 Corvettes, so the garbage they pick up they call them vacuum cleaners because they just suck up all the debris from the road and store it right here, it's like spider eggs. Gross even found a bag of Welch's fruit snacks from probably the '90s in there. In fact, I was hoping that when I first bought this car, the reason it was overheating was because it stunk like a bag of garbage up there. It was completely blocking the radiator, which happens a lot. on these Corvettes it was not the case for me, I found out that later this flooded and that's why a lot of the electronics were bad, so I placed an order for two new electric fans and I actually saw four Corvettes and assumed there were none.
There are even more of them, so they are prone to overheating, so I ordered an upgraded fan system and I thought while I was at it, we'll get an upgraded radiator, this one is thirty years old and already overheating, why not do it right? I think next week we'll have I should have upgraded the radiator and the fans and we'll put this back in there and put some new gas in it. Look at that nice QT and then I think this can hit the road. I think what I mean is that it's missing a lot of things. like the speedometer, the turn signals, the brakes, the fracture, that beer, mom, that's it for the engine bay for tonight, it's basically waiting for those parts to come in, then we'll put it back in and see if we do make this work.
I've also been tearing up the interior. things like see what I want to fix what I need to fix what the car needs that kind of thing you can tell we ripped out the carpet on the back deck here just try to figure out all the shady little electrical lenses this This is because it's been seen some water. The wiring is mostly fine. This car has not been disturbed. What I mean by this is that no one came here and modified it, so I can do everything right because I don't. I have to figure out things that aren't factory so I just have to trace the wires.
Find out where there are fuses, where those fuses might be bad. Know for any connectors that are bad, but for the most part, the wiring is fine. our window motors don't do anything practically all the little motors in this car are totally stuck the headlight motors the window motors the power door lock none of it works probably because it's submerged in water so I think We're just going to I have to go to each of those things, replace the engine. I hope that's all. It's probably some fuses, some things like that, probably little modules and hopefully this will work again, but I mean, even on the door there's rust. that spring there is a lot of water everywhere, the good thing about Corvettes is that their body is not made of metal, it is all fiberglass, fiberglass does not rust, which is good.
I mean, even here this is not metal, it's all fiberglass, which makes Corvettes very light, which is good for what we want to do in this car, which is go super fast, probably 300 miles per minute. hour or something, so I passed the question to the militia, my love, what would you like us to do with this car? I'm all ears, let me tell you what I think we should do with this car. I want to keep the lt5 engine because to me it is an iconic engine of this era of cars, it is a crazy engine.
I feel like I wouldn't be doing you any favors. The ZR1 name is not having the ZR1 LT5 engine in there, but I'm not opposed to doing some non-stock things to this engine to get a lot more horsepower. I think a couple hundred more horsepower from that engine should be quite doable. Also, since this car is pretty messy and not a beauty queen, I'm not opposed to making other modifications to the car either, I think the new seats are in order. I think I'd like to have some racing seats for this, something to give it something.
It feels a little more like a race track rather than a comfortable leather seat. I think these door panels are obviously junk and moldy so let's do something with them, we can replace them with factory options or we could just get something like that. a small piece of aluminum and I just put it on the inside to give it a clean look, but what I'm thinking is more of a race car look. The gauges that we could use with this, like we need to redo them because these gauges are screwed on. probably due to water we can just replace everything and put the original gauges back or maybe we could build a custom dash and put in as you know some custom gauges might look cool thatit would be a lot more work than just replacing it with the original material, I'm a little torn because I think it would look better if everything was fully custom, but I don't know how to do it and it would be a lot of work to learn.
And figure it out, so I'm not sure there's a six point four point roll cage like a half cage here, maybe something will add a little bit of security because I'd like to do some things in this car that I'd like to take it to. a quarter mile play with a little bit, maybe do some road courses, that would make me feel a little better and help me toughen up a little bit and then I'm getting ahead of myself because I haven't done it, you know? I tried this car, but I kind of want to do coilovers, I want to do new brakes, like upgraded brakes for this thing, maybe different wheels, although I really like the zero one wheels, so dim Alysha if you had a 1990 Corvette zr1 without logos rockets, what would you do to it?
She comments below and now I haven't heard you that it was an axis deer that came out of the pasture. They make crazy dinosaur noises. The first time I heard it I was totally scared. Now I would talk about that. Something related. I used this truck to move that Corvette and I'll use it to move all of our cars, so I'd talk a little bit. A couple of videos ago we had a video where I and I put a toolbox in the truck. I filled it with a bunch of things I thought I needed and asked you guys for help on what I was missing.
They had some cool ideas, things I hadn't thought of, one of them was a breaker bar, so I may as well put a little cheat tube in there to get some. extra leverage good idea good thing to have another was a small portable pump that plugs into a 12 volt power source and is made to inflate tires so if you have one you know you just have a flat tire or you changed a flat and your spare parts. low and then also comes a super clever idea and obviously these are all old. I already had all these things in my barn, but I didn't think about them, so I'm going to put them all in my truck, okay, I have my stuff in my little tool bag, I'm going to go in there for those who don't know, ya which is just a way to move a ton of weight, whether your truck gets stuck or you need to stop something, they are super convenient and good.
I have two because sometimes it's good to use one to take the pressure off, so you pick up the other one and twist them. Well, actually I'm going to light up the photos here too and we're done, thanks everyone for your help with that, two more really good suggestions, but I still don't have a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. I think they are excellent and I think after that I have everything we need. there, Coenen time next week, start first Drive, hopefully if everything goes to plan, thanks everyone for watching, we'll call this when we work on cars, garage demos, thanks for watching the garage demos.
I love you and see you next time. oh shut up down there
