Mar 08, 2024welcome to the upstate customer body this video will show how i made this
wedding
sign
and don't forget to hit the subscribe button first. I do all the design
work in Bcarve
Pro and once I'm happy with the design I then generate the toolpaths, then I can save them to my computer and prepare to load them into the easel software for x-carve
. This will show how I load the three different G codes into the easel software generating three different windows, now we will get our material ready and for this project we will use a piece of 3/4 birch plywood that measures 12 inches tall by 24 inches Wide. Before we carve, we're going to go ahead and stain the front on the back of this piece to In this project I'm using Minwax Dark Walnut stain when applying it. I don't give much time to saturation. I put on the dye and come back right away and wipe off the excess with a cloth after applying the dye. I will let the piece dry overnight. Before loading it into the machine, the first bit I will use for the roughing stage will be the quarter inch down cut and I will leave a link to all the bits in this video in the description below now that the crimping is done, We'll go ahead and change our bits to the 90 degree V bit to do all the engraving on the letters and it will also carve the faux skin around the outside of the sign, it's time for another bit change. go back to the quarter inch cut down to trim our sign profile.
Now that all the carving is done on the front, we'll drop it, turn the sign over, and change it to a keyhole bit so we can router. slot on the back to hang the sign, once it is all done on the CNC we will move to the bench, cut the tabs and finish the sanding with our 5 inch orbital sander, then I will go over it with a smooth sanding block and break up any of the edges that the 5-inch sander didn't manage. I also like to dive into engraving and remove any of the tool marks from the roughing bit.
Once all the sanding is done, it's time to remove the stain again. and stain the edges to match the front and back of the sign. Once everything is carved, sanded and stained, I'll go ahead and apply three coats of this clear lacquer on the side and here is the finished product.
