In today's video we're going to take a look at Walmart

survival

gear

that

doesn

't

or maybe stays so I love finding deals on

gear

and if you've seen any of my videos for a long time, I started the channel , there's a whole series I did on budget bushcraft and one of my go-to places for bargains and gear that won't break the bank has been Walmart and I even did a video on camping gear. that I found at Walmart and today what I want to do is show you a package that I put together where all the content, 99.9 of the content, is from Walmart, so the reason I want to do this is because I want people to be able to See that you don't always have to spend tons and tons of money to put together a bag to go out and do things, especially if you're looking to put together a bag for your truck or your car. a get home bag or a

survival

bag, a grab and go bag, you may not want to put a lot of money into it because there is always a chance that someone will break into your vehicle and steal your gear, and if you have a lot money Wrapped in that stuff it's going to hurt even if you're insured it's still going to sting so I'm going to show you what I came up with when I went shopping at Walmart and found a lot of interesting things that are actually pretty. very good and worth considering and maybe these are some items that you can throw in your bag or maybe you can put together a complete kit like the one I have to help you continue on your next outing or keep it in your vehicle to take to home. or to survive, so let's jump right into this and take a look at what I found.

Walmart has a lot of stuff recently in their camping section, meaning also throughout the store, it's really suitable for building a really good or decent survival kit. that will get you started so the first thing that I found that really started this whole process for me was this bag, this backpack is carried at Walmart stores in the camping section, it's like 14 to 15 dollars and I just couldn't. I think that backpack was so cheap, since it is not a high quality backpack. I think the company is outdoor products. It is a very low quality backpack, but I was very surprised at how comfortable it was for such a person. small backpack and how well it organized my gear and held everything I put together, so the only thing I have done to this bag so far that is not in stock is that I removed the zipper pulls it had and replaced them with Drawstring 550, one thing to note, I think probably the weakest point of this backpack is probably the zippers, they are very small, they are not ykk, but I can say that, so there is a possibility of them exploding. the future, but you won't know until you try it, but if you're not really using the bag all the time, it's just a storage device that goes in your truck or your car, these might now be some of the features that really I liked this bag from the beginning because it had a little Molly on the front.

I don't really care for that contrasting light tan color. I wish they made it the same green as the pack, but you know, whatever it is, it's a 14. backpack, but this at least allows you to put in some military bags, some surplus military bags that help you expand the backpack and hold it longer organized. Other features that I really found interesting is that it has water bottle pockets on the side. that you can attach with these drawstring closures and they fit a 32 ounce water bottle which is fantastic, it's always a feature I look for in backpacks when I buy them.

I really want outside water bottle pockets so I can get to my water quickly and they have to be able to hold a 32 ounce bottle, not the skinny bottles because you know you need to carry a lot of water, you need to stay hydrated when you're out hiking and especially if we're Talking of that, you know some kind of scenario, uh, where you can be out for a couple of days without planning, having water, lots of water to drink is really crucial, so there are water bottle pockets on both sides of the backpack , another thing I really liked.
survival gear from walmart that doesn t suck
It was the shoulder straps that are actually quite comfortable and they're long enough that I can actually wear the backpack and be comfortable and that's a lot of backpacks this size because this is a small backpack. I think I'll have to look it up, it's like 18 liters or something, it's really small, but usually the straps don't come out far enough and I have wide shoulders and you know, I have this little backpack that I'm trying to get. on my shoulders and it's not very comfortable, this thing wears very well and I was very surprised, you know it has mesh material on the back so that will help with heat mitigation and breathability.
There is not much padding on the back. backpack itself, but I'll show you a trick that I came up with for that, but just so you know the straps themselves are really decent quality and then it has a sternum strap that can be adjusted up and down so that If you are taller you can move. this all the way and you'll be fine and that's what I did and it's actually very comfortable and there's plenty of room and it gives up that sternum strap so you can't get over it, it's really a nice little bag for the money, there are no other points of attachment, there's nothing on the bottom, there's no drainage holes, so this thing

doesn

't really have a lot of features, but the pockets are pretty nice, so we've got a little zipper pocket up here. you have something like what I would consider an admin pocket and this actually has some organization to it, there are some pockets here and there's a keep for your keys or a light or whatever so you know you can organize some of your stuff Overall pretty decent only one zipper on this pocket you know most tactical backpacks and more high end backpacks will have two zippers so you can access them from either side this only has one except the compartment major.
It has double zippers that allow you to get into the backpack, uh, pretty easily, the zippers don't go all the way down because the water bottle pockets, so you're only going to go, you know, a quarter of the length of the backpack open, but it's more than enough, since it's such a small bag, you have a grab handle. Now when I bought this, it had this grab handle and then I had a really small one and I don't know, I had two. I think the small one was for hanging on tent pegs, so I just cut it off, I mean, I don't need two handles.
Another thing to note is that there is a hydration port so if you want to put a hydration bladder inside the pack there is a port for that now one thing I talked about about not having any padding in the back from the backpack, what I did was take our friend the blue foam pad that you find in the camping section. I have a roll of this in my house and every time. I got a backpack, cut out a small section and stuffed it into my backpack to become a sitting or kneeling pad and in a bag like this it actually provides some padding for your back as there isn't much with this bag. , so I'm going to use it right now, let's put it on that.
There is a hanger for your hydration bladder which is a great feature and there is a pocket with elastic to hold your hydration bladder and you can probably do two or three. uh liter bag here easily and it will fit well so that's the backpack itself um let's look at some of the contents and the other interesting things that I've found, I don't know what's going on, there's a plane that's just buzzing constantly over my head it's like I'm not saying what I'm thinking but anyway I have to deal with it okay so I found some other gear at Walmart that I think are pretty awesome, one thing Walmart has a great deal on every time .
I walk into the store and it's these water bottles, they look a lot like a nalgene, they weigh 32 ounces, the cool thing about them is they actually have a lid that you can drink from like this, so there you can buy lids like this as a market secondary. for the nalgenes I think they are called cap caps or something like that from human gear I have a couple of older ones in my nail jeans and I love them because when you drink from the big water bottle it has that poor spout and you don't have all that water running through all over your face and spilling everywhere so it's very easy to drink and then if you want to fill it up you can take off the top cap and put ice in there. or fill it from the tap to make it a nice bottle and the good thing is that I have seen them for five dollars.
I actually saw them on sale once, they were like a dollar and I think they're on again. five now, but they come in several different colors and they have a ton of them in the store. I'm in the camping section so I definitely bought a couple of these, they're pretty decent quality and they have graduation marks on the side so if you're making dehydrated meals that gives you a chance to do some measurements, another element that is really important for a survival kit is to protect your hands, gloves are very important, whatever kit you prepare, you need to have some type of gloves because you are working with knives and saws and you are processing wood and you are walking and grabbing things in the woods and you want to protect your hands your hands are very important and I found this pair of super heavy duty gloves and I really like these because they have this kind of canvas type material on the outside and then this suede material with grip on the palm and they're put together so the dirt doesn't get on my glove as much and they're really, you know, with everything. with Walmart they are really affordable, I bought them in the tool section, um, hardware section, but man, they are good gloves, well, you know, I don't think there was that much, maybe 12 dollars, something like that in that neighborhood and these really .
You know, these are just as good as my mechanics wear gloves that I buy and they look great and are very comfortable. Another thing you will need in your survival kit is a first aid kit which is very important, of course, train yourself. but you need some kind of basic material, uh, just to cut, you know, take care of those little cuts and abrasions. I found this little kit for less than five dollars in the drugstore section and what I liked about it was that it was a complete kit it had the lock box that keeps everything together and keeps it from getting crushed and wet and it's really a decent little kit.
I'm not going to take everything out, but it comes with bandages, topicals and medications, instruments like gloves, tape, uh. Q-tips, a tongue depressor, an ice pack and then wound dressings of different sizes, so 85 items, um, there's a whole list here in the back, check it out when you go to Walmart, that's awesome, five dollars from equate, a decent little first aid kit, fantastic. Okay, now we're getting into some interesting stuff. One of the best products of all time that Walmart has had in their camping section is this guy and it is not from Walmart, you buy it from a very reputable Stanley company and this is Stanley. adventure pot these are under 20 dollars, i think sometimes they are in the 15 to 16 dollar range.
It's a single wall stainless steel pot, as you can see mine has been used very well, it's great to use with a stove. in a fire uh of course there are different modifications you can do to it. I take the plastic tab off mine and put a split ring on it which allows me to hang it from the fire or something you know, like a chain or a stick. on the fire so I can cook over an open fire if I want. The nice thing about this pot is, and some people don't know this, that if you buy the cheap nest cup that they sell at Walmart, it fits perfectly in the bottom of that Stanley pot, so now you have a metal cup that gives you another container to boil and drink water for cooking and another pot for cooking, so now you have two pots, which is awesome and the other cool thing about the Stanley pot is that it fits. the little isobutane and propane fuel mixture canisters, so this is the jetboil.
They don't sell these small jars at Walmart now, so this is the only item I didn't buy at Walmart. I usually buy them at Rei, but they fit perfectly. inside the pot and the pot comes with two of these mugs that are really decent coffee mugs and you know they have some insulation so they keep your drink warm. I only use one cup because it's usually just me in the woods. so I put the cup in there and then what I do is I take the fuel container and turn it around and it fits perfectly inside the Stanley, so there I have a way to boil water and cook food, which is so important when you're in the forest, the handle folds up nicely and I'm going to put it in the Stanley pot now if you're going to have a pot to cook in, it's a really good idea to have some kind of stove and this is a recent find that left me impressed.
I came across this on YouTube. I saw another guy review this stove and it's from Ozark Trail sold at Walmart and it's a very nice gas stove. This works with all different size fuel bottles so you just screw that on, you have a piezo igniter and then the pot holders come on.They fold like this. Now you have a very nice little stove. The nice thing about this stove is that it was running about 12 or 13 at Walmart, but it comes with more than just the stove, so there's the stove, you get a carrying case, you get an adapter that clips onto the bottom of the stove and then this is going to go into the green propane bottles that they sell at Walmart, which gives you another fuel option in any situation where you might be looking for different fuel sources that have this ability to go to the propane bottles that are very common in tents and camps.
Having this adapter is awesome and they sell them on Amazon but you know they're like 10 or 12 so getting it with the stove is a bonus but wait there's more uh there's a really awesome stand and how this works is kinda complicated to understand, but I did it a couple of times and I think I got it, so this is going to hold the container when you're cooking, what I do is I set it down and then yeah, then I unfold it and that gives you a stable base, like this that if you are on uneven ground you don't have to worry about your pot falling over, it is such a fantastic piece. team, I was very surprised by this, now let's go ahead and open up what that jet was up here, let's see how much adjustability I have there, come on, it's going in the wrong direction, turn that down to a very fine low flame so you can conserve. gas and then if you want to increase it let's try it again so you have adjustability and then with the pot holder you have stability and that's really cool another great thing about this stove that I forgot to mention is that it has a side pocket right here and you can put the stove holder in it, but you can put the little gas bottles in this bag along with the adapter and the stove itself and it closes up nicely and you have a nice little kit, so I have my stove.
I also have a really nice mess kit and this one is from a brand that I pronounce uco uco and um uco really makes a good kit and this mess kit is pretty awesome, it comes with the fork and you open it, you open the lid and you have two sections , you can use one for a plate and one for a bowl, of course, Walmart. You know most Walmarts have food so you can find things like meat sticks. I found this in the grocery section. This is pulled pork. great value, I've had this in my ramen, it's fantastic and it's very affordable, and of course ramen noodles so you have some survival food that you can pick up when you're stocking your kit and picking up.
Grab one of these mess kits and you'll have something to eat, so you won't have to live like a barbarian. Very nice kit, it has a kind of silicone rubber bead at the bottom to prevent it from slipping. around the table, uh, and the lid is actually nice, if you notice when I was showing this, it has a gasket that will help keep the contents sealed and if maybe you have some leftover food, you can put it here, seal. that down and it'll keep it from leaking everywhere, it might help keep it for a little bit longer and then one item that I use in all my kits and even for camping are these fillets uh these are from kuglens.
They are very affordable. They are a steak. They are aluminum. This is how they come with this white cord. I usually remove that cord and put on something a little brighter like a neon orange or green. But for tent stakes they are they are awesome and the reason I have tent stakes is because if you saw at the beginning of the video, I was putting a tarp on the ground to sit on, but this tarp is actually big enough like sleeping under and this is another Great outdoor products that they sell at Walmart and this is the 5x7 tarp that comes in this little bag so it's very affordable.
It's like an item out of 10. It's a great multipurpose item. Now I'm using it as my floor cloth. I can sit down because the ground is very wet today, but if I wanted to, I could hang it between a couple of trees, lean a little too, and I could sleep there if I had to, as an emergency shelter. that doesn't break the bank, it's definitely worth looking at for a fantastic piece of gear and of course Walmart always has paracord so grab a couple skeins of that and you'll be ready to pitch a shelter with your tent stakes now on Inside pocket here I have this bag.
I don't know if you can buy this bag at Walmart. I've had this for a while. It is from clc which is a company that makes bags for the construction industry so they may not be sold. this at Walmart but there are similar things at Walmart. I'm sure this is what I had, so I'm using it, but you'll need some equipment to start fires and repair things, so Gorilla tape available at Walmart is always a good thing. to have in a survival kit like I said paracord, they sell paracord in the camping section. um, you're going to need a means to start a fire, so buy some bic lighters, there you go, those are usually at the cash registers, another great product from uco.
Is this match safe? What I love about this thing is that these cute lifeboat style matches come in an airtight container. They also sell the spare parts, so if you run out, you can buy more matches and it has a striker on the side and it comes. with an extra striker and these things burn like crazy and um if you put them in water they will and you take them out they will light up again so they are a great way to start a fire. I love uco lifeboat matches or waterproof matches, they are fantastic. great product I always want to have multiple ways to start a fire in a survival kit, that's important, never rely on just one thing, so I have a lighter, I have matches and then the last thing to start a fire is this refractory steel. an Ozark Trail special and I was a little surprised at how well it does so you've got the striker you've got the ferro rod it does a decent job of sending sparks it's fantastic and bright orange so you can find it for no Don't lose it and then it has a drawstring that keeps the striker and stem together so you don't lose that nice little piece of kit.
In fact, I'm thinking about collecting more of these and putting them in various survival types. kits that I make so I have some smaller ones and this would fit perfectly in them and I'm impressed by how much sparkle it throws for the size it is and it's like a four dollar item and then a couple other things you can always pick up at Walmart um sometimes these are in the auto section of the night eye room of the uh of course for the night eyes they're great for setting up shelters and attaching things to the outside of your bag so pick up some of those and Then get some type of organizer bag to keep all your things together so they don't float or use sachets which is another great way to keep things waterproof.
I bought the glow sticks after Halloween in the clearance section. They usually have bins for a dollar or 50 cents or something like that, but you can pick them up, I think all year round, these are just green ones, it even has a string that comes with it, so of course the kitties pick them up. For Halloween, use them for trick-or-treating, but they work well as a survival bag so you don't have to spend a lot of money on them, so get them at Walmart, it will stop breaking pretty easily, so it should be good. that's rotten that's rotten let's go up here let's get some green stuff out too but it's like half dead half the line weird it's wet inside it has green stuff coming out of it but parts of it are breaking off like it's dead, I don't know alright what happened, it's just not quite dead yet, I guess it's definitely not as efficient as my silky butt, I think it worked well for that little cut, so as an emergency saw to throw your pack in, I don't think you'll have any problem with this, it should be fine, I wish I had more stuff to cut up of course, another thing you really need in a bag or survival kit is some type of light source, headlamps are the way.
To go that route you can work hands-free, I prefer those to flashlights. I found this little headlamp at Walmart. This is an Ozark trail. It has a main light. It has a couple different levels and then I guess it has more of an area light. on the side and then if you want you can do both to get more light so the nice thing about this is that it's rechargeable so it comes with a USB I think it's a USB micro or C and it plugs into the side bottom and loads it. a headband is really comfortable and adjustable and then the back plate actually has some kind of soft foam, velvet type material, so it's on your forehead, it doesn't hurt, you don't know, because it's a hot spot. very comfortable, I guess what I'm trying to say, so it's a really decent little headlamp.
I think it was definitely under 20 um, maybe even under 15 if I remember correctly. I bought it last year and I've been using it for camping and I really like it, just a decent little headlamp and they have all kinds of headlamps at Walmart, there's everything, there's different brands and different lumens. You can be super cheap, like a couple of dollars. I wouldn't suggest that, but you know, spend. just a little more and you will get something of decent quality that will last you so I definitely need a good headlamp when working with your equipment thanks for watching the video thanks for visiting the channel uh if you like everything please subscribe and share. that bell icon for notifications, check out the affiliate links below that help the channel and as always, thanks so much for watching, see you next time on the prepared traveler.
