May 26, 2024
Hi everyone, I'm Rick Biato, so today I open up my phone, I'm scrolling and I get to this thing that

says

how big Taylor Swift is, it's from the New York Times, but then I look a little closer and it

says

yes she he's

bigger

than the Beatles, that was the bait that got me to read the article, so this article talks about the Beatles' hits and their chart performance and compares him to Taylor. There are many other details and variables that I will cover here. Pop music is not made the same way it was 60 years ago, it is not listened to the same way now that we have streaming, people bought albums back then and use things like number one hits to compare what the Beatles did ago 60 years of what Taylor did.

Swift has been doing it since the mid-2000s. Now I have a little history with Taylor Swift. I actually don't know Taylor Swift at all, but she produced a band called Need to Breath. In fact, I produced three of his albums, one called The Heat in 2007, another called The Outsiders in 2009 and one called Reckoning in 2011 and in 2011 Taylor Swift asked that I need to breathe to open her 82 dates and I went to many of the concerts I went to. backstage. I was 5T away from Taylor, I didn't know her or anything like that. I'm not going to say I met Taylor Swift back then, but I went to a few dates and saw how the whole machine was working well, let's take a look at this graph here. where it talks about the number one songs they had, so it took the Beatles six years from 1964 to 1970 to get 20 number one hits, while it took Taylor Swift 12 years to get 12 number one hits, also, the Beatles between 1964 and 65 they had 11 issues. one of the hits, included in 1964 I want to hold your hand, she loves you, you can't find me, love, love me, I do hard days, nights, I feel good and then, in 65, eight days a week, Ticket to Ride me It helped yesterday and we can solve it, that's almost it. the entire number that Taylor had now some of you might be saying, wait a minute, Taylor Swift had number one songs before, well she had number one country songs, but as you can see, anyone can have a number one country song, including me my.

I had one in 2013, so they're obviously not that hard to get a hold of before I move on, let me finish the Beatles number one songs that I haven't mentioned, numbers 12 and 66. Paperback Writer Penny Lane All You Need Is Love Hello, bye, Hey Jude, let's come back, we'll get together. something that is on the long and winding road in 1970 of the Beatles number one songs, there are only three people who wrote them John Lennin, Paul m Carney and George Harrison, in contrast, Taylor Swift's 12 number one songs have 12 different writers, they are Taylor Swift. Max Martin shelc Jack Antonoff Aaron desar Liz Rose Fred fairbrass Richard fairbrass wait a second the fairbrass brothers That's right, said Fred, they are actually listed as songwriters because Taylor's song was borrowed by Rob manzoli St Vincent post Malone Kendrick Lamar having so many collaborators what Let Taylor be on tour endlessly because these people are feeding her song ideas all the time, let me give you an example of what I'm talking about, you know, this song We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is written by Taylor, Max Martin and Shel, if you delete her. the vocals on this and just listen to the track which is just a guitar, she plays one on a loop, she's playing a phrase on there and they're just looping it.

At Protools we call this a bed track or just an instrument that you write lyrics on, that's not to diminish anything. Writing-wise, it's an incredibly well-written song, but Taylor Swift gets stuff like this all the time from top songwriters. She takes another of her number one songs written by her and Aaron Desar Cardigan. she just plays the instrumental track and you get something like this. These are cracks that she writes the melody and lyrics over. I want to explain a little more about how these producer-driven songs are written. The reason I did a solo on the instrumental base is because the producers of the first case Max Martin and Shellbach and we'll never get back together that's all they did all those things yes Taylor may have played the Rift guitar once or twice and they cut it but they're doing the drums programming the keyboard parts the guitar parts all the swells all you hear is them the aaron desar track is all of him he's playing the guitars the keyboards the drums all of jack antina's stuff if you look the song fortnite if you look at the credits it says Taylor Smith vocals composition producer post Malone vocals composer but Jack antinoff producer composer drums synthesizer percussion electric guitar acoustic guitar programming this is how these songs are made and it's important to recognize the producers Taylor Swift is not pushing buttons or programming drums and doing something like that, this is not unique For Taylor Swift, this is how all pop music is done with a backing track and then you have the top line, which is the melody.

Now I don't have any knowledge of Taylor Swift working with Max Martin, but I met Max Martin. before now, Taylor probably writes the melody or part of the melody and the lyrics, but when I listen to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I hear that chorus Melody, I hear a Max Martin melody or a Shellback Max Martin melody, that's right how they write Melodies. I listened to many of her songs and analyzed them. These guys are professionals. Max Martin is an incredible melody writer and these guys are behind the scenes like that and they don't really get the credit, but that's how pop music is expressed. together for the most part now, as well written as these Taylor Swift songs are, they can't compare to songs like Lady Madonna, which has a piano birth that is very complicated to play, or a song like I'm the warus, which starts on B. was shortened to D and the verse goes to chord structures The Beatles didn't repeat ideas, their songs are so varied that it's surprising no one says you know this Beetles song sounds like another Beatles song and they came up with all those ideas themselves. without a bed track with people emailing them stuff, they sat together and played, they played live in the studio, they did the Rhythm Section and in many cases they sang the vocals live, look at this long and winding road that LE took your will. never go away or this video of them playing get back on the roof get get back get back that get back is basically the one on the record now.
I don't want to disparage what Taylor does but these are completely different universes. The Beatles not only innovated melodically, lyrically, harmonically, I mean, chord changes and things like that, they created a lot of the vocabulary of the music that came after. Taylor's innovations are in commerce or in reinventing herself, she's actually kind of a content creator, think about it, she had number one songs as a country. artist and then she thought, "Well, I want to be a pop artist and who does she go to first? She goes to Max Martin because Max Martin is the hitmaker and then when she wants to change her music again, she goes to Jack Antonoff, who is a type of indie rock." and he writes these kind of indie rock songs and she changes her music like that and then she goes to Aaron Desar from the National, who is also an indie rock guy and everyone has their own unique way of creating these bed songs, but that's what do it for her and she's innovative in that sense, but she's changing her content because of the pop music algorithm.
Do you want to hear something funny? I actually did a video last year talking about content creator. I made a video about who is

bigger

Taylor Swift or Mr Beast and That's when I realized that Taylor Swift is like Mr Beast, the biggest of all, and I didn't put it right to answer the question posed at the beginning of the video. Is Taylor Swift bigger than the Beatles culturally no, commercially no, but she's closer if you think I'm wrong about this leave it in the comments say Rick you're an idiot you're not even like what are you talking about? hit subscribe leave a comment thanks for watching
