THE HOBBIT, Production Diary 1

Mar 24, 2024
Hello, welcome to the first of our blogs about the making of The Hobbit. It's amazing to be back here again. This starts exactly as it was in The Lord of the Rings and in fact it's built on our set here in Wellington and it's exactly the same set that was built twelve years ago, we've been filming for a few days and I just wanted to take this opportunity to give you a little glimpse into the lead-up to filming and some of the pre-

production

that led up to the first day of our shoot and I hope to keep you posted as we move forward over the next two or three years.

See you soon. Oh, you're in 3D and you look good. See you and this looks beautiful. It looks cool when it's drawn because I actually wish he could also fight with the remains, sort of clinging to his body and beasts that empower people. We wanted to create an eye that wasn't too big. We need to make a little blog that you might want. Say hello to The Hobbit fans, yes, shy artists idea, so we're going to go up to the locker room and take a look at a couple of dwarf costumes and makeup accessories, which is always exciting, although we won't show you much. in this particular blog because we'll save it for the future, but at least you'll get to see a little bit of our costume department, lots of busy people working on lots of costumes, lots of interesting textures, details and leather. and the relief, everything is very good here, it's like some kind of big magician's workshop, hello, my goodness, hello, well, you can use them as a partner, yes, you can just swing and hit, and in a couple of wet work and throat, Leo says it's a good, oh, you know, just get nerdy and take that at like ten, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, now, this is a family set, it's the chambers of Elrond and it is an exact copy of the one we had in the Fellowship of the Ring, in fact, recently.

More Interesting Facts About,

Here on the balcony is where the Council of Elrond took place, where the Fellowship was formed and Frodo volunteered to take the ring to Mordor, but also in the

hobbit

there will be many new fragments of Rivendell that we have not seen before. Some really cool parts of Rivendell, in fact, we'll keep as a bit of a surprise for now. There's an old friend upstairs. Let's take a quick look. Here we are. I'm sure you'll recognize the statue in ASSEL, the Broken Sword. he sits down and of course around the time of The Hobbit the sword will be here and it's strange walking around here because it was 10 or 11 years ago and I'm used to looking at a set like this on film, you know, and now we're back in In it, it is almost as if you have entered a movie, it is a very strange experience when we have a door blocked with you, this is where we are going to film at the same moment.

The beginning of its filming is the Goblin tunnels beneath the Misty Mountains. It's a very iconic scene in The Hobbit where Bilbo has an encounter. Well, you know who's worth it, right? If you read The Hobbit, there's no need to spoil it for anyone who did. No, but this is like a small network of caves. Look, there's another little set of passages down here. It is a very elegant trip, but one of the things we have done to be able to take the shots is to make sure. that all the different walls of the cave can be removed so that our big, bulky cameras can film the angles we need oh my god, look at this thing here, it looks like a foot or an arm oh, I don't know, it looks rather creepy, not well?

So how much applause do we need, for example, should we? um I think bomb sits at the end and then, and then, there's a slight grip and then when you pop the other side, ah, yeah, yeah, yeah, now. I know it's a sure thing, yeah, yeah, this is blocking so we're not really rehearsing, but we're getting the actors walking and we're talking about what to do with the scene that's actually because it means when we can. To film this, we have a plan. You might be good to get close and then realize there's something on your foot and bet that maybe you kept it.
Try to get rid of that first. This will be fun. This will be more fun when everyone is in makeup and costumes and buying the heat in some kind of corner of the table, we have kilee awesome next to Kelly Philly and then dori dori and then nori, oh my god, Ori Dori nori Bofur Bombur. Berwick worked on it and Laurie Dori nori. This is a nightmare. We'll have Gandalf here abroad, so I thought it would be nice to give you all this door to play with and be a little late so you're as good as before. always being shy and always good my prediction is that everything will go incredibly well that day thanks Vince do you agree the complicated thing is that there are 13 drawers in this game the good news is that you are not in a fat suit I am in the nose and the fake eyebrows wave the stick of a beer buddy, right, there's no forward step per se, you're in, you're a winner, you're a winner in every step, just and we can stuff a fan in your robe just for something like that. give him some ear condition or mrs. problem well that's going to work with a little finishing that's going to work tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow so I'm officially the first person in the makeup chair on The Hobbit officially that's awesome Oh namaste Kauai Ricky Thibeault hi hi hi hi Dora when we get back from London England our lighting thanks on behalf of all visitors for this ceremony for this celebration the blessing of the sound stage and for the welcome offered to us everyone felt deeply honored to be here for all who have waited so long for this day to begin this extraordinary journey filming The Hobbit.
I would like to wish you good luck, good health and good harmony. Many places, thank you. My name is Martin Freeman. I'm also in the cast. He stole everything. It was about saying in Maui this It's been a long time coming today, it's been even longer than we thought and, therefore, at the end of this journey we are all as close to each other as we have the potential to be at this moment, so Thank you very much, hello everyone. I'm Andy Serkis, I'm standing there, just browsing the returning crew and those who have gathered here to go on a journey and we are very, very grateful for your incredible hospitality and we take the opportunity to share the passion. and tell such an amazing story in such an amazing country with such beautiful people, you've known that for a long time.
I thought going back to the incredible experience of The Lord of the Rings wouldn't be a good idea, but really you already know that. I've come to the conclusion because movies are more stressful than difficult to make, but ultimately what makes them fun is the people you work with and the fact that you know we're going to be working with a lot of the old gang. . Having a lot of friends and obviously making new friends is really the goal of being here, so I'd be really excited if someone came up to me today and said we can continue pre-

production

for another six weeks.
I would say not. No, no, no, this just in reality, list and action, in a hole in the ground lived a
