2022 CHRISTMAS diy’s that are HIGH-END (I’m serious y’all) | Christmas diy's for resell

Mar 16, 2024
Welcome back to unicorn dust designs. My name is Sammy, I'm Montgomery. On this channel we DIY signs and there is always a laugh so if you think this is something you would like stay tuned because I have some amazing DIYs. For you today we're going to start with this silver tray that I bought at the Salvation Army and I'm going to give it a good coat of this matte clear from Rust-Oleum. I feel like when you have a slippery surface like this it just helps to have something to adhere the paint to, sorry for my awesome footage while doing here, my Salvation Army has a whole section full of all this silver stuff and they usually have a tan label on it like this which when that's 50 off, they usually look like the most ornate things I could find, so now that it's nice and matte, I'm going to take White Swan from DIY paint and I'm going to use a synthetic brush for this and the reason why I'm going to do that instead of using like a chippy brush like I normally do is because I want um, I don't want the brush strokes of paint and this will give me a little bit of a softer finish on all of my DIY paintings, you know what. the drill will do it.

Be below in the description box. I got them from upcycled by Breed.com and once I'm done with this I'm not going to paint the back because we're going to wear it down, you'll see the silver peeking out. so I didn't feel the need to paint the back. I'm going to do two layers of this. I'm going to let it dry completely and then I'm going to take my polyacrylic or sorry, I'm going to sand it first. I'm just grabbing a rough sanding sponge from Dollar Tree and I'm going to de-stress it so you can see some of that silver and some of that detail, look how pretty it is.

I'm going to go all around, excuse me, I'm going to go around all the edges and then I tried to get in there to hit some of those little humps you see there. I did my best but it didn't come out as distressed as I would have liked, so now that it's done, I clean it up. I'm going to take my water-based polyacrylic. You want to make sure you use water based so it doesn't yellow your paint and then I go and use a chip brush anyway, oh my gosh. Okay, so I'm going to use an iron-on orchid designs transfer on your transfer sheet.

They say clean your room first. Now I know you don't have to clean it, but I'd rather be sure. I'm sorry, so I'm going to take my transfers and when I saw this transfer book I already knew that this transfer had to go on this silver tray. Now I get my transfers, all my bonda IOD stuff at Painted Heirloom.com. Leave your link in the description box and if you're a new customer, use Unicorn 10 for a discount, so I'm going to reduce this. I couldn't get the last part in, but I'll save it and you never know what I might.

Use it later now learn from me guys I think because I put on the clear and literally dried it with my heat gun and then went straight to the transfer it started to raise my paint so I would say let the transparent layer. for a moment and then log in with your transfer so you can see. I'm just using one of my vinyl spatulas. I don't know what these things are called. You could also come with a little plastic thing to rub them on. I always prefer to lift my transfer while I'm pulling it back. I feel like it helps free up the transfer a little more now.
I know not everyone is going to be able to afford to get this. You can always take the bones of this and you can use, you know, decoupage, you can print on your printer and do the Mod Podge trick to transfer your image, so just use the bones of this if IOD is something that's not in your budget at all. Right now, it's totally fine. I am here to inspire. And I give you ideas and then you can make them your own, so now that I'm done and this is completely released, I'm going to take a piece of that carrier paper and I'm going to polish this up, so what am I going to do?
What I'm doing here is I'm just pressing that into my painting, making sure it's all down and it's not peeling off or going anywhere and then I lighten it with a little bit of matte and you guys look at how beautiful. Seriously, when I saw this at the launch I thought of this silver tray immediately and it looks beautiful here, it's so fitting, let me know if you think this was a good image for this tray. Well, I found them at Savers and I was Well, first of all, I want to say they're perfect, they're made of wood, there's nothing you can't do with wood, so I'm going to take them off.
I took them outside and completely sanded the top. I don't love you guys I just had to show you this so you know that when you see something on Pinterest it says take acrylic latex caulk and you can use that to let you know how to mold all that stuff and then I mean that's all I really saw on Pinterest I didn't actually read the Pinterest post so I asked my husband to pick this up. I started doing it and it's a complete mess, then I start reading the caulk tube or what is this, yeah it's caulk and it says it takes like five to seven days to dry I just thought I'd show you my little oopsie, it's okay, so now I'm taking these are the new IOD Christmas molds.
I'm taking cornstarch and I'm going to put it in my molds. I'm going to help release the clay or whatever you're using from the mold, so I'm going to try a different clay this time. I'm trying clay with paper and I must say I really liked it, it was a lot, it was super soft and it was easy to work with I will say, although when you see me make the next ones the snowflakes were so soft that sometimes when I was pulling of the clay, you know, throughout the image, it was like it was pulling it up.
I so uh oh and then you guys, if you actually read, you know because I almost don't do it, I just say oh, I can do that on the iog like molds on the back, it shows them using like a spatula on it to press them down and There. is where I got the idea to use my little white thing here yeah it was like oh wow this makes it so much easier so you can see how it stays like it stands up it's so soft and I think the clay dries to air is something like that. heavier I don't know, I'm not an expert in molds or clay, okay, but I have to go down.
I let this dry overnight in the molds. I read the guys comments about it and was having a lot of problems with my air. Dry clay shit I was going to say crunch and you all said let it dry in the mold so that's what I did with the paper clay and I have to say this is going to sound really silly but it really looked like it had paper. and I rolled it up and wet it and let it dry, that sounds so silly because it's paper clay, so obviously, but anyway, the little excess, like little bits that were hanging out, I just got my weeding tool and something like , that I am?
Doing like pressing, sanding it with that. The details on these snowflakes are so fine that I couldn't get any sandpaper in there, so this is how I chose to do it now. I'm taking my star Bond glue and I'm going to use this to adhere my molds and the reason I'm doing this instead of the tight Bond wood glue that I normally use or hot glue is because the glue is so thin on this one that I can glue all of those little details together and it doesn't come out from underneath so you can see how I can get all those little pieces and then when I put them on my piece of wood, I don't have a bunch. of this comes out like from under the mold and then I also have the accelerator and this I was able to push down on the mold, spray this and then it dries instantly when you hit it so as you can see I only sanded the top.
Of these I wanted that beautiful old stained wood to still be there. I'm going to remove some painter's tape from those edges and then I'm going to grab I think this color is Sailor by DIY Paints and I'm going to grab a stencil. Dollar Tree brush and now we're going to apply this on top. Of course, it's not how I normally want brush strokes, so I start stippling this and if you guys have seen my channel before, I'm sorry. I thought it sounds like I'm repeating myself, but there may be new viewers here, so I like to use this stencil brush because all those little bristles, those wire hairs get into all the little nooks and crannies, all those beautiful details to that none of that white shows through and then you can see with the DIY paints they are clay based so they look dark when wet but you can see as it dries this beautiful soft blue appears which I love now.
I'm going to take my data on DIY white wax. You all know I'm obsessed with wax and I'm just going to sprinkle it on the snowflakes. I don't want to touch the background paint. I really want these snowflakes to catch your eye, that's why I chose to make these snowflakes instead of the full piece and you can see all those beautiful details that emerge. It really amazes me how they are able to fit all these details into a mold. crazy now I'm going to take the darling and I'm going to take Waverly cashew and I'm going to do the same thing with stencil brush.
I'm going to start tapping there to get all those details right then. Let's take a look at the DIY dark wax at Boots mmm, it's delicious, delicious and let's dust it off and see it all. I love how this brings out all the features of these molds, anything that has texture, guys. I know I'm ready, so I just wipe off the excess with a paper towel and that's it, let's look at the frame, oh my gosh, I love it, okay, now we're going to put the caps back in there and you. Guys I know not everyone will like to just have them lying around, you can use real wood pieces like a one by four, cut into fours or you could even use Dollar Tree has some wood pieces similar to this one and those hooks they sell on the hardware store. so there is another option if you don't have these.
Now I'm cutting out my pillowcase that you guys see me use quite often. I'm going to grab my IOD stamps and I actually got this idea from Sonnets Garden and Bloom. I forgot what. she did, but she did, she made tags like this and I was like, okay, this is going to be the perfect little subtle addition to our I'm going to call them ornaments maybe, so I put my stamp on there. fraying the edges with my weeding tool so it doesn't look so clean and crisp, that's not my style at all and you guys, yeah, what am I doing now?
Oh, and then I'm just going to tie this and that's it. and you can use these inner trays. I even thought they would make great gifts and you could put a personalized message on the back with a pen or even write it by hand and then modify it on the back, oh my goodness what a sweet gift that would be. That's it and I think they turned out very well. I'm interested in the details of this one. I hope it inspired you to do this in one way or another. What's wrong with everyone? I hope you are enjoying these DIYs so far.

Yes, they are digging. This video, if you like DIY, make sure to subscribe and leave a comment. This will let YouTube know that you like this video and then they will share it with a group of people.
Okay guys, let's get back to the rest of this video. Now let's grab that pillowcase one more time. Well, guys, put everything away. They never know when they are going to use it. I'm going to grab this. This has been hanging around my basement for a long time I think it was 4.99 at Savers Savers is the best time now you guys like it compared to Salvation Army and Goodwill like Savers definitely has the best prices if you have one in your state , so I'll take all this out. don't touch that frame that frame is gurga okay, now I'm going to take that piece of glass.
I like how I used my rotary blade, it was so boring. I wasn't trying to be fancy for you guys, that's what I was trying to. I was like: look at me. I like having sewing tools. I didn't even know what to call them. Ok, I'm sorry. I ended up using my fabric scissors and cutting them out. You want to make sure you are using some. Do you want to overlay this because you can also do this with a picture frame if you don't necessarily have one of these, so I'm going to use some masking tape and tape it down and then take another transfer.
I was like a black and white kick right here guys but it's definitely my style, this like a neutral color background with the black is totally my style now I'm just trying to find the position where it would show in the frame now these Las transfers have stickiness, so they stick to my fabric. So I use thislittle plastic thing that was working, but I changed it to this metal spatula and let me tell you, once I changed it, this transfer was sticking to the fabric very well and you guys don't need to put anything on the fabric, since I didn't clean this, there's no paint on it, nothing, this transfer just goes right onto this fabric, which is awesome, so you can use this on any type that I don't.
I don't want to say any type of fabric because I don't know, but there are a lot of them. different fabrics now, once I took them off, I polished them. I don't think I've shown that I polished them and then I'm putting them on. On the top of my glass piece, I didn't get it super smooth, but you know, I have it pretty straight and when you do something like this you want the fabric to be as tight as possible, so I'm starting with the top that I'm going over. I'm just using hot glue and then I'm going to pull that fabric down as hard as I can and then I'm going to apply another hot glue thing and I'm using my silicone spatula that I have like a five pack or something in my Amazon store and I do it.
I'm pulling towards the center so it's nice and tight. I'm going to do the same thing with the other side as well and then put this back in. I don't know about you, maybe you have one of these in your house. My grandmother always had one on her dresser with all of her perfumes. It's very nostalgic for me and I will definitely keep this because of that. Brings back memories of my childhood, so I just put the inserts back in and we were done. I didn't want to touch the frame at all. I thought it made it look real.
You could see it well, a little bit of sand is gone, but. okay, it's mine, it adds pizzazz, is what I'm going to say, but I think it looks really majestic with the deer head and then those colors and that patina there, oh, it's absolutely beautiful, I love it. now we're going to try something different so I'm going to grab this box so I posted for my members asking them what I should do with this box and I showed them the image I was going to use. They all said they wanted to. I have to keep the box basically as is, um, but you know, when you ask your spouse like, hey, where should we go to dinner and they actually say and then you say no, let's go here for dinner?
That's basically what I did with this, okay, so this is what it looked like before, if any of you were wondering, I'm going to take it out on its side, spray it with red spray paint and then I'm going to clean it, now I'll be back to enter. I took my sanding block and tried to distress the edges but since I applied the clear coat it wasn't happening so I ended up going in later and distressing it with white, now I'm going to tape the inside. of the frame right here and I'm going to use that DIY white swan.
Now be sure to always read the instructions when using IOD products so that they are used in the correct way. Now here are the paint inlays. Well, these are absolutely. Awesome, so I'm going to cut as close to my image as possible. I have already sized and will make sure it fits now. I'm going to take a second coat of this paint now, when you use paint inlays you have to work fast so you either have to hurry up and paint your piece or paint it in sections because this coat of paint needs to be wet so what I did here was applying my second coat.
I'm working with a smaller piece, so I didn't necessarily have to. Do this in sections, now you want it to be nice and smooth. Now I take this paint and I put it on top of the wet paint and essentially what this paint and Lace are is a painted picture and it's going to be infused with that. wet paint and what I'm doing here is spraying it with water and then hitting it. I want to make sure I press that image into the wet paint. Now the mistake I made was one I made. Too heavy a layer of paint and then I pressed so hard on my image that the paint seemed to come out from under my inlay, so just use a lighter hand and you won't have to go so crazy. your paint layer now that is completely dry, the drying time will vary, we will take a spray bottle of water and you will spray that again, this will help release the paper from the paints, so you are going to look here how I mention it, okay, okay, and look at it, look at how it transferred to our painting.
Now it may not be perfect and you may need to get used to it. It is always better to keep this piece of paper because you could reuse them for the second time, now they will not look as vibrant as the first time, but you can use them for the second time. I was trying to correct my mistake because you could see where my paper line was because I pushed that paint to the side, so what I did was I took my spray bottle, I sprayed it on my image, I took a brush and I'm almost going to do an effect of stippling I guess you could say about and it will turn it into what looks like a watercolor so they are like DIY water soluble paints so when I put that water it activates that paint and then I can mix it and see how this almost?
It looks like it's turning into a watercolor painting on the wall. Now you don't have to do this. Your image could turn out totally fine. Mine is basically trying to hide things going on on the sides and then I was like, "You know what looks really nice." Mixed up, that's what I ended up doing and here's the piece after it was all said and done and I guess I didn't show it, but obviously I distressed the frame of this with some white paint, tied it all together and I love this there . There are plenty of other paint inlays too, guys, and I'm sure you'll see more of them throughout the season, but look how beautiful it turned out.
In this one, we're grabbing this Dollar Tree hanger from our summer collection and I. I'm going to remove the hanger. This hanger was the perfect color. Now this paper stunk, so once I peeled it off like it was the first layer, there was all this white paper. What you are going to do is take a warm bath. Rod placed it on top for about 20 minutes and then took the towel or I found that using a rough backed sponge and using circular motions completely removed the paper, this is what it looked like afterwards. it dried overnight now I'm going to take my crackle medium, this is a folk art crackle and it's specifically for chalk paint, take my chip brush and I'm going to do even layers trying not to do multiple passes over the layer that doesn't did I feel like you just want to use one brush stroke, okay, you don't want to layer them over and over again because that will ruin the crackling effect.
Now I'm going to take my Waverly cast and you can see how I'm taking it. brush and going through small, except here I have chunks there. I go through my piece. I'm not going to go over the same stroke over and over again and I love this crackled medium. You see how it works right away. I know there's Elmer's Glue I know there's a lot of other options this is just what I enjoy using so now I'm going to take those IOD stamps again and press them now when you get these stamps or have them so you know.
They only come with one set so what I like to do is put them in first and then you have to go back in so you can see. I'm setting up my a and my S again. I know they're going to fit in there because I've already done my placement beforehand to make sure they fit and then I'm going to put that ink in there and then I'm going to press them one more time and look at how sharp it is and so you can see what I'm talking about. those of you who haven't seen me use these stamps, I'm going to take out all the ones I need, so this will say Santa's magic key and I'm going to put them in my piece first, now you can see.
I placed the hook back there so I know where I can put these letters. Then I take my this which is actually a cutting mat. I'm going to take my ink. Pat it and then we'll put it on. Now I'm drinking. I have this huge one. The key set is from Amazon because when I started my wood sign business I made a bunch of these Sansa magic key signs so they are in my Amazon store if you want these keys and then I'm going to tie some ribbon on them . and you guys, I thought this magic Santa key was good for those who maybe don't like a grandma or an aunt or something that doesn't really have kids living in the house, so you don't want that kitty to look Christmassy, but I still want to bring magic into the house because you know your grandchildren, your nieces or your nephews, or even if you're a mom or dad or whatever and you don't like kitty things.
It's a great way to still bring that Christmas magic into your home, but make it look a little more mature, so I hope you enjoyed this video, be sure to check out CJ DIY.
