Disaster detail, deep cleaning a filthy/dirty Seat Altea ,barn find, how to clean a car, ASMR

Mar 31, 2024
Hello and welcome back to the channel and today we are going to work on this sia altair, it has done 211,000 miles, it is a diesel by heart, it is a 2005 model and it is an automatic, according to the thumbnail, a friend of mine paid £500 for this car , which is a bargain because

find

ing a car for under £1500 in the UK at the moment is extremely difficult, so for £500 it's a really very decent

find

, to be fair, so bought this car at a mechanic. and we believe he's been there for about six months. It still has some rubbish from the previous owners in the trunk, which will be

clean

ed shortly and it's a bit

dirty

and gross, and it's obviously not sitting in someone else's dirt, so we're just going to spend a day and a half

clean

ing this out. the best we can and improving it, as we can see from the wheel arch it just has some scratches and scrapes so we will try to fix them as best we can. but all we are trying to do here today is make an overall upgrade on this older vehicle, so initially I just sprayed the wheel and wheel arch liner with a little more cleaner for that type of job, its magic worked fired and then I put another coat, agitated the plastic wheel arch liner with a brush and washed the face of the tire and then I'm going to apply a very strong alkaline wheel cleaner.

It's obviously not acid-based, so it's a little less. aggressive that soaks in a little bit and then we use one of these stiff bristle brushes just to work in there and really try to get as much brake dust as possible. I'm using a selection of ez wheel brushes or easy wheel brushes depending on how you want to pronounce it, the first one we use on the wheel arch looks like a giant bog brush, basically a toilet brush, to say if you're outside the UK, and the second one, which is on the screens, is more of a cone shape and that's really good for going into the barrel at the back of the wheel once it's been rinsed completely.

I'm going to use some kosh kimmy um, kind of like iron wheel remover, these are the ones that are reactive, they turn purple. I'll do a little sped-up timing here so you can see that in practice this is probably left for about five minutes and then I use the Zed wheel brush again to scrub behind the wheel cylinder to remove the last of it. Kind of a nasty brake dust and junk on those wheels, as best we can, they weren't perfect in the end, but it was a noticeable improvement compared to what we started with, so with the wheels done, we can now see the rest. body work on the car, what I'm going to do first of all is spray it with a little bit more cleaner and then I'm going to use an interior

brush, it's pretty soft just to go around things like these rubber door moldings.

We're about to see that I'm going to move the wing bearing to the back as well because there's a lot of green algae literally growing there, um, and around the door handles and also around the front of the car where it has that grill with all the little cones or shapes and hexagons around the front, we'll stick the brush in there and give it a good scrubbing and just clean it all off, it's important to clean those areas while you're washing your car, I know it sounds weird if you got a little lost in the center of a panel that's not the end of the world, you could wipe it down with a cloth, not that you should miss things like that, but areas around some sort of door. seals and things you really need to wash with water to remove the real etched dirt, it's very important to do that in the washing process, so like the outside of the rubber door trim, I've used this little brush for

To get around things like this gas cap, I've also done the inside of all the doors on the vehicle, including the tailgate, and given them a good wash and then rinsed, as we'll see on camera, this particular vehicle because the customer goes. To preserve it, it's not something that's being resold or passed through the dealer, etc., opted not to clean the engine bay. His attitude was that it's an old car. I don't care, just leave it at that, so it's best not to tempt fate. In this particular vehicle we are not going to clean the engine compartment.
Some other things that I have done on this vehicle before giving it the final wash are going over it with a residue remover, that is a process that we spray all over the car and I will remove the iron filings and I also removed some of the tires and glue, so which things can get pretty stinky, so it's probably a better time to do it out here in the laundry area rather than in the shop where it may be. It smells pretty bad so the car is in the shop we can start removing some of the previous owners waste from the trunk which I think from memory was bags of dog poop and some sort of diaper wipes and a paintbrush random.
I'm also going to open the trunk here and see if you see the sticker on the left side. I'll expand on it in a minute. This gives me the code at the top, which is ls7u, which is the vehicle's paint code, so this is This will allow me to order touch-up paint for my local paint supplier, which we'll use later in the video. After that, it's just a simple case of going around the car with several small brushes and the vacuum cleaner or vac. cleaner as always they correct me and I simply give the car a good vacuum before

cleaning

the dashboard and start working on the plastics removing the dirt embedded in them, so the interior cleaner I am using is the same on all- Cleaner By the way, I was using the outside of the car, that's the green koshkami star on the outside of the car.
I was using it about five to one because it was pretty nasty. I needed it to be a little more powerful when I use it. inside the car nowadays the dilution ratio is about ten to one, uh, and it's just a simple case of how I do things: just getting one of these reasonably stiff little bristle brushes to be fair, will allow me I get in all the grains and the plastic and kind of a pattern and I just remove all the dirt and then what I use is a damp microfiber just to wipe off all the soap and residue and dirt.
I'll rinse it periodically in a nice clean bucket. of warm water to keep everything fresh and I'm a big proponent of using an airline as we see on camera uh two reasons why it's very good at destroying all the little rooted areas as we can see also getting fines random parking lots. and it also dries the surface, so if sometimes using steam cleaning is more effective but you can't actually see what you have, while the airline not only expels the dirt but also dries the plastic immediately, so anything remains embedded. you might have missed it, you can go over it again and give it a second pass, so we're about to see some slow motion footage with the airline. uh here are two reasons number one to highlight exactly how powerful the airline is and how powerful the airline is.
Well, it's just that these cup holders had some things really ingrained in there and no matter how much you back them up or try to shake them with a brush, you could be in there for quite a while now with the airline, it literally explodes. directly, which means it's very, very effective and secondly, that's why I wear a full face mask when I do the interior of a car because first of all, the airline will be releasing debris into the atmosphere, where there will be dust or pieces of garbage. and I don't want that to get on my face or in my lungs and besides, if you're cleaning cars every day of the week, constant exposure to all-purpose cleaners probably isn't the best thing for you, so it's just a safety precaution and we are Let's move on to the section that most people like the most, the removal of

dirty

seat

s, so I pre-soaked these

seat

s with an all-purpose cleaner like green star and agitated them with a brush and then I am using a chapuzi 110 kart wet. vacuum to give these seats a good clean, so first of all, on the first pass, I just go in there and suck up what I've manually scrubbed with the brush and the ik pump type sprayer and it gives me a good indication of where there's the dirtiest areas and then on the second pass I'm going to use the internal water supply of a machine and really pump as much water as needed into certain areas just to get all the kind of dirt out that had to be a little bit.
A little careful on the corner of these seats because the phone was starting to move away a little bit, so when you put the weight puller back, I was trying to lift the corner of the cushion so that it was a little bit Careful, a As these vehicles get older some of the seats start to deteriorate quite a bit so I added some pictures here of the machine so the tank on the left side of the screen is a water tank and what happens. The right side is where all the residual water is sucked out of the nozzle, so it's a small visual representation of what we've accomplished in this section.
The first bucket contains all the dirt and filters that come off the vehicle's interior plastics. and the second cube is what I removed from the seats and carpet, so currently in the UK it is around 28 degrees so it is pleasantly warm and the interior plastics have dried very quickly allowing me dress them as usual. Using Aerospace 303 is a great product, it's not the cheapest on the market but nevertheless it dries to a nice satin finish, it's not greasy and it also has a UV protector. Once I've done it, I'll do it. What I do is put the windows back on the car before I machine polish them.
It will work outside, but nevertheless, at this point it is good practice to just clean the top of the glass so you don't have that horrible thing. Tired line if someone rolls down the window and saves me having to do it later, so at 211,000 miles and 500 pounds we're definitely not going to chase paint perfection with correction, so all I've done here is go over. with a chemical cutting pad and some koshkami h9 uh compound initially, polishing that in some areas I might have gone over two or three times if there was, you know a specific spot, I thought I would try to improve and after that, went over with some rupees, one protects, the best thing about this product is that it will remove any light damage that you might get with the h9 um, it takes away the pain and it's also a sealant so it's kind of a one hit wonder that you just put on. the product does its magic and then you wipe it off and you don't have to put wax or anything on it afterwards and while I was in this area the headlights were starting to look a little blurry and with the polish I can just polish them and remove them and enhance them so I thought while it's here I could do it too so unfortunately when you order touch up paint or collect touch up paint from places like Halfords I find it can be so unpredictable um sometimes the colors aren't even remotely like they're supposed to be um that's probably because Sometimes because manufacturers change tints or different types of variations during a car's production year all the color codes, so when I get it comes from my paint supply, the match on this is pretty good to be fair , it's not something the customer expected me to do, I just thought it would ruin the overall look of the car, it just improves it a little and as a result, we moved on to the front wing.
I don't expect miracles here. I mean, there's a slit in the front spoiler, but if we just touch it up, it'll take away your view a little bit, so this car doesn't have a ton of black trim on the outside, there's a big piece around the windshield that it's kind of a focal point and it also has plastic silk covers, so I'm going to use this type of long lasting bumper coating or black trim coating just to classify. to finish that bit and once that's done I can try to clean the rest of the glass of the car and finally we'll do something with the alloy wheels too, so you'll probably ask me what color paint I use.
I use to touch things, so I use BMW Titan Silver. I think the three five four color codes off the top of my head are very good to match most alloy wheels, so things that are a little darker in color like Range Rovers or Voxels may have like a brighter type of more botanical silver, it won't match those, but most BMWs in the Volkswagen range obviously and other cars match very, very well. Also, this car obviously has plastic wheel arch liners, so I use the kosh kemi engine and also I think that's how you pronounce it um.
You can use it as an engine bay liner or for things like the plastic wheel arch liners, it's very, very good and then once the whole process is done we'll take the vehicle outside and take a look at a little bit. of before and after. and what's coming in next week's episode, soI'm very happy with how this one turned out as I say we weren't chasing perfection with it due to its age, mileage and overall condition to begin with, but it's a monumental improvement and the main thing. The thing is the car doesn't smell anymore, I mean it kind of stunk inside to be honest, when the builder's wife dropped the car off she said can we do something about the smell because it stinks in there and I said okay , that is not like that? a problem, we will make that priority so successfully, after extensively vacuuming the seats on the carpet and scrubbing all the plastics, we eliminated this type of mold in the center of the car and turned it into a pretty nice place to tidy up.
Sit back down now if you haven't subscribed, this is a good opportunity to do so because next week's episode is a real project. It's probably going to be a 30 to 35 minute video I would have thought, um, because the thing is absolutely disgusting , there was a fight on the outside and a fight on the inside, as we can see in the images, it is simply disgusting, all the seats have come out of there. It's a real project, so I even had to get involved, as well as watch it on camera and paint the outside a little, so it's worth subscribing to the channel and saying that it's already filmed.
I will be in the editing process shortly. Hopefully this will come out in the next week or two once again. Thank you very much for watching the video and see you next time.
