, and if you stick around to the end, I've got six tips waiting for you, so let's go. Dig Into This I'm Joe Evers, the fence expert. My family has been perfecting their way ofbuilding
fences for over 60 years, three generations, although there is more than one way to build a fence. I'm here to share with you our way of doing it. The first mistake could be your most expensive mistake or job and it is not locating underground utilities, you would be surprised to know how many utilities are actually buried underground around your home and the penalties could range from thousands of dollars to replace the utilities damaged or bodily injury or death if you hit a buried power line, do yourself and your checkbook a favor by locating underground utilities before building your next fence. The next mistake I see happen too often is not burying the fence post deep enough here in the Midwest, we set our posts at 2 feet to go below the frost line and to prevent the frost from pushing the fence posts up, this is very visible
when
you look at a straight line up close and the top is straight, it looks more like a go-kart. follow up, do yourself a favor, set your post at least 24 inches or higher depending on what part of the country you live in, you know, another mistake I see made frequently is using prefabricated fence panels which, unfortunately, They can be found at many home stores when you do that, you can't contour this fence to the ground, instead it would show. The steps don't really look great and it certainly doesn't look tailor-made for the garden, do yourself a favor and
make
sure the fence is built on site so they can follow whatever train your garden has, you know, the gates They are one of the most important components of a fence, how it gets in and out of your yard, they are also the number one reason for callbacks in the United States, because the posts are going to lean and twist the gate frame, simply put. they are not going to stay square, so do yourself a favor, make sure you use steel posts, steel hardware and frames, don't make the mistake of using a wooden post or frame and your door will be placed true and correct for life useful of your fence, you don't want to makemistakes
.I see contractors make a mistake all the time by not building a proper transition when going from 4 foot fans to a 6 foot high fence, they really don't. It doesn't take much extra time and effort to make the fence look much more personalized for the garden. What this contractor did was build a transition from six feet high to four feet high in an 8 foot wide section. It is a gentle and pleasant slope. it really makes this fence look custom made for the yard instead of a cookie cutter fence just purchased from a local hardware store and that's what I see a lot of times, unfortunately the six foot tall fence will end up and the four foot fence will end up high will end.
It will start without any transition here and it doesn't really make the fence look like it was built for the garden. Well, my sixth tip is a mistake I see made all the time and it doesn't stain or seal the fence. If you've invested a lot of money, building a fence involves a lot of cost, so why not make it look great for many years? By properly staining and sealing your fence, you will add years of life to that fence and years of enjoyment to your home. garden and it's really easy it's really quick and simple don't make this mistake stain and seal your next fence so whether you're building a new fence let's build a new fence avoid these top six mistakes to look as the fence expert
