DYI - Motorcycle Solar - #motorcyclecamping #offgridsolar

Mar 24, 2024
Hello everyone, it's two wheels, a great life. I am rich. I came up with a

solar

panel that will be mounted on the trailer and everything should be autonomous and mobile. I'll show you how this is installed and what it looks like. and what works, really works meanwhile stay tuned, we're going to put this together next. I'm excited to tell you about this project I'm doing for our adventure for Chris and I, as you all know. We've moved full time on our

motorcycle

s and one of the things we need to prepare or do this full time is a power supply because not only with all the craziness that's going on there, we're going to be limited. in our number of government campgrounds, so we will be able to do a lot more waste and with that in mind I came up with a

solar

panel that will be mounted on the trailer and everything must be autonomous and mobile, the only thing that cannot be moved is the solar panel itself.

We have a 100 watt solar panel that will mount on the top of the trailer rack from Bush Tech and then on the front I made this box. This box was made right here. I haven't done anything with it yet, but all of these components will fit inside this box and I've gotten to where I have about 12 feet of headroom so this purchased box can come off the front of the trailer and be placed in the shade and cooled, but let's go over what components I have, what components I have and that are included in this because I made some small adjustments because it will be contained in a box outside.

I thought it would need to cool down and a few things needed to be done, but first, the lithium phosphate battery got a lithium battery because I can use all the energy from this battery, not just half like you do with a lead-acid battery. , so I have a lithium battery that is six hundred and forty watts. I estimated 625 watt hours of battery usage. I also have a full true sine wave inverter. It is a 500 watt inverter. I don't plan on ever using the full 500 watts, but we have it. have a full sine wave inverter along some USB ports we have we also have a rhinology solar charge controller.

You need this complete solar charge controller to control the amount of energy coming from the solar panel that will be delivered and stored inside the battery. then you have to have a solar charge controller with that solar charge controller. I have the option of the optional Bluetooth accessory so I got the Bluetooth accessory so I can maintain and observe what this solar charger is doing to the battery and the power coming out of the Solar Panel I also have a temperature probe that will mount on the side of the battery so it doesn't get too hot and damage the battery with the amount of heat involved in the power coming from the solar panel through the controller on the battery.

I also decided to put a 12 volt junction in a junction box so I could run other accessories. I haven't decided what I'm going to put in this or what's going to stick out if there's going to be There's an outlet panel that sits there, but I wanted to put a fuse block in here so I can have a 12 volt supply and it can function as a charger. USB or maybe like a cigarette lighter controller, that's what I want to do on that one. One of the other things that I did is that since this box is going to be exposed to the sun and you can tell it's in the sun right now, it's still kind of hot, it's going to be hot inside this box, so what I did was order some small two inch axial fans.
I have a pair, they came as a pair, but they are 12 volt axial fans and what I'm going to do when I have this all mounted there, these are going to be mounted on the inside down on the bottom to blow air to pull air through this case and really remove that heat and try to keep that temperature low and I'm going to control it with this quick little disk, so I'm going to mount this little pressure disk in here and this pressure disk is going to close at 100 degrees and open at 85 degrees to maintain the temperature, hopefully it will maintain the temperature of this box.
It has a 50 amp fuse which is the maximum amperage that can go through this. Don't know. I want to damage this, but I have a resettable fuse that would go to the battery. I'll also show you how it's installed, what it looks like, and how it actually works when I have it all set up and prepared, ready to be drilled, you can mount a few things, we mount the cooling fan correctly, we take some mesh and cut it, We mounted it on the inside so it fits and looks a little cleaner after mounting the fan. We finished installing all the other components, so let me show you what all the components are.
This is the lithium battery. Here is a 12 volt terminal block. The fused terminal block we have is a 500 watt pure sine wave inverter. This is the solar panel. The attached controller is the Bluetooth controller, so I can see what the controller does when it's on the road or when it's at the campsite. This is a click that controls the 12 volt fan that will draw air through these side notches and through this to keep these components cool if it is exposed to the sun with the lid closed underneath is the axial fan to protect that axial fan or Water.
I made a little hood and riveted it there with an old plate, this wire. Connects to solar panel and untangles. I have about 10 feet, maybe it's mounted securely here with the drip leg and a nice grommet holding it all together. That's all that's inside the box. Now let's go back to the panel. here we are here we are getting ready to mount the solar panel we have two flat pieces of lightweight aluminum lightweight aluminum bolted to the frame here so this is free through little rubber insulated clamps insulated okay now let's talk about the panel and how it's mounted the panel It is mounted on the frame on the top of the bush tech trailer with those twenty volt imported rubber insulators mounted on the solar panel frame, the solar panel itself is HQ ST monocrystalline solar panel and it is connected by 12 wire The standing cable I ran here goes under the refrigerator and then attaches to the back of the box that has all the components.
Well, I want to show you now how the interface for Bluetooth works with this rhinology Bluetooth that we have. What I noticed right away is that when the device is disconnected, sometimes it doesn't disconnect automatically, so you have to search for the device, select it, and then confirm. If you don't do this, just leave what was there before. Now that we are connected we can go to monitoring and we can see that at the top the solar panel shows how much current passes from the solar panel to the battery, which is four point eight four point six seven, that's 63 watts of energy to put it in and then You can also see the battery, the battery charge is one hundred percent at thirteen point six volts and it's at twenty-three C, which is probably seventy-four degrees, something like that.
Someone correct me if that's not right, but it's close, so what is it doing? I'm tying these together like I would oxygen and acetylene lines. Oh, look at this sitting here in the sun, getting nice and warm and what are you here? I have air cooling through everything beautiful. Well, that's all I have for you today, maybe so, make sure you give us the thumbs up.
