Van Life Debut: Am I Too Old For This?

would be like if you sold everything? You packed only the most necessary things and drove there without a clear destination. This is basically what I've done with my

life

, but let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows so buckle up and join me as I tell you what it's really like here at 51 years old with three adult children. I have created a life that allows me to roam the world while still paying the bills. I paid and hey, sharing my YouTube adventures with you is just the icing on the cake, living in a vehicle means downsizing your life to fit into

this

compact interior.

I bought a roof rack so I could take my kayak and bike on my adventures and my backcountry gear fits there too, but forget about stretching out comfortably, so I didn't even realize how packed it was going to be. I can't actually sit down. I'm all packed up and I'm not going to say it all fits, uh, because it's pretty, pretty compacted in there, um, that's supposed to be where I sleep. My passions for traveling and camping in the countryside mix with each other like the raindrops that fall on my windows. Montana in spring is cold and rainy.

Condensation is a constant battle that makes the interior feel damp and stuffy, especially on cold nights, privacy or lack thereof is also the most important thing to me. Van life means your home is always in sight. I prefer the darkness of the forest, but I look for Wi-Fi every day to deliver my work. My days consist of waking up. Drive to a coffee shop with Wi-Fi and bathrooms, do some good freelance work, and then find my next destination and sleep. Arrangements, let's say it's not the Ritz. A foam mattress topper cut in half and folded separates my hips from the unforgiving frame of the back seat.

morning, outdoor cooking is more of a culinary challenge, but hey, where there's a will, it's possible, dinner It's my sautéed morels and some leftover fries and leftover Cowboy burger with its rugged design and legendary off-road capability, my Jeep Cherokee, takes me to places only others dream of, but the best part is the freedom it gives me. It means living life on my own terms, whether I'm camping under the stars or exploring off-the-beaten paths. A well-oiled Jeep is my faithful companion every step of the way and that feeling of sailing off into the sunset leaving nothing but a trail of dust in your wake is pure magic.
