Day 001 (Genesis 1-3)

Hello Bible readers, I'm Tara-Leigh Cobble and I'm your host of The Bible Recap. It's the first day and I'm so excited that you're here with me for this before we start. I want to make sure we're all on the same page, literally, there are a lot of chronological plans and if you're using a different one than ours, we'll probably deviate at some point, although it could be months from now, so go ahead today. and make sure you are using the printable plan from our website thebiblerecap.com with leading slash or that you are using the Bible app to stay on track and if you are using the Bible app, make sure you are using the plan called the Bible Summary with Tara Lee Cobble has our logo as a picture today we read Genesis 1-3 if you haven't read this yet press pause on this video and go watch it first I'll still be here when you're done ready To summarize with you and alone a heads up, today's episode will be a little longer than usual because we have to set up a lot of what's happening.

Here, each day, I will begin with the goal of giving you a high-level view of where we are. In The Metanarrative, if you're not familiar with the word metanarrative, that just means the overall story, there are many stories in these 66 books of the Bible, but they all work together to tell one big story which is the metanarrative, so today we'll zoom out and then each day we'll zoom in and I'll give specific details about what stood out to me in that day's reading. At the end we will have a section called the photo of God where we will look at the image or snapshot. of God's character from that day's reading, the attribute of God that stands out to me and that I reference in this section may be totally different than yours and that's okay, this is a multi-layered book, so don't expect May we all notice it. the same things every time by the way in our photo of God we are not looking for our point of application this is not your to-do list the photo guide is what you see about God what he loves what he hates what he does what motivates him to do what he does, we are looking for, that's why we call it God's shot, not me's shot.

This can be challenging at first because many of us are used to looking for ourselves in the Scriptures instead of God and some days will be more difficult. find the shot god than others, but keep looking for him, he is on every page as we begin our chronological plan, we will be in Genesis for the first few days, then we will move on to the Book of Job before returning to Genesis to finish it because we are reading the things in the order in which they happened. By the way, you can find all the links that I mentioned in these videos on our website at thebiblerecap.com slash links well, let's start with today's summary in our reading we cover the creation of the world and humanity by God, so Like the fall of man, it is important to note that Genesis has historically been considered a book of the law, this is how Jesus refers to it, it is not a book of science or even a book of history, although it tells us a lot. about the story, this book is 100 true, but it's not always 100 literal, for example, when Jesus calls someone a dog it doesn't mean they're a dog, you probably want to know which is which when it's literal when it's general when it's allegorical, so If you have difficulty with that I suggest you get a study Bible. so you can dig a little deeper into these things, all of which is to say that it's important to keep our scientific conclusions or opinions with an open hand regardless of what you believe, and honestly, it's even important to keep our questions with an open hand because this book It is not necessarily here to answer them it is here to reveal God to us part of today's reading is a good demonstration that in Genesis 1 13-19 we read about the six days of creation some people believe that the order is exact but that The days were long periods of time that probably lasted tens of thousands of years.

This is called the day-age theory and many ancient Earth creationists believe it. Those are people who believe that God created the Earth and in the order that Genesis describes, but that it was done over a longer period of time. timeline of what appears to be given here Young Earth creationists believe that God created the Earth and that the timeline given in Genesis is literal. The people I love and respect are on both sides. What is clear from the Scriptures is that God created none of this was an accident with my With an open hand, I am inclined to think that these six days of creation are literal or allegorical, but that they could not simply be a reductive general summary.

Here's why plants were created on day three and the sun on day four, if The Day Age Theory was correct, this would mean that plants were on Earth for tens of thousands of years without sunlight, which would mean that plants were on Earth for tens of thousands of years without sunlight. God the Father gave the command of creation. The New Testament tells us that God the son is the one who did the manual work of creating things in response to the father's command. meanwhile, God the spirit hovered over creation sustaining and approving it, they all work together towards the same goal because they are the same God the Trinity can be confusing and we will discuss more about the three persons of the Trinity as we go. Scripture, but I just know that God the son was there in the beginning. Jesus did not simply appear on the scene when he was born in the New Testament.

Poor God the son once took the name Jesus, existed in perfect unity with God the father and God the spirit, has been here all along, exists eternally and not only was he not created, but he made everything, right after From receiving this nod to the Trinity, we see something important happening, but you will only notice it if you read with your eyes, if you read with your ears, that's not a problem, but you wouldn't have caught this, so take a look at Genesis 2 4. See how the word Lord is capitalized? Here's a breakdown of what that means and how it's different from when we see it written with a capital L and lowercase ORD and when we see it with a lowercase L O R D, lowercase L O R D can refer to humans, anyone who is in charge of something like your landlord For example, uppercase L lowercase ORD means Adonai, which is the Hebrew word. for master, the person who is in charge, but it is capitalized because it refers to a real name of God, not just a general term, one of his real names is Master, but when you see all the capital letters, sir, how we do it in chapters two and three, that represents this. unpronounceable Hebrew word was spelled y-h-w-h   you can't really pronounce it because it doesn't have vowels, it's like the names of hockey players, but   when people try to pronounce it it comes out something like Yahweh or Jehovah, this is the personal name of God and by saying we he shows his name even though we can't really pronounce it from the beginning, he shows us how personal he wants to be with his creation, he doesn't distinguish himself as someone who can't be known or spoken to, he tells humanity the name he wants. to be known even though that does not lower it to our level.

I have heard that the Jewish scribes who wrote the Scrolls of Scripture had such respect for God's name that they got a new PIN every time they had to write. his name and then just using it to write his name we live in a gosh culture that doesn't think much of God's name and I think we could learn a few things from how much respect the ancient Jews had for God's name. One of the great things about a sovereign God who was outside of time is that nothing surprises or disconcerts him, which is why when Adam and Eve sinned it did not frustrate his plan.

His plan accounted for his sin in 217, he tells them. The day you eat from the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil you will surely die, he did not say whether it implies a certainty that it will happen, when this happens you will surely die, the rest of the Scriptures support this by letting us know. That God wasn't relegated to plan B after they ate the fruit, he was always part of plan A when Eve questions God's goodness and buys the lie that God is hiding from her and decides that she would be a better God, which of course true that is at the heart of every sin that you and I commit, that is when the fall of humanity occurs, there is a fracture in the world and it is still fracturing, not only do we continue to believe the same lies that they believed, but the curses that were pronounced upon them still resonate in our world today in 316 the curse says that Eve's desire would be to control and rule Adam, we still see this tension today, women tend towards control and men tend towards passivity .

I heard a quote attributed to C.S Lewis that says that hell is a place where all the pots are boiling and all the milk is spoiled and a man's job is to do something about it and a woman's job is to do nothing about it. Regarding now obviously that is not true, it is just an illustration that points out the fallen nature that affects both genders equally. but this is what I love about God and this is where I saw my God photographed for today.
