Beyond Paint the miracle paint?

Jun 05, 2021
In today's video we will look at a product from Home Depot's seed program called Beyond Paint. It's an all-in-one that bonds primers and seals and requires no stripping, sanding or priming, and who can argue with that, that's a great thing. If it really works, then what I have here is two identical pieces of wood, we'll sand one, leave the other as is, apply the

paint

to both and see if this doesn't require priming. and if you do the sealing and if we don't need the sand because who wants to sing, then let's get to work, we'll just sand this board and we'll leave this one alone, you can notice there's a shiny spot here. and we're not going to address this either because it's supposed to take care of that so we're going to find out because now we're about to open the product we take off the lid the instructions on the label don't say anything about it mixing the

paint

um I've never seen paint with paper of aluminum, so we go to peel it and the aluminum foil reveals that there is a plastic film that needs to be peeled off.

I have an exact knife. I have a pair of gloves. So now the question is mine. My wife and I have been wondering if we should mix this up, so I have a stick here. It's a pretty thick material, it doesn't look like it needs mixing because I don't see any change in color or consistency as I go to the bottom of the container, which is probably why they don't tell us to mix the paint, let's pour a little of this in a pan. It is recommended to spread this rather than brushing, unless it is in crevices and then a brush would be a viable solution.

I'm practically sliding instead of rolling. It's very thick oh man so we still have a problem where the roller just wants to slide instead of paddle and the trick I'm finding. Do you literally just place the roller on the surface and let the roller dispense the paint and spread? There is no downward pressure. If you look at this hand, that's basically what I'm doing. I'm just guiding the roller and it gives you a kind of dimpled finish and maybe it flattens out, we don't know yet, but if we try to push the roller it just smears the paint.

Now we are going to try board number two and this is our unsanded board, one coat will definitely do the trick. cover, which is rare with paint, I mean normally you would need a primer to go from a material that dark to something that light. Here you see that little shiny piece that is being covered and that will be a real test of the adhesion of this paint. The smell that comes out of the paint is really nice so it has very low VOCs and again it looks dimpled but we'll see if it settles as it dries.

It takes between two and four hours to dry before we can apply a second coat. It takes about 30 days to cure and is supposedly almost bulletproof when it's actually done, a few minutes after applying our first coat we can see some discoloration as it dries and using a brush we found that this material It applies quite easily and seems to be really working. good job with one coat covering after two hours the finish is semi flat it feels bumpy that's not a word you know it has texture you can see the difference between the first coat and now the second coat to the point of hiding us .
I don't see anything coming through it, except maybe on the edges where we didn't get enough paint, but it certainly could be an acceptable one coat application. The container recommends two, so we're going to use two and this time because there's this texture to Actually, the roller moves much easier and doesn't tend to slide. Sanded and none sanded at this point looks identical 24 hours after applying two coats, we can't tell the difference between sanded and unsanded. It has a very pleasant, soft and semi-glossy color. It's almost flat but not quite, the roller has given it a textured feel which you can probably see in this video, which we really liked.
We realized that when you paint you can get a very smooth finish. so I think depending on the type of roller you can get a flat feel. The paint is very thick, it covers practically with a single coat, but we did two coats because that is what is recommended to dry for two to four hours, seven days to adhere to the material and then 30 days to cure, so it is a process long, but I think if you are doing projects like this and the ones listed on the container, then you won't have to deal with sanding or priming, and while this can be over a hundred dollars a gallon for projects like this, quartz in abundance, you can make a lot of material, some of the things you can paint with this include wood, linoleum, glass, laminates, plastic varnish, tiles, masonry, metal and painted surfaces, like I said, you wouldn't want to paint. a wall with this because it is too expensive, but for the items listed, some of which can be really difficult, this is a pretty good product.
In fact, I'm quite impressed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a cable to do small projects like this, another great thing about the product is that it is now easy to clean. If you look at this brush, we used it twice and normally when you use it like latex, you'll still have little bits of latex dye everywhere and this brush is back to its original state. I had used it for other projects, but it literally took water and that's it. I usually had a little soap on it and as soon as the water hit it all the paint came off, same with the roller so cleanup is super. super easy, which is pretty amazing considering it's a very thick product and sticks super to anything you paint it on.
