NASCAR Xfinity Full Race Repay from Watkins Glen

Mar 12, 2024
Eric, let's take a lap around this

race

track to the first terminus, a lot of mistakes on this corner due to the downhill braking zone. You'll also see guys running wide on this turn, but it's all paved just trying to get back on line. here, in essence, it is very difficult to get to the s, it is really very important, a good line, a car with good handling to position yourself at the entrance of the bus stop is really very important, so getting here with speed and acceleration will prepare you. for those passes in the bus stop braking zone, so go down this long right towards that braking zone, okay, a lot of overtaking towards the bus stop, a lot of guys trying to get their bearings, we'll run through there side by side of the other. that's going to end in tears, then through the carousel, a big long wide corner, trying to get through here fast for this exit is really important, there's a lot of wide space to run there too, yes, yes, you'll see a lot of people use everything. from that track until you reach the guardrail, then turn six to the right side of the road, turn left, get on those flaps on the left side and then turn seven, this is a curve coming straight ahead.

It will give me a great opportunity at the end of the lap to overtake. Energy. I wouldn't be surprised to see a pass happen on the last lap right there. Yes, not surprising at all. We have seen it before. It could be one of these guys on the front row that I'll be fighting for that victory coming into this

race

leading the field right now, as you see today's official safety car, the Toyota gr Supra, which is at the front of this field as are working in the PACE labs and we want to thank Ruoff for helping. let's bring the bat cam back, that's right, this view of the backstretch as we exit the S's and enter the infield Steve, it's amazing, oh it's so amazing, the shot is great and I'm excited to see the game of the chicken at 175 miles an hour because that's basically what it is when you're heading towards Dale Earnhardt Jr on that inner loop, that's who's going to give it and he mentioned it a couple of times in the pre-race, he used to be someone who gave it and it was a single thread, a single row.

Not anymore, these drivers will fit in too wide and I like what he just said. What are you saying? It will end in tears. What a great shot, since we can stay right at the driver's side door. Thanks again. to ruoff mortgage bring us the bat cam back and they will be part of Victory Lane here at Watkins Glen and all of the NASCAR owned tracks so ruoff mortgage Victory Lane so we welcome you and we hear Austin Cedric mention the weather potential just a real reminder, when we see the cars driving around here, you see the windshield wipers installed, lightning is a problem, you can't compete with lightning for safety in the area, but the rain is not long enough visibility is enough good enough for NASCAR to consider tracking.
nascar xfinity full race repay from watkins glen
It's safe to race in, it can be damp, it can be wet, so a little rain in the area makes the race chaotic and makes it even more confusing for the crew chiefs and drivers. Oh, that's why they pay you a lot of money. Not Steve anymore, now I just sit. here and talking about it it's like it's the best it's like yeah I'll tell you and that's the point, though you know once it rains it's up to the drivers, do you go to Range, do you go to slicks, man, I never had? To deal with that good luck for these guys, who are making their way right now to turn six, they're right in front of Jeff Burton again, we're going to go over Style radio with the broadcast, so Steve and I will have it from the turn seven. to turn one and we'll hand them off to Mike Bagley, who has the s, he'll take them through the s down the stretch and hand them off to Dale Earnhardt Jr, who'll be there at the bus stop, the interloop. and all the way through the carousel, once they go through the carousel, he'll hand it over.

Jeff Burton will take him through six and seven and right now they're hitting the green to run back into the first foreign turn of the Glen to see Ty Gibbs. in that cup 54 Harrison Burton in turn one here they come through turn number one they will continue the race downhill to turn two on the right they are side by side to take the lead you have Guyer in seventh Here comes Cedric in the 22. He simply rushes in, going to take the lead, but all the boys don't let him escape. Olgaier looks inward, that battle for the lead is heading backwards, immediately towards the braking zone of the bus stop.
Justin returns. In line he thinks better of an opportunity to pass the cars snaking their way through the bus stop so far so good. A little shaking back there with Maya Snyder, but all good, everyone makes it to the carousel. Look, Justin Algar is trying to position himself in 22. Jeff, yeah, the guys are going to try to put all kinds of pressure on that seven in that 22 car. Look in, just showing him that front bumper. Hello, I want this place in the hope that Austin Cedric will do it. Make a mistake now, you see, I'll still be on guard on the right side of the floor trying to make Ginger forced to do something he really didn't want to do.
There you have it, the turns. Glenn's 10 laps tell you Competition Yellow and I think that's why, oh, it was already an accident. It looks like this is somewhere behind six and seven. That's David Smith at 52. We see Ryan Seig's 39. He is there again. They remain green, although there is no safety problem. For these cars they are now racing again to go in the right direction. We continue as they head through the essence. Here comes Austin Cedric, also Justin Olgaier and Daniel Hamrick lead three cars that have separated at the front of the field. Cedric tries Try hard, all the boys need to grab that rear bumper and hold on before he gets too far away.
Kendrick almost looks inside car seven toward the bus stop, not close enough to make that move. As they go down to the carousel, it appears that Cedric is slowly walking away behind them. You can see from the back of Cedric's bumper. The Ford camera. You can see that Daniel Hamrick is now pressing the algar. Cinder spins into turn six. Daniel Hibbert wants to finish in second place. a win today wants to check that from a really good rider trying to move up the standings, so Cedric is in the lead at the moment, all Guyer has his hands

with himrick who is closing the gap, then there is Almondinger Haley in the five early Harrisonburg Jeff Burton Noah.
Gregson Riley Herbst and Ty Gibbs are in the top 10. Right now we're looking at that battle for second place, seventh of all is Daniel Hemrick's 18, what was a battle for the lead has now become a battle for second place, so instead of Justin Allgier continue. offensive, has to play a little defensive as they come through the tunnel here in turn three heading into turn four Cedric starts licking him Dale Jr but Justin Allgir's hands are starting to get a little

there are 18 cars Cameron charging towards the break zone us I saw him sliding quite a bit in turn one, but he makes up a lot of ground coming out of the bus stop into the carousel right on the rear bumper, car seven just a algar and then AJ Almondinger trying to get close to this battle.
Okay, he remembers that these guys don't have practice trying to fill race cars, understanding where they're good and where they're not, what they need to improve on. You want to make progress early in this career, but you don't want to put pressure on others. limit, getting in trouble, not practicing, it's a big challenge on these road courses, okay, by the way, I shot the sky there, but it's all good as long as they continue and Steve, you mentioned, uh, the competition warning coming up, obviously , it changes the strategy a lot, but No for Austin Cindric up front trying to run the fastest laps he can laugh after laugh, well, you said it when we spoke to him before as he enters turn two and climbs the essence, it's about the track editing and wants to keep it because he knows it. how dangerous can it be we have a car around we have a car on the wall here on the carousel hard against the wall it's the six Michael Munley this was his first start in the Xfinity Series and it's not going to end well for this team Caution comes in now because He is trapped in the tire barrier.
Michael was about a half lap behind the rest and he really rushed this card and you saw him come through here in the last few laps and he was out of control trying to make up a lot. of the lost time he went through the bus stop and then really overcooked the entrance to the carousel and this is obviously later in the accident, but he got really loose leaving the bus stop and lost control of the car. You could never get it back once you go over that edge where that white line is, it goes the wrong way so if you're out of control at that point you definitely won't be able to save the car for the tire barrier yeah Michael is a good one road racer, the 2020 V8 road racing series GTA champion, we talked about it just a few minutes ago without practice, the car is not familiar with this is its first race in the Xfinity series, it's just a very challenging situation For Michael, as well as all these drivers, it was so unfortunate that he found out that he is an intern on this team.
He was approved to compete. He raised the money for GoFundMe. 22 years. Done for the day. Foreigner, foreigner, nothing will ruin a business or a relationship faster than a fight over money. and in this new series Kevin O'Leary and his legal advisors are on the case, don't miss the money in court starting Wednesday, August 11 at 10 p.m. m. ET here on CNBC Steve, we've already seen a couple of issues at an already very difficult racetrack, especially for guys making their first AC start right here, Smith's 52 also spun on his first start in the Xfinity Series and drivers.
I would love to know his opinion. You know, when we talk about difficulties with road courses, it's one thing to be you. I know you can make lap time with grip, but Junior in this place is very fast and it seems like there's no room on that learning curve if you get a little crossed like we just saw, there's no room to save him, you just run. off the track, yes you are absolutely right, you got the words out of your mouth quickly, that's the problem with this racing tracker, why is it so difficult and other circuits are usually slow, curves, a lot of direction changes and and braking zones and such to keep you upside down, so when you make a mistake we'll hope you can make it up, you might spin and go a little off course, but you rarely make contact with a wall or tire barrier here.
You're going really fast all the time, one mistake, one slip can't put you over the fence pretty easily and there's not a lot of room for runoff on certain parts of this track, so once you get over that line, you're going to finish. in trouble with damage yes, they are more technical race tracks in this country as far as circuits go, no doubt about it, but nowhere do you approach the corners at this speed, you have to push the braking zones, you feel uncomfortable how far you drive into the corner because of the speed you're going and then because there's a long straight behind almost every corner you have to hit the gas almost immediately so you're always pushing the car to the limit and on the The other edge of that limit is disaster because you go very fast and it is very easy to destroy race cars.
Here it is completely different from almost all the circuits we go to. Well, let's get some updates before we go back to the green. We'll start with Dylan and Rick, you know, we always talk about AJ Allmanator when we think about college racing and his success here, but how about a shout out to his teammate Justin Haley? He rides in fifth place at the moment, the team leader of him. Alex Johnson highly praised Justin's road course racing skills and skill and said: Hi, Justin really likes these road courses. He's in a really good place mentally, he's very optimistic about this weekend and next weekend at Indy, so he's always nice when you can come somewhere. that can test your patience, sure, but it's always nice when you can come to a place and be confident, be excited to attack it, Parker, well, Dylan, and continue the conversation about what everyone was saying there about how difficult which is this place, imagine being a The rookie jumps the XV car without practice for the first time and you are in green flying conditions.
What do you want to hear from the team? I always find this so fascinating for Ty. Chris Gayle is the crew chief who entered the first two laps and started. When testing your smt data against the leaders, it tells you that you're just as fast at the bus stop, that you're only limited by the traffic in front of you, but it was literally in those first two laps that you got that information about how you were moving. . this track without ever having to practice, that 18-year-old continues to learn over and over again and nowHe has two series wins, but he's not earning points because he's not competing for the championship in the Xfinity Series.
We speak well of the lack of experience for most people. I would be worried if he wanted his first start at Daytona Road because it's an , you know, but here in the Xfinity Series the front team is pretty much the same, but they've driven like a veteran. I mean, he's in front, but I love it. This is a nice little touch. We talked about the complications of a road course, I mean, I've seen a lot of things, but I've never seen the map right in the square in the middle of the board and for people at home that's not to tell them where you're going, it's to make sure that when you give your opinion don't mix up your corner numbers because we joke before we go on air, right, Burton, Junior and I okay, hey, what do we call the last two corners? because I heard him say five different things, so I want to make sure that we are talking the same thing, yes, the same language has to go back and forth from the driver to the observer, as well as the crew chief.
Well, you can get into the headset with NASCAR scanner access for just 299 a month. You can hear. in pit strategy spotter communication, just like we were talking about crew chief calls, all you have to do is visit

.com scanner to start your subscription today, so you know we've said it a couple of times when this race was removed from the calendar last time. The year, you know, it was obviously for all the right reasons, it was an unfortunate time for the whole country in the pandemic, but it was a gut punch for me to come here, campers are crowding everywhere, I mean, a They love racing at Watkins Glen.
It's so much fun coming here and man that one really hurt me yeah well I remember when Chase Elliott got his first win and the crowd roared how loud he was when he came out of seven in front and the crowd knew he was going to get his first win in the Cup Series, everything was static in this place, well, and if you're a racing fan, I can't think of a better day of racing than tomorrow, right, we're going to have cup cars here at Glen, oh. Yeah, and then we'll go to the Indy cars in Nashville Nashville.
I've been watching some of the practices. I'm going to tell you that we are talking about young drivers, promising drivers, well, Colton Herter has directed both practices, uh, and me. Have you seen some of the cars? Not only is that track crazy technical, incredibly fast, but we're going to cross the bridge. I know, yeah, I mean, that's crazy, the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge there in Nashville, really excited about that. it's there again, they're practicing right now and they're going to compete tomorrow, that was Alex below, you're okay with driving for the chip for Nancy's races, look at this, yeah, I mean, look at that, okay, that's it brilliant.
Sorry, I've seen a lot of things, but that's an incredible shot on Bravo, to IndyCar, to the city of Nashville, to all the people, Dale Jr. I saw your name attached to this Grand Prix, a little to everyone who went necessary. put this together you and I are in Nashville to watch it yeah you know it's crazy it's so much fun so to think that they somehow sneaked through the streets is amazing so tomorrow on NBCSN of course countdown for Green for us in the cup series here. at two o'clock and running from The Glen at three and right after us will be the Nashville IndyCar Music City Grand Prix and what an interesting event it will be.
Choose on the right side of your screen Austin's white car Cinder had the option, remember there is no choice rule on road courses for the rest of the field, but for the front row you can still choose and he chose the drivers who were left, which oh, you say, oh, that's the inside, well, here Wallace. Glenn, that's outside because you go down into turn one and I really think that's the place to be because of all that exhaust space we talked about, so if something goes wrong in turn one you can bail out the remaining drivers. , there is plenty of room to get away from any kind of potential damage or catastrophe and again this race starts with two right turns, turns one and two are both right, but we still see Austin Cedric shoes that outside the line two monster cars don't say good luck.
Even though Justin makes it easy, is he preparing for the reboot again? Competition warning on lap 10. Excellent Flack back in the air, so this is this starting room that we were talking about here and you're going to see the 22. car, it only has room to go, drivers left, since everyone they stack here three wide with a net and here comes AJ Almendinger around the outside of Justin Allgyer for second Allmendinger at 16. Now it's all clear Geyer, now Olmandinger can set sail for the race. Leader Austin Cedric are stacking up side by side for fourth place as the field now crowds to the end of the backstretch.
We've seen this movie before AJ Allmendinger versus Austin Cedric arrives at the bus stop. Watch how AJ cuts the inside of that. bus stop and approaches the rear bumper Cedric on the bumper through the carousel has a spot on the corner exit remember AJ Almondinger ran the truck race today so a little added experience on top of the years he's been in here this track a Cup winner at this track AJ almondinger Austin Cinder has one of the best, he will have to hold on not only on this lap but I think for the rest of the race, so it's Cedric Allmendinger and then all the guys are among the top three.
We saw a little Veteran moving there with Almondinger. He went straight into the rear bumper through the carousel. He was able to stay away from that rear bumper and let Austin Cedric pass by, but I don't know how long that patience will last. will last with Almond Digger, let's see what happens when they enter the s. Almondinger is about two car lengths behind Austin Cedric, further back Harrison Burton goes off course as the leaders make their way into turns two, this is turn three and right now the lead is stabilized put that at about three car lengths , the lead for 22.
There's Harrison Burton right now, he's starting to feel some heat from Riley Herbs, that's the battle for fifth position as they head into the interlude, in fact, that tack is placed in sixth place. He came in from 15th in the field, we know he has speed, he made the top 10 with ease and got back to the front here. Cedric has just a couple of car leaks on AJ Councilor Austin Cedric's 16 using lines a little higher than that. Carousel that shows at the end JJ armed or Cinder thinking that this will help him go down this straight six.
Remember at the beginning of this race. The drivers are still trying to figure out what their cars will and won't do side by side in turn seven. Here comes Gibbs Ty. Gibbs, 18, calls himself Harrison Burton and takes that spot away from him, so now Ty Gibbs in attack mode moves one spot closer to the front and slides in there a little while slowing down and actually doing he downshifts and goes into turn one, but uh, the rear end comes out a little bit to burn and that allows AJ Allman Digger to catch up. He reduced it to car length as they climbed the hill.
Digger drops towards the drivers on the left in turn three, giving him a little more speed. He is now evaluating his options. What is he going to do? He will look at drivers to the right. Focused, he closes the block. Dinger looks to the driver's left, but he can't find the position. They will continue to the bus stop once again. AJ Seaman to get through. That change of direction is much better, but here in the Centric carousel it is much more comfortable, able to maintain that advantage with an aluminum diamond in the center of the curve for corner exit.
I'm very interested in watching the drivers navigate the carousel running on different lines trying to figure out what it will be. do the best job for them, this general grip, this race also continues and also AJ Almondinger thought he was going to take a look right there, the last move not quite right on Cedric's rear bumper, listen to Into His Radio down there, Jeff When it happens. Next time I come down, Lenny, tell him, I said, I remember the plan, remember plan 16, communication that we saw, we just heard Chris Rice, right there he said, calm down, calm down, this is the yellow competition and that's what Chris Rice, who basically directs everyone.
At the university, what makes a good job is that he is on the second channel talking to the other team leaders. He does a great job of leading the organization not only during the week, but he has so much racing experience here at the track that they like young crew chiefs. and that's because they have someone like Chris Rice who can help them as a mentor and there's no better time to learn than at work, so he was the one who trained the Mama Fingers team. He knows how fast he is on that 16 and has a great relationship with Almondinger.
Those two communicate all the time. He knows that coming into this race, Allman Dinger is the favorite and he doesn't want him to know it. He maybe he loses his mind a little bit early in this race because he's very early in this race and he knows he's going. to be competitive at the end of this race, so now the question is what is that correct plan, since we are on lap 10 or we complete 10 laps on lap 11, here Pit Road will be open but the fuel window is 32- ish 33- First, you have to run this backwards, which means you take the final 82 laps, go back as far as you can, hit Pit Road, and then if you go back another fuel run, you still have four or five left.
You have laps left on fuel, so the question is: do you stop here? And if you do, you stop here. Do you just go back and in a few more laps just for gas? How do you do something like what I call a puzzle? This is the first step, right? This is the first step, the pieces are arranged in front of you, what pieces you want to put in place, you see it here. There are no helmets on the seven pit teams, it seems they are not even considering coming to Pit Road, other teams. up and down Pit Road looks like they're warming up so you say do it the other way around.
I'll try to do the math right and check it, but you said 32 laps, so 82 minus 32 comes to lap 50. 32 from that lap 18. but you said it could be 32 or 33 laps, so it could be 16 to 18, it could be the first stop where they could make one more stop and gain a little more mileage under yellow and you know. You're going to have some cautions at the end of the stage, so maybe open the pit window on lap 14, but either way there are three of us, you know, three laps, oh three laps, well that's 10 more months or less, so it's a long road, yeah, you know, and you know, I know some mileage races can be tricky sometimes, but it's part of the sport that you have to accept if you're a racing driver, if you're not willing to save fuel and Conf serve fuel, it's going to be a long day and as the leaders see this is not in their fuel window so even though the competition yellow flag is here they won't come to Pit Road because it doesn't help them to interrupt the race. differently so many are staying at the racetracks in fact it seems like maybe only one is making the decision to come to Pit Road foreigner foreigner thank you welcome back to 200 peanut butter whiskey coverage from Watkins Glen again doing this style radio so delivering it on each of the different curves and turns here in Watkins so Glenn Steve I know you've been watching that radar very closely yeah we had a little lightning delay before , but now it seems that only a few storms are approaching. and not that heavy, just a light rain that is enough to wet the track, these teams will have to decide what they are going to do with the tires as we try to finish this first stage, so it is one more wrinkle in the plan, they have rain tires available again, it's Austin Cedric AJ Allmendinger almondinger's on the inside as they enter turn number one.
Cedric will be on the outside, side by side, door to door as they dive into turn number one, two, 99. He turned around right here in front of us Rick, we see Tilly, who is another driver who does his first start in the with Austin Cedric getting the lead from AJ Omendinger or Digger looks at the drivers towards the interlude, it looks like Cedric is going to lead. that car carries that lead into the interlude, we've seen it time and time again how AJ's 16 changes direction and you see it again when he pressures Cedric on the carousel.
Car 16 looks great so far. I agree. during car 16, the really smooth car doesn't move much, plus Cedric is pushing his car, look at the Gap. Austin Cedric won that onechicane and now Hamrick, looking at Alma Dinger, the leader enters the last turn here, the 22nd of centric, let's take a Look back, Kyle Tilly, on the top of the type 99, you will see that it moves to the right, unfortunately , there's another car there, some contact, you try to save it, you turn and there you see that the Mills five really have nowhere to go, quite a strong contact towards the front. of both cars were able to continue and now we have another car that turned on the 26th on the right, a seven year old boy from Wexford, Pennsylvania, Chris Wright turned around.
Rick action everywhere, let's take a look at this, right here it looks like, oh, there's just contact. and these are some of the issues that move from right to left and that's in front of Jeff Burton six and seven. You know, they go over the driver on the right curve and then they have to go back over the driver on the left to go around the curve again and get back to the inner loop here. 54 car Ty Gibbs pushing Justin Algar's seven, so I guess it looks like maybe he has the best car coming into this race, which 54 has won three of the four road course races this year, if I give you, it's been fast in everything you sat on. this year I ran into Harker's race yesterday, I literally had a problem and ended up not winning, but that cheat time, that experience of playing it paid off right now, he was in that experience, so he's a racer really good route.
Young drivers showing what can make it happen. At this point, Himrick, just ahead of the 18-year-old Hamrick, has closed the gap on Almondinger, so Hamrick, looking strong here, looks in as they enter turn one, but can't be close enough. close to challenge that position while Almond Digger holds. We move on to the Second Battle for the second Almandinger at 16. You have Hamrick at 18, a private battle now. Everyone is trying to catch Austin Cedric at 22, but right now it's Daniel Hendrick who is going full steam ahead. AJ Omendinger's rear bumper. They're competing for second and third place and here's Hamrick, he's starting to feel a little itchy. he looks in as they head to the end of the next track, he tries the braking zone right there, he just can't put any pressure on AJ.
AJ puts it on the inside track here and AJ pulls the 18 car away. You've got more on that Parker. Alright, 18, Dale Hamrick is actually very happy with the car, but he had a lot of problems with the radio at the beginning of the race. Dave Rogers, as the crew chief, couldn't hear Daniel, which I think sometimes Steve could be a good thing, but then he. they changed the radios and they're still running laps under the cautions checking the radios on the 18, but for Daniel right now, as you can see, he's got a fast 18 car and he's focused on trying to get AJ to the Rick, this track is so big that is difficult. to know if you have problems with the radio because even with a good radio it is difficult to hear your driver on the backstretch if you are here on the frontstretch in the pit box, so communication is the key, but somewhere where you are.
You're just hoping to make a couple of pit stops, a miscommunication could really be the end of your chances of winning a race. Watch Almond Dinger. Observe Henrik. Henrik is being very patient so far. He's not putting that car in a bad place, but he also has a bad corner. right there and that's going to cost him about three car links, maybe even four, while at the same time you have an almond wrath starting to back away from him and trying to track down Cedric Dale Jr., lots of drivers with lots of options and different agendas, right?
Now you can see how one small mistake can make you miss eight or ten car links. All of these guys up front have great pace in their cars, but they have to be close to perfect to gain ground on each other. You see AJ trying to get closer. on Cedric Cedric just running very easy laps AJ doing lap time, although this lap is a better lap Dylan, you got something about AJ right, it was interesting Jeff just looking at him a lap or so ago when he went through the s, he had appeared on the radio and said I'm really free through the s, you see him with a little bit of power slipping in the corner, but then he came back and said the car is fine, don't change anything when we go down, so I was wondering if he was Rick.
I'm going to be able to take advantage of that, but it seems like the longer the race goes on, this 16 car starts to stabilize a little bit, gets stuck on the track a little more, and AJ starts running down the race leader, Austin Cindric. again Parker and then the driver he is trying to catch is the Austin Surgery team. He may notice that it maybe gives a little in the braking zones. He recently went on the radio and complained about wheel hopping on that car, meaning the rear tires jump as it goes. in the brake zone of turn one at the bus stop, now I did a great run outside the s there where you mentioned AJ is a little loose, but AJ is definitely making some time in the brake zone, yeah, from my bag right here at the bus stop.
The wind has increased tremendously and the temperature is dropping. We have rain right on the horizon heading into this race. It's going to throw a curveball at these teams about what they need to do. The scissor lift win report is yes, you are chosen. I get up a lot, but I feel like I've been a rocking chair right now. I'm talking about that wheel jump with Cedric, which is something that will be difficult to fix in this race. The only thing Henry from Austin can do is adjust the brake bias. He puts on more front brake, but that takes braking pressure off the whole car, so that will cost him later in the race.
It's a great question, since we arrived with free time. I expect Pit Road to be busy in this two-stop window. here you want to pit before the yellow, you know the stage is yellow, but with this potential rain that could cause a yellow even before, we see two cars arrive at Pit Road, the centric leader Dylan continued, the seven of all the boys in it. Challenged from inside the top five, he simply reported during the course of that race that Carr was a little tight and the left turn is dumping on the rear tires for the car's transition through the corners, four tires and fuel. to everyone, boy or parker to Ty, he's been very quiet on the radio since that update about how good it was at the bus stop, the team hasn't said much, hasn't said much, since they came here on Pit Road trying to turn On this stage, but obviously it was very fast and the laps went until the end of the stage and a reminder, two laps before the end of the stage they closed Pit Road, so the guys who want to enter if they can make it to the Pit.
Way before the leader reaches the finish line, they will want to get to Pit Road, so Austin Cedric is in control of this now because if he chooses to stay on the track he will close Pit Road to everyone else if he turns left. right. Pit Road, which then opens the opportunity for Almondinger, opens the opportunity for Hemrick, so let's see what the 22 will do. He could stay on the track like he does because that playoff point is awarded for winning this stage, so Syndrick says no, forget this strategy. I'm going to stay on the track.
I'm going to try to win this game to get a tiebreaker point to close the Pit Road. Austin Cedric is in front. Almondinger runs second as Himrick in the third three-car breakaway, now through turn one into the right hander. two and now these drivers have the comfort of not being pressured to be overtaken by someone else, they have some space to work on the track to get to the end of this stage. Austin Cedrics did a great job holding his lead as did Dinger. and Emrick have done a good job holding on to second and third place.
I'm pretty impressed with the fact that AJ was able to hold on here with his 22. It seemed like the 16 car didn't like the cycle. Look at him sliding that car and abusing those rear tires. There are only a few laps left in this stage to give it everything it has, maybe an important part right now is to push that car as hard as you can to find out what won't go well, that way you can communicate when it does. You do, pit crew chief. I need a change and this is what I need, the only way to learn is to push it, find out what it won't do.
You see slower traffic versus the 22, they'll basically get the next one at this stage. Will this slow traffic disrupt your rhythm? It looks like he's going to clear it pretty easily in turn one. Kyle Tilly in '99 and saw him sideways on the last restart and was able to push him back once again. There is that gap. over the five car gap between Cedric and Almending and then you have Kyle Tilly's lap car there and now you have Daniel Hemrick in third to make that climb and Crest turns three quickly turns to the right, which is turn four which takes the group back immediately and Austin Centrix is in command in this race as we approach the end of the first stage.
Austin heads to the bus stop and starts to feel some drops of light here on the carousel. these cars are navigating the last few corners of stage one, they see AJ rolling around the bottom of the carousel trying to reduce power on corner exit at this point in the race coming into the stage and it's just about not making mistakes one mistake, the team kept you out. a reason, take advantage of it, get these points, get this playoff point, advance to the playoffs, that's a goal right now, yeah, and remember, the winner of the regular season gets 15. playoff points, so that's it something huge and Austin Cedric will grab it. the win, his eighth stage win of 2021, is the most of any driver, Allman Dinger in second, we saw Daniel Hamrick cross the line there in third again, top 10 in the stage, all got points, what we learned there is that we knew who Cedric was going to be. one of the favorites coming in, but not a huge favorite by any means Almondinger could keep Pace Hamrick could keep Pace Ty Gibbs, who has pitted, could keep Pace.
It's going to be an exciting race, it's the end of the first stage and it was an eventful stage. one of some of the rookies fighting on this road course, but not for Austin Cedric foreigner foreigner final of the first stage of the Xfinity series and Steve I mentioned before when you come to Watkins Glen you always remember that first victory of Chase Elliott's career in the cup series, a big win for him, then he goes on and wins the championship last year, actually Dale Jr was with him and spent time with him and Peacock has a special on Chase and winning that championship along the way that he is now, here's a sign that you would run second and say I let everyone down.
I did it. I know I didn't do a good enough job that second time to go back, probably some of the worst reboots you could have had would have to be. able to solve it, do you still feel so much failure and pressure? Do you know if something was in my hands and it was directly my fault? Kyle Woods is going to pass him for the lead. I remember being the first to get to the car. I did not do it. I even know what to say you're going to beat this you're going to win hold on to the time at Watkins Glen Bill Elliott looking for Chase through the inner loop watched him run those last few laps you're a nervous dad you just can't put into words 'cause you know, you know all the things that they can pass.
I had a tough race and when I passed by I realized his engine was off and I thought, man, this is no way to celebrate your first race. I got my man Jimmy Jam. Coming to that is a cool victory lap right there to see Chase with that smile, I was personally very proud, yeah I'm looking forward to this one hour documentary for Chase on Peacock, we'll be able to learn a lot more about him as it starts to open up to us after he has won his championship in all his races. I certainly enjoyed sitting down and talking to him.
It was a lot of fun for you guys to watch, so I have field heading into turn six and seven, we should see a lot. These guys will be coming to Pit Road here soon. I think most of them will come to Pit Road. Dylan and AJ Almondinger, one of those cars you see there in the 16, will break away from the second position team and tell you to stop shorting your box here. Make sure you give us a nice clean exit. His report now is that the car is actually a little tight, so since all these tires have gone through the three or four races we've had, it's gone from loose to fine now it's a little comfortable. behind the wheels at 16.
More Goodyears on Sunoco fuel for Almondinger Parker right now remember these pit stops are on the right, it's a little awkward for the crews and drivers Dale Hamrick struggles a little with rear grip at the end of that race as Goodyear tires support him and then Austin's center leader at the bottom of the screen, he'll do four, his tires still struggling with that wheel hop issue in turn one and the bus stopping late on that journey, so theThe team will do an Air Pressure Adjustment to try and help him and it looks like it will be a close race to the end of Pit Road.
Omnicer got the race off Pitt Road and wins that spot. Cinderus will come out right behind him. Rick third. against Jeff Burton, but remember a lot of cars were going to be out for this stop, too foreign, thank you, foreigner, foreigner, getting ready for the Watkins Glen Peanut Butter Whiskey 200 restart and it looks like Steve had something on the track , Yeah. Right up there I'll tell you it looks like an axle, yeah, something that's big and in the road, although a car just hit it, I can't tell what it is, yeah, a couple of guys hit it, yeah, that's what I don't .
It looks like a crash, I was able to confirm it's a hub, so it's turn seven and Nascar added a lap, they said we can't go yet, obviously, they may have seen the same thing we just saw, well I can assure you one. thing, someone Out there your day is over because you're not going to move with an axle not far away or very fast cars that have reached Pit Road maybe it's one of those yeah, that's what I was thinking as I look out the window. The 99 doesn't seem to have a problem here, but the 66 may be on Pit Road and the 36 is running slow, so I don't know where it came from.
Yeah, they're just filling the 66 right now. I have a little bit of time and we're actually coming off two weeks off, so what would you do if you had two weeks off? Well, Brandon Brown decided to spend a little time, maybe at the lake, enjoy a little time with friends. family, how about Tommy Joe Martin is doing the same enjoying some family time at the beach? I'm not sure you need to bring the fish closer, yeah you have to hold the fish closer which is what I think Harrison Burton did here, check this out, that fish really jumped, he told me about the whole boat, well both types they use real and Rod Jeffrey Earnhardt says: I don't know why they're wasting their time with that.
I just stick my hand in these muddy holes and pick out some catfish, noodles, noodles, no chance, zero chance, Rick, you're not going to stick your hand in. dark, muddy water and I don't know if you can catch them jumping in a dark, muddy lake so I don't want anything to do with it so we said someone would eventually show up missing the part and the piece well here you go. I want to take a look, I think this is car 36, yeah, Alex, you see it sliding across the top of your screen, like in this area right here, it comes out, so it's a great NASCAR shot and then you see On the side. left now oil is coming out, so Jeff, that's not what you're looking for Alex.Labay no, it's not like you said the car just doesn't accelerate well.
I want to go straight with only one axle. I'm really curious, Steve, you're the crew chief, the front row, Harrison Burton, Brandon Jones, they were left out, right? I'm a driver there, I'm not supposed to know strategy, but I don't really understand what the plan would be here, well, I think they're playing with their hopes, we keep talking about rain, well, rain it is. It's kind of a reset, Rick, because if it rains, there are live pit stops and everyone has to come to Pit Road to put on rain tires so that then you can fill your gas tank, maintain your position on the track, look like a hero, the problem. is that when you see this rain coming, it kind of stops, so unfortunately for the 20th and 19th, if they don't get this rain, I think they are in a bad position when you look at the rest of the field just because everyone behind They have stopped at least once meaning they only need one more stop to finish the race, so Super will head to Pit Road leaving the field back in the hands of Harrison Burton and Brandon Jones while we get ready. for the restart and the start of stage two and this is going to be very excited with Cedric and all the Almond Digger deeper into the field, we see here three wide right away with the seven a little contact there as Ty Gibbs goes to slide. came out after he got stuck going through turn one on 23. and everyone is trying to fix it Harrison Burns tried to fix the problem, he will die inside Brandon Jones at the entrance to turn three and they are all piled up behind him, he got to Jones in 19. got Harrison Burton in 20 and watch out, here comes Ty Gibbs in 54.
Ty Gibbs in second trying to pass there, as well as Maya Snyder in her first start here at Watkins Glen Maya is there in fourth position with a lot of patience. She awaits her chance to try to get around Harrison Burton's number 20 car on older tires. You see them turning on that long carousel that goes down behind them immediately to turn six. Good race by Harrison. Burton outside that carousel looking at Ty Gibbs having second thoughts Brandon Jones doing a good job right now Hometown turns his head to the front immediately you see on the left side Brandon Jones there is no number next to his name because he still gets to Pit Road on that 19.
The 54. Ty gives the impression that the inside was last on the Road pair on the 17. He was one of those teams that stopped before the stage, so he has new tires on this car that makes it work like him. He continues to fight the 19 into turn one and darts to the inside of one and the 54 Gibbs had the preferred lane, he's going to take the lead behind him. Daniel Hamrick is around, everyone spreads out to avoid entering the exit area towards the drivers on the right. quickly corrects the race car but is going to lose a lot of spots now has to regroup as the leaders head down the backstretch in the interlude Ty Gibbs pulling away from Harrison Harrison Burton rounds Brandon Jones' 19 behind him Justin Algeier's seven pass two cars so Maya Snyder is now under pressure from Austin Dillon's 23rd and then AJ Almendinger behind Austin puts pressure on Austin and AJ Almending is also a new seat tired algon right there pushing Brandon Jones algar in good The tires are going to get under Brando Brandon, good job going into turn six trying to get there last time, we saw that.
Rick turned around and let's take another look when they come to turn one, he was in 12th position. A little help from the eight, yes, Sam Mayer, just with too deep front tires locked, you saw Noah trying to get close to the rear bumper and also goes into the right rear of the 18. Great work by Daniel Hamrick, a little Joey Chitwood. stunt driving speed here, kind of turn and go, this will be a good look on board, oh you saw it, both eight and nine had their front tires locked. Daniel Hamrick doesn't care, it's a mistake, he ends up back, back, forward. field heading to the bus stop seven cars trying to get around this 19 by Brandon Jones Brennan Jones slowing it down a little bit, but as we run these laps those tires are going to even out, so Justin tries to take advantage of that while he can talk about the track. experience on how the drivers had run in other races this weekend, but Brandon Jones in that number 19 car ran the rocker race yesterday and also on his week off he went and did some testing on circuits that you see on the finger in the part back of my Maya Snyder.
Cinder, trying to get past him, notes that Almondinger was still able to stay in front of Cinder, side by side, and spin seven tires trying to make that move on the outside, and Jones is trying to stop him again. Brandon Jones didn't. I'm not coming to Pit Road with those old tires still trying to get it going, but all the guys trying to make that pass while working on the high side in turn one, here comes Alvin Digger behind him and all the Guyers will take out the guys. pilots left here. Almond's wrath comes, he's trying to direct drivers to the right and Brandon Jones is stuck in the middle, all Guyer's going to take over, but if Brandon Joe looks in the rearview mirror, he's got AJ Almendinger in full-on mode. full port pressure, they just came out of turn four.
Here's Dinger, he's examining his options. Snyder's Under Fire behind them. There is a large group of cars as they head to the interlude. Hey, let's get past 22 Wackys, by Austin Dillon, sliding across the screen and the bus stop in that 23 car. Trying to race here and get some experience up front here are my two state exit carousel curves put battle on this race hello Snyder talked about Austin Dillon Austin Dillon worked very hard to become a better road racer he ran the 24 hours At Daytona, he has other things and the results show that he has had his best year in the cup series on road courses so far So far this year, hard work is paying off, oh look, Harrison Burton's 20s turn right.
Remember that he hasn't come to Pit Road for this yet. The whole race is 29 laps, but it's also a fast lap, so you're burning fuel as you watch Almondinger continue to fight his way up the field Dylan, yes, here's Harrison Burton, so by Design, this is how they wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to achieve a stage. The points at the end of stage one, the most important report of Harrison's cars, are really tight, so he's been trying to alter the way he enters the corner just to try to self-medicate that race car with a little fuel for the 20th, as I mentioned.
I think they were hoping it would rain since here comes the 22nd. I could see Austin Cindric and AJ Allimending or Dale Jr going through traffic. It is fun. Yeah, those two definitely know their way around this track. trying to go around the car 19 Brandon Jones down on the carousel look at him getting it a little closer now Exiting the corner Jones handling it pretty well working that steering wheel you see that car moving around Brandon Jones, we talked about it several times on much older tires, they're doing a good job on one of the best road racers in all of NASCAR, what's holding him back Austin Cedric is smart, he's smooth, he knows he has a good race car, he doesn't want to make a mistake right here, ruin his day.
Again, Austin Cedric was able to win stage one and get a playoff point that you see on the left side of your screen. Cedric already has 28 playoff points. Alma is 15, all 11. Jeff Burton and Maya Snyder five each because of the wins they have and Again, Harrison Burton hasn't found Victory Lane yet, but something he's been searching for, they find their way to the s . We will stay here at Watkins Glen as we move forward. NASCAR Non-Stop foreign foreign foreign now you could go on a VIP trip. for the 2022 Daytona 500, simply visit

That would be incredible. Steve, we saw Brandon Jones' 19, he headed to Pit Road, uh, while we were on the break, unfortunately. He was in the pits again because the first trip was too fast, so it's an unfortunate mistake on the 19th and Brandon Jones is going to give up a lot of track position, another thing just to clean up. I don't think we mentioned Kyle Tinley. Number 99 was involved in that accident on the frontstretch, well, his crash clock expired before he could reach minimum speed, so he had to retire from the race, so now it's Ty Gibbs who is in front.
AJ Allmendinger is 3.1 seconds behind him, so that's it. Guyer Cindric and Maya Snyder are the top five Jeb Burton Mayor Austin Dillon Brandon Brown and Noah Gregson are in the top 10 right now watching the field approach the inside loop break zone and Ty Gibbs has a comfortable lead , but now that AJ is clear in second place, it will be good to see what kind of pace he has compared to hitting his jumps, which will bring the fight to Almondinger and Cinder today, oh Alex Labay, we saw an axle come out of this car in One point, I'm going to assume they repaired the axle.
My concern is that after the shaft came out, a lot of urine grease came out as well. See the map right there at the bottom right? It's right at the exit of turn one so either they're still having problems with the axle or maybe they didn't put oil in Rick this has burned the rear gear let's see what happens although you see the smoke this to me says the rear The gear is cooked on this 36 car, so when it came by here I could see pretty clearly that there was no axle cap on that car, the axle had come off and then all the grease, like you said, Steve came out of that back end and they continued doing run the car and I've done it before and it won't last long, it didn't and that's why it stopped and that means the yellow flag came out, that gives an advantage to anyone who knows it was.
I wonder that, so you have 49 laps left, it's not really a pit window, maybe somewhere in the back half of the field you see a small fire that was extinguished under 36. Maybe the back half of the field is trying to get a tire. The advantage is that they have a couple of extra sets of tires, but in the end I think that this caution does not change much with the strategy. I hope all the leaders stay on the track and yet the weather continues to get worse as we get really close to the eight. Mile Mark of this racecourse and those who expected itIf it rained, some of the teams that had played that strategy haven't arrived yet, so they're playing a different strategy here, as we're obviously very impressed with the 18-year-old Ty Gibbs, it really goes along with that 98, there's Ty and it's not too late, if you want to get in the game with NASCAR Fantasy Live you can create an entry by choosing five drivers plus a garage driver to compete in a new one or you can just go to existing leagues with your friends, all you have What to do is visit nascar.com.
Fantasy, if you want to start playing, okay? I really hope Dale Jr is preparing to run out of something. drivers in the last four I was hoping you wouldn't bring it up and maybe I'd forget about it, no, because there are two weeks where we're not so lucky, no, it's going pretty well, Dylan, well guys, here's a good look at Timmy Hill, who is behind the wheel of car 66 this afternoon, so one of his... one of the people in his garage today is Craig Party, who, you see, are honoring first responders. He was injured in a barn collapse in June of In 2020 they were trying to relocate a barn and, uh, Craig is from here in New York and he was trapped under the barn for an hour before he had to go to the hospital, so the team honors him here today and again he's a local guy from Seneca Falls, so it's great to have him here, standing up after what obviously could have been a really, really bad situation.
It's great to have Craig here and Timmy Hill and his team supporting and honoring Craig today by having him in the box. It's always great when teams can. Recognizing people who have done outstanding things in their lives that you don't normally hear about, but we can shine a light on those great stories of people doing heroic things, so Pit Road will be open and Steve won't. Does it help if you're not running back right now to come to Pit Road? Yeah, maybe you've got some guys in, just inside the top 10, maybe they're coming for some new tires.
I look at Austin Dillon, he was great in Pits. I walk on lap 11. The new tires might help him a little. You see Maya Snyder coming, it looks like the look looks like 10 and 11, so a couple of Colin's cars show up. Split decision on the route, most of the leaders are left out, although Dylan and good day. going by Mayan Snyder in these two cars said this was the track he was really looking forward to running his never done laps here so he's very excited about that, his last report just that the brakes felt a little spongy so that they are going to Try to correct that problem and also correct a clearance problem behind the wheel of the two cars that Justin Haley and the 11 also raced in due to cramping.
Another guy had a good career. Now he said this and I'm curious if Steve can do it. Expand on this, you said I have great forward momentum but I can't put the power down so I feel like the car is pretty good but I'm struggling to get it to engage and go behind the wheel of that 11. car yeah those They look a little strange so I don't know if he can't get the power now because it gets tight, he has a lot of forward momentum. I would have to have a follow up question on that. Rick will restart soon.
We're heading back overseas, the FedEx Cup playoffs, will be the toughest test of the three stops, but there's only one chance to make it, it's the FedEx Cup playoffs for the PGA Tours Ultimate Prize on August 19 on NBC and golf and a little update right now on peacock. The Indycar series is qualifying and they're doing it at that phenomenal circuit in Nashville, the road course there. And Jimmy Johnson wasn't a great start for him as he was in the first round of qualifying. Jimmy Johnson was actually pretty fast, wasn't he a practitioner? Steve, yeah, I hated seeing it.
Jimmy and I had a lot of conversations this year at Indy. 500 just wants to continue to see improvements, but in both practices he beat four or five drivers, so look here now that we're live, this is qualifying right on board and look at this, this is incredible, this circuit, oh come on. Crossing the bridge, I was hoping we could do this, hello quick, as Grosjean Rossi heard about the fourth Dixon, currently the fifth estate, and right there, wow, yeah, this is New Garden, we're driving fine and this is live now same in the Peacock rankings. again in the second round and we talked about the second round here at Watkins Glen, they don't want to see any second round, Street Course man, that's incredible and people have really come out for this.
What a weekend it will be! Oh no, we just saw it. Right there, the new guard gets into the wall, attacks with the right front wing, since Herta is going faster, he was the fastest in practice and this is going to interrupt a couple of laps of the pilot, you will see the damage, Joseph New Garden, which will be the end of your classification. today he has to find a place to go off the track safely, so how difficult is New Garden, who was in fifth place in this qualifying race and we see him hit the wall.
New Garden was on Dale Jr.'s download. I saw it. a couple of videos there, he was a fascinating guy, he had the coolest story I've ever seen, so his wife was a Disney princess, yeah, so if you have to look for Dale Junior download, I'm not going for it to reveal, but it was one of the coolest stories I've ever heard, he also started racing mopeds, I never heard that one either, it's the first one, it's the first for sure, and the whole race for the new guard, he's from there Yes, Nashville, we are coming.
Ready for our reboot here, take a look at what's happening again tomorrow on NBCSN. It will be the countdown for Green at two and three. We'll be racing from right here at Glen for the Cup Series and then that IndyCar. Nashville Music City Grand Prix at 5:30 after we finish here, we have a great mix here in the top four for basically a four lap race for the end of the stage. We have road course veteran AJ Almendinger lined up with the youngster. Young rookie Ty Gibbs, behind them Austin Cedric who is probably the favorite of the day in 22, and next to him the veteran and Justin Algarve, four completely different stories but very talented drivers, the elderly Almondinger is never ruled out or Justin, all Guyer, and then. you've got the young guys putting their names in the hat as well, we're radio style from here in Watkins and we got back on track like you mentioned, four laps left in the stage two Gibbs on the inside almondinger on the outside stay one side by side as they pass by one and head to the two we have a wheel here they come it's Ty Gibbs AJ Allmendinger they will lean on each other here going up the hill the diggers will swing to the inside AJ Allmendinger who I'll go to the lead who Ty hits Second and now here's Olgaier in 7th trying to get to the inside of Austin Cedric in 22.
You have to think Gibbs is going to have to rethink that lane choice if given the chance to do so. Once again the outside line has been very good into turn one and again prevails as the rest of the group make their way through the bus stop towards the carousel, look here at the front bumper, the herps trying to exert some of pressure on him. friend Noah Gretchen both Las Vegas natives fight for the lead in turn six he's not going to take it that easy he wants to win he wants to take the battle to one of the best drivers on the road The killers that are there sometimes the drivers have Kai Gibbs conceded through the s gave the position to Almondinger aged very, very intelligent.
I saw Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon be stubborn during the s one day and ruin the chances of both drivers, the young driver of the 54 Bagley. he lifted up, gave the position and made a very smart move here as we are coming to the end of this leg, we are on board with Ty Gibbs right now, he will follow almadinger for a car and a half, they hang left. -Turn three is a short straight and now the right as you come out of turn four and run down the backstretch towards Dylan Welsh, guys, you see Jeff Burton there at the bottom of the screen and we go to the left backstretch.
He pitted immediately and began pulling on the left rear fender. Now you see them putting the naked Bond on the left rear as well, so you're conscious of not missing a turn or missing too much traffic, but it's obviously a problem for the 10. It's not the birthday week that Jeff Burton turned 40 years old yesterday was his birthday, you hope to have a little more luck than he got the first win of his career earlier this year at Talladega, so he's taking advantage of that to make the playoffs, but this is definitely something that I expected. Momentum would be on his side as he was going into the last seven races before the playoffs started and Rick, we're lucky to have some great road course experts because no one leaves this field, that's what it should be about, it's great to see. almondinger here fighting but Ty Gibbs right on his shock Cedric right there with two laps to go Pit Road is now closed and the leaders are leading downhill in two almond Digger is your leader he is the car in the windshield the tie him gives Gibbs Don't let him escape Austin Cedric is starting to get into this too.
It's a good one, two, three battle with less than two laps to go here at this stage at Watkins Glen and this is the best education you could ask for. For Ty Gibbs to follow one of the best in the business at this track, this could pay off late in the race as he is starting to learn how to beat that number 16 car around some of these turns. The great Point Junior not only how to beat the 16 cars. one day but also how to do it two years from now three years from now Ty Gibbs has a great future in this sport, road racing is becoming more and more important as we move into more road racing so having the opportunity to try to hold on Austin Cedric tries to take the fight to h.j Allmendinger and he is doing it and he is doing a great job of putting pressure on the almondinger Mike Gibbs fighting now for that first place, they will meet one to finish in this second stage, can Ty Gibbs get it? around him you mentioned that you were going to race against him, all he said I'm not going to go to the Cup races, we'll call next year, stand here in the expanded series.
I want to try to win a championship at the front. Ty gives it all over the place. his rear bumper with this until the last lap of the second stage if AJ almendinger pulls this Ty Gibbs is there to capitalize here they enter the s it's almondinger in 16. Ty Gibbs in 54. Austin tendrick has closed in on 22. three The two-way battle for the lead on the last lap of this stage and AJ's omens mirrors are full of Ty gives AJ a great job of overcoming the essence to be able to protect himself in the braking zone from the stop. bus and overcome these curves. the car changes direction very well using a lot of corners to make that happen towards the carousel 54 car trying to get in here and use some of that front grip it has, closed the gap talked about the advantage that Austin Cinder got in stage one, make that play at the point without AJ Almondinger trying to match it, take that tiebreaker into the playoffs.
The point has to be contained. Ty takes two more corners. AJ Allmendinger's Christine Crying? a crossed movement inwards. Ty Gibbs trying to take. the stage wins away are door to door wide open it's a final photo Almondinger's Gonna Get It by almost milliseconds what Ty Gibbs race but a lesson from Ty Gibbs remembers it's only the end of stage two he has another stage ahead of him, six stage wins for Almondinger this season, fifth on a road course already this year, but what a race by Ty Gibbs coming out of seven Almondinger and Gibbs door to door to the initial finish line and it was that close. almondinger takes the stage win, but we still have 42 laps of racing here from the Glitch exactly foreign dollar hoodie I had a lot to eat Parker NASCAR on CNBC is presented by Credit One Bank, the official credit card of NASCAR visit gocreditone . com and by four built Ford proud Dylan it was a great battle for the lead and finally the victory there at the end of stage number two between Ty Gibbs and AJ almendinger listen to AJ's radio and where he thinks the 54 maybe just a touch better they are, you have a lot more rear bite than me, I mean he can roll with as much confidence as I like to drive the car in a straight line and if I manage to get it out, it just kind of shakes the outside rear tire and I have no grip at that moment.
I'm just trying to get through it, yeah, so it's the corner entrance where Aj feels like they're really getting beat, so pit stops coming up shortly. I'll see what kind of adjustments they make. I'll be interested to see who the pitcher is, yeah, who's coming, yeah, so there's a couple of options here. You could take tires in the pits now you think the tires are valuable, you'll want them, right? I don't want to be stuck with old tires and then have a shorter gas fill, but I thinkwill divide. You see here, all my tight wells are left out, so it's definitely not a clear cut decision for everyone. all the teams in the Road Dylan mascot and most importantly for this almond anger team AJ stress don't over tune this race car because we're not bad we're probably not the best here right now so it looks like this is going to be a air pressure adjustment, just a minor change for good years on Sunoco fuel for Allmendinger Justin, all the guys are also down there at the bottom of the screen, he was also jumping wheels at the beginning of this race, he went radio silent afterwards, quite happy with that seven.
The Parker car is fine and also out of sixth place. A great race for Riley Herbs, just a little tight in that 98 car. Here's looking to have a solid race after a rough start to this season. You see that adjustment on the four right rear Goodyear tires. Brother Herpes on his way back to the track, we'll take a short break and be right back for the restart. You enter the headset with access to the NASCAR scanner or only 299 a month, you can listen to their strategy or spider communication. even the crew chief calls, let's visit nascar.com scanner start your subscription today Steve, what do you think of Almond Dinger and the air under that car?
Hey, I like it, straight to the bus stop though, if they put big curbs there it would be slow. their lap times dropped by one second. It's incredible what these pilots do. Cedric inside. Ty Gibbs will be on the outside when we start stage three, so now, side by side, in turn one. Noah Gregson looking at that number nine in, oh my goodness. Look at this it's four wide and AJ Omendinger is right in the middle of the tigers with a strong crossover. He faces a different challenge. It was now Almendinger before the end of the stage and now he has Austin Cedric practically pushing him through the s. a little came out of the turnip, four eccentric bubbles as they race towards the interlude.
Gibbs on defense here as they enter the bus stop, but he chose correctly. I think the outside line is the way to reset if you are the control. car, puts a little distance between him and Cedric. Look at Sam Mayor there in third place fighting against 22. Sam Mayor all the way in the third lane on the carousel. He didn't know there was so much grip there, he lost. a little while, but not as much as I thought, I just had no idea they were going to be too dirty to run there. Mayor Sam, a young driver who does a good job.
Sam the bear is now applying some pressure. on Austin Cedric, who we thought would be one of the favorites, oh, a little tired, locked in there for Sam Mayer Dillon and guys, we know how talented he is, we see him rise through the grassroots ranks of NASCAR and some of the divisions of Ark and that. Of course, he ran today in the truck race here and was in the top 10 and that was the biggest thing that his crew chief, Taylor Moyer, mentioned is that he just needs laps, you know, even though he has a lot of experience in stock cars.
Being a relatively young and inexperienced driver, he just needs laps in these big Xfinity cars, so that was his mission today: just go out here and finish running all the laps and we'll see what happens and he's doing that right now. There is still a long way to go. "Come on, but he's got a very good career behind the wheel of that eight car and he's not afraid, as we've seen, to make some moves and stay in contention and he drives way over his head, but that's typical of a rookie." and the". You'll figure it out as you make these mistakes, try to get some rhythm going, see how wide it is when you miss the turn back here behind Craig's night car at 20 to 19.
Those two guys got secrets and try to work their way up. back on this field, he finally saw car nine becoming very slow during the interlude. Comparison to Burton trying to get outside of him, I think just to avoid trying to collide with him and when he did, Brandon Jones. He had a good battle under him here among all these guys, no correction, his year has changed lately, he had a very difficult start, but in a series of top ten there is a bit of calm that he didn't have at the beginning of the year. one car getting into dirt and loop here, it's all clear around here but there's a lot of dirt and debris in the middle loop right now for these leaders as they pass by watching the leaders clear a downhill in two Noah Gregson in the nine running in fourth there's Harrison Burton in 20.
Brandon Jones on the comeback trail after a penalty at Pit Row earlier this afternoon, he's worked his way back up, they're at the top of the hill right now crossing into turn four Brandon Jones in that 19 car he's racing towards sixth position but Dale Jr right in the middle of this pretty intense battle yeah everyone weaving around the bus stop here Gregson a little wide in the middle of that bus stop hole just line up, He's trying to get these corners together and clean them up a little so he can give himself a break, he looks in the mirror and sees all those cars, and that doesn't make it any easier do that, get in front of him, sound, the mayor walks away from him, so it looks like Noah Gregson is holding this line a bit, look at them all stacked up behind him, although aggression just doesn't have the speed to try and regain their positions. everyone has to be patient here while trying to avoid aggression, you know, Ty Gibbs has a one second lead on Cedric and we hear Junior say that the 78 that is Jesse Little slid in the dirt, see there's Jesse Little. his free time uh wasn't off road he was actually at Evergreen Speedway during the off weeks and his dad Chad actually gave the order to start the engines that engine might be getting a little hot Steve yeah that's a concern weed in the grill.
This is really the problem for the 78, it's pretty smooth through the grass, plenty of guys have done that trip so it was just a matter of if its engine stays cool enough because now the 20 continues to hunt the nine down the stretch butt, Parker, so Guys, I want to talk about our leader for a second. I know we've talked a little bit about the impressive job Ty Gibbs is doing, but I'm just looking at some of the numbers he had. He stopped the first of the leaders. they continually tell him to save fuel backwards at the exit of the bus stop his car is working to avoid it Maya makes the car turn around here he will return to the race track towards a carousel Dylan and Junior have had problems with the brakes He's been complaining about that a lot the last couple of laps so I'm not sure if it's related to that but he certainly had a problem slowing the car down, you see it right there he just lags the wheel a little bit. , spins the car around everyone. he's a great road racer, but I have some issues here today with these two cars, yes, Maya actually matured in the NASCAR Euro Series, where I truly believe there was only one track that wasn't a road track when he finished in Europe , so Parker you were mentioning Ty Gibbs last on Pit Road until lap 17 and they're asking him to save fuel exactly, they've been asking him if you're going to continue and he's still stretching that lead.
Steve, you're now within a second, almost a second and a half on Cedric, as he says "feel," but we're hoping to see him as one of the first cars on Pit Road, as we're looking for 35 to go at the moment. I think a lot of these teams are trying. to get as close as possible to about 30, but that's going to be tough for that 54 car to do more than 30 laps, so basically, Rick, you had this situation, Ty Gibbs, Cedric, all the guys on top of this, They are I'm going to have to carry four tires because they need a ton of fuel.
The big question for me is all terrible almondinger, but licky, you know, the guys that are further out in the field, even Jeff Burton, he was last on paper, he left 37, do you think the tires on him? they're fresh enough that they can just grab gas, just maybe make a really quick pit stop and try to get on the wall, the guy hit the tire barrier at the exit of the bus stop, that's going to set the flag yellow and Steve is that a disadvantage. For the guys you said would make it to Pit Road in about two laps, I think you're all going to have to pat your coat to come to Pit Road now that it's too close to the fuel window as Matt Mills' five has made heavy contact .
Yeah, look how it works, David Smith's 52. made a pass at the bus stop entrance in this five car, then missed the inside loop when you see the 52 there, well, come back across the track, the five by Matt Mills. makes an evasive move and I think he enters a dirty race track, he's on marbles right there and he's heading towards that tire barrier trying to avoid, so just a little bit of mixing, these guys in the back, you know, they're going to do this. There are types of mistakes here, they are trying to stay out of each other's way and trying to just complete this race, but these types of things are going to happen on the track over there.
Matt Mills' first start here at Watkins Glen goes back to what we were saying about that, how fast the track is, I mean look, that five goes completely straight and that's a big shock, yeah, yeah, it's out. From the track offline, we talk about how dirty this inner circuit gets, so much dirt and debris is thrown onto the track. surface and they keep moving that dirt through the inside circuit as the race goes on and if you remove a tire or disconnect where it was, basically the car will go straight no matter what you do with the steering wheel. of our security team immediately attended to Matt Mills, so it was a difficult end for the driver of the five 24-year-olds again.
His career-best finish of 10th place was at Daytona, but he won't be visiting Victory Lane today. That's it, now we are. We are mortgage keys to Victory Circle, obviously we would like to welcome you to the luau. They've given us the bat-cam down the stretch here at Watkins Glen. They will be part of the Victory Circle. Steve, give us the keys. Start with this. The last stop and that's what I think we're getting ready to see is the last stop on Pit Road. Are four tires used? Is gasoline used? Only cars enter the pits backwards. Can your pit crew execute it?
And then the reboots we have. I saw him two three four all day and then with those restarts it's calculated aggression. We saw Ty Gibbs let Almendinger go. I thought it was a great decision early in the race, but if you're late in the race, can you afford it? At some point, Rick, you have to push the issue, but that's up to these drivers to decide what the race is about, risk versus reward, but with 34 laps and 33 to go, I think the entire field is forced to come. to Pit Road. Even if this is outside your comfort in a fuel window, we are going to see a lot of cars on Pit Road right now, you actually see very few or even choose not to come to Pit Road.
Daniel Himrick will be the only one, so So far that's not coming to throw rug and Steve, you probably don't think that's a good idea guys doing your service now Dylan here's the same mayor working on a race afternoon he threw from third place Harrisonburg stops right in front of him for mayor said he's too free but he can't commit to the throttle, so that's his biggest disadvantage right now four tires and fuel with no adjustments for the eight cars. The mayor himself, Parker, could be Dylan, that basically equalizes the strategy across the board. You see, the 22-car Boston Cedric, if the senator screamed and put on four Goodyear tires and filled the tank with gas, is simply too tight to catch those tight Gibbs 54s and then down at the bottom of the creek, Ty gives it that 54. no.
The changes were just a strict air pressure adjustment for him and coming out to the lead Austin Cedric got bottled up there so he lost a few places. Geyer gained seven herps from Riley on pit roads and a disappointing speeding penalty in Pit Road section two, so he had Dixie. vodka Tony's Ford T is going a little too fast and frustration sets in and you know mistakes are going to be made, but when it happens at the end of the race, it's so hard to get over this restart it's going to be crazy, mixed strategies, everything Field's confusing radio style for Watkins Glen mixed up strategies, actually himrick up front, didn't come to Pit Road, we'll see how he does, couple guys lock the tires, Brandon Jones on that 19 on the inside and remember the 74.
That's Bailey Curry up here. running in second place, he also got the Preston group 90 to sit there, which is almost looking to be crushed by three, the leaders up the hill and Daniel Hendrick 18 is away with the lead. Bailey Curry is feeling the heat from Brandon Jones for second place, here's Jones. inthe 19th will go down the drivers very hard, behind them it will do the same on the backstretch, an account of the contact that was happening on that restart of these guys trying to avoid these slower vehicles, as you see, it was seen on the 19th.
Had a little tire smoke in the braking zone on the left front. Algar's seven cars also made several moments of contact with other cars on that restart in turns one and two as I try to get our Preston into the harness as quickly as possible. As best he can, the professor does not give up and continues to fight in the track positions, huge on the road courses, he has to get it when now you can protect yourself, although the rusty part remains firm in the artists of the 90s, eh, Champion Miata, so he has road course experience and he continues to battle right now with young Ty Gibbs, those two side by side as they head down to turn one watching the tight Gibbs open up the inside line in Preston's harness right now , that's the battle for position number four.
Eric opens up now. the 74. Ty makes his way unless he's gone alone trying to hold on to that car 90 Justin Allgir and the Seven going up, they reach the top of the hill now in three over four and Preston Barnes is starting to do his Shuffle towards back like everyone now. like in his crosshairs, they're all stacked up here behind him coming into this breakout zone Justin Haley at 22 next to Preston Preston and 22 sends it in with no problems, but look what he looks at. he has car 90 out of line in the corner and now he is under attack, a few more cars try to come back and as they try to pass he stacks everyone up so the battle is two or three rows behind, they get next to each other, very good . hard racing here Jeff, you mentioned hard racing the restart, we knew it was going to be exciting as the 90 of parts here on the right side of the screen in the red car is stacked on top of the seven in the light blue car that's just it, the You guys are thinking I'm going to come in here with three wides.
I have to try to make some moves. Early contact between them. Two and three different cars banging and hitting each other's fenders. They rubbed each other and when they got to the restart, the help. from Sam Mayor, if you saw it on your screen, he had a penalty, so he took the opportunity to fill up his fuel because all these cars that pitted will be very close to their penalty, they also had pit crew on the wall. Soon up front, Daniel Himrick has a one second lead right now over Brandon Jones, so it's Ty Gibbs. All Guyer and Bailey Curry in the top five.
The fury in that 74 is still trying to hold on to this top five position. Haley taking that position away from him. from him to the carousel here, Cinder tries to get close to this car 74, in fact, they're correcting on 16 and there's a tough little battle right here. AJ presses South, centered at the beginning of the race, to the front, trying to get there. back trying to make this move in turn six easily for 74. and right now Cinders running in sixth position Parker on the 33-22 team just discussing how they think Ty's 54 car is actually half a lap down, his team confirmed that by saying they might need a little fuel in that 54th car at the end of this race, the 22nd on the other hand, they believe they can go all the way with a little fuel safely, so they Come driving in six, maybe you won't reach the finish line.
On the way, you wait for Austin Cedric, who could be Design, back here behind those guys, you see that Gregson night car trying to go around 51st and he passes Jeremy Clements Braxton has been trying to throw a few blocks to keep the 16 of AJ. Almendinger behind him as Gregson tries to get around these slower cars. He sees Alma Dinger at the bottom of the race track on the carousel that will give him some rear grabs. He comes down this back part. He immediately fights for second place. Look three. He gets scars on the front. of this race not again, will look under Brandon Jones in seven Randy will close the door and in front of them the 18th Daniel Hamrick continues to lead but very short of fuel, the last in Pit Row until the last 22.
So the next two o Within three laps, we would expect to see the 18 reach Pit Road as Ty Gibbs went deep into the turn below the 19 at the bottom of the screen. Trouble for Austin Dillon at 23. Ty Gibbs trying Trident at one didn't work. do it in two, it will hold, but Brandon will take it up the hill almost making contact now, at the turn, three Gibbs will slide at 54 and now it's Brandon Jones who will try to pull away and catch the race leader, Daniel Henry. Man, it's really changed since our racing, driving side by side through the gist or through the interloop or wherever, it's a lot slower, but these guys do it, they race hard for every position, the Gibbs Cars , one, two, three when they come out. the Brandon Jones carousel with a very good strategy stopped under green put four and then under yellow flag he simply accelerated only got his position on the track, he has done a good job maintaining it, although Pisces maintained that position on the straight track, team decision, good job. by Brandon Jones stepping up we know hemrick has to come to Pit Road here in just a moment Ty Gibbs running second he will take the lead as we go NASCAR Non-Stop everyone thank you thank you Watkins Glen foreign style and we saw Ray Slater Daniel Hamrick arrived at Pit Road and needed fuel to get the lead back in his hands.
From Ty Gibbs, who is in front, Brandon Jones, second, how does strategy come into play here? Steve now for Ty Gibbs, well all these leaders pitted on lap 49, which is uncomfortably far for their fuel tanks, so 54 now has the lead, I think it is. I'm just going to try to work on your fuel and try to save a little bit, let's listen to your foreign radio about half gas, so if you run two or three laps with a caution flag, you're saving gas, but I think we should keep going. The 54 and the drivers help me with this, he said, "Look at those braking zones in my mind." Dale Jr.
Jeff Burton, that means getting up early, letting the car roll so Junior can take me aboard the 54. Where do you think the best places are to save fuel? It's hard, yeah, I guess getting up early using less rest is a great way to save fuel. You have to drive the car uphill, although you have to press the pedal to get there, so this part of the track probably won't be as good. place to try to conserve, but here, as you approach the braking zone to the bus stop, you can get up exceptionally early much earlier than before, use less brakes there at about the same speed and probably not waste much driving time. lap and also Junior when do you accelerate fully?
Just wait for that so you see it's rolling now. Now go back to the accelerator. Downshift sooner than you would have gone into third. Keep the RPM out of the engine. Go to Fourth. Keep the RPM out of the engine. engine, more RPM and burning more fuel, it hurts the lap time a little bit, but that's not what Ty Gibbs is worried about right now, what he's worried about is getting the fuel right, Steve, that's what we call him, man, find a way to make this car go around the track using this fuel, let's move on and Steve always loved it when you told me you know I hated keeping you every time you told me that, but on a road course, if you told me to keep fuel, I loved it because you have worked very hard. run fast here and many times they end up going slower when driving the car, so when you say save fuel, the driver can back off a little, take it easy, use less break, hit the car less, have more race car to yourself breaks and all that stuff at the end of the race and probably runs just as fast if not faster and a problem with the 51 so now that brings out your caution no it doesn't the 51 states are well, Jeremy Clements, yeah, he's running ninth, so Unfortunately for 51, let's look at Jeff Burton in 10.
He'll make a downhill move breaking the Zone, it's very easy to get there too deep. I'll be honest, I'm not sure if 51 didn't know who he was. there it's so hard from that angle but I thought the 10 was pretty neat on the sidewalk let's take oh well it could be blocking them yeah the right front is blocked better angle on that side the 10 is definitely off the sidewalk . Jeremy didn't give him a lot of room, but he gave him a full lane and I want to go back to that Ty Gibbs conversation about saving gas, just remember he's an 18 year old, 18.
So there's a lot to take in and this is more than just how. Quick, can you go? He's doing all this trying to win another Xfinity Series race. It's more than just turning and braking. You have to really drive the whole race. Steve, but I believe this. I think the young driver Ty has been in the sport forever. He knows these strategies, he sat in the box and watched these things happen with Kyle Busch with Denny Hamlin with Martin Truex he's been in this sport forever so he understands the play well, it's just the job of a real scene to make sure he does it. communicate correctly, so I've seen this happen several times, now you just have to run it, look in the mirror as we take a look at the Toyota driver update.
He started this race in 13th place, we saw him have a great battle with AJ Allmendinger, a veteran, he is now in front. and walking through this field with Brandon Jones behind him, foreigner here, brought to us by Toyota, going backwards in a straight line, downshifts now to the second left side, right on that curve, accelerate slowly, save a little of fuel, release the accelerator completely. now accelerate slowly in seven going to the front immediately shift early put that thing in third gear as soon as you can 1.4 seconds the gap right now Ty Gibbs has on Brandon Jones we know they're thinking about saving fuel, they're not I know if they have enough to get to the finish, which is 21 laps away, is that Checkered Flag Cedric is running third, Almondinger fourth and all the guys are fifth here, Dylan, so Justin Haley is battling a transmission Gremlin, It sounds like from the frantic communication on the radio it says that when you go from third to fourth there is some kind of problem with the transmission and the car gets stuck in neutral, so the crew jumped on the wall preparing in case things went wrong more than that, but for now I think you'll just have to suck it up and be aware that that's the problem, but obviously it's not ideal, as much as you're shifting on this track when everything is going well, it's not the case at the moment for 11.
He has lost a little ground compared to the cars he was racing with. It took him a little time to get back. He is moving around the carousel. It is really difficult. It just doesn't kick in easily. It ruins all your time. You have to do it. Move the throttle a little bit, build some RPM and take that car out of gear so it doesn't spin Hawk and when it doesn't spin smoothly, completely change your pace, so right now Justin Haley is just about surviving. mode goes around this race track without destroying the transmission too much.
Mission and be very careful with it as we see everyone in turn one. I'm going to tell you that the driver I have my eye on is actually in second place on 19 Brandon. Jones slowed down a bit. I think he went into fuel conservation mode. I think he's letting Ty Gibbs out, you see the Gap, two and a half seconds, so he's thinking, hey, I gotta make sure I can make this thing work. At the finish line, he's not the only one who has backed that race car and lowered those lap times again; There are several pilots who have done the same, all trying to make sure they have enough tiger in the tank to make it to The Checkered.
Flag there, you see the monthly six cars back off the track, he puts it all back together and back on the track off the carousel at Brandon Jones Steve, what a great job by Brandon Jones, he's been working really hard on his Road Force skills , hasn't had the The speed you need to have on the road forces a good strategy today worked on the bye week, get some time on the road for things, man, Arca's race yesterday just worked hard to improve skills Brandon Jones Trying to stay positive, actually his first vehicle was a big red Dodge truck and of course a kid with a big red Dodge truck would name it Clifford, right?
But Brandon Jones is currently holding on to second place with Austin Cedric behind him in third. Austin Cedric tries to apply pressure by trying to catch Brandon Jones and, frankly, I'm surprised Cedric couldn't do that unless he's also in full fuel economy mode, but right now he seems content to ride behind the 19 Jones, who is running in third place, almost four seconds behind the race leader in Ty Gibbs, approached the bus stop here now climbing on theTop of curbs close a little on that 19 car, good handling, more gain there on the carousel, this 19 car needs to look in the mirror, don't exit the corner, you'll see there's a lot of people back there, we've talked a lot about that, say it in the fuel, but what about your Satan Tire with 19 to go?
The possibility of this turning green. I think it is quite scarce. It's road. Of course, how did it get this far down the road for us without a yellow flag? So maybe some of these drivers are not only saving fuel but just taking it easy on the tires, so for a late race restart they had the best chance without having to throw in a pair. points back and nine seconds back and Brandon Jones is all Guyern Dillard and he's going backwards and not by design, so maybe he has a potential problem here, he thought it was, uh, Justin thought maybe it was a breakup problem at first, How do you see the blockage? there on the big screen now it feels like maybe it's a tire falling apart, whatever it is, it's a very inconsistent thing that makes the car very difficult to drive, very difficult to predict and Justin may come here just to try to make sure that I can keep this car in one piece until the end, well, let's get on with it now.
Dylan, get to turn two. Harrison Burton is now over it. The guy is just trying to hold on, maybe get back to the pits. The brothers collapse a little at the top of the hill. and now he has pressure from Justin Haley Haley now in the 11 is going to look inside Olgaier as they are all stacked now from the back immediately Haley is in position here to take this spot, no they are going to compete. side by side over there again, but the return traffic will be used as a spike and allow that lemon car to pass the seven men it's fighting hard all over the track, there's no grip on that car right now, clearly with the problem so far.
Since he lost a lot of speed, you saw how much he was moving, his hands are full and look at the pace he already lost now Brandon Jones on Pit Road Steve Randy Jones must have finally given up the ghost of fuel economy or a problem, we will have to wait and see . I thought they would at least try to make it to the end with fuel with 17 laps to go. It's a strange time for Parker to come unless they feel like they're coming now in case the yellow flag comes out. I think there is a consensus among the entry cars in 22 that followed them that they did not have the fuel.
You see the fuel coming out there. They are going to make tires. They thought this would be more surprising in the 19. As you can see, also the seven just made it to Pit Road as well, yeah, and that problem that they thought wasn't going to make it, the car wasn't going to make it, so they wanted to take it to Pit Road just to be safe, so obviously this will do it. do well on the field, but there is a lot of track position here, they just hope everything comes back in their favor. The problem is Rick, if the yellow comes out.
I think the leader is going to stay out and save gas, so let's go look, we'll come back, we'll go NASCAR Non-Stop foreign foreign foreign foreign foreign non-stop I saw him right in front of me Eric Jones drove to turn six seems to have no breaks hard contact on the outside wall look right here it already made contact with the card it immediately turned right almost facing that blue barrier and then as it slid towards me right below me it went into the sand and stopped a big impact for Eric Jones, this is my shot, this is what I saw that suddenly Eric Jones was just going to the right.
A really strange look makes you wonder if he only had the rear brake or something and he just turned the car around. Fortunately, that sand, that's what it's there for, slows down the car and prevents it from having the second impact. there's old man there's old man there's Jeff yeah, I'll tell you Jeff, that's a pretty good place. I'm jealous, hey Jeff, if you knew you had no brakes, would you turn it into the wall to try to slow you down or would you? Go straight to that wall in front of you. I'm not smart enough for that man.
He would do it. I would avoid contact as much as I could if Eric Jones did it. It was a great move, but I just don't know. that you could do that. I'm wondering if the brake went to the floor and when that happens one master cylinder engages and usually that's the rear one and then the wheel just pops out and it spins really fast. I have a feeling that's what happened. The front ones simply didn't work and the rear ones immediately came in. Every driver who goes straight says man. I wish he had turned into the wall, so whether by luck or skill, a strong impact, but much better than if he had gone.
Straight ahead we saw Jimmy Johnson hit in turn one. We've seen it a million times. Awesome. It's one thing for road courses to be exciting, but they can be dangerous just because of all the angles on the walls. Now, with 14 to go, the question. Know? I think all the leaders will stay out and save gas, this should get them within their fuel window, but Brandon Jones we saw him, you know, throw in the towel and come to Pit Road, take four tires, well, great job. by Brandon Jones because you know the field was so tight that he actually rejoined at 12.
Yeah, so he'll restart inside the top 15 on fresh tires. We'll see if he can use them as we travel aboard Ty Gibbs. He turns off the car and slides off um, could you do it, we've seen him not shoot again, you lose positions, you have to be careful, where are you on the track? Guys, we talked a lot about getting experience on the track, which we talked about a lot today. drivers who have raced this weekend, this is the negative, right, if you are Eric Jones, you are here for one reason, one reason only, just win this race and gain experience to use better for tomorrow, but this is the negative, this is the problem where you know car owners get a little nervous about letting their drivers race, it's dangerous, you're in these cars going so fast, Eric Jones, with a big bang today, he literally got out of the car.
The activity looks good, but you expose yourself to possible risks. problems running these races on Fridays and Saturdays, yes, I mean Jeff, that's absolutely it. You know the worry of a car owner seeing their driver here, but without qualifying practice, I think track pace takes priority and I think it was good for Eric Jones to be here. You see, I'm not sure if he's a nervous car owner. I bet he's a nervous grandpa. You know, Coach Gibbs Ty gives it to his grandparents. There's Ty's mom, Heather, so...the family is here, this is the part that, you know, we lost with the pandemic.
It's great to see families back in a family like this. Sports and someone like Ty, just listen. I've seen this young man running some dirt. GoPro racing oh yeah and I knew he had talent but there's no way I would have guessed so much Raw Talent when you move him up the ranks to the Xfinity Series but he's proven that he deserves this ride and here you go we thought there. It could be a few decisions, a lot of guys stay on the track, but some guys come to Pit Road, want to be a little safer with the fuel and maybe get some new tires.
Parker goes back to one of them, Noah Gregson in that nine car that he wants to get Those new tires think that maybe if they can add some grip to that nine car, they'll be able to get more positions here. He just had trouble a little bit with the back of that car while he was looking, it's going to be for Goodyear tires and filling it with full fuel. again to make sure they're ready to go to the end you're busy on Pit Road you see, one thing we haven't talked about is you look down Pit Road you know the second half starts to go downhill.
We've had a couple speeding penalties in section two and, you know, I wonder if sometimes you know the boost you know when you set the cruise control on your car, all you know, you're going downhill on the interstate. . going a little faster, what if it doesn't catch some drivers off guard in the last two sections on Pit Road? Hey, that never worked out for me, trying to get out of the ticket was downhill, so while this race continues, qualifying was held in Nashville for the NTT Indycar Series in its first race there, the Nashville Grand Prix, and Colton Herta, 21, really put on a show in qualifying.
He was able to win the poll, so he will start at the front. Scott Dixon will be next to him up front. line up to start the first road race there in Nashville, which would be great tomorrow after the Cup race from right here in Glen, here's the schedule of what's happening on NBCSN at two o'clock, countdown to Green here and then race from the Glen again that one year break from last year so back here at the Glen for the cup series and then to the IndyCar Music City Grand Prix of Nashville so looking forward to that amazing race and if You think tomorrow will be great because it's with two big races in a week we'll have Indy with IndyCar and NASCAR on the same track on the same weekend so I'm excited to go there.
I may be half fan, half commentator to comment on NASCAR stuff, but you can watch the IndyCar race, okay, speaking of fans, I know you're a car fan, so Mecum Auctions is going up against Monterey, so are there on Thursday, it's in peacock, so you have to start with peacock facing forward. to that now Steve, one of the cars that will be for sale is a 1952 Ferrari 340 of America, so what would be your starting offer on that car? Well, my opening is big, you know, I started, you know, an affordable price of $5,000, Rick. because that's probably all I can afford, but I think it would be a little short, well, it would only take away about four million 995,000 from the current value of that car, five million dollars that will be at auction.
That's why I love seeing these Mecum auctions. First of all, I am a car enthusiast. I love cars, but every car has a story and you start talking about some of these beautiful domestic and foreign cars, these great cars that are on the block. What a great job telling the story, I mean how about a little Carroll Shelby? Oh yes, there will be some Carol Shelby action on stage, which are outside our price tag. Also Rick, uh, Hi Burton, can we get loan offers? Not that. He was also very fast man, okay, 12 to go, we're about to turn right and go to the pits.
Rogue, the field currently in the hands of Ty Gibbs, Cindrick will be inside as they prepare to dive into turn number. one, so have they saved enough fuel? I think at this point 13, for God's sake, you have to assume that you're good, it's time to go, how fast can you go side by side and restart? 12 laps to go from Glen Ty Gibbs with a big restart now here comes Cedric to the inside they fight door to door as they go through one and well White goes Gibbs can keep him in line it's Cindric who's in front Austin Cedric returns to the leader Gibbs he goes back to second and here comes AJ Almendinger is there cars big enough to take the lead after Cedric has taken the lead, the question is if he can pull away from everyone else, not if Ty gimps has anything to say about it.
He gives us all 22 trying to get that lead back in the breakout zone. Look closely, right here, running down the center of the bus stop towards the carousel, pressing right on the rear bumper, this 22nd guard takes it to the race track. I think the 22 came loose, not sure if there was contact. there, side by side, outside the carousel, they were side by side, Cedric, somehow, another game that's back, Almondinger now trying to take the pressure off of Gibbs' new tires there in fifth place with Brandon Jones and then all new tires, six, seven, a lot, two, taken off the cards in front what a battle in front of us here with Austin Cedric up front Ty Gibbs running second AJ Allmendinger is third Harrisonburg right there in fourth Brandon Jones in fifth what such a surprising turn for the team 19 and now the syndrome trying to keep him at bay under 11 Laps to go from Glen Austin Cedric trying to get out of Dodge right now he has Ty Gibbs applying pressure, there's Gibbs trying to work his way under Centric in the bottom of the s here they go up by three over the tunnel to four and Ty Gibbs stays with Austin Cedric step by step and if either of the two forwards makes a mistake, AJ Allmendinger is there in third place to capitalize.
Stendrick had to be perfect on the s to stay out of trouble here and be on the defensive, but look at this 54 coming right up to the rear bumper again. He's making you lose a little bit of contact right here, right on the bumper, so get closer. Get closer to 54. Being patient, he now has a great career. Jeff, yes, he has a great career. He should be able to do it. to leave, but Cinder is blocking him from the back, he immediately pushes himself in saying: I'm going to take this place from you side by side and six now sitting inside, the skins clear even seven by one, one and a half incredible. The movement of Cedric, 18, and Almondinger, the favorites are not so fast, which shows that he has the talent, he is one on the road courses before passing Cedric for the lead and now Almond Digger arrives with the second Takeover.
Here comes Almond Digger, who's going to shoot it inside Austin Cedric. For a moment I was worried that Ty Gibbs had put a stick in the hornet's nest, but Austin Cedric is fading. Ty Gibbs is walking away. The question is what AJ Omendinger has for the race leader right now. behind him by about four cars, maybe five, as now Zinger, once Cedric catches up to him, can focus on tracking down the race leader early in the race. It was Gibbs the student and AJ Almendinger the teacher in front. Gibbs is now leading this race. Can AJ track him down? going down to nine to go around the carousel Gibbs has the pace Cedric doesn't have the pace unlike him he doesn't expect to see the officials back off at the end of the race he just doesn't seem to have the car under him He can't get inside well it seems that everyone around you can bring more speed into the corner and on the exit of the corner the question now can Armor drink a summary, gives the Senator who doesn't even seem to have the car to be able to do it and I think everyone is like me. asking how this 18 year old becomes such a mature road course racer.
He won his first Xfinity Series start at Daytona on the road course earlier this year and now he's starting to pull away from the veteran Almendinger, there's no doubt about it. Rick, Ty Gibbs is headed for a full-time ride in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the question is when that will happen. Today he has gone head to head with some of the greats of this series and right now that young man is showing his muscles. he's pulling away from AJ Almendinger on what is an awesome ride in that Toyota Supra traveling down the Rue mortgage free, backup camera to the bus stop, that 54 car, let's see how that car performs on that part of the race track .
Gibbs is so impressive, he not only knows that he has a great race car, but that he has to run the right line, he has to use the race track the right way to get speed. Yes, there are 54 cars that won three of the four road courses this year, but Ty Gibbs. He has to drive it and Ty Gibbs knows that he will have to be perfect, but he can't not attack, that's who he is, that's his personality, he's an aggressive driver, supporting that would be an incredible mistake because I'm his team. . boss I'm beating him up, do it last time, that's what makes your Survivor tick, he's pushing it right now, let's get updates on the top three, we'll start with Parker and Rick, you asked why Tiger is so good at the racetrack.
I asked his real Boss Piscal that exact question and he said it's because he works on it. He has been very impressed with the 18-year-old's work ethic. Watch a lot of videos. He uses every tool thrown at him. He said I can't. Believe it sometimes the things he gives back to me for the effort he has put into being fast on these road courses. Dylan and Parker, from one of the most inexperienced drivers to one of the most experienced on the road courses. AJ Olmandinger trying to locate him. I know it was here two years ago in 2019 when AJ ran what was in a college race car part-time and really changed the course of his road racing program and since then, this group of colic has been a constant threat in These circuits, AJ tries to apply everything he has learned, all the knowledge and everything he can about the race car to try to find the Thai gifts and become the winningest driver in the Xfinity Series on road courses.
He will close the gap with eight to go. Parker, another pilot behind him. Austin Cedric. He probably thought he was going to have more for that 54 car there on that restart, he saw the run out of turn one. Isaac suspected it was because he was keeping it in a rear tire during that long run that led to the yellow flag. When his team told him the 54 was on two laps four at the time, they thought they were in the Catford seat when they restarted there, he just hasn't had the pace, continues to struggle with wheel lift off in the braking zones and that 22 car doesn't have the rear grip to compete with the 54. less than seven laps to go Brandon Jones backs up a little Noah Gregson all over his rear bumper now and this is the battle just outside the top five Noah Gregson trying to find his Road through a good battle with Toyota Chevy, Harrison Burton managed to be in 20th just ahead, but Brandon Jones has had an up and down day today, he's been out front, he's had pit road speeding penalties and right now Junior is inside the top 10.
The night card has a slightly better tire than the 19th in front of him. You see a little bit of blocking from Brandon Jones. Noah tries to take advantage of that newer tire as we run laps that will even out and that advantage will disappear. away and you see the knots Slide the car around the carousel there trying to make up time on this 19th of Brennan Jones and before this battle Justin algar overtook Harrison Burton Justin algar also on good tires, all three cars during the 7th of the 19th the nine newest tires we had a car stopped on the race track win the net below where is this?
I don't know where he is he is in the back immediately leaving the s something is wrong with the car he also jumps tries to put it in gear so it doesn't move, but he gets out of the car and goes to jump over the wall, but the warning has already come out. I saw him get out of the car and I wonder: where is he supposed to go? outside the car it made me nervous when I was wearing it, you know, on this race track, I have to imagine that there must be something inside the smoke from the fire or something there that wanted to get out of the car quickly, well, we're going to have a shootout.
Now it's going to be less than six laps to go as Cal Weatherman stopped the car and he's right there, just coming out of the s, uh, on the homestretch and I'm with the drivers. I was afraid the track was still green. Kyle felt like he had to get out of the car and even though you know the driver is right, you know you never know what could happen, so let's take a look here at what happens. This is going up the S's into the left turn, so it had some A little bit of smoke coming out of the car for a couple of laps, whatever it was, yeah, Junior, when he got out of the car, he didn't just come out. , but he went as far away as he could, jumped over the blue barrier and got into the grass just wanted to get away from that car, yes, I was trying to get a wasp nest out of my little girl's plate set this week, exactly what It seemed like, I moved about 20 feet away, I still got stung, yeah, I was definitely trying. to get away from that Wasp's Nest type car he was driving there, so the AMR security team there will attend to him now and he will have to make the trip to the Frame Care Center to get him checked, but the 47 brings the flag yellow now came out, Steve, so we have to warn that Ty Gibbs had separated almost a second and a half from AJ Allmendinger, but now there is a restart, a restart and you know it every time you cool the tires and warm them up again, the cars they turn on. was a little different Jeff Burton just mentioned that while Gibbs and Almendinger definitely had the best pace in the field matching each other's lap times, you know Dyer has about 15 or 16 pressure tires back there in fourth place, so I don't think he's shown the pace yet to run on those front two, but those newer tires will give him an advantage by just a lap or a set of s.
You know it will be the reset. Zone one and two and then we'll have That said and we'll continue to say it, there's a good chance we'll see each other side by side in the east and as Mike Bagley showed us at the top of the exhibit, the bags that usually don't end up very well they are too wide. through the s might get a little sketchy, no they don't work very well, all it takes is one person to slip up and then the next thing you know the track is blocked and you have Carnage and Mayhem, but let's hope that all.
He keeps his p's and q's buttoned up, but I agree with you. I think when we go back to green, this will be intense. You have Ty Gibbs, AJ Allmendinger and Austin Centric, one, two, three, one of the newer drivers and two of the veterans. Of course racers, buckle up kids, this is going to be fun, you know what Ty Gibbs has been able to do in his young career if you've been watching closely, he gets great restarts, makes great throws and creates an opportunity to have a gap to enter. Turn one he'll have to do that right now, but where they line up if he picks that outside lane, which he's been doing constantly, he'll put weed right behind him going into turn one with newer tires, so it'll be a opportunity for us.
The guy should try to push the issue to leave turn one with Gibbs and maybe beat Almondinger on the S's and try to attack him to get on the inside track I have on new tires. He has to feel that he is going to move forward. offensive here and try to make something happen. I think the only thing you know is that we're impressed with Gibbs and what he was able to do right there - he had a little bit of time between him and AJ Almondinger, five to ten cars. it links up well, if you don't have that now going into these breakout zones for the first few laps, that's going to change the way you approach those breakout zones, you're going to charge them harder, you're going to be on defense and that's going to change the line. what it takes and how fast he can move around this racecourse and it may discourage him enough from this game but that will be the test for him now that he passed all the other tests today but can he handle that pressure from one of the best in he? game if AJ doesn't beat him in turn one or I'll turn two and Gibbs can take over the lead in this bus stop braking zone and in the braking zone to turn six with that 16 car on his bumper.
Stay calm and continue making the right turns. Parker and Ty Gibbs have done an incredible job. Let's talk to your crew chief Chris Gayle Chris. We're just talking about what do you say to this 18-year-old. What advice do you give him to help him endure? go to the best road courses in the game, yeah we've been talking about restarting, putting a little bit on channel two and what to do there, and I think that's the most important thing right now, you've got the 16 and you want to give it the background to be able to control the braking zone in turn one or not, so I think Ty knows what to do, which they've talked about a little bit.
I think he will be good. I do not think it is. I think he looks like a rookie today, right, not at all, he definitely looks very good and just remember the guys he picked outside last time, let's see if he does it again and when he picked outside last time, he actually lost the lead in that external choice. because it opened up a little bit after turn one, okay, let's get the guys from around the track, Bag Man, so when they get to the yeah, who will it be, will it be Gibbs, will it be Almondinger or will it be Cendricker Olga?
You know, normally I would go with Almondinger and Cedric, but with what I've seen today from Ty Gibbs, there's no doubt that Ty Gibbs has this career market. I have to agree with Ty Gibbs even if he loses control of the race. In this restart I think he recovers it and wins this race. I don't agree with you two, but I have two. I think he'll be the guy, hey, but you know, don't forget the safety car. ignites a late race restart at the circuit pretty sure we'll see another yellow flag. I am an expected counter contact.
I'm looking for a prize ending. I think it's very easy to overdrive and go over the first corner, although I love the starting 54 drivers, right? you know what's his name Rick a no answer uh and Burton actually I think he said the safety car was going to win yeah I said keep your eye on the basement no we hope we don't see that again four laps go from Glen, alright Gibbs has picked the inside line almondinger on the outside big black back in the air Gibbs with a big reset has the preferred line as he launches into turn number one the gloves are off here in Watkins Glen Ty Gibbs on the inside Here he comes AJ Allman Digger in turn number one, they're out front longer, they're given the lead, it's a stinger in the first, Ty gives it the seconds and it's Austin's Hendrick in the 22nd with Brandon Jones, Harrison Burton, it's a quick door from the Hornets in Dale's case.
Jr, a wasp mess heading into the interlude, you have to wonder why Ty Gibbs shows the inside line there, he learned earlier in the race that didn't work and again AJ Armendinger's 16 takes the lead but this 54 is biting trying to put . the pressure and regain lost ground, she said it Junior, you felt that even if she lost the lead she could regain it look at all this contact and Almonding are using a room of the I don't even call it the race track. cops tarmac to pass what a crazy move by Almond Broting coming into turn one but the battle has begun for the inside leader and turn seven here comes 54 once again Ty Gibbs, do you think he made a mistake in thereboot and now it's trying? to counterattack to make up for it has closed the gap they are right on the rear shock the wheels here cheering on their feet Ty Gibbs, the 18 year old, taking it to Almond Digger Almond Digger leading trying not to make a mistake less than three laps to go finale at Watkins Glen, where can Ty Gibbs make up the ground he needs to regain the lead?
It's Dinger and Gibbs one and two, both pilots very smoothly through two, here they are through three singers, they will move a little bit and that will allow Ty Gibbs to get closer. but Gibbs will shape into turn four the battle for the leading starting score and race down the backstretch. AJ Almondinger has been strong in the first half of this racetrack, but in the second half he came out of this bus stop and through the carousel, which is where he had problems. and you see car 54 near the Gap right here AJ is on the bumper the 54 tries to get close enough he has a little arrow loop there he lost a little ground but that exposes AJ here he goes outside of AJ armandingo down back immediately oh, we have a spinner behind him still fighting for the lead Ty Gibbs up front remembers what happened at the end of stage two, although Ty Gibbs was running in second position he thought he could catch Austin Cedric at that moment and overtake him almendinger now in that position There are two laps to go here at the Glen and Ty gives up his lead with less than five laps to go.
Can Ty have the poise and maturity to hold on to this lead? He has one of the best paths. NASCAR racers right behind him, he also has Austin Cedric and Justin, all the guys are there too, it's a four car breakaway to win with less than two laps to go and Ty Gibbs is trying to pull away, he's trying hard for pulling away and he will do it by two points, but is that enough to claim this victory? AJ Almondinger doesn't want to lose ground with this 54 car. He wants to be able to get close enough to apply pressure, but this 54 is slowly pulling away. and he feels more and more comfortable when he looks in the mirror and sees that he's put it until there's another car length here and another car length there, that Shields trusts Ty Gibbs.
Ty Gibbs has the best car right now. AJ Armendiggers pushing as hard as he can. but he just can't gain ground and he knows he has more experience. He won a cup race here, but the young driver is moving away from him. He is very frustrating. Frankie Armending is in that car watching car 54 get smaller. Ty Gibbs now fights back. He has demonstrated perfection by being able to get through the bus stop and carousel as well as anyone like the black one with one lap left presented by Credit One bank. It's a three car lead for Ty Gibbs as they go through an almondinger running second.
Cedric in third place, he has to hit his marks Ty Gibbs has to hit each corner precisely here he is, in turn two he will slide a little uphill, he will arc the car into turn number three and he will get the good. He launches into turn four and will immediately double back for the last time this afternoon. Ty Gibbs is off to another long-awaited victory and continues to check all the boxes as we watch this kid run race after race. he does everything right, he is beating two of the best in this series at this racetrack and what they do best is the 54 cars that Todd gives off the carousel doing everything right Junior at the moment who is not too big for him, can take advantage the fight.
Back to AJ Almendinger, he is sailing flawlessly and this checkered flag is his. He's risen to the occasion, as you mentioned, beating the best today in Glenn sevens last time. Ty Gibbs will see the crowd rise. The 18-year-old was going to win at Glen Foreign, but he went off the throttle and didn't make contact. It's very refreshing to see a young and promising Star Race in that way, there was a time when pushing and shoving became the norm. Todd Gibbs has burst onto the scene, winning consistently, and doing so meticulously. Like a surgeon, piece by piece, in every movement he wears respect.
I'm very impressed with what he does and very impressed with the race. that this track continues to give this is only his 10th start in the , I mean, we knew he was going to do it. have a chance listen his last name is Gibbs Joe Gibbs is the owner you can make all the arguments you want about it being the race car I would give you three trophies is the answer he is in the race car because he is a great race car driver, yes, only Ron Fellows and Daryl Waltrip had three wins with less than 10 starts in the Xfinity Series, very good company there for this young driver, the youngest driver to win in the Xfinity Series in Watkins Glenn, the second youngest driver with three wins behind Chase Elliott. good company and I love his emotions you know that win at Daytona he cries and talks about how much that win meant to him and I think Jeff Burton Pratt said it best you know the moment wasn't too big he lost the lead he's going He happened to lose the lead to AJ Almondinger but he fought the crowd here, they have a show and now he's going to put on another one here right after the finish line, the car is gone, that's pretty good at that, it's definitely pretty Well.
At the time, the strange weather was going to be an issue here at Glen initially, it was the lightning that delayed the start of this race a bit, but I think the lightning was behind the wheel of the 54 today. Ty Gibbs was amazing and you see. the excitement in this young man, he knows what he just did, he took on the best and beat the best, don't leave and the crowd let him know that they appreciated what they saw. Dylan, what an extraordinary talent this young man is receiving congratulations. the team and Ty, let's go back to that restart, explain to me your decision to choose the line that you chose and then what happened?
Why did you choose the inside lane? You know, I felt like the 22 had a great restart on the previous restart and it had a little bit of life to it, you know, first of all, I'll thank the man above and you know Iris had probably the most fun race I've ever been on. been with AJ and, with the seven and the 22, you know, those guys are very experienced veterans in this racing series and you know being able to compete and beat them means a lot and I learned a lot for them too, so I can't thank Monster enough Energy, uh, TRD, you know, my Toyota Racing sweeper was super fast today and this is just a dream come true, you know, walking is fun and I'll bring my uh my monitor here and just have you watch these replays and again explain your perspective to us. from this.
I mean, AJ was out there obviously and you lose the lead, how do you keep your composure in that case knowing that he overtook you and just settled in and got back in front? Yes, I just want to be in these. Situations help you and just getting more experience, you know, those guys are so relaxed in this situation. Nation, so just learn from them and, you know, this is just wonderful. I can not believe it. I was gonna say. Is it established? I mean, just be one of the guys, as here's the team coming in with the water bottles again.
I mean, you know what beat one of the best road course racers of this generation. Yeah, you know, uh, DJ, no. I don't know what it would be like. You know my guys worked so hard and did such a good job. We had a super, really good race. Word slots right now. I'm tired, this is just amazing, what a show. It was Ty Gibbs' third win in 10 starts. Score again today at Watkins Glen, what a day you also see the rubber behind the car, by the way, what wear and tear it was, the rear tires are sagging, he had to fight several times. times it wasn't that Ty Gibbs was the dominant car and was out front the entire time, he lost the lead in two restarts and was able to win.
Give it back and it just shows the maturity of this 18 year old when he takes the win on the technical issue. Ty Gibbs wins the race he's not running by points in this Infinity Series or the truck series he's running in the Arca Series, so that's why I don't see his name here, but he already has three wins in the Xfinity series. Here's a look at the playoff standings with six races remaining in the regular seasons. Yes, there are still five names in yellow. I really look to the right side. Mike Lynette 12 plus 30 up. Riley Herbst Annette came back from that leg injury that required surgery missed a couple of races, came back, we didn't say his name much today but a solid right 11 got some stage points every time you come back from an injury.
I think you just want to have a solid day that's what Michael Annette did and he still continues to hold that last playoff spot with six races left in the regular season so almondinger you see him there second place he finished second in this race , let's hear from him a few moments ago. Parker caught up with him AJ Almondinger put up a great fight against that 54 car, what more did you need? You got to the lead, you just couldn't stop it, it's a fast car, like it had about 10 wins and Ty was out. doing a great job, so, yeah, we just needed a little bit, you know, we weren't very good a couple of years ago, so we went with a completely different setup, it was pretty good, the Chevy Hyperite was the second best race car pretty solid.
Unfortunately, we know, I mean, Gibbs is tough and that 54 car all year long has been tough and tied. Ty did a great job, he was clean, he made a great move on me. I couldn't really do anything to defend it, but I'm proud of everyone at the university. racing and this Hyper Ride Chevy I like, I like what we have for Indy next week. I wasn't sure about this so I'm ready to win at Brickyard, just tell me about that last restart you went overseas. There he got the advantage, did you think he had it just by getting that clean air?
No, I needed him to lose about three more points if that could have happened. He went in deep and I went in and he was carrying everything. the speed so just accelerating on the outside cleared it but I knew how good it was especially on the carousel and the last few corners so the car had a lot of rear grip and he used it but congratulations I mean. fantastic job by him, I'm proud of everyone at the card races, solid day, it sucks when you come in second, but we fought hard and with good points, and you know this is what we need to start making the playoffs, great fight by team 16 and Angel Steve, I think it's unanimous as we see Ty Gibbs' 54 walking in, he wasn't on Victory Lane Rue, you see him walk in there and it wasn't just us as announcers looking at him, It wasn't just the fans.
It was his competitors, it was his peers saying what a job Ty Gibbs did today the old question you get asked all the time which is more important the driver of the car and the simple answer well you should have both, yes and that's really what that AJ Almondinger just said we know he can drive, they didn't have a good baseline setup, they came with something different, he put on a great show, he said it in his interview, he said how fast the 54 was, but he wasn't going to not do it. I give credit to the pilot, he saw what Ty Gibbs did and that's really the most important thing to me.
It's one thing to have a good car, it's one thing to be fast and another thing to be close to winning at times, especially when I don't. Let's say he made a mistake but he lost control of the race. He could easily have panicked. He maintained his composure. He continued doing big laps in the second half of this ride from the bus stop to the carousel. Gibbs was amazing and made him pay. Okay, let's bring in the guys from around the rink Bag Man Junior Jeff, so Bag Man dresses him through the S and what an incredible performance we saw from this young man.
Oh, he was amazing and Stevie just captured it perfectly. We are seeing. this young man matured right in front of us, I mean, we're talking about AJ Allmendinger, we're talking about Austin Cindric Ty Gibbs has worked his way into this Xfinity Series scene and he's done it with authority, he's done it with aplomb, he's maturing right in front of us in our eyes. This young man has a long future ahead of him in this sport and especially in this series. Yes, I love it when we hit the road courses. We know who's going to be great here.
We know that AJ and Cedric will be at the forefront. I love seeing someone go in there and be a part of that battle and if not, disrupt that battle and that's what happened today, a very entertaining race from that standpoint to see those guys that we normally see dominate here get challenged. and we're also seeing how you say tag Gibbs goes through the motions of moving up the ranks that he's still competing in the Ark series, he's got a lot going on there with a little bit of battle and, you know, we see him learning as he goes. when to use bumper when not to use bumper when it's okay to be aggressive when it's when you have enough cards to not needbe aggressive, which is pretty much what he did today, so it'll be fun to watch.
Continue to go through these processes of making your way through this series. I think he comes into the series and becomes a full-time driver and we can enjoy watching him learn more and become a full-time driver in the years to come. Gibbs is the real deal, it's that simple. I mean if you look at how old he is you'll get the experience he has of the world in front of him and at times he's been criticized for being too aggressive but he's working on that himself, that's what young drivers, didn't he win this race today getting someone out of the way?
He went and took it, I wouldn't take it away from one of the best road racers and AJ said, hey, this car was better than mine, but yeah You're almond green AJ with all the experience and all the track time you have . You know a young man like that. He needs a much better car, but not Ty Gibbs today. Ty Gibbs certainly had a better car, but he did a great job driving. look at the laps he led, he led the most laps, he dominated this race, he did everything he had to do and there's more to come, like this isn't the last we'll see of TY Gibbs, he's a young guy and he's maturing. in front of his eyes, but how much maturity does he need?
He is so close to where he should be now. Don't change it. Let him be who he is. Let him continue doing what he is doing. It might make some people angry. Maybe not. So what, I just let him do it and that's been a success so far? Let it continue like this. We wonder how quickly he will rise through the ranks. We mentioned that Almendinger and Cindric are the favorites. Cedric, we know that he will be heading to both cars next year. He will be competing in the cup series and is therefore moving forward. Gibbs will rise so fast.
We talk about Cedric. Let's hear from him. Parker was with him a few moments ago. Austin Cedric finishes third and will have a little chat with Justin Algar. What would happen? you two arguing, oh, just making sure we're happy with each other, moving on, you know, he had newer tires, how to run at me at the end, he wasn't happy that I defended him, but I think we talked it over I mean, he and I have competed against each other for long enough that I'm not too worried, I don't think he is either, but overall it was a good day for an auto shop.
The Ford Mustang was not a great day. He took the lead on the restart and I thought he did what he needed and I felt like we played well on the restart lanes all day and it's probably not good enough. I feel like Thai saved fuel, probably saved some tires and definitely put himself a step ahead of AJ and I ultimately felt like AJ and I were pretty similar and we felt like maybe giving AJ a chance would give me an even better chance of placing. third, but that's how it's all tied up a good job and he deserves a win, oh what were they missing?
I thought it was uncharacteristic for this 22 car to take a road course lead late and abandon it. I mean what was missing in this car compared to that 54. The only feature, I mean, we finished in third place, we want to stay. you are, you are great. I know expectations are apparently very high, but no, it was a good day. It just seemed like we were a little bit out of speed. I feel like you know the Gibbs guys. I feel like colic. and AJ have really stepped up, so I feel like we may have been looking in the wrong areas, you know, the last two races and I have some good data points going forward, so they're not the best, but you know, I had a chance at 22 solid teams. third, finish some work to make the great day of racing that was today from The Glenn, the Xfinity series put on a great show as did the drivers and we are looking forward to two more great races tomorrow, it will be the cup series.
We'll start with the countdown to Green at two o'clock, racing here for the cup series at three o'clock and then it will be the Indycar series and the Music City Grand Prix of Nashville, which will be a great race, Steve, we look forward. to tomorrow, tomorrow and the cup series and you throw out Chase Elliott's name, you have to say he's the favorite, but is there someone out there like Ty Gibbs who could come in and ruin the show for him? That's the question, so today it was It's going to be AJ Almendinger and Austin Cindric, not so fast.
Ty Gibbs was tomorrow's man Chase Elliott or is his teammate Kyle Larson. We saw him win at Sonoma, maybe Christopher Bell came out ahead at Daytona or I even went lower. What about William Byron? True, he has yet to win on a road course driving Hendrick equipment that has proven to be fast. I know Elliot is the favorite, but it won't be a gift by chance. I think there are other drivers who can compete and push, remember two years. Since we've seen the cup cars here, I think that makes a big difference, it's a pretty good perspective from this racetrack, I would draw the guys one more time from the racetrack, we'll start with you, man, what are you waiting tomorrow?
Well I heard everything Stevie said, but when you have a guy who has won seven of the last 11 road course races and seems to be the king of the hill at these tracks, I'm going with Chase Elliott, for me it's Chase. against the rest of the field tomorrow my odds are going in the direction of car nine tomorrow, I disagree. I think I mean, I still think Chase is probably the best road course racer on the best team, but that gap has definitely closed and I think the Five cars will be there, 19 cars will be there.
It took the chase to expand a bit to really establish itself in some of the road course races this year. It was not a clear and easy victory. you have Kyle Busch deep in the field, explaining how he is going to be a player in this, he will have the car and we know he has the talent, Jeff, yes, Chase Elliott is a favor, but don't we forget the Las last two races, two surprise winners, why don't we have a third? I think so. I think these playoffs are going to be even tighter. I'm going to put pressure on the guys you know.
Look at that, think about this Richard thing. Childers competes with two guys there in the bubble trying to stay in the playoffs, another new winner completely changes things. I look forward to seeing it, great question: who used it for two weeks? It had a little two-week break now that we're racing again, that's right. Yes, and again, there are only three spots left in the cup series as far as the playoffs are concerned. Well, this one was definitely eventful and a great show once again from Glenn.
