FIRST DRIVE IN MY EVO 8 WITH ITS NEW MOTOR!

Apr 29, 2024
Alright my friends, yesterday we had the car engine running, not running, but we got the

first

start, but lo and behold, we have the worst oil leak in the world, so before you go

drive

this thing or try to

drive

it . Today we desperately need to fix what is bad. I have a pretty good idea of what might be going on, but let's dig into it and take a look so clearly something is going on with or under the intake man's crease if we zoom in here. and put a light on it, you see how everything is wet, something strange is happening there.

I think our best course of action will be to go ahead and remove the intake manifold from the car, so we need to pull the charge pipe. the fuel rail fuel injectors and then the intake man pleat may come loose again. Now I feel like I have a pretty good idea what the problem is, but I could be wrong, so I don't want to speculate, I just want to work and figure it out. Everything went very well, breaking the key bolt clamp also works. I initially thought the oil leak was coming from the oil pressure transmitter that is bolted to the back of the block, but upon closer inspection, of course, it turned out to be inaccurate.

More Interesting Facts About,

first drive in my evo 8 with its new motor...

It has been a super easy solution. I think I'm more disappointed because it's now very, very clean, the perfectly assembled engine bay is full of oil, that's the worst part of the situation. This card loves to leak. Good. The injectors are out. The fuel rail is out of the way. The last thing is to pull the manifold, well the manifold is loose and all I see is oil everywhere so that's not very good, it's a damn mess all over the top of the T-box, on the back from the top of the transmission engine, all wiring harness, everything is covered, man, pour inlet four, it's full of oil, definitely, something strange is going on, look at that, okay, let's dive real hard to see back there, so I'll probably use my phone and record myself or record myself. the back of the back of the head, okay, what's happening back here is the culprit, right up there, is where the bolt goes, in the middle, is where the oil plug would go down, is EGR , it looks like someone forgot the plug, you know, that sucks, obviously, it's an easy fix, but it's a little frustrating.

I guess you could say I'm not one to play the blame game, but when you pay a store to do all the mental work for you, I mean, they have nine of the outlets, I hope, I hope the ones that are under the valve cover they are inside, but they forget that one makes a mess. Now, granted, I was the engine assembler so I should have caught on, but it's still a bit annoying, let's find a plug, install it and then I need to spend some. I'm going to take a lot of time with a rag and brake cleaner and clean up all this oil, so I installed a new plug.

I'm going to go ahead and start the car with the intake manifold off and just to make sure that's the only leak, how would I do that? When starting out, there should be a little bit of fuel in the cylinders, which was interesting, to say the least. Okay, that was the only leak. Let's get it back. The car is fully assembled and as far as I know, it is on. that was the only problem the car had was just that oil leak, so now we should be able to go ahead and take a

first

trip here shortly.
It's running very very well, no leaks, but the C intake man had quite a bit of oil on it so he was expecting it to smoke, it had oil of course due to the missing plug. I was hoping it would smoke, it hasn't yet in the future because of that issue, but so far so good, let's go ahead and put it out and do some beautiful flowing things. The simple fix is frustrating but very very simple, it only took about 2 hours so let's continue bleeding the cooling system, luckily we only have running water now. If I had had antifreeze in here before it would have been a disaster because I had to remove the heater core hoses so I'm going to bleed the cooling system again, make sure the engine oil levels are good and we need to check the levels in the transmission in the tase, as well as in regards to the powertrain fluids.
Tase and trans I like to get in the car, start it, start it and let all the wheels spin for I don't know a minute and then go ahead, turn it off, let it cool and then check the levels from there. nice flexible wheel spacer okay let's call that a day on transmission fluid height this plug here take it out let it drain until it stops draining put it back on if nothing comes out either You are right with your level or you are a little low. I'll go so far as to say that we're probably a little bit low, so I'm going to add more liquid and do that process again, but let's do the T case.
The T case is that the plug right there, the transfer was definitely a little bit on the full side to Make sure the engine compartment is clean, everything is ready to go. I have one more piece to install before I leave. This took a while to sink in. Some of you might not think it's very cool, but I personally am a JDM Mitsubishi Fanboy I think it's incredibly cool, cool, oh yeah that's beautiful okay let's do this man it's been too long since I drove this car, I got the laptop in case a check engine light comes on or we need to do something in halltech but I'm going for a drive.
I already know that all levels of flu are ready. I want to accumulate at least 50 million today, so we have to drive a bit to make the moves. That's great. I swear every time I build a The car gets dirty on anything with the brakes the dust shield is always rubbing off its smell such an easy fix for such an annoying sound okay done oh man I miss driving this damn car, such a perfect car for Evo, at least how nice. The day is also incredibly nice, the afrs are great 1340 right now, the cruise wood pressure is beautiful, all the map changes we made were pretty much idle only so I didn't expect to be able to execute so well but It's great that it is so.
Moving on, stop by my PDR shop and take a look at those two DS's I put on the roof. Hopefully, he says he can fix them, so this is where I made two dents, two outward dents in the roof that they are. bolts that were too long look like they are workable they are sharp well yes they are workable but they are sharp enough big enough to have a high point that I will have to make a dent in which means I have to go back there and push it back in up, okay, so they disappear.
I'm glad to know that the external dents on my bolts can be fixed. It's great news. I arrived at my favorite place for when I finish a car. Oh. That's the shiny old PC, there we go, man, oh man, there's no way this thing can be working. I better made some more adjustments to the map. Now the high idle issue is fixed before when you start it it will stay on high idle for a second. or like 10 seconds and then a couple more little problems, all the feelings were dialed in, oh man, it feels so incredibly good.
I have no idea what things look like underneath. I assume there are no oil leaks. I haven't seen anything on the ground. I put 40M on it now and so far everything is good man and the check engine light shows on the dash there are no check engine lights on the htech so for some reason the htech doesn't talk to the dash . or there is some weird wiring there so I need to fix it and yeah that's it. I'm going back to the workshop right now. I'm dying to open the oil filter and take a look.
I'm going to do our oil change right now, cut the filter and make sure all the other fluids are ready if there isn't any kind of coolant leak. I can drain the water. Put real antifreeze in there. There are other little things this car doesn't do. It's not necessary, but he wants you to know, I ordered, I ordered my new seats, those haven't arrived yet, little things like that. You will receive a different Brembo BR large BRD kit. One of the panels needs to be repainted, of course. You need to tune the dye over ethanol, things of that nature, but I don't know if I'm going to do any of that.
I've worked on this car so much that I don't really mind working on it. Right now I just want to enjoy it and drive it. I would definitely drive home tonight, but number one, it's starting to rain right now and number two, it's really loud. Number two, we don't have a place in the garage, so for this car to run. At home it would need a spot in the garage, either one of the nsx or the sup has to come out, but let's go back to the shop, put it on the lift, make sure it's not leaking any kind of damn oil and then pull the filter, cut the filter, make sure nothing weird is happening there like it did last time, change the oil and go from there, maybe drive more.
I can't believe how well it's working, we had a problem with this version and I'll take the blame. I should have seen the damn missing oil filler cap, but if that's the only problem that's fine, I'll take it, we're back at the shop, the car is on the lift, everything looks nice and dry, Let's go ahead and remove the oil. filter cut it and see how things look now there will always be a little bit of something don't be alarmed by a little bit of something but if there is a lot of something there is a lot of sand aluminum left that stays inside your head destroying the journals of your cams so you have a problem if there is copper from your bearings that falls apart things like that you have a problem now fortunately we only have the typical foreign material I guess you couldn't say anything strange, nothing strange, just little black bits of whatever inside the filter itself is very clearly the ARP Fastener Lube.
You can see something right here. You see that gray thing there. Some airless Fastener Lube. Overall, I am very, very pleased with how it looks inside the filter. One more cold start for the guys make sure this idle is really dialed in on the cold start it's perfect the idle is perfect let's just stay here for a second and enjoy the sound of this engine everything sounds so good together the turbo the AGT 62k Turbo with an old BC stage three camshafts the EPS exhaust all that man it just flows so well together for the perfect sa evo8 it stopped raining it's a little cloudy I've worked on this car for too many hours not to enjoy it, in a few words, I'm I'm going to drain the water.
I'm going to put antifreeze back in and drive this home tonight. Why not? I love how on the COO radiator the drain is right at the bottom facing the ground instead of like a factory. where it faces the engine, I mean, it still hits the intercooler pipe when the coolant is drained, but it's better than spraying all over the damn engine. I returned the wing to that side marker. Just a couple of things to round this out. Once again, okay, let's jump in and get some momentum. She cuts 10 pounds of course I don't want to gain more than 10 pounds right now she only has 40 miles that's also another weird little thing since I put the halltech on it obviously htech controls the alternator now it acts like the alternator was going out according to our dash right battery light and brake light come on but what's really happening is it's overwhelming so it's seeing too much voltage according to htech and then it sheds those lights and It's also very clear that they need to be realigned, no big deal, that's all the sauce I want to give it right now.
I'm not going to rush it, man, oh man, it sounds so good and I don't think I need to mention this, but of course all the activation problems are now solved with the new activation system. We have the kly 12 minus a house or crank and the single Toth chamber. I'll probably put a couple hundred miles on this build before deciding. stop it on the dyno and start it only because like I said before, I'm sick of working on it and if the good old clutch burns out, if something happens to the dinosaur, that would suck good, my friends, I'm going to call it a day.
I upload the video right here. I hope you enjoyed how this thing didn't want to cooperate as much, but if you don't give up and keep fixing all the little problems, eventually you'll run out of problems to fix and I'll have a nice car to drive. It's pretty crazy thinking back a few months. All bolts, fasteners and clips were removed from this car. It was reduced to nothing. I'll throw a picture on the screen for those of you who are just tuning this build down to absolutely bare bones and it's so close to being 100% complete other than the camshaft line that it practically runs, idles and drives like a factory car, which is pretty impressive.
