Mar 14, 2024
Hello everyone, there is the inside, but now let's take a look at the new iPad pro 11. I also added all its expensive accessories so that we can get a complete picture of this new tablet from Apple and Let's delve into this in just a second, but I want to let you know, in the interest of full disclosure, that I paid for everything here with my own funds. All opinions you are about to hear are not mine. You're paying for this

This is an 11-inch screen, it's 23 88 by 16 68 in its resolution, that's 264 dots per inch and if you compare it to the previous addition, the iPad Pro 10.5, it's about the same size here, maybe just a a little wider, but they are practically the same dimensions, but the screen is larger. You basically get half an inch of screen here because they made the bezels that you can see on the side of the old iPad thinner and one of the things that Apple has been really good at. This is detecting what your intention is, so even though my thumb is resting on the screen, it knows that it's not my intention to touch here, so you can get away with these thinner bezels on Apple devices and we don't .

They often see the same thing on competing devices, they are just smarter at detecting your location on the screen, as a result, here you don't gain any real physical space and now you have something that has a bigger screen than them. done with the 12-inch version of this has actually made it physically smaller with the same screen size, so if you thought the 12-inch iPad was too big before, you might want to go in and take a look and see if it's a little better now, the price of this, although not cheap, starts and I got the lowest end here at $7.99 with 64 gigabytes of internal storage, there is no way for the user to expand that storage, for So basically you should get the size you need when you start, it goes up to one thousand five hundred and forty-nine dollars for a one terabyte model and the interesting thing is that the one terabyte model has six gigabytes of RAM, but all the other models have four gigabytes, like this one has the 12 inch one and it starts at around $1000 and from there it goes up pretty expensive just to get the tablet and then of course we have the accessories so the

keyboard

case that I just left here costs one hundred and seventy-nine dollars for this addition and on the 12-inch model. the

keyboard

will cost you two hundred dollars, but we're not done yet because you probably also want to buy the Apple

pencil

and if you had another iPad that had the

pencil

, the old pencil doesn't work with the new iPad you have to buy. the new pencil for $129, so you can see very quickly how the cost increases here with this entry-level iPad with the keyboard on the pencil.

I'm interested in around eleven hundred dollars right now, which is pretty much a mid-range laptop. price, so I think you have to determine what your individual computing needs are. If you need

more

computing functionality than a computer, it's the best way to go, but if you're a light user and consume a lot of content, maybe the iPad is a little better. just because you get a very high

performance

machine, as you'll see in a few minutes, with great battery life, they've significantly changed the overall look of the iPad, it no longer has rounded edges. I think they have rounded edges. right off the bat here, so you can see, it's very flat compared to the previous version which had some roundness on the edges.

I found it's a little easier to get the old one off the desk surface just because this one sits quite flat, but that's a minor complaint, it feels pretty good in the hand, although it does seem a little thicker than the previous edition, though It's not as curved, sometimes it can be a little misleading, so it's a little thinner, it weighs around 1.03 pounds or 468 grams, it goes up to 1.7 pounds or 773 grams with the keyboard case, so which is very, very light, but there aren't many ports on this one, in fact, there's only one port which is a USB type-c port here on the bottom and we'll see what kind of things we can do with that USB type-c port in a few minutes.
The good news is that you can now use non-Apple accessories, whereas before you needed at least some kind of Apple dongle to get anything. works so that might be a plus here it will also charge faster through that USB C port compared to the standard power adapter you used to get with the iPad battery life though it's about the same, about 10 hours if you are doing something basic. You'll do less tasks with it if you're gaming or editing videos or some other tasks that will put a bit

more

strain on the internal processor and there's no headphone jack on the new iPad here, so you'll need some sort of wireless or USBC headphones. headphones to listen to your music there are no adapters included in the box another thing missing from the new iPad is the home button but now it has Face ID, which is something we first saw on the iPhone 10 and what happens when you want to log in to your iPad, just tap the screen or press the power button, look at the screen and it will unlock for you, it will unlock in any of the orientations so it's very quick to unlock everything once it detects your face, swipe up and you're ready to go if you're inside an app and want to exit that app, swipe up from the bottom like on the iPhone 10.
You can also go to the multitasking screen here and select open apps with just press drag up like this and you can jump back and forth to different apps, it takes a little getting used to, but when I bought my iPhone 10 last year I was surprised that it didn't feel bad, it actually felt very natural and It won't take me long to get used to and of course without having the button there you won't be able to reach it, so if you're a creature of habit you may have to adjust a bit here but it's not difficult.
Enter it and split screen works much like it does on other iPad models that have the home button. Simply lift up the little dock here at the bottom, select the app you want to split screen, and drag it to the corner. here and then make it work, the problem is that many apps do not support split screen on iPad even though this feature has been enabled for quite some time, so you will find some things that don't work, some things that do work and you'll have to deal with that and another thing you'll notice on the new iPad pro is that not all apps are optimized for the new screen, so for example, if we go into the YouTube Studio app here, you'll see that I now have bezels on the left and right side of the screen just because this app still doesn't recognize full screen and I was surprised because a lot of apps that were kind of flagship iPad Pro apps like Affinity Photo and many others still don't seem to work with these larger screens and you would have I thought some of those developers would have been on all the new devices here, but that's not the case, so over time.
I'm sure you'll get something, but right now you might not get much from the new screen until your favorite apps are updated for the new iPad, like previous versions of the iPad, there's a camera here on the back, It's a 12. megapixel sensor with a 1.8 aperture, it will do 4k videos at 60 frames per second, but they removed the optical stabilization which was a feature that was on the previous version of the iPad pro. This new one doesn't, so your videos may not look as good if you're walking, for example. You'll have better luck with your iPhone, which has optical stabilization on many models, or with the older version on the front, you have the face ID sensor which also has a It also has a 7 megapixel camera for the front camera, it will record 1080p videos at up to 60 frames per second and it also supports portrait mode because it has that face sensor, it actually works quite well here , you can see what that looks like ice overall, not a bad camera system here, but I would have liked to see some optical stabilization just because the previous version had it, but one thing I liked about the new iPad is how well it accessories are integrated.
They don't feel like screws anymore, it's a really nice, tight integration, so on the back of the new iPad you have three Pogo sockets that will line up with the pins here on the official keyboard cover. I imagine there will probably be a third. -Party cases too, that's what you do is you just place your iPad on it, there are some magnetic guides to put it in place and then you just fold up the keyboard and you're ready to use the keys, although they will touch each other. the screen, that's not a big deal, they're not metal or anything, but it could leave a fingerprint if you have dirt on the keys or some grease on the screen.
The previous one had a felt surface and the keyboard would be damaged. unfold it, so this is a different approach, although the difference of course is that you no longer have this bulge here, it's a very consistent keyboard cover and now it also has protection on the back and front, but I think you could see some keys printed on it. Another thing I like is that you have two different options for the screen, so you can put it at a tighter angle like this or have it go a little more diagonal here by locking it down. way and the keys actually stay flat on the desktop.
My old one here started out fine but then over time the keyboard keys pop up a bit from the desktop here and it was getting pretty annoying and Apple didn't fix it for me either. Despite paying so much for it a year ago, this keyboard has been very flat so far and I think it might hold up a little better than the other one, but again, those keys will touch the surface of the screen, another thing. That can be a little disconcerting is that if you put it in tablet mode like this with the keyboard attached, your fingers will rest on the keys here on the back of the device and it won't register any key presses, so when I press those keys.
At this point you see that nothing is registering on the screen, it may seem a little strange to you but in reality this is normal for what I have seen on many Windows tablets and two in one, you have the keys by simply deactivating them and they can be pressed but nothing will happen so again on the other keyboard I had a felt surface and the good news is that the typing experience on these keyboard cases is still very good, it is difficult for me to type and talk at the same time but it is It feels exactly the same way the other keyboard cases have felt in this form factor, good tactile response to the small but well spaced keys and it's very easy to get used to this and type quite quickly.
I was pleased with the way I didn't really change the keyboard. Not at all, at least as far as feel goes, it was a good thing and I'm also very pleased with the way the new Apple Pencil integrates with the new iPad; It's no longer something where you have to plug the stylus into the back. of your iPad to charge it is much more elegant now, so on the new iPad here all you have to do is take the flat surface of the new pencil, place it on the side and it will not only recognize that it is there, but it will start charging it and that's because there's a capacitive surface here, it'll even do firmware updates through it, so it's a really nice integration here.
The Apple Pencil has always been a great writing tool for a tablet, probably the best in the industry, very low latency. I have pressure sensitivity, you can even make thicker lines here by putting it to the side, so they have a lot of cool drawing apps for it, really nice, very, very low latency with a 120 Hertz screen on this thing, I'm very, very satisfied with I only wish I was a better artist. The other thing you can do now is tap the side of the pen here and it will switch between tools and developers will also be able to make use of this double tap in other areas so you can Here's a really nice upgraded pen, but again you have to buy a new one. for $129 because the old one doesn't work with the new iPad.
Now the big story with this new iPad is that it is dramatically faster than last year's. iPad and whether or not you'll notice it as a consumer remains to be seen mainly because they hadn't really tapped into the full potential that the old iPad had and now we have even more speed available to us so we can do things like Web browsing here is very, very fast. We'll switch to video editing here with iMovie. This is a 4k video at 60 frames per second. I have it loaded on an iPad now.same. I can jump here and even change filters here. on the fly and get real-time previews essentially of this 4k video at 60 frames per second, we can transition here.
I've got a photo running with a Ken Burns effect and then we'll move into another little transition and then another 4k at 60 frames. per second, so all in all it's really very fast at doing this kind of thing, mainly because Apple's processors have been optimized for this kind of work and sometimes it's funny that I can do some things with 4k video on my iPad which are faster than my MacBook Pro can be at times and it's one of the optimizations you get here, but again, what you just saw we've been doing on iPads for a couple of years so I really think it's something in you probably won't see the full potential of this iPad and maybe the next one will come out, playing on it is pretty good and we also have this game that they were running at the Apple event the other day, this is MBA 2k-19, Although interestingly it doesn't take advantage of the full screen but the graphics really look good, it's running at a pretty solid frame rate here.
I'm noticing a few drops here and there, but overall it's running at a super fast frame rate. The graphics look pretty good in this game here and unfortunately I'm I don't think many people are big iPad gamers, but if you like a lot of mobile games you think you'll be fine here, but keep in mind that most developers don't. They focus on the power you have available. On this iPad, they're targeting the iPads that most people have, so I don't think you'll see many apps that really take advantage of this device specifically and in the 3dmark Sling Shot benchmark we got.
An incredible score of 13,000 172, it's just light years faster than last year's iPad Pro 10.5. With that same test, I couldn't believe how much more

performance

they've packed into this thing, just a year later it's pretty remarkable, you too can see how it compares to the most powerful Android tablet we've seen, the Nvidia Shield k1 from a year ago. couple of years, and it's also faster than the Nvidia Shield TV set-top box. Both are Android devices when it comes to gaming. "This has a ton of potential, one of the things they said at the keynote is that it has what you would expect from an Xbox, you know, the entry level Xbox 1 and I would actually believe that based on what we have." I'm seeing in some of those benchmarks that it's a very capable tablet and I'm not sure we'll ever see anything that really takes advantage of it and I was hoping that Apple could have some select apps in their app. store that would allow you to play with some of the potential that this iPad has that the others can't, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything that gives you a better demonstration of the power available other than that benchmark, but Once again, we have a lot of potential here that will probably never be tapped.
One last thing we need to check and that is how well it works with USB Type C devices. I have chosen several that are not Apple devices. relatively inexpensive stuff to experiment with, so this first one here is a basic DisplayPort USB Type-C 2 from Amazon and what Apple says in their product specs is that the USB Type-C output here will handle a 5k display at most, but it will be able to make 4k displays at 60 Hertz so you can see everything appeared immediately, there is very little latency while I move, it will show a 4k video at 60 frames per second that I recorded with the iPad, it seems to be playing correctly.
Here on the screen using DisplayPort, that's great, we were able to work with a relatively cheap adapter there, so that was great to see. I'm going to pull this out now and switch to this little plug-in card reader that I use on my macbook pro above. I have a card here from my drone so I'm going to put it on the side of the iPad here and I think what we should include in this is the ability to import some photos or videos and it's I have a bunch of videos that my drone recorded on there so which was a nice thing to see, so we're good with that for the next experiment.
Here's something a little bigger. This is a flagship technology, a kind of mini base that requires power delivery. and then it has an HDMI output along with a USB hub here and Ethernet, so let's plug this in real quick and see what we get, so we'll plug it in and we're getting power. Now it seems I just have to turn on the modes. the monitor here to go to the HDMI input and once it does that we should be back to where we were before and we're good to go so I'm going to go ahead and play the video here via HDMI so we have a multifunction dock with power supply which seems to be working fine, the only thing that doesn't work on this particular base is Ethernet and this might be something you run into in some of the things you experiment with, it just won't turn on. for me that was a concern but I had another ethernet adapter that worked and I have this card reader plugged into the USB 3.0 port in the middle of that dock and if I go to my card reader and just insert the card in there this is the same card that we had on the other device here, which will appear and start importing things.
The big problem, although it works with all this great external storage, is that you can't actually get it. access anything on the card or a hard drive, for example, so if you're editing videos you need to have enough space on your iPad to get started, right now you can't access the file system beyond simply importing it. that you want to download. of its cards and all, it was a disappointment, but I found that it worked with a USB type-c Ethernet adapter that I also bought from Amazon, so it's good to see that you now have more options.
I just wish Apple would open this up to include a little more flexibility so that maybe you can use some external storage for some apps that need it. This will be enough for the iPad pro 11. This is a major upgrade if you are looking for a new iPad and have not bought one for a while, it is definitely a significant upgrade over the previous iPad 10.5 edition and I think if you bought one recently , see if you can redeem it and get this one from Apple, sometimes they give you some freedom when a new product is released. advertised because this is much better, what I like about this is that it is better integrated, all the Suri here seem to have a home, now the pen docks and charges and now you have a really nice experience with the keyboard case.
It's not as good on the previous version, the screen here of course takes up the entire front of the device now with very small bezels getting in the way, it's just an attractive and well executed product and this new design I really think is a much better approach. to the iPad compared to the previous version, what you will probably never take advantage of is the processing power it has inside; it may take a while for the developers to catch up and get us something that can really make use of all the power inside this iPad, the developers of course don't sell their apps for that much money, so they have to aim for what most consumers have, which isn't an iPad, is so fast, so I don't know if we'll ever see anything. that will really give us a good example of what the device is capable of and when you see that it will be much less expensive to get that same power in an iPad, so if you buy this, I think the functionality is going to be much more important than the performance, but it's there if anyone ever decides to take advantage of it, but overall, again, a really nice solid design here from Apple, although I will say that for me I don't use iPads.
As creative devices, I typically do all my production work on a computer, so it's hard for me, you know, to make a recommendation on whether or not you should replace your laptop with this. I know that for some people like my mom, she can get a lot. done on your iPad and that's great but I think it's really a personal decision and you have to figure out what works best for you so for me it's not a good idea to replace a computer with an iPad but for some people that might be the way they want to go and I think this gets us a little bit closer to a device like this replacing what we normally think of as a computing device.
