TESTING Dark Soul Axle Extenders on HPI BAJA 5T + FAIL SAFE ISSUES ??

Apr 10, 2024
Hey guys, what's happening is RC knockout and now I'm back with another video. If you are new to my channel, my name is Nolan. In today's video I took out my HPI Baja 5T and today we are going to test it. I did an upgrade that I just did, it's actually an upgrade that I've had for the last four or five years, but I've been going back and forth on whether to install it or not, so what I actually installed were

axle

extenders

from one brand. It's called Dark Soul, so if you notice that normally my knuckles and lug nuts on my wheels are orange because that's what color these originals are and I like that color, it helped me with some contrast between the black wheels, so I like the orange. and as you can see by all the aluminum parts on this machine, I've been going for an orange and black theme, but ended up putting in the Dark Soul ones.

I didn't show an installation video in detail. of this video is that we are going to test it with the new Dark Soul

axle

extenders

in the front and rear. I'm going to go ahead and rotate it so you can see it from the front view. say anything from the side view, it doesn't matter, it's already dirty. I just did a tug of war that you'll see in another video. I had a war between this and my HPI Baja 5b, so it may be hard to tell. Let me take my camera off the mount, but it's definitely sitting wider, it's definitely sitting wider now, so these black shaft extenders can't be seen there.

More Interesting Facts About,

I actually have disc brakes on the front of this one, you can probably see them better on the rear and this is where I had To get a little creative with the rear, I had to put a nut and bolt through the knuckle of the actual axle, the pin didn't fit the pin I was using on the originals so I had to get creative but since the wheel didn't go up that part it wasn't a problem putting a nut on the back but it definitely won some width. Let me know in the comments below. I'm going to go ahead and insert a picture of what it looked like with the orange short shafts and then I'll go back to see what it looks like now and continue, let me know in the comments if you prefer the black look or if you prefer the orange look.

There's a lot of weight up top, it weighs 37. pounds and when that weight moves you really need a little bit of a wider stance, so like I said, I don't know the exact dimensions. I guess we gained about an inch in total width, but it looks really amazing, so here I go. What I need to do is go ahead and break it up and let's just try it out, maybe turn some cones around and see how it handles with the wider supports. Okay, I just started, so let's get started. so i did a speed test with this, oh it went out.

I did a speed test with this and I think I got up to 54 or 55 miles per hour with this gear, so this thing is extremely fast. I'll move on. Put a card in the corner if you want to watch that video, but yeah, you could probably use a little adjusting, but I forgot my screwdriver. I don't have a screwdriver with me of all things, but I think as long as I keep the idle she uh will keep running mm-hmm it definitely feels a lot more balanced you can see it lifting the inner wheel I never used to do that would have made my face go blank strange it turns out that I'm not very good at slalom courses I think we're done with the ground, of course, I'm terrible, especially one-handed, let's just do a ripper on the grass, actually, let's do a throw.
Ready, let's go, okay, hey, yeah, she's lifting that inner wheel. She never used to do that, she looks so cool, yeah, there she would have given him a normal, normally foreign, tip herself. Yes, she feels much more stable. It's crazy how much an inch wide can spin. We'll do a flyby, right? I think. I just have to keep the revs up, she'll still run fine, okay, I revved too much and it cut my power. I spun too much that time. I'm wondering if I'm having a range problem because my

is holding up. By the way, if you're enjoying this video, especially with the gas machines, go ahead and hit that like button, make sure to subscribe, hit that bell, and stay tuned for future videos, she's just laughing at it. she tree and cut my power again.
I think it's almost a reach thing that's happening guys, because it's when I get a certain distance away, she's killing my power, that's a little weird. I've never had a problem with

safe

ty on this thing unless you might just need new batteries, but we're sitting on 5.7 volts and I just charged this pack right before coming here so the pack is fully charged on the receiver, look, but see, it's beeping, listen, that's where I just received. My power comes back on so it's literally activating my safety mechanism so it's turning off the engine so it's like I have a range issue.
Let me know in the comments if you know what might be going on. I've never had a range problem with this. What Futaba has very good range. This is running a Futaba 4pv uh transmitter. I don't know what the receiver is, but something Futaba, but we still have some kind of weird range problem. I'm running a um I think it's called a killer. BRC uh kill switch unless the kill switches are off, you can see it down here this is a kill switch right here the green lights are on I wonder what's up with that. I would ruin it right now but because of this cage and then On top of that I have the front brake system this link is not very flexible so the link doesn't want to move so in order to get into the receiver box I have I have to undo the link, which I don't really do. want to do, that's why I'm not going to play with it now.
I'm just going to replace the batteries in the transmitter and see if maybe that makes it better, maybe a new set of batteries will make this work better because I don't know what's going on. I have never had this problem with the interlock before. It doesn't seem like a connection problem, it seems like a range problem. I went ahead and replaced the transmitter batteries, so it's now at 6.4 volts. We'll see if that makes any difference, get it started again, see if our range has improved or if it's something else with the security system itself, no, right there, it just got a signal back, so we're having some kind of signal problem.
I think it could be the kill switch, it's actually just tripping, let's do another launch, that's it, if it's not a safety issue, I really don't know, it could be a receiver issue, we could have a receiver issue, like this I'm going to move on, finish this video. Don't worry guys, I'll figure this out and we'll get it out again, but if you enjoyed this video, hit that like button, subscribe, hit that bell, stay tuned for future videos later.
