My honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom

May 02, 2024
Well, the other day I was sitting across from

someone

at dinner and this was a guy who was in his 30s and worked as a school teacher and he mentioned to me that he wanted to be

financial

ly free and that he had been following my stuff. for a few years and I knew I talked about this kind of stuff and I knew I'm flexible from time to time about how much money I have and how big my businesses are and all that kind of stuff and I wanted

advice

on how to be

financial

ly free. and I had a lot of things, you know, we talked about a lot of things over dinner and then it made me think that I get this question a lot when I give talks and things that people come to do.
my honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom
Then to chat and a lot of them will have this goal of financial

freedom

, so I thought I'd do a little bit of heat to heat, let's say, I had my little cup of tea, um, if you're watching this and you have the goal of financial

freedom

. This would be my sincere

advice

now, in case you are new to the channel. Hi, my name is Ali and I used to be a doctor. He had a day job in the UK's National Health Service. earning around £40,000 $50,000 a year and after doing that for 2 years I decided to take a little break from medicine to focus full time on my YouTube channel and my business and in fact I've been documenting the journey of starting. from medical student to junior doctor, full-time entrepreneur and author.

More Interesting Facts About,

my honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom...

I also wrote a book that I've been documenting on this YouTube channel for the last 7 years so you can literally see how to follow the progress since then. I was a cute little medical student with a gap between my front teeth, I barely made any money and now I have a team of about 20 people and I run my own business, and now I'm in a position where I would consider myself so-so financially free, so I feel like there are some potentially useful things I can offer to

someone

who

wants

to be in that position. Well, point number one is that we should really think about why you want financial freedom, what does it mean?
my honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom
Freedom gives you something you don't have yet because money is just a psychological and social construct. Financial freedom is also a psychological and social construct. What specifically do you want financial freedom to buy now, in my case, in the early stages of my journey when I had a day job there was something very specific that I wanted I wanted I wanted to be able to work part time the happiest doctors I knew were the ones who worked 3 days a week instead of 6 days a week, so I thought I'd maximize my chances of happiness and fulfillment, which is what I think we all want at the end of the day.
my honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom
You know, I quite enjoy being a doctor, but I see myself not enjoying it if I had to do it full time, so I just wanted to have a way to make a few thousand more a month, a few thousand a month because that would buy my freedom to be able to work three days a month. week and not having to worry about whether I should really take that extra shift because, for example, mortgage payments are a little high today and the cost of living crisis and all that kind of stuff for me Financial freedom meant buying my free time I felt that if I were not financially free then I would be almost by definition financially chained to something and that something turned out to be my day job this is the position we are in most of us are financially chained to what we do to work now for the most of us that is a job for a single employer now this is not necessarily a The terrible thing is that there are many people I know who love their lives and are very happy and very fulfilled, at the same time they are proverbially financially chained to a single employer .
Several people on my team have changed financially in many ways for me as an employer, but several people on my team have changed financially in many ways. The people on my team seem to really enjoy their work because the work involves freedom and flexibility to a certain extent and they can work from anywhere and they do work that they think is meaningful, and that's because you know, Good Vibes, similarly, a lot people. I know who works in startups, not the incredibly high growth, really stressful kind, but you know small businesses, a little bit of a lifestyle, they also really enjoy their jobs and have a lot of happiness and satisfaction even though they're technically financially chained to one employer, so why.
I'm saying this is all because when it comes to this desire for financial freedom, we really want to understand why what we're looking for here is that you want to be able to work part-time at your job. to be able to quit your job completely is that you want the lifestyle that you think the rich have is that you want a private jet is that you want a yacht is it that you want a house with the mortgage paid off so you don't have to worry about paying the mortgage, I just don't know, he

wants

to be able to take his family on four vacations a year and ideally fly on business to CL, whatever it is, everyone has different financial motivations.
Freedom, so it's worth finding out what those motivations are and the reason it's worth finding out what those motivations are is because financial freedom runs the gamut, someone can be financially free on $2,000 a month if, for example , you live in Pakistan, which is where? I'm from and you're earning I don't know 3 or 4 thousand dollars a month. You will feel pretty free financially if you live in New York City or Pal Alto or Central London and earning 3-4k a month you will feel like you are on the poverty line, it just depends similarly If your lifestyle costs the kind of things you would do if you had all the money in the world.
Don't cost a lot of money again, you'll feel financially free with a much smaller amount of money, but the kinds of things you want to do if you had all the money in the world require spending large amounts of cash on Ys and fools. Peron is an expensive drink Dum Peron Crystal I've heard of Crystal, whatever, vosy, whatever these rappers buy, if that's your idea of a good time, you're going to need more money to feel financially free. What is far from this is that financial freedom is a feeling more than a reality and we want to discover what are the boxes that we would take that would give us that feeling and then once we have discovered those boxes, we can reverse engineer how much money .
Do we need to feel financially free? It's not the only part of the equation. There is also a good amount of internal work. I know people who have tens of millions in the bank and don't feel financially free at the moment. It's clearly not about the money. it's about the inner work, but when I was sitting across from this guy at dinner, let's call him John, and he said his goal was to be financially free and I was like, "Okay, and in my mind we're going through all this psychological stuff." He was going through my mind to ask are you sure that's the goal? why is that the goal? what's the real reason what do you expect to buy the financial freedom that you don't currently have etc etc but it was pretty obvious in John's case is that he had a job that he enjoyed but he didn't enjoy all the time he had with his kids and You would ideally like to be able to do whatever you want so you can spend more time with the kids and be able to go on vacation and not feel tied to a job that requires you to be in a particular place at a particular time every day, which is fair enough, so I asked John the following question, which is and this is the advice that I would give if someone was looking for financial freedom after they figured out why you really care, what is the dollar amount that you think you need right now? to feel financially free?
I guarantee that that number will change as you get closer to it, but that's Well, we'll pick a number for now because it's helpful to have a goal to aim toward and then in the process of working toward that goal, we'll shift the goalposts. goal and that's totally fine, in fact, I would say pause. Watch the video now and think about how much money you need in income before expenses and all that. How much money do you need to bring in each month to feel financially free? It's worth thinking about what that number is right now for me.
I would have said, oh man, if I could make 5k a month in passive income I would feel really financially free, so by the way it's 60k a year, once you've gotten to a point where you've earned all this money and you have achieved financial freedom then you will definitely want a place to invest that money which is where the sponsor of this video comes in and that is trading 212 Trading 212 is a fantastic app that I personally use that allows you to invest in stocks and shares. He talks about how, as you become the type of person that can make 5k a month in passive income. your identity changes, you learn new skills and you literally become a new person, so when you reach 3 4 4 and 2k a month, the type of person you are is no longer content with just 5K a month, so the goal becomes 10,000 a month or 20,000 or 50,000 or 100,000 or a million a month or you know whatever and again it's less about the money and more about the type of person you're on your way to becoming, along the way to be able to make that amount of money, so that was a bit of a tangent, but the point is let's pick a number and then figure out what we need to get there, so in John's case I didn't want to go too far overboard by turning this into a session complete business coaching with John and, as if you knew what he said when I asked him what his number is, he said: "Oh man, if I could have a million pounds in the bank in the next 8 years then I would do it." feel really financially free and when he said a million in the bank at 45 I thought there is more exploration to be done here, we have to unravel the reasons why a million is a special number for many people, a million is a round number really nice because it's like, oh, it's a million, it feels like a lot of money, all this kind of stuff and it absolutely is a lot of money, but I suspect with a little more back and forth conversations if John and I were having a session We could have reduced that number because we could have found ways for John to feel financially free even without a million in the bank, so there were a lot of things I was thinking about. that front, but let's stick with it, let's say your goal for financial freedom is I want a million in the bank in the next 8 years, okay, so we want to reverse engineer that, so how much money do we have to make each year ?
Well, millions divided by 8 is 125,000 now, to have a million in the bank, that 125,000 presumably needs to be in savings and therefore you actually need to earn, say, 250,000 a year to be able to pay all your taxes and all their expenses and stuff or maybe we should say 200,000 to be left with 125,000 in savings, so reverse engineering this John needed £200,000 a year in income to reach his goal of being a millionaire in the next 8 years, okay we're good. We have established that we need 200,000, this is what is called a goal and it is useful to have a correct goal, like Warren Buffett has a great quote, I think it is from Warren Buffett, which says that you can do anything, but you can't do everything .
There are like a million things you can do right now. Yes, you literally have infinite possibilities in life, but if you have a clear goal, then that narrows your list of possibilities down to assuming you want to achieve the goal and things that would help you. get to the goal now I have a kind of conceptual framework for this thing I call plan and GPS goal system by the way, this is the kind of thing I'm teaching in my upcoming productivity course in my productivity lab, which is a new community . for aspiring and ambitious entrepreneurs, creators and professionals, who will be linked tobelow if you want to check it out, productivity.com anyway, GPS stands for goal plan system, meaning what is the goal, great, what is the plan and how are we going to achieve it. to the target and then what is the system for how we are going to deliver on the plan now in this case let's say the target was £200,000 in revenue each year again we can object all we want about why behind the target we should really have the goal of being a millionaire in the next 8 years, does it really matter who really cares, etc.?
We can argue about that, but let's assume that there are many objections that can be made with financial goals. I love arguing with people about their financial goals, but like, let's put that aside, so let's say we have that goal of £200,000 a year, that's the goal. Okay, so we think about what is the plan, what is the plan that you are currently following and what is the plan that you need. follow to reach that goal Everyone always follows a plan, whether they are aware of it or not. In John's case, his goal was 200,000 a year, but the plan he followed was to be a teacher at a secondary school in London and earn, I suspect. somewhere between 50-70k, maybe a little less than that, so let's say he's making 50k just to argue that Jon's plan is on track to make 50k a year in income.
Jon's goal is 200 thousand a year in income. Okay, great, we've established it. very clearly that there is a discrepancy between the goal that John has and the plan that Jon is following to get there, so in your case what is the goal that you have and what is the plan that you are currently following and there is no plan either ? a plan, for example, in my case, if my goal was to get six-pack abs and the plan I was currently following was to eat hamburgers every day and never go to the gym and do 500 steps today, clearly that plan is not going to help me achieve it. the sixpack ABS goal, so when we notice in this GPS model that there is a discrepancy between the goal we say we want and the plan we are currently following to get to that goal, at that point we have to make a choice: do you want change the goal or do you want to change the plan because you can't have a goal?
I mean, you can, but like you're just setting yourself up for unhappiness and misery if you clearly have a goal that you really want, but the plan you're following isn't actually going to get you there, so let's try to align these things. What I want is to live an aligned life, you know, align the things we're doing right now with, like, where. We want to move forward in the future, something I talk about in my book Feelgood Productivity, which is about how to do more of what matters to you without burning out and in a way that is really fun, sustainable and meaningful.
You can check the link. down, so there is a discrepancy between the goal and the plan. I asked John. I told John. It seems we have a discrepancy, mate, between the goal you say you want and the plan you're currently following. I mean, you're a teacher at a school in London, so which one would you like to change? Would you like to change the goal or would you like to change the plan? The answer is not obvious here if, for example, John really, really liked being an RA professor and loved it. his life and loved the fact that he has half the year off during the school holidays, where he can spend time with his family and do things around the house, etc.
Great, John could decide, you know what? I really want to continue being an AR teacher. and therefore I totally agree with changing the goal my goal will not be a financial goal my goal will be a fulfillment goal I'm not going to worry about getting a million in the next 8 years instead, I'm going to worry, I will focus on taking care of my health and making sure I can show up in full presence for my family, my wife and children, etc., etc. That's totally fine if you want to change your goal. I think it's amazing because there's nothing sadder than working toward a goal and only discovering when you're close to it or when you're getting there, that actually the goal itself wasn't what you really wanted, you wanted something else, and That is why I am very optimistic, like when I have these types of conversations with people and the result is that they change the objective.
I feel very happy because I have just saved you a ridiculously large amount of time, effort and pain because in one fell swoop I have decided to change the goal you are working towards, the goals we work towards, the goals we choose to work towards They are literally what dictates our entire life, because when you set a goal or set an intention, it usually, hopefully, informs the actions you are taking to achieve it and those actions are what really give you your daily life experience; It's not really about reaching the goal, like whether or not your company is valued at 100 thousand or a million or a billion, these arbitrary numbers are not going to change your life, the actions you are actually taking day to day are the ones that change your life, so if a person has a goal of reaching a billion dollar valuation for their startup and that causes them to burn the Midnight Oil and completely torpedo their health and their relationships to get there that person is going to be miserable compared to the person who for example had the goal of being able to earn enough money to support his family and then things.
What they were doing day to day was like taking care of your physical health taking care of your mental health taking care of your emotional health taking care of your family introducing yourself to your family and friends doing hobbies having fun that person would be much happier than the person who set the goal and then destroyed their life to get there, so it's totally okay to change the goal if you want, it's totally okay to not have the Financial Freedom goal or lower the numbers again for me, the Financial goal. Freedom meant 3 to 5k a month if I had 3 to 5k a month I would get passive income I have been on the moon I really feel financially free all that obsession with 10k a month 100k a month million a month all that stuff I just started getting further ahead.
I wouldn't say it's an obsession for me, but there seems to be a lot of stuff on the internet like, hey, you know, get your first 10K, get your first 100K, you have to be at least a millionaire by 20 or at least a deca-millionaire by 20. 30 and all this kind of stuff. I think this all sort of misses the point. Yes, financial freedom has value. Yes, there is value in not having to worry about paying bills, but these arbitrary numbers. they are just arbitrary and if you can lower the bar to reach the goal, if your goal is easier to reach, then you will be more likely to achieve it and maybe in many ways you will be more likely to enjoy the journey to get there, so work your way back away.
A bit, we have established a discrepancy between the goal of 200,000 a year and the plan that currently takes them to 50,000 a year. Do you want to change the goal or do you want to change the plan, which is in John's case? He said: hm, no. I want to change the plan because I want that goal, so okay, great, now we get to the interesting stuff, so I asked Joh, okay, so what's your plan? What is your plan to earn 200,000 a year? and he said, "Okay, well, me." I guess I could invest in real estate. I thought, "Okay, how is investing in real estate going to get you 200 grand a year?
Because right now you're making 50, you have very little free time, and you want to use that free time to invest in real estate and that." it'll make him an extra 150k a year for the next 8 years reliably and he was like H, like he could tell he hadn't really thought about this, he was just picking up real estate because it's a thing people have heard about. oh, invest in property and you'll get rich, it's like and I said, do you have millions or tens of millions sitting around waiting to be used in real estate as an investment?
He said no, obviously. No, I said okay. so real estate as an investment to take you to an extra 150k a year is probably not the way to go and he said okay yeah you're right but what else could we do What are some other plans to get? ?to the goal now I really like a model by Alex Hosi on this, he was the first person I heard talk about this, which is once you've set a goal and you've figured out where you are currently, so you have the goal. that is there and you have where you are currently, that is here once you have figured it out you just need to figure out what are the different plans or paths that take you from A to B now if not you don't know what those plans are or what those routes are , you have a knowledge problem, if you know what those routes are but you are not executing them, you have a crucial execution problem, in John's case, he did not have an execution problem, he actually had a knowledge problem, he couldn't tell me what are some viable paths to go from 50k to 200k, I just didn't have the knowledge and I think this is an underrated aspect of all this, like making money, financial freedom, entrepreneurship type space, a lot of people say things like you don't need to learn nothing, you just need to execute, you just need to take action and I agree to some extent that there is something in all of this which is the law of equal and opposite advice, which is that one piece of advice that works for a person, the advice The complete opposite might be what works for someone else, so some people consume too much information and never take action, but others don't consume enough information to even know what. actions to take first and this is the position that John was in, so in your case you're looking at this hopefully because you're someone who wants financial freedom or you're just interested in seeing, huh?
I wonder what he will say about what, but imagine your goal and imagine the plan you are currently following. Could you tell me what are 10 different options to achieve that goal? What are 10 different viable options to get to that goal from where? currently you have to reach the goal, if the answer is yes then you choose one of them, you choose the one that has the most chance of success and try it, but if the answer is no you can't name it. at least 10 different parts that will get you there you have a knowledge problem you don't know enough to know what you don't know you don't know enough to be able to map forward this was the case with John he was like well I could make an investment in real estate, okay, we've established that doesn't work.
He said, "Okay, uh, I guess I could start some kind of business." I was like, "Oh, okay, interesting, what kind of business would you like to start?" He lit up when he said starting some kind of business because in general a business is often like starting and growing your own business, it is often a much better way to get rich than working for someone else, there are very few jobs that will will lead to financial freedom, as long as the goal is high enough in terms of monetary values, monetary value, but there are many businesses that can lead you to financial freedom, so I think starting and growing your own business is a Very reasonable default, because if you want to be financially free, lean in. to start and grow his own business, I sure was like, "Okay, what kind of businesses do we start here?" and he said, "Okay." I guess I could start a tutoring company.
This is an absolute classic. Any smart person I know who has been to college lands on the idea that they could start a tutoring company because they realize they could teach kids who are studying for their exams. I could teach college students. I could guide people to enter university. It is something we are all very familiar with, but I personally think that starting a promotion company is a bad business for several reasons, in general, it is difficult to make a lot of money when you sell to consumers. It's not impossible, but it's interesting, but it's very easy to make a lot of money when we're selling to companies, but most normal people don't think about selling to companies because that's a little strange, what do you mean by selling to companies like that?
And we are all very familiar with thinking like consumers because we are consumers. We are normal people and that's why we think of selling things to normal people like us, but it's okay, let's say, a tutoring agency. I was like, okay, cool, let's say you start a tutoring company, how could that generate an extra $150,000 a year in your and his free time? It was like, well, I guess I could open a tutoring center and I guess I could charge £10 an hour per student, so I thought, "Okay, that's like an extra, basically, $15,000 a month, so how many students would you need to get extra £?" 15,000 a month I did the math and it's like, damn, I'd need 1,500 students a month paying an hour, assuming they were doing 1 hour a month to get that money.
I thought, okay, cool, what if they were doing like four? What happens if we now do one hour a week? Okay, cool, now I need likebut John, come on, if you have all this inaudible, could you find half an hour in your day to listen to audiobooks? And he said, oh yeah. I said: why don't you do that? and he said, oh. I just don't know, I've never listened to an audiobook. I wondered what you do on your trip to school when you walk SL, take the train to school every morning to teach, oh, and he said, oh. um, just listening to music, I thought, cool, how long is your trip?
He said, oh yeah, half an hour each way, great, so we have an hour a day on the road that instead of listening to music, you can listen to audiobooks. or podcasts would work and he was like, yeah, cool, fantastic, it's not that hard for everyone to have time in their life to be able to listen to audiobooks. I agree, if you have a very busy life etc. you may not be able to do it. Find time to read even then. I think everyone can find a half hour before bed or wake up a half hour earlier to read in the morning because books are a game changer, but you can always find time to listen to audiobooks while doing the dishes. clothes while you go about your day while you're at the gym while you commute to work on your lunch break there's always time to listen to audiobooks if this is the kind of thing that matters to you there's always time and this is literally the easiest thing all I am to say is to ask you to do is to consume certain information it is worth recognizing that the vast majority of people in the world are not financially free I gave a talk at the London School of Economics the other day and also in another at the Academy of Procedures, both talks had about 300 people and at the beginning I asked a question about who would consider themselves financially free and one person in the audience raised their hand and that guy's name was Matt. who I knew, who was my guest at the event and he built and sold businesses for tens of millions.
I then asked the audience how many people aspire to be financially free and each hand went up out of 300 people, 299 were not financially the vast majority of people in the world are not financially free if you wanted to be financially free your goal is something extraordinary It is something atypical it is as if the vast majority of people in the world who play football are not professional footballers who do it for a living if you are trying to be financially free you are in that category where you are trying to look for something that It's actually what very few people have and if you don't even consume the damn information because you can't find an hour in your day to listen to some AUD mistakes like you're not going to make it, it's just not going to happen and that's okay, but if it's not your goal, but if it's your goal and it's not going to happen then, come on, you know, our business makes about half a million, well, yeah, about half a million dollars a month, we're trying to get to a million a month, we're trying to get a 10.
Basically, millions a year, so every day I consume literally hours of audio in terms of videos, podcasts and audiobooks, usually at twice the speed, from people who make more money than me, people who are further along in the business game, like YouTube. channels I watch Sam ovens Ravi abuvala Alex hosi Leila hosi Russell Brunson Dan Martell I'm listening to a book called Blue Ocean Strategy right now, which is like a business strategy book. I'm reading a book right now called Ready Fire Target, which is a business book when people get in my car and they like audible autoplays or podcasts Autoplays or video Autoplays and it's like double speed and it's like a business video that I still make to this day they're Sil, it should be fun, I guess you practice on little things, people are surprised, like who, hey, how do you retain all that information or how do you understand what they're saying? and how you retain it and why you are hearing these things.
I can see why you've asked me why I'm hearing these things, but I have a goal to take our business to 10 million a year and I think I know what the plan is to get there and that's why I'm executing it. plan, but at the same time I think it's always useful to consume information from people close to you, from people who have gotten there and see what they say, and you know, I started listing things at a certain speed, then I moved it to 1.1, then to 1.2 and then. 1.3 and over time you can train your own listening speed, so now having an hour of time listening to audiobooks actually helps me consume 2 hours of audiobooks, which is useful if I'm trying to explore a particular area and I'm just trying to complete the map.
There is reading for exploration and reading for exploitation. This is more like reading for exploration. Yes I am reading for exploitation. If I find that book, they offer me offers of 100 million dollars and I'm done. taking action on it, then I'll slow down and take notes and follow the thing and do it correctly, but what I'm asking for John and you is to just read to explore, it doesn't matter if you do it first. It doesn't matter if you do it while doing other things, you're just trying to roughly complete the map, that's the idea, it's like you're playing tennis on a particular level if you want to go to the next level.
You need to hire a coach to take you to the next level or play with people who are better than you just because that's how you get to the next level, similarly with business, if you're not currently making money you need to read the content. people who help you get to 10K a month, once you make 10K a month, then you move to 100K a month content, once you've done that, you move to million month content, you know all that kind of stuff and at a certain point you know, it stops being books and things written about things, so you start having to go to masterminds and events and talk to people and get coaches and stuff.
It's like everything in life, there are levels to every game we try to play. of becoming financially free by making money through a business is a game that has levels and if you are currently at level zero, read the things that I recommend to get you to level one, that is what I would say to John, that is what I would tell you if you're still with me on this video, there are a few other things I would say to someone who is on this list that I would say to John. I didn't say those things to John, but if John was watching this video, he would.
Another important thing is to organize your life. If you want an entrepreneur, think of yourself as an athlete. An athlete. It's not just about what they do on the field, but also what they do on the field. What they do off the field Athletes don't just show up and then say, "Oh, you know, I can destroy my body the rest of the time to be successful as an entrepreneur," you also want to spend the rest of your life together. You don't want to sacrifice your life for the sake of your business, so you want to take care of your health, you want to take care of your relationships, you want to make sure you have some hobbies, you want to make sure you have some time to relax.
Health usually comes first. My friend Bloom has a quote that says there is no such thing as a loser who wakes up at 5:00 a.m. m. and he exercises if you're not taking care of yourself at that moment. of your health make it a priority it is not that difficult to get up half an hour earlier and go for a run or get up an hour earlier and exercise the energy that this gives to your life is energy that you can then apply to your daily work, to your business, your friends and family and generally it's very, very good for you if you have energy rather than if you're a bit lazy.
The other thing I would say is to stop wasting. Spend your time watching TV and stop wasting time scrolling through social media, especially if you have a day job and are trying to be an entrepreneur. Yes, you are like an athlete. Do you want to waste that time watching TV or do you want to do it? Waste that time scrolling through social media when you could spend that time reading business books or working on your business. There will be people in the comments who will be like this guy, toxic productivity hustle culture, yeah, okay, toxic productivity hustle culture, if your goal. is having a healthy, balanced life where you have time to watch TV and browse social media in the evenings, awesome, that's great, but if your goal is to be financially free and the plan you're following requires you to watch TV for a while a couple of hours a night and scroll through social media for 2 hours a day, you're not going to make it, so let's change the goal or change the plan if you're one of those people who cries about toxic productivity at the thought that I'm telling the People stop wasting time watching TV and scrolling through social media, their goal probably isn't financial freedom and that's okay.
I'm not trying to tell you what goal you should have, what I'm saying is that you do, in fact. having a goal of being financially free and wanting to make a lot of money, in John's case, wanting to make a million in the next 8 years, that's actually a pretty big goal and extraordinary goals require extraordinary contributions, watching TV for a few hours and scrolling Social media for a few hours every day is not one of those things, especially if you say you don't have time to read or listen to podcasts you know, go for a walk, instead, follow the steps and do it while listening to a An audiobook that will help you improve your business in that way is what I would say if someone really wants to be financially free, that would be my

honest

advice: how much time are you really wasting in your life doing things that are not taking you? you to any of your goals, if your goal is to watch every movie Disney has ever made three times, that's great, you have a goal and you stick to the plan, but if the goal isn't that, then don't waste your time watching TV. .
That would be my humble two cents on that front. I would also say use your day job to your advantage. There's no law of physics that says you can't work on your side while having a day job, don't tell anyone on my team I hope they're not watching this video, but when I was a doctor there were always quiet moments During the day, in those quiet moments, other people were browsing social media. and watching YouTube videos in those Quiet Moments, I would get the idea to plan my next video or I would have my little notebook with me sketching out what our database architecture would look like or what I would have my iPad. with me and you'd be thinking, okay, cool, how do I want to style my thumbnail for my next video?
That kind of stuff when I was in med school and I built my first business again between conferences instead of just fucking around and in the evenings sometimes instead of going clubbing I was coding and building products and stuff while I was trying to maintain a social life and be generally healthy. I wasn't really coping on the health front, but I managed to maintain a social life. Because for me I realized that I'm not really a party type of person. For me it's more fun to sit in the library with my friends while I code and we're all working than to go to a nightclub, so it's like you can always use the moments of the day in your day job to be able to progress in the hustle that you know on your lunch breaks, instead of scrolling through Instagram, you can read a book on Kindle in the Kindle app on your phone, you know all that kind of stuff, there are always ways to use your day job to your advantage, everyone has days off, everyone has annual leave, you can use your annual leave to your advantage and again, everyone always says, oh yeah, how? do this with a full time job it's like a full time job isn't actually a full time job a full time job has many periods of downtime you can take those periods of downtime and use them to your advantage please surround yourself with other people doing similar things, this whole thing about you being the average of The five people you spend the most time with is 100% true, that's absolutely true, so John, if you're watching this or whoever you are, who are they? the five people you spend the most time with who average you out or average you out or downgrade you when it comes to your goals.
I'm not saying you should cut all your friends out of your life. I'm saying it's worth finding ways to surround yourself. With people trying to do the same thing, one of the interesting things I've noticed over the years is that anyone who spends a lot of time with me ends up getting rich, it just happens, like anyone who has ever lived. with me ended up starting their own thing, for some of them the thing has grown and then they've decided I don't really want to, I don't want to take this to the end, but for some of them, this has grown and they've decided to take it to the end and Now it's others, you're financially free for a lot of friends of mine who talk to me about these things, they're starting businesses and growing those businesses, being around me and people like me and you know that a non-grandiose way helps guide you in the direction.
You know what you want to do, you know who I amfriend of Chris Williamson, he is an absolutely crazy podcaster, lives in Austin if I lived in Austin and hung out with Chris every day I would be fooled because I would take the gym more seriously if I hung out with people who actually like yoga. I would be more flexible if I hung out with people who really like Jiu-Jitsu. he probably has solid Jiu-Jitsu. I hang out with people who want to make a lot of money and my team, uh, and that just happens, so surround yourself with people who are doing the same thing, how can you find those people again if I can't understand that you're not going to make it, no It's so hard, you have the Internet, you can find groups of people that get together, you can host dinners, host entrepreneur dinners for people who are on the same level and who are also trying to get to 10K a month, whatever it is, but It's not just about physical people, it's also about the diet of content you consume if 100% of the content you consumed for at least an hour a day was all. about entrepreneurship and how to make money, you would end up learning the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and how to make money practically by osmosis, obviously there is no substitute for real life interactions with real people, but just like content, diet too The last thing I would say is that if you are serious about this financial freedom thing, you are embarking on a very long journey, it takes a while to get there and when you get there you will realize that in Actually the trip was what mattered.
The first place, then, what I would say is throughout the journey, try to have fun, make the process feel good, don't neglect your health and your relationships, because those are more important things than financial freedom, but the journey towards financial freedom is absolutely exhilarating. play a video game managed to playHorizon Forbidden West is like a video game I don't like it the objective is not to complete the game the objective is to have fun along the way as you know Alan Watt says that the objective of a musical symphony is not the climax the objective is to enjoy the symphony to enjoy time the objective of a dance is not the end the objective of the dance is to enjoy the dance in a similar way the objective of Financial Freedom if you reached the end of this video it is not in In fact, financial freedom is choosing a goal that you think is worth it and work towards it while enjoying the journey, so I would say that if you're looking at this, whatever stage of life you're in, you really do have the ability to become financially free if you want to. .
If you don't want it, that's a different question, but if you want it, the information is there and you can take action on the information. You can make it happen. I would just say that along the way, recognize that you want to enjoy the journey. like playing a video game where the video where the video game points are is real money that you can redeem for cool vacations and a nice apartment and experiences and stuff, it's really cool, it's an absolutely exciting journey and I love being on that journey. I continue on that journey. Why do I have a goal to take our business from 5 million to 10 million?
Because no, it's the next level of the video game. Why do I play Horizon Forbidden West on Very Hard difficulty? rather than story mode or medium because it's a little more challenging and a little more fun. I don't play on Ultra Hard because it's too hard for me, but right now for me the difficulty is too hard, you know. Well, it's a good sweet spot, but once I get really good at very hard, I'll stop playing games on Ultra Hard, it's like it's the same at the end of the day. I know entrepreneurs who make hundreds of millions a year and what they do every day is pretty much the same thing I do every day.
Are you sitting on a laptop most of the time thinking about the vision and having meetings with your team? The work always remains the same. It's just that the levels, the video game level and the difficulty level change, which is fun, it's part of the video game, it's an exciting journey that you can be a part of if you aim for it, so just make sure the plan is in place. following and the system you are using to follow that plan is sensible, that is the advice I would give to someone who wants to be financially free.
