of the Simmons Titan 50. Just a heads up, this time Simmons didn't actually send me a kit to review, so this won't be A long-term in-depth review, on the other hand, will be more of a

video after having the opportunity to touch one in a store. Now I'm pretty sure this battery was developed from the ground up to compete against Alesis. The Nitro mesh, which has been the king of low budget for years at this point, so the Titan is basically trying to do the exact same things that the Nitro does, but also surpass them at the same time, so the question is If the Titan 50 is a good budget option or you should go for the Elise Nitro Mesh, that's what I'll try to answer in today's video, but first, today's video is brought to you by edrumcenter.com if you're looking for new electronic drums or used in the market. my link in the description below to save 25 on your next order over 100.

It's a great base of battery stores in the US and they really know what they're doing so check them out today with the link below . Okay, let's start with the kick drum sizes. The drum is large enough for 5-inch wide double bass drum sticks, the snare measures 10 inches, and the three Toms are eight inches wide. The crash and ride hi-hats are all 10 inches wide and everything sits on a metal drum stand. With plastic joints, a bass drum pedal and drumsticks are also included in the box, so all you need to get started is a drum throne and a pair of headphones.

Now moving on to the drum module, there are 187 sounds organized into 25 preset kits plus 10 user kits. On the back of the module you get right and left master outputs, this connects to the speakers, there is a five pin midi output, an 8th inch USB aux input and of course a headphone jack on the side, there is also two additional pad inputs for future expansion. Simmons sells an 80 that gives you Tom number four and crash two and of course you can try your luck with other third party components that may or may not work with this external module up to spec.

Now let's move on to the strengths and weaknesses, starting with the things I liked about the drum kit, so first of all, setup is pretty easy because the drum rack comes pre-built. This matters to me personally because I had to put together a lot of drum racks while making these videos on the channel. I'm tired of doing it, this saves you time. What I like most about the drums is the quality of the built-in sounds, according to Simmons, they didn't just copy and paste this from some kind of sound library, but I specifically went out and recorded new sounds, new samples for this module.

The sounds were fun, punchy and there were also quite a few different editing controls, including compression, which I don't really see on beginner drums. Now, of course, I come home and listen. by playing examples and videos I can distinguish the different flaws you know it still has machine guns and stuff just keep in mind that the full battery costs 380 at least at the time of filming today's video which means there will be limitations on what That the module can work in the first place, it was much more fun to play than the built-in sounds of the Alesis Nitro and other competing beginner electronic drum modules.
Additionally, Sims is trying out an interesting strategy for the end of the year instead of just having two dozen of so-so quality. kits within the module you will soon have the option to download a high quality kit into the module and overwrite them. This is not new, although it is a strategy that Pearl has tried with the Pearl e-pro live in the past. and I think Elise did it with the dm10 too. This is a great option that Simmons has enabled, regardless of how many people use it. There is also a pretty good app for this drum module called Simmons Drum App.
There are actually a few other apps. Within the Apple App Store, do not use those with the Titan line because, as far as I know, they are not supported. This new app is designed from the ground up to work with this battery. It's a good way to cycle through the different types of drum kits and edit everything. I like how they show the actual names of the samples too, so instead of something generic like rock Kick Drum number three, they'll say something like 14 by 24 Ludwig Maple bass drum or 19-inch Zildjian Thin Crash, there are standalones too. controls for pan, pitch, decay and reverb for each zone, there's also a practice section and a trigger settings menu where you can dial in each individual pad.
I'm pretty sure you can make all the different types of settings within the app or within the module, but it makes it easier when you can use your phone. I'm also glad to see another company finally enabling audio recording over USB instead of just midi. All you have to do is plug in a USB cable from the module and your computer, open your DAW and voila, there's also Bluetooth audio and Bluetooth midi again, it's one of those things that really should be the industry standard by now , but somehow it's not when it comes to sizes, everything is pretty good, the largest size of the snare is 10 inches wide compared to the average 8 inch snare at this price really makes the playing experience be more fun.
It's also nice that the bass drum is wide enough for double sticks and it also includes a bass drum adjustment pedal on the snare and a bass drum head to protect the foam playing surface, okay now let's move on to the weaknesses of this drum set. The first thing I noticed when I sat down to play is that, once again, with another beginner electronic drum kit, the drum stand is not as high as I expected, as you can see from this camera angle right here, now my knee It is higher than the actual box. To be fair, there was still a bit of room to lift everything up on the battery holder, but I couldn't.
I didn't do that because it didn't have a drum key, it would still be a little short for me with the drum throne at maximum. Fortunately, there is an easy solution to all of this if you were to purchase this drum. set I would also buy a cheap snare stand on Amazon and then put the snare pad on the snare stand I just bought so I can independently lift it up as high as I want now this won't be a problem for everyone especially if you are purchasing this for your child or teenager or if you are under six feet tall, but for me it was worth mentioning.
I should probably also mention something about the rims, if you lift up the rubber rim protector you will be able to notice that the actual rim underneath is made of plastic. I double checked with this competition, the Alesis Nitro, and same thing there is a plastic lip under the rubber edge protector. It seems to be one of those small areas where cheap electronic drum kits skimp. To keep the price down, you'll probably also notice that there's no Android version of the module app, which is a bit of a bummer. I actually talked to an electronic drum company about this before, not Simmons, but another company, and they told me. that the reason they don't create a version of the app for IOS and Android is that it's too expensive to create an app for both platforms and based on their analytics or whatever, they found that most of their customers have iPhones instead of Android phones. so it made sense that they would only make a version for that app store.
I'm not telling you that I agree with this kind of reasoning. I'm just telling them that's what they've told me and I don't like it. the travel symbol is Dual Zone, not Triple Zone, which means that the Bell is actually on the edge of the symbol instead of above where the Bell should be. It's a weird muscle memory thing that I'm just not used to and finally let's just talk about durability I really don't know how long you can expect this battery to last, it's just impossible to know because the battery is too new, the module, the pads, It's all different from what they've done before, but my instinct is telling me not to buy this battery with the intention of passing it on to your grandchildren.
It's not that type of battery. If you go the Simmons route or even the Alesis route, think of it more as a short to medium term purchase. It's great. For people on a budget, it's great as a stepping stone to better kits later on, just don't plan on this being your Forever drum set. Next, let's talk about stores that actually sell this, so it turns out that Simmons is actually a house. brand essentially of Guitar Center Holdings, which means you can only buy it at the stores that are on the screen right now, stores like Guitar Center Musician's Friend, stores like that, basically anyone who is owned by Guitar Center Walmart is kind of a one of these special cases because they have been associated. with them, so if you buy from walmart.com, they will actually ship it to you from Musician's Friend, which is owned by Guitar Center, so at the end of the day, if you had to buy this or the Alesis Nitro, which one would you choose.
For me personally, if they were the exact same price and there's no way to know because every day they change prices all the time, but if they were the same price and I had to choose between the two, I would choose this seven. battery basically because it has the biggest case, which is important to me, it also has the best module that sounds better and has Bluetooth connectivity. I'm not saying this battery is perfect, at the end of the day a used electronic drum set is actually my recommendation for people dipping their toes in the electronic drum water, but if you need something new and want a mesh electronic drums, in my opinion this is the best mesh electronic drums for beginners at the price they offer.
I am currently charging everything I say, it really depends on the price of the day you are watching this video right now. This battery is the one I would buy, but it depends on when you are watching this video. Go check the prices. this battery and the competition and make the best decision for you and your situation. That's the video. Thank you very much for watching until the end. I really appreciate it.
