Mar 22, 2024
Hello ID, I'm Vanessa Hudgins, welcome to my house, come in, so this is the little DeMille, it was built by Cecil B Demille for his lover, so this is the little mill here. We have Cecil B Demille, the man himself, on record. like the grandfather of Hollywood cinema, so we have to have a moment here to honor him, since he built this for his mistress. This is the living space, I have the piano, which is not really used. This is often all I remember for the most part. I wanted it to feel really French because the land is very French and vibrant, there are olive trees everywhere, so I really wanted to play with that with the space and I wanted it to be really casual, relaxed and welcoming.

I am a big fan of chandeliers so you know to see them everywhere. I loved this mohair sofa that I found at a vintage store. Many of the pieces I found are antique pieces like small travertine stacking tables. I bought an old movie poster that is awesome. An incredible French film. I'm obsessed with this, it's an artist named Peter Tomka, he makes these projections of gelatin silver prints and it's his friend from high school, she wrote a murder mystery and this was a shot he got of her. I love it. I love the foreigner. I love old books. books around the world is one of my favorite things to do.

I found these little guys in Scotland in a small vintage bookstore along with these Prince of Emma originals. They are like all French love stories. In fact, we have my only Natalie Wood box. She gave this to me after doing Grease live as a gift. I got it because I thought it would be cool to have an old school clock that would ring and then start ringing and every time it would ring, I would jump out of my skin and being like that was a great idea, practically terrifying, but you know, it looks cute. I love big plants.

I got this wallpaper I fell in love with from House of Hackney, there are like little mushrooms and dragons. I made it after a restaurant I'm obsessed with in New York called Mason Premiere and I feel like you're in New Orleans in the '20s. I eat it when it's like one or two of my other friends, but we usually end up dancing around it of the table. It ends up being a big foreign dance floor when I bought the house. This kitchen. It was very, very different, it was all white, there were red knobs on all the cabinets and during the pandemic I was

so much that I thought this would be the time to do a kitchen remodel, so I took it upon myself to have a project and I did it.
I put everything together. I wanted the floors to feel a little Italian, so we did travertine. I

here we have our dining room. I wanted it to feel very romantic. I wanted the table to play with the pattern of the floors once again, like a 50s Italian chandelier, just keep it really organic and a little neutral from this. it opens up and flows into the olive trees, this is The Powder Room, which I love so much, it has these tiles that I think have probably been here since the 50's, but this wall was painted red like a bright red, so knowing that I loved him very much. old school old Hollywood I found this wallpaper from the Hackney house and I feel like it gives it that old Hollywood vibe, of course since this is an old Hollywood house it had to have Richard Avedon's portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
I love this piece because we're all so used to Marilyn smiling happily and just being the Goddess that she is, but this seems like an in-between moment, like she's really lost in thought and it seems like a very vulnerable personal image of her, which is what I kind of want to see when you go to the bathroom, you feel safe since this is like all white walls. I wanted to bring some large pieces of art into this space. This is from an artist called Kate or Boley, she was born in Africa. and he moved to Paris when he was 20 to pursue his dream his stuff is great this piece my girlfriend her husband is the artist his name is Fernando García and I thought this was cool he says Free thinker it's like a commentary on how society wants to keep us inside the box, but they are also our jobs, the outside thinkers we support and love abroad.
This is my room. I wanted it to be very feminine, so I feel like of course there will be a lot of celebrations for women. In my room I found this piece by an artist from Los Angeles named Eliza Valenti. I love the colors. I made these and I'm obsessed. with these legs that are thick and have a kind of artistic decoy feel to them and this marble really matches the marble in my bathroom perfectly. We love it when everything fits together. This is my bathroom, one of my favorite places in the house.
I worked with Jake Arnold to design the space and I really wanted it to be sexy and cave-like, this bathtub that I spend so much time in more chandeliers as you can see here's the marble that matches my nightstands and these too it's the tiles that I had so many extras that I used as a backsplash in my kitchen, all the faucets that I wanted to be brass, so naturally I went to Water Works and we did it with wood because I love things to be really earthy and and keep it grounded so I can shower, welcome the worlds in the morning.
I wanted a little moment in the evening so I could work on scripts at home with this lamp. I'm so obsessed with it that it makes it feel like a little fairyland. my closet, which we don't need to look at because it's kind of a mess, of course everyone loves living in LA for the outdoor space and this house doesn't disappoint. I made these wooden beams to follow the curvature of the iron that was already there. Here I eventually hope my Vines grow and cover all of this, but it's really taking its time. This is like the side door.
I love how the ivy is growing. The ivy on this house is one of my favorite things. Because when do you get a brick house in Los Angeles that's covered in ivy? It is very rare that the maintenance of this house is a lot, it is definitely a lot. We have our much needed pool in Los Angeles. One of my friends found this chair at a vintage store. I'm especially obsessed because it plays with the murals I had painted outside, so when I moved in, this was just a white wall and I thought it seemed like a wasted opportunity for something really cool to happen, so I found this artist Carly, who does the coolest one liner portraits and I'm obsessed because it brings so much life to the place.
She also made these, we call them the lovers, just a little sitting area under the olive trees. Plumerias are my favorites. My dad always had plumerias around. Always give me plumeria plants so this is like my most prized possession, this is where I feel like most nights my friends and I hang out, light the fireplace and share ghost stories, say hello to Dar, she gets shy around the cameras, so this is the guest house. It was originally built as a garage and now it's just our meeting room, TV room, as you can see we have all my Teen Choice Awards.
They've been in the garage for so long and I finally thought we should put them out. somewhere, so they finally found a bookshelf at home with more books that I found from everywhere. I bet Kate Kelly Slater when she was going to browse us opened it, so she gave me her book signed by her, which I love. I bought my Annie Leibowitz which she signed for me when I worked with her, my friends and I are always taking photos so we have our old Polaroid ready on hand. I have a lot of really good stuff here, this piece I'm so obsessed with because at a certain point in the day, the light comes in and illuminates it just right and it almost looks like a ghost.
It's this artist Kim Vitran. I saw it on her Instagram and I thought, "This is amazing. I need it and then they sent it to my favorite part is the little portrait of Darla in the portrait ah it kills me we love jam sessions so there's always some kind of instrument in every rooms and then we have even more land this huge tree is an avocado tree and it actually produces fruit, not that often but when it happens there is a lot of guacamole this is a grapefruit tree then we have a lemon tree and a linden tree and a kumquat tree and tangerine so there's a lot of foreign fruit I really wanted a place where you can just run and feel like you have a park, we have water balloon fights here, we do little photo shoots here, just run and it's so nice to have an open space in Los Angeles which allows me and my friends to feel like big kids.
I love this little Arch entrance we have into the secret garden, which doesn't really have much to it because I'm not there all the time. We have our pizza oven, which was actually used the first time, not so much. successful, we have our big old fireplace and the biggest grapefruit tree that lights up at night and is so whimsical and romantic. This is another thing I love about house gas lanterns. They're from this Bevello company in New Orleans that they've been with. Since the 40's and I love when you go to New Orleans that vibe is a little spooky so these lanterns really did it for me and that's my home.
