How Many Moons can you get Without Cappy?

Jun 06, 2021
Super Mario Odyssey came out in 2017 and introduced one of Mario's most interesting capture mechanics, allowing him to take control of different creatures and take advantage of their abilities. It turned Odyssey into one of the most diverse games in the franchise. The entire game was built around the capture mechanic, but as with all great video game mechanics, eventually people asked: can we beat the game without it? The answer is that we figured out how to beat the game using only three captures, yes, not the 100 plus, you must use only three to beat the. The game, of course, means getting 124

moons

and progressing to the end of the story, but this video isn't just about finishing the game without captures.

If you're looking for that, watch this video on the channel with the lowest percentage. This video is about a different topic. The question using only three captures, how

many

moons

can we get? The answer is much more complicated than you think, as it turns out that there has been a group of people dedicated to finding the answer to that question for over three years and they have managed to solve it. I calculated a theoretical number of possible moons and although some tried, no one managed to get them all, so I wanted to be the first to start the running cap kingdom and it was quite normal to just skip the frog cap and get our first capture of the execution waterfall is where things immediately took a little turn so we can skip a damn boss fight we have to get five moons without capturing anything so to start I used a precise trick called roll cancel clip to hook into this wall. then i did a tight move out of bounds on invisible platforms to get to the 2d section and i used a trick called crc to teleport

cappy

to a checkpoint but i'll explain that later then i did a spin throw clip on this rock and i got the last moon our first power moon uh anyway the sand kingdom was pretty much the same as the normal minimum catches make the moons in the city suffer through the sheep moon and nail this one then i got hooked on the pyramid, I beat Harriet and moved to the lake kingdom where things immediately got complicated again, so you might know this moon where you capture a zipper, open an alcove and grab the moon, but of course, capture It's the opposite of what we want to do, so instead I brought mario under this platform and used two. player mode to slam it into the ground and did some ridiculous out of bounds moves to get the moon, there we go we got it guys and if you're wondering this moon took me about 30 minutes to include this attempt after this .

More Interesting Facts About,

how many moons can you get without cappy...

I immediately returned to the Sand Kingdom. I basically grabbed every moon possible, but the hardest ones were the two before the Knucklotech boss fight for the first one. You must capture these goombas and jump to the moon. I spent some time trying this incredibly difficult trick. I jumped in before realizing I could make this much easier. The next jump was the treasure chest moon, where I had to precisely get to this moving platform, then around the wall and up to the moon. Now I was finally done with the sand kingdom and was ready to move. to the subway, yes you heard me right, usually to get to Metro Kingdom you have to finish Lake Wooded Cloud and lose, then defeat the Mecca Wiggler boss fight, but that requires us to capture a tank, so we have to use a different route if you pass. painting to metro kingdom actually it's already daytime but the continent is too far to reach right in fact there is a trick called

cappy

return cancel or crc that we can use to access metro kingdom early basically how it works a crc is in two player mode.

We get Cappy too far away from Mario by hitting the ground in the void, then we have the taxi driver come back, but in the frame where Mario teleports we send him again and no matter how far he was from Mario, he teleports at that distance in any direction. Mario faces when using this. We get Cappy to a checkpoint and now we're in the Metro Kingdom. Now it was time for one of the craziest moons of this entire race to reach dizzying heights. Normally, to get this moon, you simply capture a cable and climb to the top. of the building, but it's too high to get there without a catch.

Instead we enter the town hall, exit the building and do a perfect jump from the ground to this tree, then we jump Mario into the void and oh yeah, basically this glitch is only possible because of assist mode. The assist mode means that when Mario falls into the void instead of dying, he returns to the last safe place he was in, so the perfect jump we made causes the game to not register a new safe place. to get mario to stop, then the game sends mario to town hall, which turns out to be on the same map as the rest of metro kingdom, but very far away, so now we're in a glitched version of town hall near the edge of the map.
You might be wondering how this actually helps us get to the top of town hall and I'll show you the super fun clip, it comes with a price, oh we got it, come on, wait, did I do it wrong? No, I have it, I have it. Come on, come on, yeah, if we jump onto this pole at a specific speed and angle, the game will realize that we're not where we're supposed to be, so they'll shoot Mario back to Metro Kingdom and we can get to the moon afterwards. of that. I started with the rest of the moons in Metro.
I took out the trash. I became friends with a lonely man. I ran away from a dinosaur and started another mistake using the scooter. Oh, here we go, here we go, here we go a few more moons later. I'm done with Metro. and I entered the painting into Woody's realm, the next realms were pretty basic. I got 36 moons in Woody's kingdom. I beat Cloud Kingdom and got 10 moons and lost the snow kingdom. It had some interesting off-limits clips. I spent too much time killing these sticklebacks and trimming them. Meanwhile, skipping catching a goomba by the sea was also pretty basic, taking 30 moons in total and going to lunch, most of lunch was pretty easy.
I beat the spirit, did some jumping through the lava, and headed to the rotating athletic sub-area, but this is where I faced my first big obstacle in the Lunch Kingdom Notes. Usually you capture a lava bubble and casually swim around in these musical notes to collect the moon at the end, but as you probably already know, we can't do that. very precisely use lava vaults and downward throws while controlling cappy with my feet to collect all the notes in time without dying, overall this moon took me more than an hour and here is the full clip oh pog oh, lo we have, we have it. come on oh my gosh after this moon I just got a few more including this one where I had to use a turnip to hook it on a block of cheese and then make two cappy clips to get cappy into these walls and collect the fragments of the moon later.
Everything I moved to the Odyssey and left to ruin the kingdom. The ruins kingdom consisted of just one boss fight, but it's actually where we had our second capture of the run and next up was Bowser's kingdom. I immediately had to do several crcs, first one to the second. island, then one to the third island, no, tammy, try the fourth first, come on, the beat hits and it's functional, one crc to get the souvenir shop checkpoint and the final crc to get to the checkpoint inside wall control, come on. Then I had to do one of the hardest fails in all of Super Mario Odyssey.
The nut jump, usually to get to the mechanical fight in Bowser's kingdom, you capture a wire and write it. I had to take this nut, throw it in the water. and use it to gain infinite height, this cheat has a two frame window which means I have to time a dive entry within 1 30 of a second and I have to do it 30 times in a row, but using this bug I managed to reach the boss defeated him and went to the Lunar Kingdom. The Lunar Kingdom is where we had our third and final capture of the race.
It was also where we ended the main story. I decided this was a good place to stop for the day and I would choose it. back up next week 228 moons down and so

many

to go to the mushroom kingdom was pretty simple, except for one moon that uses a roll cancel, it is possible to hook onto the floor and get the toad defender moon without capturing it, It took a while, but I finally did it. to trim, do a complicated water move and get the moon, then it was simpler realms. cap kingdom was very easy with two tricky jumps to get to some distant moons.
I left cap kingdom with 24 moons in total, the cloud kingdom lasted about five seconds. getting seven moons in the process the lost kingdom was pretty easy with 33 moons and the ruined kingdom was basically nothing again we got seven moons there but the moon kingdom started off very interesting. I had to get a moon called jump as high as a frog, but how do you jump? as tall as a frog without being a frog well with a dog, of course, using this dog we can make another infinite height bug, reaching all the way to the roof of the map and barely being able to reach the moon, oh, come on a few moons.
I later had to redo a very painful looking glitch abuse assist mode and move on to the next realm. Seaside was just picking up some remains from before he finished with 37 moons. There the late kingdom had some basic moons, some out of bounds clips and a Lot of shopping ending with 35 moons. I went back to the forest to get a moon and finally reached the Waterfall Kingdom. My favorite part of this kingdom was using the dinosaur's finger to dig it into the ground and placing this moon under a rock 28 moons later. Ready to move on to the final and most challenging segment of the race, basically every other moon in every other kingdom meant nothing.
This is where the real challenge was that Bowser's kingdom began unassumingly grabbing a few moons around until I got to this subarea, all it had. What I needed to do was enter this space and slowly jump towards the key and pick it up. It seemed easy enough. Little did I know that I would spend the next two hours trying the same trick over and over again. Yes, yes, my God, yes, let's move on to the next one. the moon was less difficult and more simply annoying. I had to lure a pokio using strange and precise settings and get it to hit a bomb in a specific direction to get a moon, and again I was faced with a crazy challenge to get started.
I had to get this. key without touching the ground to abuse the assist mode and go back, that wasn't so bad, but then I had to get there. I can't really explain this so I'll just show the clip. Yes, yes, let's go. The sub area took me over two hours to finish, then I did it again for fun and tried it first, look at that look, it's so good there was only one sub area left I was worried about the gizo room but I ended up finishing it. This one is pretty quick using two players and crazy timing.
You can barely time a dive into this wall when it opens. Oh, now there was only one moon left. You may remember that I mentioned that no one had completed this race before and why. because that's because of this moon, this moon actually uses the nut jump bug from before, but before I only had to do 30 nut jumps in a row, this moon had to get 130 in a row, yeah I had to dive within 1 30 of a second 130 times in a row no one has ever gotten this moon without a catch I didn't know if I could get it this was the scariest moon of the entire race the first day I tried the nut jump for about an hour and managed I got 90 in a row but there was Been streaming for about 11 hours that day, so I thought I'd stop and pick it up next week.
The next week came and I attempted the nut jump for six and a half hours straight. I somehow managed to get 97 in a row twice and then got my new best, which was one hundred and three. I was getting closer but couldn't get there. I was starting to think I might never finish this challenge, but I tried again the next week and after only 30 minutes of trying this happened, oh my god, enough is enough, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, holy oh my god, oh my god, I finally did it. 130 jumps in a row and I got the moon. and that was basically all I had left was to upgrade my game, get some coins and buy some costumes and I finished 500 moons with only three captures.
This challenge was crazy, but honestly the most fun I've had playing this game. For a long time I just want to thank everyone who helped again, especially Mars, who was there at every moment guiding me along the route and showing me how to get each moon. Seriously, I couldn't have done it without her, but yes, if you. I enjoyed the video go ahead and subscribe and if you like this type of content I do these types of challenges all the time on Twitch so make sure to catch me live whenever you get the chance but yeah that's it thanks for look.
