I Survived 100 Days of NUCLEAR WAR (NOT Minecraft)

Mar 19, 2024
We both insisted that we leave immediately, but I calmed them down by pointing out the fact that if whoever took Lilith wanted her dead, they could have attacked our camp. They finally agreed, so we waited until it got really dark and then followed the trail. I followed the group from the left flank, although at a distance, so that I could remain hidden with my rifle. But it turns out that whoever took her had horses! How they had managed to survive the attack and the aftermath I will never know, but there were clear signs of where the horses had been tied and then footprints leading north towards the remains of the city.

Now I felt stupid, because my insistence that we wait until it was completely dark had cost us an hour of chasing. Maybe we could have gotten to them before they got to their horses. At least we had clues to follow. Day 70-71 It took us a day and a half following the clues to finally reach the kidnappers. They had taken shelter in a surviving shopping center in the City of Industry, just outside Los Angeles. I guess they didn't expect us to follow them so long and so far, because it didn't seem like they were expecting visitors.

Now we just had to hope that Lilith was still alive. Annie and I were the best qualified for a rescue mission, so we waited until night fell again and sneaked to the edge of their small compound. You could tell they had been starting to secure the area because there were makeshift barricades in the middle of construction, but there were no guards posted. Instead, we heard laughter and some screams coming from one of the buildings, and suddenly the screams cut off into a muffled gurgle. With a growing pit in our stomach, we snuck over to the building where all the sound was coming from.

Looking out a broken window, we saw a group of five people huddled around a fire, with a sixth figure chopping something large. To our horror, we realized what he was cutting: a person. That must have been the one who had screamed before being slaughtered. However, with a sigh of relief, we saw Lilith chained against a back wall; whoever was being butchered, and we assumed was about to be cooked, at least it wasn't her. Annie and I came up with a plan. We were both pretty good shots and we were very angry, so we waited until this group of six people settled into their disgusting food and then we split up.

She attacked from one side while I attacked from the other, trapping them between us. Annie opened fire first, shooting one of the cannibals in the chest, and then I began to unload on her. We took down three instantly, and a third grabbed a pistol and fired in my direction. Annie wiped him between the eyes while I ducked for cover, then finished off one of the two survivors who ran. I immediately chased after the surviving runner; He didn't want any part of this evil troop to survive to prey on other innocents. Meanwhile, Annie went to rescue Lilith in case there was more of her around somewhere.
The survivor turned a corner a few meters in front of me and then I heard two gunshots, almost simultaneous, followed by a scream that I recognized as Alexis's. As I turned the corner I found the surviving runner lying on the ground, clutching his leg. In front of him lay Ben, dead from a gunshot to the chest. Ben had come to try to help when he heard the gunshots, and when the two met, the cannibal had been the better shot. With a roar of rage I pointed my gun at the survivor and pulled the trigger. Days 72-76 If there were other cannibals around, they didn't bother chasing the rescue.
We also didn't bury Ben for fear of contaminating the ground, but we covered him with stones in a makeshift mound like our ancestors used to do. Annie was inconsolable, but having Lilith back helped. Our world had become cruel and deadly faster than any of us could imagine. Days 77-82 The road to San Diego was harder than we expected. The highway was crowded when the bombs fell, so there were many vehicles that could be blown away by the superheated hurricane winds. We saw another group of travelers in the distance heading north and Alexis wanted to contact them.
However, both Annie and I stood our ground and flatly refused. We were not taking any more risks. Days 83-89 The highway now passed near the beach and the sound of the ocean was almost comforting. Or it would have been if the beaches below us weren't covered in debris that had been washed out to sea and then returned to the waves. As far as the eye could see, the beaches were covered in the rubble of an entire coastal city destroyed by a

nuclear

inferno. In Los Angeles, the skies were perpetually covered in black, soot-covered clouds. Out here, the ocean winds created gaps in the clouds, but most of the time all we had overhead were thick, brown clouds.
We all knew that billions and billions of pounds of debris had been thrown into the sky in the attacks, but could there really be so much that it covered the entire sky in dust and debris? As we got closer to San Diego, I became more and more nervous. Day 90 We saw another plane above us, this time definitely a fighter plane. It came in from the ocean and appeared to be heading in the direction of San Diego before heading north in our direction and turning back toward the sea. Looking through some powerful binoculars we had looted, Lilith swore she could vaguely see the silhouette of an aircraft carrier on the horizon.
We had to take her word for it, she had the sharpest vision of all of us. She quickly learned to shoot the two rifles we had brought with us and she was proving to be an excellent shot. Lilith was determined to never be helpless again. Days 91-96 Progress slowed again due to debris and the fact that we were caught in a severe storm. This is unusual, because Southern California almost never has strong storms during the summer. We had also noticed that the temperature had been slowly dropping over the past three months, despite it being mid-July. We thought about putting up rain covers to help replenish our water supplies, but thought better of it once I saw how greasy the rain was as it fell.
My fears that the skies were still contaminated with bomb debris turned out to be true. It rained hard for two full

days

, and when it finally cleared, there was no sunlight, only large puddles of foul-smelling water. Luckily we can still find many abandoned convenience stores with shelves full of drinking water. Days 97-99 Something wasn't right. The lights of San Diego should have been visible at night for the past two

days

, even despite the heavy cloud cover. Alexis thought it might be the EMP blast from the attacks in Los Angeles. She wanted to believe him, but she couldn't shake the tingling feeling in the bottom of my stomach.
Even Lucky felt it too, her normally happy self looking more and more worried. Probably because he realized the stress of the group. Day 100 There was no denying it. San Diego had been hit by a

nuclear

attack along with Los Angeles. That explained the lack of traffic lights or traffic coming from the city. We had finally traveled close enough to see it with our own eyes, the skeletal remains of the iconic San Diego skyline in the distance. The group was too overwhelmed to do anything other than set up camp early. If there was no security in San Diego, where could we go?
How far had the war spread? That night we got our answer. Far out on the sea, somewhere in the direction Lilith swore she saw the silhouette of an aircraft carrier in the sea, a blinding white flash appeared, followed by a dull roar a minute later. I knew what I had just seen, but it took me a while to compose myself to explain it to the group. Whoever had attacked the United States with nuclear weapons had just struck again, this time destroying an aircraft carrier battle group off the coast of Southern California. Los Angeles had not been the victim of a single attack, and nuclear war had not destroyed the entire world: nuclear war was destroying the world, because it was still being fought!
Half an hour after the explosion at sea, three columns of fire coming from somewhere deep in the United States briefly illuminated the night sky before disappearing into space. Nuclear ICBMs, rising from missile fields in the heart of America to strike back at whoever attacked us again. It was clear that the war was on, while everyone expected World War III to be over in an hour, we were dragging it out for weeks and even months, fighting tit for tat as one major city after another was wiped off the map. How far had he gone? Where would it stop?
What even remained?! Now go and take a look. This is how you really survive a nuclear attack! Or click on this other video.
