DIY kitchen cabinet build. (CHEAP AND EASY!!!!)

Apr 08, 2024
Hey guys, Ron Bond Bondo built the

build

here, I'm putting this video together for you today just to show you this

kitchen

that we remodeled and, uh, we did this with the

cheap

guys, we built all these

kitchen

cabinet

s out of nothing but two by fours. two at a time and some old plywood that I use for concrete. You guys who know my channel know that I'm a concrete guy, so we had a bunch of plywood that we used that was actually used to

build

some things out of concrete. for forms so this is the kitchen guys when I started I bought this property I'm pretty

cheap

and I fix it up like a rental property so this is what it looked like before and then I'll show you how.

We put this together, I have a little slideshow for you and I have the demo here coming soon. It's so funny when I trashed this kitchen so stay with us it's going to be great that was the fun part guys here's the frame. how we start on the floor just twos on fours down just to lift everything off the floor, create a toe kick and, uh, these are two guys from three running through the twos on fours and putting them on 16 inch centers. three or three and a half inches overlap for the toe, here are the other two, start with the other two boxes, there is a hole there for the dishwasher, this is how we did it, left a hole there and these pictures here, Guys, these are just for reference, so I knew. where do you know when you put the plywood in I wanted to know where to put the plumbing so I don't run into these studs there is a ledger board in the back screwed to the wall there is another reference picture here it is when we started going here all What I did here, guys, we finished the frame and skinned it with three-quarter inch plywood forming plywood.

More Interesting Facts About,

diy kitchen cabinet build cheap and easy...

I just sanded the concrete and then nailed in some furring strips like one for four cheap furring strips I bought. At the box store and I sanded them as best I could with my Festool sander and just nailed them right into the frame, the 2x3 frame, so you don't see the 2x3 frame after I'm done because the 1x4 covers it. and I'm just going to go to the end and fill all the holes with durabond 90 drywall compound. I just filled all the holes, sanded everything and painted it, but stick with it at the end, you'll see how it looks. all done here's another shot guys you can see the nail holes and stuff you know before we fill everything in just a close up we built a shelf in there too same thing I just screwed the ledgers to the wall, you know, right on the studs.

Is the closet on the left or where the dishwasher will go? The same builds a small shelf. These shelves are not adjustable. I just try to keep it simple. I didn't put drawers in these

cabinet

s either, guys, just to keep it simple. Keep the cost down so I would have to buy a bunch of drawer slides and stuff, well guys this is what the bottom cabinets look like, almost all assembled, I have my face frame nailed on everything, I have my interior shelves, Like I said, those shelves. They are not adjustable but that is what they are, these cabinets are super strong as you can imagine, everything is screwed together with three inch deck screws, like hex head screws, the only thing that is not screwed down are the face frames , like I said, Brad nailed them. there and I actually also used a little bit of construction adhesive to stick it in there, put a good bead of construction adhesive on the back of the front frame and then Brad nailed it in there, same thing with the plywood.

I actually glued construction adhesive to the plywood. on the sides so everything is super strong like I said, I mean, you're not going to move these cabinets. We even made it a super thick top which I'll show you in a minute how we made the countertop, here are the upper cabinets. Guys, how we made them, same thing, screwed two at a time into the wall, into the studs, and I built my studs here, pretty simple, how he did it, just made a little frame, something that, you know, holds everything together. as this goes up you can see the ceiling, how I hooked it to the ceiling, same thing we tried to hit the studs, you know, I built the canvas, so at least I got into the corner studs and your 16 inch centers as we go here, the uprights are two by three. the whole box is two by three, there's the top, guys, I drilled it into the roof studs and then most of the cross pieces, I screwed them in at an angle, like a pocket drill, I didn't use a jig for pocket holes, but I just drilled a pilot hole and screwed everything in at an angle where I couldn't get face screws.
Here is another picture of the box and obviously after we built this box we put plywood on the bottom for the shelf, this is how we did it, I used three quarter size plywood, here is the plywood which was all concrete , guys, I said, like I said, I sanded everything with my Festool sander, got rid of all that concrete and they cleaned up pretty good, here's a view. of the upper cabinet after I skinned it with the plywood that after sanding that plywood I skinned it all so here's the second setup for the cabinets guys same thing two at a time screwed to the studs you build my frame, I just got it. teased here with those two for the studs and here it is after I put the studs on and skinned the sides and closed it all up here the face frames are not on yet here are the face frames on the upper cabinets guys I put a piece of wood in plywood widthwise for a border, same type of plywood, just ripped out by the foreign plywood, made of balance, I'm going to paint it and thought it looked pretty good.
Here's another shot of everything, it looks like it's all put together here. I don't have the window closed or anything, just another view of everything assembled before staining everything. I got these tiles from a friend of mine, he bought it at an auction, so I got them really cheap, like a dollar a piece, these planks. tiles and then I put two layers of plywood on the countertop, I alternated them and that's how I built the countertop and then I put durarock on the plywood, mudded it and put out these brown tiles that looked like planks, that's how I did it.
On the counter you can see that I cut the hole in the counter for the sink before laying the tiles just to make it easier. Here's just a view of everything coming together, there's the floor before grouting, everything finished, and another view of the kitchen. I put a piece of wood molding along the face of the countertop. No, it is not seen here. Yes, there is the hole cut near the hole for the sink. I only use a stainless steel sink. Relatively inexpensive stainless steel sink. a super shallow one but not bad here's the tiles on the counter again there's the sink just a single bowl sink pretty cheap so here's the full kitchen guys you can see I've got a row of drawers, there are no drawers in the cabinets like I said just to keep things simple, less hardware to buy, just easier to build, all the cabinet doors are made of plywood and I put a rabbet joint along the edge to They do settle a little when closed, but it's a very simple construction here.
I mean, anyone can do this if you know some carpentry skills and you can paint them and make them any color you want, but super durable, super affordable kitchen, I hope you enjoyed this video guys, if you haven't watched my channel.
