Fixing a duramax losing prime

Apr 30, 2024
laughs any of you have ever run into this problem but I have a special tool and I thought it was in my locker there with my oil change tools because it's the wrench that removes the bottom of the fuel filter on a Duramax where The water and fuel sensor is, but I checked there and it's not there, it's not in my key drawer, it's not my special key drawer, so Michael, maybe it's in my miscellaneous tools drawer like special, either is here. I don't really remember where he is. I guess we'll have to do it with a pair of pliers like everyone else does, so that truck with hazards there had the ramps on the back of the trailer dragging it down 40 and realized it's not like a folding. ramp that could have fallen, those are the ones that fall in a group, so it has been dragging them for some distance, so this morning our friend of the client will call this truck that we just did the turbo on a 6 liter that just have.

They serviced that car that ex drove for about a day Chuck wouldn't reset the lost

prime

if it was towed back to them they changed the fuel filter back on the truck about a day later we came back and have the same problem it seems to be It lost

prime

and won't start so I'm going to take a look to see what filter they have in their car. It actually uses federated filters, they are quite cheap and have a lot of problems on the dirham axes, so if not it is the NAEYC Delco filter that is here.

More Interesting Facts About,

fixing a duramax losing prime...

I'm going to go for a run and drink an AC Delco. We'll make sure to change all the O-rings, get it in there correctly, make sure it's tight, re-prime it and see if we can fix the problem. I had it towed last time and fixed it when he called today. They really weren't willing to do anything to help him. They don't want to tow it. They just said to find someone local to fix it and send them the invoice. So I am. try to fix this for him about an hour drive here to come see this, time we run and we're going to get a filter to prepare it, probably about an hour and a half and two hours of work, so I mean it's probably still cheaper. that store that pays for a tow truck to tow it, you know, an hour and a half back for a fuel filter, but still not very good customer service on the drive-thru part in this case, yeah, just like we thought, as a federated filter had a lot of problems with those who lost Prime under Max, so all these problems literally started a week ago when he had this repaired on an ACCI car.

They make a fuel filter and an oil filter and the problem is that it is new since they put a fuel filter on it. and before this, the guy had always handled the air conditioner, so we go back to town, we'll go pick it up and put it in there, we'll set up this thing and that should fix the problem, but if then we can't diagnose it from there. I have an AC Delco filter here so that should fix the problem with the cheap filter. Losing crime. We have diesel and a can of gasoline. I always put diesel and red cans because if someone doesn't have to rob me. gas chamber I want them to suffer when they think this is gasoline.

I put diesel in something and then I had to pick up a new drain pan because I'm an hour away from the shop and I forgot to pick them up before we left so I'm removing the old filter from there now the scratch marks on the bottom here are mine. My filter wrench doesn't fit here, so it's me removing it, but it was too tight here, let's see how much fuel there is. In fact on this thing like it's out of here it's got some fuel in its drain pan it's going to tip it over and dump it out but this is a Hastings federated filter so they've been known to have dirham shaft issues and these top scratches were already there. there, then they said they removed the new fuel filter and installed a new one next to that scratch.
I'm guessing they reinstalled the same one they took off the truck, never mind that they used a filter wrench and probably tightened it too much if you come. Here to the Delco filter, a quarter turn, that's it, you adjust it and give it a quarter turn. It doesn't take much if you tighten them too much you have the same problem as if you leave them loose they will leak and suck air. I have the new AC Delco filter there a quarter turn on the body half a turn on the fuel water sensor at the bottom, that's it, it's a quarter turn tight at the top, a quarter turn past where it touches the bottom, new o-rings on both, a bullet went in again and this is the old one, the water and fuel sensor on the bottom was so tight that I thought we were going to break it before we got it out of there, It's quite scratched, quite broken because Someone else has been using pliers and tightened them too much, so I will recommend a new one to the customer.
They said the shop that performed the last service is honestly paying for this service call and for me if I can think about running it again. So it's disassembled and damaged and it's just plastic so I'm going to go ahead and order a new one for them and I'll move it forward but we just need the top on the top side now that we're getting ready I'm going to get started. above, so I took the inlet tube out of this little brass fitting, here's the bleed screw, so you just need to loosen it, it's got a passage cut into the side, let the air out and this is your priming pump.
Press this priming pump until diesel comes out of here, close it, start the truck, obviously I had to put the intake tube back in, like I said, it doesn't have to come out. I just did it so you guys could see what we did. We're doing better, so that's what you're looking for. You have diesel. Screwdriver, just tighten it a little. It doesn't need to be too tight. There we go, that's there. Grab a screwdriver real quick, just tighten. These two clamps, if the mass air flow sensor doesn't read correctly because there's a little air leak around it, the truck will run strange, so it's best to go ahead and tighten them all now.
It's also weird doing this on my left hand. I am right handed, in my right hands, holding the camera, the Duramax worked again. We had to lift the shop truck to give it a little push. The customer cranked it several times trying to start. He lowered the batteries, but. It's been running for about five minutes. I'll probably give it another 5 or 10 minutes. I'm waiting for the customer to come here to settle the invoice, but I'll let it run for a while, probably one or two. it restarts after being sure the batteries have enough charge to do it again without having to start it and then this job should be done as I said before this is a lesson why we don't use cheap filters especially for fuel filters on a diesel, you know it's diagnosed as a gasoline engine, that fuel filter is lined before a few thousand dollars on the injection pump and thousands of dollars on injectors, you know if we're letting debris get through there and in in the cp3 pump.
In this truck we could damage a CP3 bomb. If a CP3 goes, it can destroy all the injectors, so you know, the twenty or thirty dollars more, you know what it's going to cost for the fuel filter, it's just not worth it to go with a cheap one. filter, you know we had problems with loss of prime, those pumps are also lubricated by the fuel that goes through them, so don't waste money when we buy fuel filters for a diesel, so take care of everything today on that Duramax that will we assign to the client. additional copy of the invoice, you will send it to the shop that did the work so you can get a refund for our service call today.
He's happy to have been recommended by the guy who turbocharged his six-liter that had a premature problem. turbo failure on truck when we had trouble getting a good new one, a lot of our business is that way, it's word of mouth, we get a lot of referrals from people we've worked for in the past, so that's always like that. Well, I don't advertise as much as I did when I started, but I haven't posted a single ad for my business in five months and we're still keeping busy with the last video I mentioned that was putting up a pole, so which one is it?
I'm going to watch a video for you about my story and what led me to get started in animal diesel. I wasn't planning on having a service call today. I was thinking today would be a day sitting at home while I go to Kentucky for two days in a row, so I'm going to sing, make that video for you tonight, the other two videos that were in the poll or a toolbox or the Maximizer , which is my biggest. toolbox in the shop and an AMA video, so I'm still going to do both videos and we'll put them in some slow periods between jobs and stuff as far as going through the toolbox.
I'll probably finish it when I get back from Kentucky tomorrow as I'll be taking my truck out because if I have the trucks in the garage I can't really open all the drawers all the way and then to watch the AMA video go to the community tab on my YouTube channel. Find the post where I took the poll for the videos and start posting questions in the comments section. I don't know how long it will take to answer those questions. I estimate we will probably try to answer between 50 and 100 questions. Make a like ten minute video out of that if we can, so start putting questions in the community tab and we'll answer them, we'll post that video to you guys, if you like it, check out more of ours.
