Can These Earbuds Help You Sleep?? - I Tried For 30 Nights (soundcore A20)

Jun 29, 2024
I live in a noisy area and

sleep

ing through train whistles and ambulance noises is not easy, so

sleep

headphones became very interesting to me and a few years ago I bought a pair of Bose ones, essentially they are a pair of smaller, more comfortable

earbuds

that

help

block out noises around you while further masking them with ambient noise like white noise or crickets or whatever and unlike airpods, you can sleep on your side because they have a really slim profile and while the sleep buttons on the bow

me sleep. many had some problems, some shortcomings that the entire industry has been trying to solve, unfortunately Bose didn't make a sequel and fix those problems and instead they just discontinued the Sleep Buds and clearly I'm not the only one who likes this format. and a lot of other people really love them, so the price on eBay is now around $600 for anyone who still has a pair of Bose 2o sleep buds, but there's good news.

Soundcore just released a promising new sequel called a20 and these headphones. I fixed almost all of those issues and even added some cool new features like sleep tracking, Bluetooth music playback, and a couple more that I'll talk about throughout this video, and while I've been using them for about a month, I wanted to share my honest comments. My honest review with you about the Soundcore Sleep a20 headphones and by the way, they are not only great for noisy environments, they are also great for anyone who sleeps next to a snorer, anyone who suffers from tentitis, anyone who suffers from anxiety or anyone . who likes music or maybe ASMR or whatever when you're trying to fall asleep, but even if that's not you, these are still really cool, they're still really cool technology and I think you'll be interested to see what kind of cool features They added to these. and what kind of battery life they get and maybe like other headphones, regular Bluetooth headphones might adopt some of this technology in the future.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now when looking at these headphones, you probably have a lot of questions, like if they have active noise cancellation, does my phone always need to have it? being connected Can the battery last all night and most importantly are they really comfortable for that amount of time? Well, let's go through these questions one by one, starting with whether they are comfortable. I have been using them, honestly, I am very, very picky, a lot of headphones fall out of my ears sometimes they are not comfortable, they are very comfortable and that is because you can customize them in a very interesting way, so they have three different ones , like extremely soft silicone, uh, ear wings is what they have.

You call them wingtips, so this is the softest, hollowest piece of silicone I've ever seen, so it's like if you put it in your ear, you don't even know it's there, but it holds it very well in your ear I can twist it around and sometimes I find myself adjusting it maybe once or twice during the night, but they never fall out of my ears and then the tip itself has a really cool design where instead of one firmer piece of silicone, they have two that They are layered on top of each other giving you better noise, passive noise blocking and also a really nice soft feeling in your ear so there isn't a lot of ear fatigue when you use them, and there are four of them. different sealed tips, this one is called a sealed tip, the ear tip that I have and there are also three breathable tips, if you find that your ears get hot with this, my ears didn't get hot at all so I was fine with the seal.

Tip: You get slightly better passive noise blocking with that, but if your ears ever get hot or you want more breathability or if you're worried about ear infections or whatever, depending on your own ears, you might want the breathable ones , but kind. To go further with Comfort, these have a very hard plastic exterior so you might be wondering if you are going to feel that at all and I found that if I sleep on my side on most pillows I don't feel it at all but Yes You find a pillow that is very firm, sometimes you can feel it a little bit, but never to the point that it caused me any kind of discomfort and I was able to sleep very easily on my side using these headphones right here, so I found them comfortable and the temperature hearing was very good for me.
Plus, you can also get them in any color you want, as long as it's beige. Now, what sounds are actually played on these headphones? Well, there are two modes that you can use, the first is sleep mode and sleep mode. If I go to the app it will make more sense so we can tap on these headphones at the top you can see the sleep mode and the Bluetooth mode so I have the sleep mode right now and if we go to the sounds you will see There are four which are loaded into these headphones and these will just play all night, you don't need your phone to be plugged in, they will basically play a loop of a similar amount of sound that you will never notice. a loop at least I've never noticed it and there are many that you can choose from so if I really, let's say I want to edit this, I can say edit, I can get rid of uh, maybe a cozy bedroom, I can delete that one and then That lets us leads to three interesting little Quirks.
Here you have to go to the music mode at the top or the Bluetooth mode as they call it and then inside the sounds you can add other sounds, so one thing that I like first of all is that there are uh, different categories, so the low frequency masks the mid or high frequency, so if you have tontis, maybe the high frequency masking is better if you have a lot of booming sounds around your apartment, the low frequency might be better try them all. I think it's really useful. and then a bunch of other guys like Serenity, if you want to call it that summer night.
Space travel in the forest stream, uh, like a lot of different ones available, so I can go and download, maybe like a relaxing rain. You tap on transfer. send it to your headphones and then you don't need to have your phone plugged in when they're playing now, you can just play them in Bluetooth mode here and never have to transfer them to your headphones, but that's how I prefer to do it. Now the second mode that you have will be the Bluetooth mode, as you can see, which will allow you to play anything on your phone, whether it's a YouTube podcast or Spotify, whatever, it's not going to be the best sound quality.
Obviously these aren't intended to be hi-fi headphones, but they definitely get the job done, they sound more than good enough for me to sleep in and it's Bluetooth 5.3 so you should have a much more stable connection than we've seen with many. of the headphones in the past now if I go back to the middle at the bottom we can go to the playback settings and you can see there are a couple of options here one of them is how long it will play well you can play until you run out asleep so that's really beneficial or you can play it all night now it doesn't actually know when you fall asleep so you have to choose until I fall asleep I mean hey set it to if it takes you 7 hours to fall asleep. asleep, I'm really sorry to hear that, but in my case, I usually have it like 1 hour 2 hours, something like that.
That's something I've really been playing with with these headphones and one thing I wish was a little better I wish one was able to detect when you're asleep and somehow fade into silence or more importantly I'd like to fade away at a lower volume once I fall asleep, sometimes I'm trying to mask distractions just as I do. fall asleep and then once I'm asleep the sound can wake me up a little or prevent me from sleeping more soundly so I wish it would fade out at a lower volume or at least let you do that now.
However, what it does allow you to do is enable Smart Switch right here. Smart Switch will essentially transition you from Bluetooth mode to just playing one of the other sounds, so if you're listening to music or a podc or whatever, uh it will transition you after that amount of time, so roughly 1 hour will go into summer night sound, that's what it's set to do right now, so I don't usually use Bluetooth mode, so I don't even care about that, but there's another interesting thing they do: if we go to sleep mode, you can enable smart volume.
Now smart volume uses your phone's microphone, so your phone needs to be nearby and that will adjust the headphone volume based on the sounds in the room, if something gets louder in the middle of the night, if someone comes in and starts making noise, huh, or if everything gets quieter, you'll adjust the volume of your headphones accordingly, now let's get back to the question of how long do these headphones really last? There are actually two answers, one will be the two hours or whatever you have set and after which it will change to just sleep sounds or ambient noise, but the other answer will be how long can they really like it if you have them non-stop, How long can they reproduce?
This is really impressive, which is why the previous generation of Soundc Cor had problems with this. I think it was between 6 and 8 hours, which is barely at least for me. I sleep eight hours or try to. Sleeping for 8 hours is ideal so they would die when I woke up in the morning so these have 14 hours of battery life on the

earbuds

and 80 hours when you include the case and that's with sleep mode but Even if you switch to Bluetooth mode and are streaming from your phone, you still get an impressive 10 hours of battery life on the headphones and 55 hours when you include the case, which I think is absolutely incredible because of how microscopic these headphones actually are.
Unfortunately, the case does not have wireless charging. I don't think that's a big problem because I'm always loading in the same place. It's cool, but it's infinite if you plug it in, obviously next question: are there touch controls? The answer is yes and you can actually customize this by pressing the settings button at the top right and going to controls. There is a double tap by default which will change the mode or play pause depending on which earbud you tap and it will be tapped three times. to lower or raise the volume, but if we look at that, you can actually change it to some playback controls, volume down, volume up, next previous play pause or if you find that you're accidentally tapping it twice while you're sleeping or tapping three times, uh, you could just set it to none and then disable that feature so you don't have to worry about playing or pausing while you're sleeping question number four I think we're at this point Do they have active noise cancellation?
I guarantee you. To be a great question that I had and many other people have the answer to, unfortunately no, these do not have ANC, so the lack of C is giving us a much more compact design and a much longer battery life, uh, and because it is By making this white noise or ambient sound that you are playing through the headphones, it still does a very good job of masking a lot of sounds similar to what ANC would do, however, I think that one day in the future it would be very cool to see come to ANC.
To a pair of headphones like these, I think at this point the trade-off is just not worth adding, you'd end up with bulkier headphones, shorter battery life, you'd have to add microphones here, a more powerful chip. the interior and overall I think it's a worthwhile compromise to get longer battery life, better comfort and just the white noise still masks a lot of the sound anyway so the next question of how to wake up with these headphones is completely valid because I could imagine sleeping with any alarm because the point of this is to mask external sounds, so if an alarm goes off but you have these earplugs playing white noise, it's like I'm sleeping with alarms every day. days, but these actually have a really cool feature built in that I think is even better than a phone alarm because it wakes you up in a much more natural and gentle way, which I think is nicer than the alarm of a telephone. the iPhone alarm that's literally titled alarm um, if you use that, I don't know if I could trust you like that, we need to talk, I can't wake up to something so jarring, that's such an amazing way to wake up.
Now, speaking of sleep tracking, this is something really interesting about these headphones. If we go back to the sleep data, you can see it right here. The sleep data I have essentially tracks using an accelerometer in the headphones and can tell you things like. How many times do you turn over during the night? Uh, I turned around 35 times. If you touch it, it says that anywhere between 20 and 40 is a pretty normal range, and that means maybe it's too hot in your room or something. It also tells you that the position in which you slept the most for meIt's my right side and I actually know that's what I tend to do, so the general pattern here of when you're awake and when you're asleep is definitely correct.
I can compare this on the screen to the Whoop I used last night, as well as the Ultra Human Ring, but when comparing it to the Whoop 4.0, which is generally pretty accurate sleep tracking, you can see that what's missing is REM, obviously you don't. shows rem. it's not really able to measure that it can only measure light and deep sleep deep sleep was pretty close and matched reasonably well uh the waking period I think will be pretty accurate because that's when you move the most I think it's not surprising These don't come with deeper sleep tracking that will be able to detect when you move or turn, but they're not doing tests like your heart rate or blood oxygen levels or anything like that.
The question is what happens if I lose these headphones, it's very understandable, they are really small headphones, they are like a very light tan, so they are not exactly easy to see, especially if they fall on your sheets. You can actually go find your hearing aids in the app here, so if you go up to settings, I can say search for device and I can play a sound on the left or right, so if I play it, make sure it's not in your ears, say continue, can you, I don't know if you can hear that. I'm holding it close to the microphone, it's very high pitched, it's very subtle so you have to make sure there aren't any other ambient sounds in your room, but it helps you find them so let's talk about the pros and cons of these headphones.
Starting on the Pro side of course sleep is possibly the most important thing, probably right after exercise, that you can do for your health, probably right behind exercise and most people really neglect it so something like this , if it can improve your sleep, it will help you. sleep a little more soundly or at least track your sleep and help you realize, hey, maybe the room is too hot or whatever, that could be a big health boost, gives you more energy, a better mood around you, you could live better if you sleep better, so that's positive, do anything, I think it could be positive for a lot of people if you have nonsense, this could be really beneficial, also if you sleep in a low environment, perhaps if your spouse or partner goes to bed too late or wakes up too early.
That could also help you stay asleep during those times and could really be a great solution for anyone who has difficulty sleeping, maybe if you like to listen to music or white noise or ASMR or whatever while you sleep. or fall asleep at least, this can definitely be a big benefit there and unlike many white noise speakers or noise machines, this one is much more portable and can easily fit in a backpack, you can use it like a hose on a plane . I don't think an airplane makes more sense, but you know, like in other environments, a hotel room, for example, if you're in the city, these could be really beneficial.
Another big positive is the Bose sleep buds I know of now on eBay. They're like $600, but even when they were new they were $300 and the case is a little more premium, but the headphones themselves aren't that different. In fact, I now find the Soundcore ones to be a little more comfortable and these Soundcore ones. some sell for $149 now, that's not a small sum of money, but I appreciate that these are half the price and in some ways it gives it a much more affordable price, but it's not all great when they talk about what's not there in these specifically some of These are drawbacks and some of them are just things that you should know that you won't get with this active noise cancellation, they don't have, they don't have wireless charging, they don't have high quality audio, but that's really not the goal of them, in my opinion, they have a very secure fit, but it's not like the safest thing you're not going to run with can potentially come out of your ears, but for sleeping again, that's the kind of Point, these don't They have a microphone, they don't have a water resistance rating again, none of those matter much when you're sleeping and they don't really have more advanced touch controls or any other color options, that's all like these.
In my opinion, I don't have one. I don't think any of those are deal breakers. I still think this is a really great product for specific people. It will not be for everyone, but for people who need to sleep better and drink something. disturbances, the

soundcore

Sleep a20 might be exactly what you're looking for, so yeah, for Sleep headphones, there's really not much more I could ask for, but let me know your thoughts on these headphones, are they going to last a while? worried about something, are they really exactly what you want?
