The two companies may sound very similar but they are not the same daimler in case you don't know, it was a brand that has been around for a long time, it is currently dormant but has been a feature in the automotive landscape for as long as cars have existed, in fact, in 1902 they received a royal order, which means that for a long time, in fact, half a century. the real fleet was daimlers now in the 50s and 60s, they changed hands several times being owned by bsa and other companies and then finally merged as part of jaguar who decided to use the daimler name as a trim level, so for For a long time in most markets, with the exception of the United States, Daimler was the top tier model and this particular model has an interesting history.

. Why is it that simple? Actually some people apparently just need to have a v12, I don't know what kind of dumb person would do that. I want to do that but hey there you go and the simple fact is that you can't get a v12 engine in the front of an xj40 generation xj so the 3 Series based Daimler remained the flagship car in the Jaguar stable for quite some time.

A few years ago it is a strange vehicle. It's a very, very strange item because it's hard for me to say who would want one now. This particular car has been in Andy's stable and he wanted one because he loves Jaguars and is obviously weird too. enough to want one with a v12 if you didn't know this is a 5.3 liter lump that jaguar used for quite a while, they introduced it in the 3e series type and then it powered several xj and several other cars in the fleet, if you want to go crazy , you can bore it and do all kinds of crazy things with it, but this is pretty much how it would have come out of the showroom;

In fact, this particular car was supplied to a showroom in Japan and he decided to purchase it. an import because it was pretty much the best way to find one of these in reasonably clean condition, unsurprisingly as with many British cars of this period, rust is a common problem and fortunately most are now of the age in They've been broken up or enough money has been spent on them that they are actually reasonably good cars and compared to many other classics they actually seem to be quite good value, in fact this particular car is at sale in cars and classics at the moment. for about 12 grand what surprises me about this car is how nice it is to drive now that its owner has lavished quite a bit of money on it the steering is actually very good for a big old barge it's not a fly weight at all and it will never It was designed to be the best handler in a car, but it has that little edge that one would expect any Jaguar product to have in terms of outright grunt.

It has something like 300 horsepower from the comically named version of the v12 it represents. High efficiency So what do we mean by high efficiency? Well the trip computer currently says we are doing 14 to the gallon and I didn't even have my foot on the gas. In fact, when we left this morning I said to Andy, do we have enough fuel and he said, well, how far are we going? I told him about 40 miles and he left. I only have one of the tanks full. You better put a little more if you want an efficient car. This is not the Look at my Ferrari 550 with lustful eyes.
It's basically a Prius compared to this old bus. If you're George's best boss, you don't really care about that kind of thing. You want it to look good and trust me on a Daimler

. six, you will look great, in fact this is a sensational car and it is in the right colour, jaguar racing green, absolutely gorgeous, unfortunately there are only three speeds on this automatic transmission and I can confirm that it really doesn't do much. It makes no difference which one the gearbox is in, but it's not that kind of car. This is a car that's all about maintaining speed.
I have

driven

three different cars on this road today: a Maserati Gran Turismo, a Jaguar XK convertible and this one. This one is actually a little firmer than the xk, just a little, just a small amount, it also seems to have better body control. It was actually quite surprising as with most cars designed in the 1970s the visibility is great because if we have a crash we'll die but the idea is that since you can see everything you won't actually have any blockages I want That is to say, it's reasonable logic until someone comes and runs you over in fiat multiplayer and all you're left with is some sort of green dust and some Connelly leather. you and they get out of your car wondering what land was planted, yes feet are planted now the gauges are moving unfortunately the two gauges that are moving are the fuel and the temperature oh well there are some cool features here you have windows electric and the highest in the world. depressing trip computer that not only looks horrible but gives you numbers you just don't want and I want to look at the clock I want the clock here we go I want that can't be the clock because if it is it's currently 38 minutes after 28. uh 1021, which isn't either, nevermind, it's British, they can't do everything right, what do you think, Jack, you're a miracle worker?
Gosh, no, oh, in the Benz, although this thing is absolutely lovely, it actually holds up pretty well, driving a lot harder. straight from what you'd expect, some sort of three decade old luxury car with a big v12 in the front, it's got so much, you could joke about it, quite a few good things going for it, it's got quite a bit of space here. It's not huge inside, but it can seat four people quite comfortably. Being a long wheeled car it also has plenty of boot space, as do many cars in this period, very long, very wide, not very tall, great for posters. salesmen that kind of thing, but believe me, they get this car to do 50-60 miles per hour on a B road and it's the happiest and they really tested the brakes, by the way, they're also a little scary because even though this auto was obviously It means it's automatic, the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are very close together and I mean, I drove a Ferrari 360 last week and this is pretty much the same thing.
I'm wearing my comfortable shoes and that was evidently a mistake in this car. It's pretty quiet here. Also, yes, a little bit of wind noise, hardly any tires or anything at all, big thin tires with very nice sidewalls, which is the way it leans, it's just beautiful, you feel like you move it a little, it's delicious, you can drive it like this. And honestly, it wasn't a car that I really thought I would like, but it actually has a lot to offer, it really does and at this point I should probably mention that Andy is one of the guys who runs the jaguar enthusiast. club, so if this is the kind of thing you're into, you should probably get in touch with them and hopefully next year they'll put on some events and things where you can come and meet the whole team and see a ton of cars like this one and I actually get information on how to buy a good one because believe me, like all vintage British cars from this period, if you buy wisely you will probably have a good time, if you buy wrong you will definitely be powerless.
I have some middle justice, it eventually picks up speed, but oh yes, what a lovely thing, to see the sensational front, so smooth, so composed in so many ways, then the Jaguars, the later cars, just so much better than this one, but because There wasn't much to distract. The people who built this know things like making the car hold together or not rust, things like that, they did certain things absolutely right and the way this car drives and the way it steers is as good as any car. luxury that you have ever found, no. Probably better than any luxury car on sale today.
I have driven here in a beautiful stylish new 2020 audi with air suspension and all the gubbins, nowhere near as purely comfortable as this one, maybe doesn't feel as luxurious as other jaguars. I've been using some of these materials here, I feel a little cheap, the leather here is an upgrade over what you get on your normal jaguar, but it still won't blow you away, it's no Bentley on that front, but it won't blow you away either. It comes with Bentley running costs, so there we have it, a strange and unusual car for me to drive one.
