Automated Indoor Vertical Grow Wall with LED Lighting + More at CES 2017

Apr 08, 2024
Alright! I'm John Kohler from

grow

yourgreens.com today with another exciting episode for you, all the way here in Las Vegas, Nevada. Can you see the super huge Venetian Hotel behind me and the reason I'm here today giving you a gardening episode here at the trade show we're at is actually the Consumer Electronics Show where they sell, as you know, gadgets and gadgets? . They have the latest like electric cars and all kinds of V.R. virtual reality stuff. I mean you guys who are technical, you actually get scared, if you're claustrophobic you'll get scared because there are so many people here, it's crazy.

But what I'm here today to do is share with you gardening technology, the latest technology in gardening automation for

grow

ing food and the latest stands that have to do with that kind of thing. So, you know, I come to this show, this is the second year that I come to the show to share with you the garden technology, and I have to say that I am actually disappointed with the garden technology. There's a lot of technology for doing all kinds of crazy things

indoor

s, but I think the industry as a whole is missing some of the technology applied to gardening and helping people grow

more

food at home.

More Interesting Facts About,

automated indoor vertical grow wall with led lighting more at ces 2017...

I mean, there's a lot of technology that can be used, but it just doesn't apply, maybe let's say, smart irrigation to control the flow of water into the raised garden. My simple ground motion meters or other ways to detect it. Anyway, there are definitely some interesting improvements that I'm about to share with you. Anyway, let's go ahead and get into the convention center and share with you some of this year's best gardening tech. I wet my pants, that is, I wet my soles. No, not with my urine, in fact I have been known to pee on my plants, it is a really good fertilizer.

But today we're going to water your plants with a really cool Wi-Fi connected sprinkler timer that will basically do everything for you, so you don't have to program your sprinkler timer. Now this setup is designed for people like my brother who doesn't garden. He doesn't really know how to set his watering timer and there are always changes you need to make to your watering timer, at different times of the year, depending on watering restrictions, the city you live in or the state. where you live, and this is made for him, as long as he has Wi-Fi in his house, he could connect it and it will take care of everything for him so he never has to lift a finger to water his lawn, or his garden, or his landscape again .

Anyway, let's go ahead and show you this unique Wi-Fi connected sprinkler controller and how I can help you save water, comply with local laws on watering restrictions, and allow your plants to grow even healthier. This is Netro. And what Netro is basically just a sprinkler timer and it's connected to Wi-Fi, so it's a smart sprinkler timer. There are no dials or buttons or anything to mess with on the unit. Basically, you just plug it into the

wall

and then you connect the twelve different wires to it, to control the twelve different zones or the 12 different solenoids that go out to your garden.
I think I'm using or maybe a total of four. or five channels or stations in my garden, so this would suit me perfectly. And basically, once you connect it, you can forget about it, because when it does, it basically connects to the Netro cloud and takes into account several different factors to determine the automatic watering cycles that it generates on its own. So it requires gardening knowledge, news, and state regulations, so it is updated and will only water according to state regulations without you having to pay attention to what they are. In fact, you could also water based on statistics, based on historical watering times, and of course you take into consideration the local weather in real time, like if it's raining outside, you know, and then you won't water and you'll save water, and you know. .
By itself, that's great. The other reason I thought I'd cover this for you today is because it's one of the lowest priced Wi-Fi connected smart water towers I've seen. Their suggested retail is ninety-nine dollars, but right now you see this, depending on when you see it, maybe over the next thirty days they basically drop the price, cut prices like maybe thirty percent off. This is really affordable for you guys and the other thing I really like about this is that you can get even smarter with your little sensors here. The sensors have built-in batteries. It charges with the sun and even if it doesn't get sun and is covered, you know it will run on batteries for up to thirty days.
So what this sensor measures, it measures a few things. Number one: it measures the humidity level, so you put it in the soil and measure the humidity level. So, better than watering based on the weather or watering based on any type of algorithm, is watering depending on whether the soil is dry or not. I mean, I think every irrigation system should water based on whether the soil is dry or not, because that's really the true test. I mean, even if it's not raining, your soil may still be wet from the last watering and you won't know it unless you have a moisture sensor.
The other thing that this records actually records the temperature of your soil, so you can also know the water based on temperature. It's in your garden and of course it also measures sunlight because it generates power through the photovoltaic panel here. And so you know how much sun your garden is getting, and all of this is taken into account when creating your own watering algorithm. I guess the main link of this system is basically your iPhone or tablet, so I want to go ahead and show you some of the features that they have and what you can search from anywhere in the world, once you have This system is installed and works on his house.
So the heart of the Netro system is basically an app that's on your phone and this is what it looks like you guys probably can't see very well. Basically here, it tells you if you are online or offline and the nice thing about this is that if you are offline, like if your Wi-Fi goes down, it will work for up to thirty days on the last program you remembered or downloaded. and after thirty days I guess it won't work any

more

and you'll have to restart it to get it working or to get Wi-Fi, so you definitely need an internet connection for this to work. for any period of time.
I know of other meters, the one I installed myself that is connected, if it disconnects, which actually doesn't happen often due to some wireless issues I have and I can use the last setting but then it runs indefinitely. . So that might be a good thing instead of just leaving it running for thirty days and it stops working and having to reboot or something, that's a little strange to me. Anyway here, you guys can see a few things, I mean, it shows the local weather forecast if it's going to rain, it also shows the forecast for the next few days and then it actually has different zones.
So I don't know if you can see that there, but basically it has zone one, zone two, zone three, you know when it was last watered, so it says zone one was last watered twenty-three hours ago. and will be watered next in five days and also shows the moisture level in the soil. So you go ahead and hit zone one and then it goes into more detail about that zone and some of the settings that you can set, like for example, it tells you the type of plant, whether it's shrubs, warm season grass, cool season grass. .
They don't have a setting for vegetables, in my opinion, they need to put that in, the type of soil, the type of sprinkler, whether it's tilted or not, because all of this will affect how the unit waters. And let's see if we press this other button here, we could actually go into statistics. This is what I find most interesting, I wish my current system had some kind of stats like this. Now, these stats only work if you have that sensor here on the right. And so you can actually see the sunlight levels in your garden over time.
That's actually quite impressive. You can see the temperature over time. We scroll up a little bit, you can see the soil moisture level over time and then down you can see how much irrigation water you've used and then down you can see the rainwater that you know it was. that was it rained and this is based on the weather forecast and rainfall in your specific area. We can cancel that out and I mean they have a lot of other features here, including a scheduling feature. So if you want to control this manually from your phone, you can definitely do that too.
The only thing I would say about this is that I think it's definitely good to know watering times that aren't whole minutes. So just like the irrigation system, I use the high aquajet irrigation system, I don't need to water even for a minute. I only need to water for thirty or forty-five seconds, so I hope they add this feature to the app, so people can water for less than a minute if that's what they need. I mean, if I just do a fifteen second cycle, I'm sure it's just going to push air through my irrigation system to basically oxygenate my root zone, which is definitely a good thing.
And let's see here, they also have another discovery area in the app and it basically allows you to see your water usage, how much you're saving in gallons, how much money you're saving over your lifetime. I mean this controller and plus the solar sensor, you know, could save you money in just a few months, especially some of the water and the rates that you pay and California, one of the most expensive water rates and I definitely would. I encourage you to know how to get some type of controller, a smart controller like this that can definitely save you money, most importantly save water, but most importantly it will allow you to grow healthier plants that are happy because they receive the amount adequate humidity.
Overwatering and even underwatering is a pretty big problem in gardening and this app has built in overwatering control so that never happens if you use the settings with the actual sensor. So if you want to learn more about how you can water your plants from your phone anywhere in the world, as long as you're connected and your Wi-Fi watering timer is connected, you can check them out at netrohome. .com. Now I want to show you the kanopy 25 booth. And you can learn more about them at kanopy25.com. And what they do is actually a kit so that any potted plant is now a self-watering plant so that it never runs out of water. and you know that you may have bought cheap and inexpensive self-watering pots before, basically like maintaining constant humidity in your plants.
You fill a tank and it keeps dumping water or, you know, pushing water into the plant like all the time. This system works differently. There are systems like that that have humidity probes that go into the ground and you know some of those types of work, but the problem with the humidity probe is that over time they corrode, they may not work and they may not, you already know your Players may not be getting adequate watering. This works in a completely new and different way, that is, like someone should have thought of this before and basically how it works, it's basically a scale.
So you put your potted plants on the scale, the scale knows the weight of your plants, and then when it dries up, the plant will consume the water or evaporate and then weigh less, so then the device detects it and waters your floors. It's a very simple and easy concept and they actually have it as a connected app so you can check it on your phone. You can water your plant from anywhere, plus you can see that you know the range when your plant is dry and when it is wet and you set the range between dry mode and wet mode so that the scale always keeps water. level between those lines and you can set them as big as you want or as small as you want, you know if you want a bigger dry cycle or a longer wet cycle.
So this can be very important because some plants, like basil, want a nice time where the soil is a little dry, they don't want to have constant water on their roots, maybe like a lettuce would like more water. That's really cool, so you know everything can be used, connected to Bluetooth and so on, and it works completely automatically, if, for example, the app is on your phone. You didn't install it on the wife's phone and she is at home. You can see the scale here and its standard scale is twenty-five centimeters, because it is in European standards.
They're coming out with the six-inch model soon, but anyway, you see that little red light, this red light is for people who don't have the app and don't get notifications, and their phone doesn't. It doesn't beep to let you know that your plane needs water. If you have it in the manual where you're manually watering, otherwise, back here are some connections,They basically have water inlet and outlet. They also have a small micro USB. port to charge the battery, which will last six months, and they also have an on and off switch and of course a small antenna.
So, in addition to being Bluetooth, it will connect to the Internet and upload information to the cloud. So you can access it on your phone from anywhere. But anyway if you're not all plugged in it has this red light and if you need water the red light will turn on and then when you water I'll simulate the water My hand so you put some weight on it and then it will turn blue to make you know that it is getting water and then at a certain point it will turn green. Look, it turned green. Once it turns green, you know it's okay, this plant is good.
It has enough water, so you can stop watering and this is for your wife, the housekeeper if you are lucky enough to have one, the maid or whoever to know hey if it's red water and if it's green don't water. . So yeah, super simple, super easy. Now I want to go ahead and explain to you in depth how this works and maybe some of the things you can do with all of this from the portability of your phone. So now I am going to share more with you how the Canopy 25 works and as you can see here, there is a unit, Kanopy 25 at the bottom and on the top, they have a potted plant.
Now the good thing about this system is that you can use any potted plant, it will work, regardless, as long as the weight of the plant, the pot with the plants and all the soil is less than eighty-eight pounds or forty kilos, to that you can You can put some nice large plants. And this was designed for those who maybe are just growing some vegetables, but maybe have houseplants, maybe are trying to grow a coconut palm or some really interesting fruit trees inside their house and of course, I have good lightning. And you don't want them to run out of water and you can't depend on your roommates to water it when you're traveling.
So you could put big, nice, heavy plants in the kanopy 25, so that the water is taken care of for you, so you don't have to worry about it. And the nice thing is, unlike a lot of systems that have reservoirs and all that kind of stuff, you don't have to worry about any of that because in this system you can use any container you want to hold the water and you know you're going to get a What do I care about, a fifty-five gallon drum and I put it in your house, but it was fifty-five gallons of water.
Place this unit here that would actually plug into the

wall

. Instead of just letting it run on the batteries, it will continue to run. I don't know, prime for a year and just water the plant because basically here it just absorbs the water and you have an air stone in there, but that's Not using it for air, you'll just like it to act as a filtration device to draw the water out. and then it gets sucked in through the inlet and then basically goes out the outlet to a little drip system at the top of the plant.
So yeah, I mean it's really quite simple. I mean they have complex software to interact with Bluetooth and apps and all that kind of stuff, but I mean it's an ingenious invention. The next thing you have in your hands shows you some pictures of what it looks like and shows you how easy it is. To set it up now, I want to show you what that Alpha looks like on this and I think this could be really insightful and help you control the watering of any part of the plant, even if you're just using it for your plan. for a moment to find out how much water the plant really needs.
I mean, I've been to some medical cannabis grows where they actually do it. They checked and I showed it in the video where they check the weight of each plant to see that it has some fish per ounce of water, no this takes all of that to the next level of the scientific level because there is a precise scale that does it all. you. Anyway on the app. There are only a few sessions, this app is super simple and easy to use, so you only need to set two things: set the upper limit and the lower limit.
So you know that the scale will keep the water within these limits, so what happens is you go to water. It will be the upper limit and over time the water will evaporate or the plants will use it at that time the humidity level will go down and then once it reaches the lower limit it will say oh it is out of water the weight is too light , we better start watering, so now the unit will start watering and watering and watering and watering until it reaches the upper limit and then it cuts off and then basically the plant uses the water and it evaporates and then it gives a lower limit. then the water is again.
Look, you can see how quickly your plant is using the water or if you live in Las Vegas or something where the water and Gatorade flooded out the ends. You can see how quickly it is evaporating. And then you will know how quickly you need to replenish the water. So this definitely gives you some good ideas on how to properly water your plant and care for it. So you can have the optimal level of success and I really like this is my favorite thing for the garden tank at the show because it's very simple but basically it's about applying a simple concept of weight to water your plants and I wish there was more .
Technology like this is so super simple. I just wish they could make this so big that I can put it under one of my raised beds. Watering our entire garden now by weight would be impressive. Anyway, this unit is currently available in Europe. I think it's about one hundred and thirty-nine euros. Hopefully it will be in the US soon and bring the same amount in US dollars and they will soon come out with a six inch or six inch version, sorry... that version will cost a lot less money, but there is no price. announced at this time.
If you want to learn more about this, be sure to visit kanopy25.com. Now I want to show you guys my favorite booth here at CES

2017

, for growing food. It is actually the OPCOM booth. They are a Taiwanese company and have established distribution in the United States. They have been shipping their products in the US for several months and have some new products on the way. And you guys probably can't see it right now because it's cutting out, because there are so many people gathered around and you know. The good thing about CES is that there's so much technology here, there's not a lot of green, there's not a lot of plants growing, so this booth gets a lot of attention.
Everyone wants to see plants grow well. We all have to eat well, let's take some responsibility and grow some of the food we eat at home and Opcom makes it easy for you. So this company basically specializes in manufacturing endoscopes. They also specialize in

lighting

like Elegy. They basically took this to the next level and used what they know about

lighting

and all that, and now they're making basically hydroponic systems that have their special LED spectrum built in, so you guys can grow your own food at home under hydroponics. , and these are some of the cleanest systems I've seen.
They have several, so I'm going to go ahead and take you to the booth and show you some of the systems, as well as some of the components that they sell, that will allow you to grow more food at home. So the first product I'm going to show you today is the Opcom grow box and it's here. And as you can see, it's basically just a frame and it has lights, 4 lights that are adjustable, you move them up and you can move them down, so all your plants get the light they need to thrive. It is basically a hydroponic deep water growing system.
Basically, there is water in the container all the time and you can grow fifty plants in here and also, in addition to the fifty plants, you have an area to grow sprouts or microgreens. This is something I really like a lot, and there's a little box here, with all the different controls so you can control the pump and the LEDs or just put it on auto mode if you don't want to deal with anything. . It will turn itself on, it will turn itself off, the lights and everything will work, so basically you guys are just going to have to monitor the hydroponic solution to make sure the pH is right, also make sure you have enough nutrients in there and that they give.
You will receive a small kit that will prepare you, including seeds, for six months of growing when you purchase the grow box here. This is a configuration of it. These actually come loose too and you can move them up and down and that's the one next to it, they basically have a net over it so bugs and stuff can't get in there, and actually it's probably spread out maybe two feet, maybe a little more. in the air. They have some lettuce growing there and they use basically 18 watts. So now I want to share with you a special offer here.
You guys are interested in the grow box that sells for $499 for the next products I'll show you, the grow wall that I like the most for $599, you get a hundred dollars off until January 15th. So you have a couple more days to do that and you can use an Opcom CES

2017

coupon code to purchase these products at opcom.com, they ship from Southern California. So when you buy the grow box that I just showed you, or the grow walls that I'll show you in a second, you get this little starter kit. So this is the starter kit that you will need to start growing and they basically give you a pH meter and an EC meter as well as all the different seeds that are in little capsules for you.
Also little filters and basically the nutrients and the pH goes up, the pH goes down all this kind of stuff, everything you're going to need for six months to grow good vegetables. then they have lettuce and basil and all that, but you don't have to use their specific seeds, you can use your own seeds and you can also use your own hydroponic nutrient solution if you want to use an organic solution or not. That's really cool, they give you six full months with a one-time investment. Many of you, I now know, might be in the middle of winter.
You are confined to your house all winter. What better use than to get one of these products so you can grow

indoor

s? And the one that I'm going to show you next is the one that interests me the most, the one that I like the most because it allows you to grow seventy-five plants in just a small amount of

vertical

space in your house. Plus, it looks really cool. I call it a show stopper. So what we'll look at next is Opcom's growth wall. This is the only unit I like in this whole place, you can grow seventy-five plants for about six hundred dollars, minus a hundred dollar discount if you buy it very early.
And it has built-in LEDs that I turned off so you guys can see it because, like the lighting here, as much as it's good for the plants, it's not good for a video. So it usually has lighting that turns on and off automatically. And this is a system where the water flows up and down to the different levels and then drains to the bottom and in addition to having one, two, three, four or five levels of plants, it also has a small area in the background so you can You can grow your sprouts or microgreens, sprouts and microgreens are some of the most nutritious foods on the entire planet and I've never seen before, a growing system that actually has a gadget and you guys can grow your sprouts and microgreens.
So this is really cool, one of the things that you guys can't see, is that there is an optional camera that actually clips onto the unit, it's a little bit above the socket, but it basically produces still frame photographs so that you can have a lapse of time. of your growth. This is completely incredible technology - they fit into a single freestanding unit that could be against a wall or even in the kitchen. Let's go ahead and show you some of the specific details about the grow wall. So what we're seeing now is more of a close-up of Opcom's crop wall.
This is a base of things that you see like one, two and maybe like the third level, and on this side there is a controller here that controls the pump, the LEDs, you can control manually or just press the auto button and of course, There is the on/off button. We can turn it on, you can see the lights, we're going to turn it off because it looks a little better on camera. But as you can see, there are basically just little holes and you put the little plants in the holes and the ebb and flow hydroponic system basically waters everything.
The only thing I like about this is that it uses thirty watt LED lights that you can rotate and they have a system that comes out with sixty five watt LED lights that are the bright spectrum for your plants. I recommend thirty watts, if you are growing something like lettuce or leafy crops. If you want to grow something that bears fruit or flowers, then you'll want to use more powerful sixty-five watt LED lights here, and the thing is, it's fully adjustable, so you can move the lights up. and below. You can also move them closer or further away, depending on whether you are getting off to a good start with your seedlings.
You want to bring thelights to the ceilings and then turning them off, but yeah, I mean, I really like this setup, how everything is set up, and then of course you know they have the E.C. meters. and pH hung correctly. here, so you have easy access to check your hydroponic nutrient solution and make sure it is balanced. I mean, I think the most important thing about this system is that you want to make sure you have adequate nutrient levels and proper pH and everything else will be taken care of for you, including turning the lights on and off.
And you're going to have amazing food growing in your own living room. Next, I want to dive into this and show you where you can grow your own sprouts or microgreens because that's really cool and can produce even faster crops and a quicker turnaround of more nutritious crops than just the standard one. lettuce, which is growing above. So what you're looking at now is the nutrient tank for the Opcom grow wall, this is where it drains all the water and when it's not pumping. The water that's in here when you pump, it pumps the water up completely and then just go all the way down and all the plants are watered.
But at the bottom they've done something really clever with water storage up here, in this case they're growing sprouts and then they've got some wheatgrass growing. Wheatgrass is a really nutritious food, wheatgrass is known to absorb up to ninety different trace elements and when we eat it, you will get all those trace elements, plus there are definitely beneficial phytonutrients and phytochemicals in wheat. grass. I mean, when was the last time you ate grass? Hopefully the cows eat the grass well, then we eat the cows to get the nutrition from the grass and they ate. Well, they are like free-range cows.
Unfortunately, most cows today eat genetically modified corn and soybeans and I don't recommend that you eat genetically modified corn or soybeans or cows that eat genetically modified corn and soybeans, so let's just eliminate the cow and you. Kids can eat the grass or grow their own grass or other microgreens. So microgreens are four to forty times more nutritious than the full-sized greens you're growing previously. Plus, these guys can be prepared in as little as ten days. You could have some microgreens or wheatgrass to chew and juice with your teeth, use a juicer or just put them in smoothies and enjoy.
So you get nutrition from them. Now the one thing I recommend if you get a hydroponic setup like this or any hydroponic setup, I want to encourage you to add additional trace minerals, like an ocean solution product or a grow friend product, to easily make sure your plants are getting the full spectrum. of up to ninety different trace minerals because most hydroponic solutions can provide just a handful and maybe, if you like, up to sixteen different minerals. So this is once again my favorite farming unit throughout the entire event. Again, seventy-five full plants plus your microgreens, five ninety-nine at retail price and for a limited time get a hundred dollars off.
Now I want to show you two more products that Opcom has developed that will be launched soon or are already available. Now to show the guys how they grow thirty-three vegetables on their wall with the Opcom growing frame. You know if you're going to grow some succulents like this or lettuce like you have here, even other herbs and basil and whatever you guys could do with this, one hundred and ninety-nine dollars is the retail price. This is incredible. Thirty-three plants are a lot of plants. Now you know what I have is that they are kind of close together, so you have to grow some plants if they don't grow too big.
I like the other configuration, so we have a lot more room to expand, but hey, if there are one hundred and ninety-nine pieces that have built-in LED lighting and built-in pumps to automatically water your plants, then they will have the right amount of water to allow you to do so. Hey, I say, it grows well. But this setup basically does everything you need, you need to start your plants and pump the water out once again, that's the hydroponic system and it will give you the starter kits that you can start growing. there is no time. So this product has not been released yet and I am looking forward to it coming out.
Like I said before, you know I prefer larger systems, but if you have a small apartment, it would be great to grow some food. The next setup that I want to show you that Opcom produces, which will be producing soon, is actually there for a commercial setup, like if you have a restaurant or something. This is probably the best trading setup. This is completely

automated

for growing food here at CES 2017. So now I'm going to share with you the last product that I'm going to share with you today at Opcom, it's the Opcom Farming Cube, and as you can look there it is.
I mean, it's the size of maybe a larger refrigerator, it has one, two, three, four different levels to grow the two hundred different plants. Additionally, it has a water tank and a tank for PH adjusters underneath, as well as a nutrient solution right underneath. So yeah, it looks really cool, they have built in LED lights and cameras that allow you to monitor how your plants are doing. Let's go ahead and show you a close up of the farm cube. Therefore, the Opcom agricultural cube is designed perhaps for restaurants and for professional or agricultural use. Although you could buy one for your home if you have some extra money, it's not available yet;
It will be available perhaps in the third quarter of 2017, with a projected price of between three thousand and four thousand dollars. This is actually quite expensive and for that you will be able to grow up to two hundred different plants, so you could provide the lettuce for your restaurant for example, and then again, in addition to just the lettuce or the vegetables or herbs that you will grow you can also grow those microgreens on each level. So I really really like that, again, we have more layers here with all the LED lighting built in as well as fans that control the temperature, it basically does everything you need to do so you can basically fill it with water.
Fill it with nutrients and walk away and come back and harvest your own vegetables. Let's go ahead and go down to the bottom and show you some of the computer controls and all the nutrients in the water storage that it has built in. So this is the bottom part of the farm and as you can see, this is the bottom level that we grow all the plants plus the microgreens and then down below we have a lot of water storage as well as the nutrient solutions and the controller. You know it actually has a water purifier, it uses UV rays to clean the water.
You also know that it is fully automatic, it has an air point, air refresh, pump, LED, automatic button and also this is the Wi-Fi of this baby, so you can connect it and check it with the apps on iOS or Android. This is definitely something to look for if you like growing a lot of food and want to start a farm. I mean, again, three thousand to four thousand dollars, you guys can put together your own setup like this, but this is a stand-alone kit that you know, if a restaurant has or something like that, they just want to put something in and they don't. .
They don't want to put it together themselves. Hey, it's a complete system, it looks great and to me it seems really integrated. I guess the next step Opcom wants to take is to take them even further and even start creating, you know. container farms and all that kind of stuff that's really cool, they got a mockup of what it's going to look like. Yes, until then we have these home units and they will expand to a more commercial level in the future and hopefully they will continue to release some really good products that will allow you to grow more food at home.
You can learn more about them at Opcom.com. So now I'm going to show you the booth that probably gets the most looks for signing up the most difficult to film because there are people who come and try to take videos and show what this actually is and where you and Natufia's booth is. Like I want to join Natifua once, what does that mean? Well, Natufia is the first recorded tribe to actually start growing their own food, so what we have here is basically a side of the refrigerator or a small refrigerator-sized growing chamber that will completely grow your plants from of seeds to produce food for you.
Now this is designed for people with a lot of skill in places like restaurants or bars because you know it's a little expensive, but basically this does everything for you automatically. So let me go ahead and open this up and show you what it looks like inside. Alright, the special LED lights lit up and it was hard to see me, but you can see the unit here and one of the things I like about this unit. Unlike others I've seen before, this unit is quality made, I mean it's like stainless steel, all of this. I'm even referring to the small containers that basically cascade water.
It's all ceramic and it means that when it's watered down it looks like you know one of those gutters that drip over all the different things and legs, which makes it really cool. This may not be the optimal setup for growing a lot of food because I think you can only really fit thirty-two plants in this setup, but they do have other setups available if you want to pack more plants in there. Depending on your specific needs, what I like about this is that it's completely automatic, you literally plug the water in, you can drain it, and there's a computer control on the top of the unit that really takes care of everything for you. .
It is grown under a hydroponic system. And there are different tests that measure the water temperature or the air temperature inside the unit. Check that the fans turn off and on to keep them at the right temperature and also check it, man. They have speakers here that play different music than on the floor. So maybe your players will even improve. I mean this company has it all figured out. They have done many things to ensure that they will get the best growth. The next thing I want to do is make sure that these guys are some of the creatures and parts of this amazing pot.
So this unit is about seven or eight feet tall. So it's actually quite tall and as you can see, you get a nice glass cover, not this cheap plastic stuff. I mean, this is a quality unit coming out of a studio. So, I don't know, I think its home and distribution in the US now. But anyway, at the bottom, down here, where they would like to refrigerate those refrigerators. That's where the water compartment is stored so they have a water storage where they mix the nutrient solution and maintain the proper water pH and then they have two drawers here so this is an easy drawer and actually it's pretty good.
I never got to see my camera, but there's basically a small screen built in and once again all the electronics are on top. So like you know if there's a water leak, it's not going to be damaged and it basically tells you some of the different things that you can turn on and off, turn the lights on or off, turn the fan on and off, turn on the music so you can last Metallica. two plants maybe grow better and you know, don't laugh, there have been studies where plants have been selected and they grow better, so you might want to try it, you know, men try to keep it fresh if that's the case. like at your neighbor's house and don't invite them out and don't be like my friend I know phyla get some thousand dollar lightweight speakers to play music for your plants.
Oh, and then if you don't want to use this screen down here, you can always plug it into your phone. You know you can control it through your phone. So that's really cool, control this unit down here, basically you put plant nutrients as well as a PH up into a PH down, using all or gaining nutrients here and this measures the PH of your water and adjusts it accordingly. consequence. . It also detects connectivity in the water to determine if there are too many or too few nutrients in the water. If it is not good, the water is spoiling too much.
Basically you will just rinse it and then refill it and then add more nutrients to keep the proper balance. This is one of the big challenges I have with hydroponics. I don't want to be sitting around measuring my Ph. You know, just at my Ph. All the time. I need a system like this to do it for me. I mean, look at this, swipe these things and look at this. I mean down to the bottom. These look like pretty stones, like paws, pretty rocks. I mean, they look very decorative. It is definitely a luxury piece. You know, it looks great out of place in my place.
But anyway, so your other compartment is a little drawer, let's take this out and we'll show you what's in yours. Look and they got all these little casts, so they put on like a little... andWith a little ceramic, stone grew and then more. Here they have some little pots in which all the plants are kept from seed. So the only plastic that is used in this unit is here, it's basically like a Net Pod, but it's a plastic and this plastic is not just any old plastic, number one is food grade plastic. Number two, it's not just you.
Be biodegradable like some plastics, which I think is a misnomer as biodegradable plastic. It still breaks down into smaller pieces. This is actually a fully compostable plastic from what they're telling me and just a little packet of seeds, a little seed like this, is less than a dollar, so once you're up and running with these, you know you could produce some food for relatively It's inexpensive and you put all the seed pods in here and basically you know you just germinate them, start them and once they grow, you'll transplant them into the middle unit. I really like that it's basically an all-in-one unit.
The only thing you may need to grow your plants in a nice, really good fully

automated

garden. Now the only negative thing I can tell you about this unit is the price. There are thirteen thousand. The suggested price may go down or whatever. I mean it's definitely a quality piece. There is a lot of technology here. You know, but that's definitely a bit worn out. If you want to learn more about it, visit the website natufia.com. That's it for gardening technology at this year's CES 2017. I wish there were more companies that actually had some interesting gardening technologies, you know, all these technologies have been available, like monitoring your sleep, monitoring your fitness, monitoring kinds of crazy things.
I know you guys could monitor, but there's no gardening technology we all need to eat. You know how to eat every day and I think you know some of this technology which is great. You know, it should be used to help people grow food more efficiently, things like saving water, saving resources, all these kinds of things. You know, I've seen a lot of interesting things here, but I think a lot of things are, in my opinion, a waste. of space is a waste of time, money and resources for more consumer products that may not be as necessary in our consumerist society in which we live.
Unfortunately. Anyway, I'm glad you guys stuck around until the end of this episode and I want you to know. I want to meet them. Your comments, like what do you think is the episode you like?, to please me. A thumbs up that only encourages me to do it. I'll be back at CES in the next few years to share new gardening technology with you because I just like to stay up to date with all the information about gardening and how to grow food. And that's why I bring you these programs because no one else that I know is covering all the programs and all these products that I know and you know, I know a lot of you might complain, John, that things are too expensive and yes, some Things are expensive, but you must realize that some of you are like expert gardeners, expert growers, who can grow crops with nothing.
Good. You can just put it on a desert island and you guys can grow some food, but there are a lot of people who don't know how to grow food, they're intimidated because they've never done it before and that's where I really think some gardening techs could do it. help them grow more food and plants successfully and that's why I'm all for growing some food. Do you want to do it? I simply make the information available for you to do that. So do thumbs, if you like. I will be sure to return to the next C ES in the future.
We might as well get some school. I have been very low. If you haven't watched my videos before to get notified of my upcoming episodes coming out every three to four days, you never know where I'll show what you'll learn on my YouTube channel and not. forget.
