Oppo Find N2 hands on & Surface Duo comparison!

Mar 14, 2024
Hi everyone, I'm Phil and today we're taking a look at the Oppo Find N2, so this is a device that I was really excited about when it was announced because it has a wider aspect ratio so it's closer to what I'm used to. to phone screens but with a foldable design so it has a big screen in the middle and I'll let you know my first impressions of it and also since I'm a large

surface

area Duo Advocate, we'll look at this in

comparison

. with the Duo

surface

two in this case, which you know, I have removed the camera bump because I don't like camera bumps, so the top

find

in two comes in this big box for some reason this box is huge, I don't know what they're compensating for with this box, but it's very big and there's not much inside, so it's what you'd expect: the phone in open mode and then you have the charger cable and then, I think this is just documentation and protectors. screen, so I wouldn't have known that I wouldn't have needed this big box with Chinese letters.

I'm not really sure what it means, but it's probably a corporate slogan. I could probably look it up, but I'm not going to. do it right now because it's unnecessary, so once you open it you will get the phone, which I have this kind of blue-green color, I guess it looks good. I would have preferred it to be black, but it was not available at this time. And uh, the black version also comes in a faux leather type finish which I'm not a big fan of, as you can see it's pretty standard phone dimensions, but what I want to point out is that this is a very small phone. device, so it is very small compared to especially current flagship devices.

More Interesting Facts About,

oppo find n2 hands on surface duo comparison...

If you put it next to my Nexus 5, which is already a very small device by today's standards, you can see that it is quite a bit smaller and reminds me in some ways of devices we used to have like the iPhone 4 or the old Xperia Compact that I had, I think the 12C or something like that um and it's more reminiscent of that type of device uh uh yeah and then once you open it up, it works like this and it goes to the main menu or I guess the secondary menu, whatever you want. Look at it as a screen that has a crease but it's less pronounced than, say, Samsung devices and once you look at it from a front perspective you don't notice it.

What you do notice though is once you pass it and this is my first foldable device so I'm not used to this but it's still very noticeable once you pass it and I'm not a fan of that so it has a very wide fold in

comparison

, which has a very gentle curve, it's not that intrusive, I guess once you're using it, but you notice it once you swipe it, you can obviously multitask on this if for example you open Twitter you have a little bar somewhere on the side that you can slide out and as you saw now, you'll often mistakenly pull out the back gesture that this type of teardrop animation has.

I don't need it, but I guess it looks fun in a way and then you get this little bar and you can start a second application. I guess it starts up in this floating window first, but you can drive it around, drag it to the side and it just goes into split screen, which gives you two pretty standard shaped phone screens that you can use independently of each other and then even the Save as a pair in the recent apps menu and you can launch them immediately from this menu. What's a bit annoying about this approach? is that if you can launch a different app from this little bar at the top which you can also use to end split screen mode, if you click on it you can launch a different app which sends you to the home screen which is The In my opinion the correct approach is that you can start for example not Instagram because it says it does not support split screen and this is the biggest limitation I have found so far with this phone, some applications just do not want to play with that.
Split screen mode for YouTube, for example, works fine, but if you want to use Twitter and Instagram, which isn't that strange a combination for me, it doesn't work, which is very annoying because, on the surface, Duo, like probably you know, you're looking at this, it works very well, so for example, I have my Twitter and Instagram pairing saved even as my social group and then you can open another app here, like YouTube, and it's much more intuitive in the multitasking experience because Well, there are two or two separate screens, at least they are presented to us.
If you're familiar with the Surface Duo, you'll know that the system. It's not actually splitting the screens into this is a single screen, but it is. in its programming, some heavy lifting to make it feel like two completely separate phones at times that obviously communicate with each other quite well, so I appreciate the multitasking approach on the Surface 2 a little more, but if you're coming from a Samsung device you'll probably be used to this because I think it is a similar system. I was hoping for a bit of a smoother experience with this one but I think it's just a matter of getting used to it, the profile is quite thin and it has that camera bump which by today's standards probably isn't that egregious, unfortunately with this one because it has a curve.
If you can see this in the middle part, I won't be able to cut it like I did with the surface, but compared to surface 202 it's fair. a little thicker, so it's a powerful device, but it's also a little thicker and feels very substantial in your hand when you carry it closed. You can see that the hinge type itself looks quite similar to what Samsung does with its foldable devices. bar on the back but it's very well made it feels very solid it has some weight it definitely feels heavier than the Surface Duo because partly because it's bigger but also because it's thicker it's on a metal body Construction and uh yeah , it feels Heavier on the back it has the camera array and, uh, you can see it has the zoom camera, which unfortunately only has two power and it has a 32 MP Sony sensor, which should have cameras with Sony sensors, but it has an ultra white camera there. well what I like and then the main camera is a 1.56 inch Sony sensor and it is 12.5 megapixels by default and the cameras are okay, they are good cameras, sometimes they are a little saturated, but I think it's very useful for most. folks, I think the quality will be pretty good and they are co-branded with Hasselblad so you should be fine with these cameras.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the cameras on my Surface Duo so I won't compare them and this is not a comprehensive review so I'm not going to do any real testing with the cameras. I'll just give you my first impressions and try to give you an idea of the device, so again a comparison with it. On the Surface 2, multitasking, as you already saw, is not as intuitive, so you don't have the two separate screens that you would have on the Surface Duo. It's also quite a bit smaller and the aspect ratio is very much square. For some reason the fingerprint sensor doesn't work most of the time which is really annoying and then if for example you open YouTube on both I think it will be quite noticeable that the aspect ratio is very square on the N2 undefined phone so it's on the surface 202 so that's a bit annoying too but of course the duo2 has more bezels so I guess in the end it feels somewhat similar and I mean it won't kill you it's a little smaller than the Surface 202.
So if you're a Duo user and considering this, keep in mind that it's a little smaller so it definitely won't feel the same if you use it and I'm not a big fan of this either. aspect ratio when it comes to viewing text, for example. on Twitter it feels weird in this kind of square aspect ratio. I guess it's not just that I'm not used to it, but for me this aspect ratio for the screen feels better even compared to the normal type of phone. split-screen aspect ratio on the Find N2, you obviously won't have the seam between the displays that the Surface Duo has, which is supposedly the direction Microsoft is going, so I think that's kind of an idea of what it will be. the next.
Surface device, if they make one, might look like this, but I hope they keep the Surface Duo aspect ratio and don't go to this kind of square screen. I would really like the device to have the same proportions as the Surface 202 but with obviously smaller bezels and maybe just a small bezel with the camera in there, uh, but we'll see what Microsoft does or doesn't do. What you may have also noticed is that it rocks on the table, this is sort of a test for me if I'm going to be able to use this the way I like, unfortunately the Oppo Find N2 doesn't pass this, it rocks quite a bit on that bump of the camera, if you close it, it's a little bit better because it's a little square at the bottom, so it doesn't wobble as noticeably, but there's still a little wobble there.
I have a case for it, but even the case has a protrusion on the chamber which defeats the purpose, as I would prefer if you just cut it off and lay it flat with the case. I mean, what does it have that extra volume for? If not, I think this is a very good device. What you should also keep in mind is that sometimes you will get random Chinese things. there, if you search for this from the Chinese market, if you import it because that's just the market it's designed for, so you'll have, for example, this Oppo payment app which, for obvious reasons, I haven't set up, but it launches automatically if it duplicates if you double click the power button which as a pixel user I expect it to start the camera which is a pain.
I would have liked that to start the camera and behave in the same way as the pixel, but it doesn't, another thing is that this hinge doesn't want to be at an intermediate angle, which obviously if you are a Surface Studio user the you will use and in various positions I usually use mine like this because it is easier. to hold like a book and then obviously you can fold it back, you can have it in portable mode and in tent mode and everything that the top

find

s and 2 doesn't want to be used this way, it can kind of stay open in this middle position and it gives you in the 90 degree position it gives you this camera mode uh you can also launch different applications that are designed to work this way it will be like a tripod like this tripod itself in this direction in this orientation, which is great, you have the finder on one screen and then you have the controls on the other, which is not a good idea, but there are no solid stops. or anything, it feels very squishy and feels like it wants to go back to that completely flat position and then once you get to this, it flips over and wants to close, so it definitely feels a little stretchy and not as soft as the surface duel hinge closes with a nice satisfying clap here um yeah so it's not so suited for that kind of I don't know what's going on here sometimes weird stuff like this happens and uh it moves to the left Instagram side but then you can't do anything on the other side, it's very strange, so it will just launch in this floating window, if you open a second app it will just launch in this floating window, but then you won't be able to snap it to the side because Instagram does not support split screen, which is not surprising.
Instagram is notoriously bad at supporting different screen aspect ratios and stuff, it's a bit wonky on the Surface 202, almost unusable if you're a fan of stories because, as you know, they crop. They are really bad, so I also have the pen and I haven't opened it yet, so I'll do a little unboxing. I guess let me get a box cutter, we'll open this up, let me put it back. in the drawer because otherwise the kids will try to play with it and then it's one of those friction boxes that don't want to open, it got damaged okay here we go so this is the Oppo pen you can see it's kind of of round pen. with a flat side so it feels reasonably well made, it's more metallic to the touch than the surface of the slim pen which is obviously a plastic design and I actually quite like it, it's very comfortable to write on but it has this flat design, so it could be.
It might be a bit hard to get used to for some people, for me it's very comfortable so the Oppo stylus is more like a pen, I guess it would be quite nice to use and it comes with this charge. The crib too, so again, this is a more rounded design. I guess the surface one is very angular and just the edges are around it and then it just goes into its magnetic form, as you would probably already expect, and yeah, this is it. the back and let's try this on the top end of search as well, so let's see what we can get with the Oppo stylus, so I would hope that if you hover over it, maybe a menu will appear, but no, no, we're not so lucky . to pair it first Let's do a long press and see if anything pops up, okay, bluetooth is off, okay, let's see a pen, here we go, pairing, use Bluetooth, okay, hello.
I guess why a pen needs access to its recordscalls. I didn't understand it, but okay, so it's connected, as you can see, it responds, it didn't respond, uh, while it wasn't paired, like the surface pin does on the surface slim pen, let's see what we can get with one click, no menu or anything. Do we have any pencil menu? Well, double clicking gives me a screenshot. A single click doesn't give me anything bad. Pressing doesn't give me anything either, so that's a little disappointing, but maybe we can customize it. Look, do we have a pen menu? pen, handwriting feedback and handwriting feedback, okay, I can get haptic feedback when I'm driving and then we can take a screenshot.
You can also delay auto-locking which I think is probably a good idea and then auto-updates will do it automatically. update the pen firmware whenever it's connected, that's pretty nice, basic, you can also switch between what the button does, switch between the current tool and the eraser, the current melody last used. Show color palette and disable it. I'll leave it at that. is and then I guess it will have something that looks like a notes app, look and then it has this little notes app that doesn't give me any sensitivity at the moment, oh it does have sensitivity, okay, I would definitely expect it to have sensitivity in the ballpark.
Edge, so there's no post eraser, as you can see, I do this instinctively because the surface does, um, but this doesn't have one, so it says switching between the current tool and the eraser doesn't do that, okay, you know , now I have you can't hold it and you use a different tool which is also a pain so on the surface pin once you hold the button you will switch to eraser but it also has a post eraser and also on the back button if you press that you'll get a pencil menu, if we click twice we'll get a screenshot so it's the same thing and then we hold it down.
I don't think it has anything assigned to long press, but if you go to the search settings. we'll go to the connected devices surface pen and then you can see you can change the hand to write, you can change the charging of the pen through the charging cover if you have that auto charging and then the pen shortcuts, it's more customizable than the Oppo in which to have a pen menu with a single click double click screenshot hold and you can assign it to several different things the pen menu screenshot create a page in OneNote or open any of these apps I don't normally use this so I don't really need it.
It's, yeah, so you have more actions on the surface of the slim pen than on the Oppo pin. In case you're wondering, it doesn't come with Google Play services enabled, but it does have a pretty simple menu that you can search through. the menu and then it says Google Settings and you can just turn on mobile services and you get Google Play and you can use it like you would otherwise, so it's definitely intended for the Chinese market, but it doesn't stop you from using it as a phone in the market American or Western, so it was a pleasant surprise how easy it was.
I didn't have to carry anything or similar shenanigans. I think that's all I want to say about this top device, at the moment I haven't had it. I had it really long so it's definitely just a First Impressions video and I'm not sure if I'll make a longer one because it wasn't exactly what I wanted so it didn't have as wide an aspect ratio as it would have had. I liked it and it's also a lot smaller than I would have preferred and a lot thicker than I would have preferred so I think what I'm going to do is stick with my Surface 202 and have my Pixel 5 in my other pocket like I have been using. because since I had the Surface Duo, but I think this gives you a very good first impression of what the Google Pixel Glitch would look like or what the Pixel Passport Pixel Fold is called again because they are supposed to be pretty similar in dimensions I.
I would prefer it to be a little taller and a little wider, but we will see that it could be quite similar to what Google is cooking up if this device had a Google operating system and would behave like a pixel device, for example, like I said with the camera. I think I would really like that and I think it might replace my Pixel 5 at some point, yeah that's it for my little First Impressions video of the Oppo Find N2. I hope you liked it, if you could send me a comment, maybe there will be something.
If you would like to see from this device what I could make as a short film, for example, let me know in the comments and I will try to make that happen, so thanks for watching and I hope to see you again abroad.
