Patricia recently stopped by Studio 1A and shared what we can expect, tell us about the character you play, yes I fell in love. I fell in love with it when I read it and it was based on one of our writers, Nancy Fishman, Marjorie's sister, who had struggled with drug addiction, but at one point she was like, you know, I think I'm going to be a private detective. and she's like, you'd actually be great at that, so this is kind of a fictional dream of if Marjorie Phoenix had survived and become a private detective, what would her wild life be like?

Wait, is it true that you actually have some experience in the pi department. I've had a lot of little jobs along the way and once or one day I worked for a private council, yeah, and while I was talking to this smart person who was supposed to be the person we were recording my microphone with. He dropped what oh you got arrested well he left right away so I grabbed him because I had made a movie before my degree was over and I ran to the bathroom and reconnected oh my gosh yeah wait. minute, so you were in the movie business for a little bit and then you took this other job, how come?

Yeah, that's how it was before I had another movie job after having my son, yeah, I read somewhere that you were pretty shy as a kid and you actually set a year to be brave like bold and daring and you took on things that maybe you didn't have. I always felt comfortable acting on television, you acted and it changed your life, it changed my life because I was willing to fail every day and once you

It's a hard realization to come to, yes, because I think saying it sounds good, but when Actually, you're in the middle of failing, you said you're not a great auditioner, you didn't like that part of the business, I didn't like it, but sometimes i got terrible comments from the beginning about this girl, why did you send her what was she? thinking what's going on and then I'd get another audition, you'd think with comments like that you'd say I'm not going, I'm not going to do it, yeah, I'm too scared, I can't do it, but instead because My agenda was to be brave.
I was like, hey, I'm going to go to this audition because it's scary, especially after getting that kind of response, yeah, but this is going to help me be brave, so it wasn't even necessarily a battle to get the right role, in a way. Anyway, that wasn't the secondary item on the agenda, the first was just showing up and being brave and you know the stakes got higher and higher when you received bad comments, one of them was Jerry Maguire. You auditioned and that's right, it was one of those where you said: what did you think? because you know there are certain things that can really damage your confidence.
Yeah, well, I have to say it was hard not to understand. Yes, because you already know. I had a little baby and I was a single mom trying to support him and that obviously would have been a big change in my life, but I really think it all comes down to the way you learn what you're supposed to do and everyone gets the knowledge they're supposed to. parts are very fun. I said that to Hoda

today

about you because you know over the last decade, or maybe longer, you've had these amazing roles and who knows if you got that role, you know what?
I know this is false. Renee Zellweger is a huge talent and I'm so glad she went on to be a huge star and yeah, I mean, Drew Barrymore came out for True Romance and she didn't, yeah, I have to. and that was a great opportunity for me and then they offered me something that I could and then Drew did it and that was great for her so I mean everything works out the way it's supposed to, yeah you can't really plan it yourself we have to do it . Talk about this cast, yes you can act with all of them.
I mean, I know they've said who they are too. Bernadette Peters. Christine Taylor said working with you was a dream. Oh, her too. What did Matt Dylan do? Who else tells us everything? Okay, so we. we have Brad Garrett, we have Matt Dillon, yeah, I grew up too, we all

watch

ed like The Outsiders, totally, he's so cute, yeah, and I never thought I'd work with him, wow, and it was as natural as Rupert's friends in this. It's hilarious, I mean honestly our cast is amazing, what a huge Class Act fan. It's great to see Patricia again.
You can watch episodes of High Desert on Apple TV, and if you're looking for some laps this weekend, we've got the show just for you. The last two seasons the other two viewers have fallen in love with Molly Shannon's portrayal of a mother who took advantage of her son's fame to become famous in a third season. Molly told Oda and Jenna what we can expect from Molly Shannon and Helena York, who star. the HBO Max sitcom that everyone is talking about the other two, yes, Molly plays Pat, a former talk show host, becomes the owner of the network and Helena plays her daughter Brooke, who is a talent manager.
You guys, this show is like lightning, yes, in a bottle, people love it, yes, Elena. What did this character have with you that you said? Okay, I'm in it. I think we're all kind of a mess and she does that for us. I think you know you're a person who dives headfirst into an empty pool uh maybe you don't necessarily think before you speak, it's a character that I think people like and I think people like the show because it's a family who truly love each other instead of fighting each other's necks. industry, would you believe that story Molly just told before the commercial break?
Did you ever hear that if she hadn't heard it, it was like I loved Hollywood? I love that too, so you were filming this with a three-month-old baby. three-month-old, yeah, I found an apartment for my mom about a couple blocks away and she lived here and took care of him while we filmed the third season. Don't you just want to eat it? Yeah, crazy, but I also heard that you really admired Molly. I mean, we've been talking to Molly about her motherhood and her advice, yeah, all morning. Great, Molly has always given amazing advice as always and we'd like to hear all your little nuances, like who you are.
I'm dating and I like what's going on and I really get into it and then, you know, when I had a kid, I came home from the hospital and there was this huge bag like a basket of Zay bars and I was like, Who sent me 500 bagels and It was Molly and he knew exactly what she would have needed in that moment between you. Is incredible. They have worked? Is this the first time we've worked? What does Helena have that makes her so special? Colleen is very funny first of all and she is very open, like I said we formed a quick and easy friendship because we talked about private things and that really helps with the on-screen relationship when you connect naturally and talk properly about dating. now marriage and you know, motherhood and kids and you have a fast, you know, and then of course, yeah, so you can translate that to acting, hopefully, and seeing Molly and how much she prioritizes her family. and his two children, he is like you.
I know you can get so stuck and like what this industry is and what we have to do and like it and, you know, I think what's really important is what's at home and she's always been an incredible example, thank you. I think we'll go with yes for anyone who missed it. It's like they don't always think the worst years are the teams because then you put it out into the universe and almost make it true. I feel like people who I think that can almost perpetuate that myth or whatever, yeah, no, guys this is amazing, it's always great to hear the very funny Molly Shannon.
You can see all the seasons of the other two on Max. Soon we will delve into the documents and a little. reality show too with a show that will take you around the world and another that has rocked the world of pop culture recently stay with us thank you oh foreigner welcome back to the pop star plus there is nothing like a program that introduces you to Unique Foods Padma. Lakshmi hosts not one but two shows that do exactly that on Hulu's Taste Of The Nation. She takes viewers across the United States to explore food cultures and how they relate to American identity.
It's a great show and on Bravo's Top Chef, of course, Padma guides the contestants through the challenges. who explore food in different cities season after season Padma recently stopped by for our third hour to catch us up on what's happening in her world. Look, it's a pleasure to have you here, so let's talk about trying out the nation. I think it's a wonderful concept. Because we have so many amazing immigrants in this country who can offer so much of their culture, so what have you found traveling the country? I learned a lot every day about how to test the nation.
I usually embed myself for a week in different communities across the country and learn about their culture and their food, but each episode also looks at a different aspect of the whole immigration issue, which to me is so integral and vital. not only for the founding of our modern Republic but also for its evolution as a superpower. I really believe it. That's why the United States is so dominant, not just militarily and economically, but pop culture-wise, you know. I've learned a lot just by going to Puerto Rico and visiting Cambodians in Lowell, Massachusetts, and we talked about how blackness in America is not a monolith. and go to Houston to talk to Nigerian Americans there, so it's just my way of saying, hey, let's get to know our neighbors.
I really designed the show not necessarily for people who think like me, but maybe think differently about these topics than I like. In the Lowell Massachusetts episode, you know Lowell was the town that really fell on hard times, like a lot of industrial towns in New England, and property values went down and, you know, stores were closing. Cambodian immigrants and refugees literally arrived with their shirts on. back and within a generation they have revitalized the community, you know, they have gotten rid of the drug problem and/or they have minimized and deeply minimized the gang problem as well and they have cleaned up the river, when was the last time you fished in an American river? well, no, that's good, it's also a window into what our neighbors are doing in a way that is addressed very peacefully and can learn from each other.
I love it, let's talk on that note in this season of Top Chef, the 20th season, but in the world. All-Stars, yeah, how cool is it that they're the best of the best competing against each other, right, yeah, I mean, we got to film the season in London and then we went to Paris for the finale and that was really wonderful. I think having finalists and winners from all the different franchises of the show around the world really made it more international, made it more diverse in a way that it never had been and so I think it's good for the show and it's also good for the competition you absolutely know you've been on television for a while now you know how competitive it is and that space, especially that genre of television, is very competitive and very crowded, plus what do you think Top Chef has made?
It's been so successful for so long. I think my producers do a lot of work behind the scenes that you don't really get to know about. I also think the stars of our show are the contestants and the cities we go to. We change cities every season and I think that revitalizes the show because it allows us to show you what regional American food is like. I would never be able to get a taste of the nation if I hadn't had the experience of going to all these cities and living there. for six weeks like Houston, where I went back to see the Nigerians for Taste the Nation, you know, like Charleston, where on the first season of Taste the Nation, I went back after being there with Top Chef to see the galagichi, yeah, people from Charleston with B.J Dennis. and all these things so for me it is a pleasure to be able to travel the country and the world with my Fork.
I've been very lucky to do it because I started doing it when I was a model and I never would have done it when I was young and I have the resources to travel to all corners of the world if I wasn't modeling and that of course allowed me to try the world andwriting the encyclopedia, for example, that is a dream. Who doesn't love Padma Lakshmi? Two great programs for the season. two of taste, the nation is on Hulu, you can watch them and also episodes of Top Chef you can watch on peacock now on a show where your friends are probably talking about Bravo's Vanderpump Rules for the last 10 seasons.
Having followed the lives of Lisa Vanderpump's staff on Lord, as they navigate friendship and romance in Los Angeles, the group recently made headlines this spring after it was revealed that two cast members were having an affair that ultimately ended to a 10-year relationship between stars Tom Sandoval and Ariana Maddox on the After the season finale, Ariana stopped by Hoda and Jenna to break it all down, you don't want to miss this, so we watched the end of this show, we watched the finale, so What I was thinking at the end. I wonder if you would. I would consider coming back for another season or if you've had enough of reality TV, um rules, yeah, I mean, that's not up to me.
I can't control any of that. I have no interest in talking to any of them. I have nothing to say and besides being in a room with them. I don't plan. Can you set those kinds of boundaries for yourself on reality TV? Not usually, but I'll try, yeah, I mean, are you devastated, yeah, I wonder. You know you've had it, we were talking before, you've had friends who have been here for you, for other people who have been through breakups like this, what advice would you give them and how to be your best self? I mean, well, therapy number one has always been very important to me in good times and bad, not just in a crisis, but I'm also someone who has always found it difficult to ask for help or accept help from friends when given it. they offer and I think That's the most important thing I can say is don't be afraid to ask or if someone says do you want me to come do you want me to do this it's okay to say yes, I actually think so.
I had friends who asked me that. question and I said okay and then my friend Meredith said well I'm outside so by the way open the door remember yeah I'm coming back on the show why do you want to come back for a second go around after all this? When I was watching what seemed very traumatic, why go back? I think, especially in reality TV, I think what's real is the most important thing and I think being able to tell my story will hopefully help other people connect. and relate what we've been through and I think that's actually been very helpful to me over the years because years ago when I was talking about my struggles with depression and anxiety and pain, I knew people who would come and they were saying.
It really helped me that you talked about it, but what I would say is that it really helps me that you said that because now I feel like I'm not alone. We were exactly talking a little bit in the commercial about the whole reality because I think some people must think that you know, you watch The Bachelor or something and you say these people must have known. The producers must have known that this was in the scene and you say no, no, uh, one of the first conversations I had outside of my immediate friend. The group was with our showrunner Jeremiah and he was as devastated as I was.
I mean, on some level, because these people that we work with on our show have become family and friends to us in many ways and I think a lot of people that work. On our show, our team, our producers, they were all maybe rumors or suspicions, but they didn't believe it. Well, you always wonder if there is a life, a love life, after something devastating and apparently there is, you have a new man. You found someone you like. You know I'm having fun and I would say I'm very happy. How did you meet? Yes. I met him at a wedding about 10 days after all this and no way. or I went into it thinking something and you know, I've been taking things very, very slowly and I've really enjoyed it and it's really lovely to interact with someone who is so nice and kind and charming and caring, that's a degree thing. a drama, you can enjoy all the episodes of Vanderpump Rules on peacock when we return, we will dive into the world of podcasts, stay with us, thank you, foreigner, foreigner, thank you, welcome back to pop star and now if you need new content . for listening this long weekend, we've got you covered Jesse Tyler Ferguson rose to fame as The Lovable Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family and starred in Buzzy projects like Good Fight and Cocaine Bear.

I've had the opportunity to work in some really fantastic restaurants in both New York and Los Angeles with some people that I love immensely and they are people that I already know at least in this first season. Yeah, but I'm getting to know them on a deeper level, uh, and I love the idea of a long conversation, like we have three minutes, but what if we had an hour, so many things would come up, yeah, and there's also something about being in a restaurant, yeah, where it disarms you, you're not like in a booth, you're not sitting, like in chairs, interviewing each other, like you hear the waiter approach, you hear us talking about what. we want to eat, you hear the specials, you know, you might hear a little bit of mouse sounds which may put some people off, but it's a conversational experience and you're the smart one, this is the third, the third person.
Have? I mean, there are always questions that open up, it's like a window into someone and sometimes when you podcast for a while, you say, Oh, that's my question, that's a good one, are there certain questions that you ask and feel? like illicit responses that give you information you didn't know about someone you knew well. stories. Taylor Lautner catapulted to stardom, of course, in the Twilight franchise, fans fell in love. I love everything about his Persona and then in 2022 he married his wife also named Taylor, the couple recently launched a podcast, The squeeze, which delves into fame and its impact on mental health and they told us all about about it in our third hour.
I still consider you to be a newlywed. How long have you been newly married? So you've been there for six months. It's been six months. We're just talking about this. It's six months. Six months. That's newlywed territory. So congratulations, thank you. How are you? You're in the newlyweds and then situation. you say, oh, let's do a podcast together. I mean, how did this come about? How did this come about? She woke up one morning and had the idea and I was like, "Oh, sure, honey, yeah, I love it." I mean she was uh she was a coven nurse um amazing and we just she had this idea and mental health has always been important to her and that's why you're on the front lines really yeah so what did you think could be your point of difference?
There are a There are a lot of podcasts out there, but what was your reason? Yeah, I mean, yeah, like she said, we both love mental health, but I feel like us together really gave a unique insight into me as a nurse, he grew in fame since childhood. he's a cool little thing since someone with a personal therapist and a couples therapist will save you a lot of therapy later to do your podcast. Now I want to ask you about the first couples shows because they were both. They interviewed first, but since then it's been like this avalanche of people coming to the show, like Maria Shriver and her son Patrick Lindsey Vonn, they were there, really big, who are the dream guests?
My new one is Matthew McConaughey. Don't know. I know why I love watching that, yeah, it's like listening to him talk How are you? What do you call these guys? I mean, I guess they're watching The Today Show Matthew McConaughey. I know where you are in Taylor Taylor. That's good as graduation. speeches like it's good, yes, good things, yes, good voice, that's a good one, yes, so you guys have a very good presence on social media. They talk to me. about like, say, tic tac where you call yourselves, you know your tailor, you call yourselves tay, but how big of a social media presence is with you guys, yeah, I mean, I just trust the girl Tay in this case.
I don't have a tick, I barely understand it, so I trust everything she says, we have to have fun, we talk about mental health, we talk about serious things, so yeah, we have to have fun with it, yeah, you go there, yeah , you dig deeper and we feel very honored because everyone. our guests have been able to be super vulnerable and talk about real things and you have to balance it. I like that you declare yourself Team Edward on tic tac. It's true that used to be what happened. I got married. Twilight fans around the world are freaking out right now, well you know I always feel great to see stars advocating for mental health, it's so necessary and important that you can find the squeeze on YouTube and wherever you listen to your podcast , that will help you.

Go ahead and cross that picnic lunch off your summer bucket list we just had. the guy who will help you fill your picnic basket Matt Abdus, the executive chef and owner of Pig Beach in Brooklyn and will soon also be in Long Island City and Palm Beach, Florida, this fall.
Congratulations. Thank you so much. We have a lot of exciting things coming up. the works we're really excited to be back here see you when you're looking thank you we're working on all this good health stuff you know but we're trying to get there but today we have some snacks and lunches on the beach what should we do? You say a crispy chicken wrap on the way to chicken salad? I love chicken salad and I know it's going to be controversial, but I also love grapes in my chicken salad. Some people like it if you don't put them on.
It's totally fine, but I also love to make it with roast chicken because it's like it's already cooked, who doesn't love roast chicken, it's cheap, it's everywhere, so everything we're going to do is going to be very quick, we're just going to take a little roast We divide the chicken into the breasts, the legs, the thighs and we are just going to cut the meat, there doesn't have to be anything fancy, just cut it into small pieces or pieces like that, yes, and then for the legs and thighs to shred the meat really, very simple, very, very easy, okay, save the bones because if you want to make soup later, you can put some water, carrots in the celery, make a chicken broth very quickly and what we have here is yeah , very easy.
Next, to cut our grapes, we're going to give this little trick that everyone loves. This is a great trick. You can use it for cherry tomatoes. You can use it with grapes. I'm not afraid. Containers that keep them in place and then you can. just serrated slices Jenna, look at you girl now, I'm so impressed, it was cut nicely in half and it's done, lean cut. I've never seen that, that's so cool, oh, high five right there, that's a great job, your sous chef, you're hired. Right now, in our bowl we're going to take the rotisserie chicken meat, the whole chicken, everything we have, we're going to put it in our bowl with some old mayonnaise, of course, and then to that we'll add, you know. a handful of grapes or something, whatever you want there I have some hot sauce, whatever your favorite is, yeah, a little bit of Dijon mustard, if you don't like Dijon, if it's too muchspicy for you, you can leave it out, you can put a little yellow. mustard in there if that's what you want some freshly chopped parsley wow fresh lemon juice I love bright citrus so chicken salad kind of wakes you up brings all those nice flavors and together some chopped shallots this can be cut sliced if not I don't have shallots and again some crispy crispy chicken salad wraps.
We have some smoked nuts to crush those grapes. I thought you were going to put some chips in there, wait, wait, we're getting there, at least some chopped celery, so it's pretty much standard. chicken salad, it's a beautiful amount of salt and pepper, mix it all together and then we'll slide it down and put it in our wraps. These are great, any type of wrap is a great thing to bring to the beach just because they're self-contained, they're easy to eat, yeah, and once all of our meat is mixed together, we'll just take a good spoonful.
I have a spinach wrap here, but if you want tomato wraps or whole wheat wraps, whatever you can find, this is the trick guys, we'll take some kettlebell chips, oh yeah, we'll crush them right on top and just we'll wrap it to give that extra crunchy effect on the wrap oh man and the crispy chicken salad wraps bring it to the beach and you're good, fine and done, pair this with your grandma's this is the eggplant puree Grandma Ruth's smoked, it's basically slime. Ganoush is one of the things I grew up eating. I love it. You can prepare it.
Put it in a small Deli container. Put it in the cooler. Bring it to the beach. Make some pita chips or French fries or veggies. Dip it in and go. nuts and any good beach plant has to have a sweet drink at the end what do we have and what's better what's better than a blonde bar but these are Blondie bars from Big Spa Pig Beach let's do one of those soon eh you can we're over here The candy menu at Pig Beach right now is basically a white brownie, but in the middle we have some caramel chips and white chocolate chips to tie it all together, they are so delicious, easy and standalone.
No By the way, find out how to store these sandwiches so we don't ruin them, so the best way to do it, guys, if you are going to make these sandwiches before going to the beach, make them beforehand without the fries and then when you're done They are ready, open them again, place the fries so they don't get soggy and spam. They are so crunchy, basically, every bite is great for lunch. You get these recipes that you can head over to today.com food Matt, thank you so much, congratulations. so wait until we get back to break everyone, we love it, oh this is great, we're going on a picnic and I'm bringing a bunch of delicious things, so I hope you all show up with your Apple ready, okay?
Sure, I like this salad, it's always good to take on a picnic and everything is better with Bruschetta, so we're going to make a bruschetta pasta salad and you won't believe how easy it is, so this is what I made. According to the package instructions, I boiled and drained four cups of pasta. You don't want to make the whole box because I don't want to dilute the bruschetta and here I have a plum-scented tomato that you're going to cut into cubes. five of these super small ones and you can see them here because they're not that juicy, the juices yeah, they're not that runny, but you can use any tomatoes you have in your house, you just want to drain a little bit of the liquid. so you don't dilute the flavors so here I have five I'm going to put this so Dylan, why don't you add the one that will just be red onion?
Tell us about the pasta because it is not good so this is a protein pasta, you can make a pasta based on beans or lentils, there are many varieties, but really, if you want to stick with a regular one that is minced garlic, let's put yes, a little bit of salt, a little pepper. anyone that chases you, yeah, but except they'll eat it too, that's something that neutralizes, neutralizes and this is a little bit of extra virgin olive oil and the signature herb is going to be chopped basil and the more the better so you can mix that in. , oh, and that's balsamic vinegar, yeah, I'm really sorry, really good, this is really good and then you can mix this in, Dylan, and you can put in the option of grated parmesan cheese or some of these pearl mozzarella, yeah, and this It's what it looks like when you put it in the refrigerator and let all those flavors blend and I'm telling you, even the next day it gets better and better, yeah, and it's light and it's full of fiber and nutrition and protein, that It's really excellent.
The pasta too, yes. that's a protein, yes, exactly vegetables, sometimes you know when you cook with vegetables you worry that they will be too soft, how do you marinate them and how do you know when they are ready? So this is one of my favorite recent creations. it's a hearty veggie pesto hero so what I start with here we're going to make the marinade so this is just apple cider vinegar and you can also swap it out for champagne vinegar, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, now you I'm adding Italian seasoning, Jill. Add the salt and pepper, okay, we beat this and, while you beat it, you add a little extra virgin olive oil so that it emulsifies.
Yes, now I have the vegetables I prefer for this sandwich. eggplant artichoke zucchini red onion look how you say it I'm excited you mix this you let it marinate if you have time for about 30 minutes then you put it on baking sheets in a single layer, put it in the oven at 400 and let it roast, yes, 20 to 25 minutes, okay, then it's ready to prepare, so here we have a sandwich to share and I layer it with delicious roasted caramelized eggplant so this is also loaded with fiber and nutrients. These are our zucchini. I have red pepper. have artichoke, red onion and then to top it guys have about this, what's that balsamic glaze?

Here, regular flour, that's fine and then we'll start dredging and using the whole chicken. We use the whole chicken so you can ask your butcher to cut it into eight or ten pieces and then you can. just roll it through the flour and the fennel, a little bit of buttermilk, so we keep adding flavors that you can see and then we go down to this mixture and this is just ground corn flakes. I broke them up to get something that's so crunchy that's the secret and it's really cheap cornflakes, that's really the secret, cheap cornflakes, a little bit of cornstarch and a little bit of flour and that's it, to make it nice and dredge, and then we can put it directly into the fryer if not.
If you don't have a deep fryer you can put it in a Dutch oven at 370 25 degrees and you make a very good point about not crowding the fryer, you never want to overcrowd the fryer because then you will lower the temperature and if you want crispy fried chicken you will have to keep the temperature high So that it comes out, look at it, it's perfect and then so good, it has such good light, this is the lightest project, so juicy. I'm just sprinkling some fennel pollen on top, I mean, that's the trick. so good that it's not overpowering, it's like a subtle little flavor in everything What is it about fennel Aaron that you like so much?
I just like that little extra flavor, it's not just fried chicken, a little bit of fennel and it tastes a little bit summery, but then you add this other sauce and it makes it even more delicious. I love rhubarb. I love rhubarb, so rhubarb, a little sugar, a little vinegar and then we add some strawberries. You have a sweet and sour strawberry rhubarb that goes with your fried chicken and that's it. what you top it with, that's what you top it with, oh my gosh, Shortcake tastes as good as edible flowers and to go with your fried chicken, you should finish it off with a lemonade, so, this is just a Thai basil lemonade.
Thai Basil Lemonade, you just make a simple syrup. throw in the Thai basil, drink the sauce until you taste the sauce, wait, what is that base you just put in there? Thai basil lemonade, that's what it is, put this on and it's delicious and it's amazing, a little bit different, yeah, this is ridiculous, my mom's. Fried chicken is wow so this is on the restaurant menu just because no she's not looking this is on the menu this is not on the menu but maybe it should be on the menu it should definitely be on the menu , who knew before?
We arrived, I said Aaron, you have to open another restaurant and what did I say, maybe in Connecticut and what was your answer, no way, oh, she said and why did you do it. I think it's fascinating why you said no, because there's just no way. I feel like one restaurant is enough. I feel like I have four kid requests a year and she's only open for six months, but what you said was that I'm in it for the love, not the money. Ah, so that's another reason why we can. flavor next, yeah, Aaron French, thanks Aaron will be back in the third hour, we'll do the fried chicken again.
I'm kidding, let's do something else. By the way, buy these ingredients in these recipes and more from our sponsor Walmart scan the QR code or you can do it the old fashioned way today.com bar today's chart so you know that today I earn a commission on my purchases through our links greetings thank you foreigner foreigner thank you we have something special cooking This morning, friends, Anthony Poraski, one of the stars of the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series Queer Eye, is also a self-taught cook and a New York Times bestselling author. His latest cookbook is called Let's Do Dinner and he shares one of his recipes. for pasta salad and who doesn't love a good pasta salad, yes, after all those steps today, absolutely, starting with zucchini, yes, how do you marinate zucchini?
Marinating zucchini is a great way to introduce those vegetables for those kids, it's green like pesto, so what I do is I cut it really nice and thin. You can use a peeler like you would use for potatoes just to get the slices really nice. Mandolin, why not? Or mandolin would be good, but be careful with your fingers, yeah. So fast track, you've got a bunch of them here in a bowl and now we want to marinate them to soften them up and soften them a little bit because they're a little bit sharp and crunchy so lemon juice okay no lemon zest ingredient that comes with lemon is never wasted, it's good on anything, it's okay, almost anything, a little olive oil, that's simple, a little salt that will release some of the moisture and let it sit for about 20 to 25 minutes, worth it, okay, not necessary. wait because you're busy doing other things, okay?
So, once the zucchini is marinated, let's prepare the pesto. So Anthony likes bright pesto. I love bright pesto. Nothing saddens me more. Well, maybe a couple of things too, um like. Yes my dogrevered like Jaime Harin and Vin Scully, you are a Dodgers announcer, that has been assimilated, not at all, not having grown up as a fan. of sports broadcasting, I am aware of the lineage that I am now a part of with this franchise, which means a lot not only in Los Angeles or in baseball but in sports, but for the fourth generation of Japanese Americans to get that seat is bigger than baseball Nelson is the only Asian American play-by-play announcer working for an MLB team, that is the aspect of my professional life that I will cherish most now and will forever.
There is so much honor that Major League Baseball estimates. more than a fifth of the club television announcers in the booth are from diverse backgrounds for English-language coverage, the percentage is half that, including award-winning Dave Sims of the Seattle Mariners, who told Nelson all the days, show your face, man you represent, you represent yourself representing yourself. Asian Americans like me Nelson have played almost every role in sports broadcasting before coming to the NHL and MLB networks in 2021. He used the Japanese he learned as a child to present an award to the pitcher Los Angeles superstar Shoheheotani, an international superstar.
In his big newborn, Nelson is building a reputation that even has the opposing team cheering for him. How would you describe Stephen as a traitor? Obviously you know he's a Tritt, no joke, he's a great guy, a humble guy, the role model for a lot of people, etc. The kids you know want to broadcast play by play have someone to look up to, whose value Dave Roberts, the first Asian Heritage manager to win a World Series, understands that we're talking about diversity, equity and inclusion. being the only one who talks about how talented he is but also talks about how far we have to go what is your hope in this role try not to suck no I hope I can do it this is going to sound so Asian I just don't I don't want to disappoint my Parents, oh man, my family never leaves, no matter how old we get and I really want to say that my only goal is to make them proud.
I want it to be about proving that the people are right, the people who have been there for us and who have sacrificed for us, helped us, advised us and taught us. I want to show that they are behind a family-owned business that has been serving a taste of Japan here in the US for over a century. Stay with us. Thank you. Welcome foreigner. For a boost as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a special store has been offering a taste of Japanese culture for 120 years. Jacob sobrov tells that story. I can't even imagine how many pounds of rice, rice flour and sugar have been lost. through these doors, but probably much more than we could imagine, the year was 1903, Teddy Roosevelt was president, the Wright brothers were about to launch their first flight and this Mochi store opened in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles.
Grandparents love being grandchildren here and thereafter. more than three, four, five generations come here or have them get their candy. It is a very memorable place and very spiritual for many people. Brian Keto is the third generation of his family to own fugetsudo Sweet Shop, a beloved store in the community for the past 120 years. There's nothing shiny or new here, in fact, Brian says it's the simple sound of the old wooden box packed with colorful suites that keeps customers coming back. Remember to take a look at this level of love here and measure how they were when they got here, the little cakes. made with sweet rice, mixed, pounded, rolled, stuffed and decorated, all on site.
Mochi generally comes in two forms, one is a white Mochi which is like a dumpling and we use it for ceremonial things like New Year's Day, the other Mochi is a sweet Mochi and the soft and sweet one and most of the Sometimes it has a sweet bean paste that is filled with red beans or white beans. The keto family's history with sweets began with this man. Grandpa said ichikito, he trained in a company called fugatstow, but fugits is something like that. synonymous with this type of business, so there are many shops with the same name means Moon, so it is wind and moon.
The Mochi store became a staple of a thriving Japanese community in Los Angeles for more than 35 years until World War II, the family was evacuated. to Heart Mountain Wyoming and imprisoned in camps there and were there for four years. Grandpa actually made pies in the field. It was kind of a comfort food. The Keto family was one of more than 125,000 Japanese Americans detained during the war. Brian, Roy and Kazuko's parents met. and they got married at Heart Mountain, returned to Grandpa and stayed at the local church because they had no money and it took them almost a year to restart the store.
Roy Keto reopened the business in 1946. And Brian's first memories were made here in In the store they just put a blanket there and made me sleep there like when I was about four or five years old. It's always been family and friends, he says, who helped the store survive and thrive during The Rush season, during the holidays. here mom dad aunt uncles cousins friends family friends we are working 24 hours a day uh between Christmas and New Years while I was going to school I would come after school and work here until I finished, it was quite exhausting because I worked six days a week and You didn't come home until you finished work.
Ryan took over in 1980 and promised his father that he would run the store until his 100th birthday, weathering harsh storms like the Los Angeles riots, which increased crime and the pandemic. I compared the challenges against me to those experienced by my grandfather and father, as many customers say that the small vintage shop is the right place for their sweet tooth. I don't think my grandfather or my father would have ever dreamed that this store would be celebrating 120 years. I am quite surprised that I am still here Christians to enjoy Yosemite National Park and there is a park ranger keeping their memory and contributions alive.
I started working here because I really wanted to learn more about the environment. sharing this place with people, so stumbling upon this research and realizing that this story hadn't been told for so long, it seemed like a great opportunity to shed light on something that I think is really important. Yen Yen Chan is a Chinese. American park ranger in Yosemite National Park, a place he has loved since he interned here in 1993. Why didn't he know about this story? I was born and raised in San Francisco, we used to come to Yosemite and I didn't know anything about it.
I didn't either and I grew up in Los Angeles, from logging to highways to railroads to laundromats to kitchens to hotels. Thousands of Chinese immigrants were the essential workers here in the late 19th century, so Yin Yen, these people are really amazing driving around here for decades and then there's this gem, what is it? This is the original Chinese Laundry building built in 1917 and it was the Wawona Hotel Laundry and how did you find it? It was not used as a laundry, it was used as a storage shed for a long time. Last year, the laundry building was completely restored and is just one part of the park's broader history that Yen Yen helps preserve.
Almost 30 years ago I was an intern and that was when I first heard that the Chinese were responsible for building this incredible highway through the High Sierra. Connecting people across this mountain, another major road still in use today is a 23-mile stretch that 300 Chinese workers started in 1874 in the dead of winter with nothing but hand picks, wheelbarrows, and shovels. It was completed in less than five months and leads here. This hotel, the oldest in the park, part of our mission at the National Park Service is to tell the natural and cultural history of this country and not all of these stories are pretty or beautiful fleeing poverty and environmental disasters in China, the workers came to America during the gold rush but life didn't always go well because they expected to face so much discrimination while they were here, the Chinese were one of the main targets of these really racist laws, they weren't allowed to become citizens and there were a period where they could not testify in the court system and women were also largely excluded, which also made the Chinese year for starting families difficult.
Despite all the difficulties, the workers also contributed their extraordinary cooking skills to the park's chef, Tai Singh. He cooked in the backcountry in 1915 for officials who came to Yosemite to determine whether the National Park should receive government funding. He made their experience so memorable that these people campaigned and convinced Congress within a year to form the National Park Service. on the kitchen porch of the Wallon and IU hotel he often sat here on a chair. Another beloved Yosemite chef was IU, who was head chef at Wawona for 47 years. What do we know about IU? He was so revered in the kitchen we're talking about.
The first farm-to-table chefs of at least that era, the Chinese were actually responsible for many of the fresh vegetables and fruits grown here. Union's research is attracting visitors to the park. A fan even stopped us and asked for her autograph. Thank you so much. I think all Asian Americans and Americans should think about this history and be proud of the contributions they made here and the fact that we have this National Park is in many ways due to their hard work in making this place accessible to the public. public and spread the story of Yosemite below The culinary couple behind one of the best restaurants in Chicago and the world after this everyone, thank you, welcome back, today we honor aapi Heritage Month and what better way to Celebrate it with an amazing meal.
Let's meet the chefs and owners behind the popular Chicago spot in the morning lines outside the Chicago Eatery with customers eager for freshly made chocolate croissants and at night, Kasama is one of the city's most popular dining reservations, The restaurant that opened in 2020 is the brainchild of husband and wife team Tim Flores and Jeannie Quan, its name meaning together in Tagalog and perfectly sums up their culinary collaboration. Jeannie oversees the bakery and Tim oversees the savory menu. When we think about new dishes or new cakes, we think about flavors together. It's kind of a joke that I'm a catastrophist and Tim is an idealist, so we balance each other out pretty well in April 2022.
Kasama made history as the first Filipino restaurant to receive a coveted Michelin star. We got the call and I said Genius. I think this is it and when we come together to answer the phone call we missed, it is a kind of validation of all the work our team has done; They received the prestigious honor just five months after debuting their tasting menu. The 13-course meal is inspired by Tim's Filipino heritage and features creative takes on traditional dishes. When we started thinking about the concept of kasama, I was thinking about what food would set us apart.
I needed to make something that meant something to me and something that I grew up eating and that is Filipino food. Tim's first memory is of Filipino food. Thanks to his mother, Lolita, I started cooking because the cafeteria food was very bad, so I started asking you about the adobo recipe and the beef steak recipe and the country house. friends every time I cooked like everyone, oh God, I said what did you put in your food. They think it's amazing when I started cooking professionally. Filipino food wasn't what I learned at all, so I never imagined cooking Filipino food professionally until we decided to open. our own place, this was our version of adobo, it's a source of great pride, you know, and I really wanted to come here and support, very, very proud, tell all my friends.
Our dream was always to highlight Filipino food and take it to the top. mainstream and somehow remove the stigma that Asian cuisine has to be cheap cuisine. We still use modern techniques with amazing ingredients. I've always thought that I don't want to open the best Filipino restaurant in the world. I want to open the best restaurant we can operate since its first wineries opened in the 1960s, Oregon's Will Lambitt Valley has become one of the world's premier wine regions and a newcomer is now making history there; They say good wine gets better with The Age of the Chosen is that exciting to watch, oh my gosh, I understand Jazz about this, yeah, oh this is amazing, even the first shoots of your future cellar are a sweet reminder of how they got here while breaking barriers along the way, I don't believe.
We set out to be like the face of the Asian American winemaker, but as we move forward, we realize thatWhat we are doing is something really important. Dave and Lois Cho are the first Korean-American winemakers in Oregon, according to the Regional Wine Association, and they proudly show it on each of their bottles. Initially, when we named our winery, we weren't going to name it after ourselves. Will anyone buy a wine with the name Asian American or Asian and at some point like it? we just said to ourselves let's do it let's embrace it and be ourselves, they are now part of a small club of aapi vintners, there are only a few dozen in the country, yes, beautiful color.
Indian-American winemaker Raj Parr launched Sandy Wines in 2011 and is now a global SAR in the industry 20 years ago you wouldn't pair wines with Chinese or Korean food, Indian food, the industry is not exclusive, it should be inclusive, but often Asian immigrants have been overlooked in sharing the history behind the wineries. In the West, in the mid-19th century, Chinese workers in the Sonoma Valley cleared land to grow harvested grapes and dug wine caves by hand nearly two centuries later in the Willamette Valley. The importance of this innovation is not lost in the election. I just want to say thanks.
It took the entire team about a decade to turn their dream into reality. Dave went from singing in a winery to learning the craft at Oregon State. Lois left her job as a nurse practitioner to become CEO of Cho Wines. Meanwhile, a pandemic and you join in. I have created an unusual mix. We said you know some people are redoing their houses. Why don't we start a winery? One Person Operated Winery I mean we're trying our hardest, you know, but at the same time, it's a great opportunity that we have today, we're starting from scratch, but these days a little extra help isn't too hard to come by. our kids will help us put labels and logos on it, but our club members get it, it's all crooked and stuff like that and we thought our five-year-old son made this and we love it, yeah, again.
They chose are making a name for themselves by earning a place among the best wines of 2022 for wine enthusiasts. How does it feel to be drinking your product when you finish your product project and then if you can drink it, it's a nice feeling, right? Alright, greetings everyone, raising a glass to the fruits of your labor and you are starting business for today's Sunday Kathy Park Willamette Valley Oregon stay, we have more good news for you right after this foreign foreigner, welcome back to Boost. I have one last fun video for you to watch. Kindergarten graduation can be an exciting day for any young student, but there aren't many kids who bring the same kind of excitement to the ceremony as the middle girl. going through the motions listen, I see pictures, she's in her own little world, it's not like she's trying to show that she's very happy, right, and everyone, no one is even paying attention, right, I love it, thank you so much for joining us in this special edition of Boost as we celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month see you next time here today all day welcome to today every day we are adding to the star power in our studio the biggest names important Just today, let's say we wouldn't arrive so early.
Well, everyone today is saying, "I won the lottery, how do you feel at this age? This liberated stage, we'll just get started folks, nothing will stop with a snap. The kids are back." City guys, this has been fantastic, everything and everyone you're talking about today, this is how I know it's going to be a good foreign day, welcome back to pop start, also can you believe it's already the weekend of Memorial Day? The unofficial start of summer and if you happen to have some extra time on your hands this long weekend, don't worry, we'll break it all down.
We have shows where you can enjoy dramatic dramas and reality shows, even if you do a podcast, let's start with television, you know. Returning from roles in the middle of True Romance and Boyhood now Patricia Arquette is taking on an even more serious role in High Desert on Apple TV Plus in the show in which she plays a woman who decides to become a private investigator after the recent death of her mother Patricia. I stopped by Studio 1A and shared what we can expect. Tell us about the character you are playing. Yes, I fell in love with it when I read it and it was based on Marjorie, the sister of one of our writers, Nancy Fisherman, who had battled her addiction to her drugs. but at one point he said, you know, I think I'm going to be a private detective and she said you'd actually be great at that, so this is kind of a fictional dream of if Marjorie had survived and, yeah, she'd become a private detective, what would your wildlife be like, wait now, is it true that you actually have some experience in the pi department?
I've had a lot of small jobs along the way and one day I worked for a private council just one One day, one day, that was it, yeah, and while I was talking to Mark, who was supposed to be the person we were recording, I the microphone fell. Oh, they arrested you. Well, he left right away, so I grabbed him. because he had made a movie before it was at the beginning of my career and I ran to the bathroom and rewired myself oh my gosh, yeah, wait a minute, so you were in the movie business for a little bit and then you took on this other job.
How come yes, well, I started in the movie business and then I got pregnant and had my son when he was 20? Yes, that's how it was before I got another job in film after having my son. Yes, I read somewhere that you were pretty when you were a girl. shy and that you actually set out for a year to be brave like bold, daring and you took on things that you may not have always felt comfortable taking on, tell us that one was acting and it changed your life, it changed my life because I was willing to fail all days and once you look at something that scares you or you look silly or you get rejected and you say "well, this is something good that maybe I would like to have in my life, let me try it." and let me be willing to fail many, many times, that's a hard thing to do, yeah, because I think saying it sounds good, but when you're actually in the middle of failing, you said you're not a great auditioner and you didn't like it.
I didn't do that part of the business, but and sometimes I would get terrible comments from the beginning about this girl, why did you send her what was I thinking? What's going on and then I'd get another audition, you'd think with comments like that. I would go, I'm not going to do it, yeah, I'm too scared, I can't do it, but instead, because my agenda was to be brave, I thought, hey, I'm going to go to this audition because because it's scary, especially after getting that kind of answer, yes, but this will help me be brave, so it wasn't even necessarily a battle to get the right role, in a way that wasn't the secondary item on the agenda.
The first was just showing up and being brave, and you know the stakes got higher and higher when you got bad feedback. One of them was Jerry Maguire, who you auditioned for and right, that was one of those where you were like, what did you think? because you know there are certain things that can really hurt your confidence yeah well I have to say it was hard not to understand yeah because you know I had a little baby and I was a single mom trying to support him and that obviously would have done it. It's been a hugely life-changing thing, but I really think it totally works out the way you've learned what you're supposed to do and everyone gets the parts they're supposed to do.
It's very funny. I said that to Hoda today about you because you're over the last decade you know or maybe more you've had these amazing roles and who knows if you would have gotten that role then you know what I know this is false Renee Zellweger is a great talent and I'm glad a lot about her becoming a big star and yeah, I mean, Drew Barrymore was offered True Romance and she didn't do it, yeah, I had to do it and that was a huge opportunity for me and then they offered me something that I could and then Drew did it and that was great for her, so everything works out the way it's supposed to.
Yes, you can't really plan it yourself. We need to talk about this cast. Yes, you can act with everyone. I mean, I know they do too. I said who they are Bernadette Peters Christine Taylor said working with you was a dream oh she too what did Matt Dylan do who else tells us everything okay so we have Brad Garrett we have Matt Dillon yeah I grew up too we were all watching like The Outsiders totally, he's so cute, yeah, and I never thought I'd work with him. Wow, and it was so natural. Rupert friends, this is hilarious.
I mean, honestly, our cast is amazing. What a big Class Act fan. It's great to see Patricia. You can once again watch episodes of High Desert on Apple TV, and if you're looking for some spins this weekend, we've got the show just for you for the last two seasons. The other two viewers fell in love with Molly Shannon's portrayal of a mother. who took advantage of her son's fame by becoming famous for a third season Molly told Oda and Jenna what we can expect Molly Shannon and Helena York, who star in the HBO Max comedy that everyone is talking about the other two, yes, Molly he plays Pat, a former talk show host. presenter in turn, owner of the network and Helena plays her daughter Brooke, who is a talent manager, you guys, this show is like lightning, yes, in a bottle, people love it, yes, Elena, do you?
What was it about this character that they said, okay, I'm, I'm? I think we're all kind of a mess and she does that for us. I think you know, being a person who jumps headfirst into an empty pool. Maybe she doesn't necessarily think before she speaks. She's a character that I think people like and I think people like the show because it's a family that really loves each other instead of fighting each other in the industry. Would you believe that story Molly just told before the commercial break? I once heard that, if I hadn't heard it, I thought: I love Hollywood.
I love that too. So you were filming this with a three-month-old baby, a three-month-old, yeah, I found an apartment for my mom as a couple. a few blocks away and she lived here and took care of him while we filmed season three. Don't you just want to eat it? Yeah, crazy, but I also heard you really admired Molly. I mean, we've been talking to Molly about motherhood and her advice, yeah, all morning, great, Molly has always given amazing advice, as always, and she'll like to hear all your little nuances, like who you're dating and what what's going on, and really get into it and then you'll know when.
I had a son, I came home from the hospital and there was a huge bag like a basket of Zay bars and I thought who sent me 500 bagels and it was Molly Shannon who knew exactly what I would have needed at that moment, the chemistry between guys, it's incredible Have you worked? This is the first time you guys, this is the first time we've worked. What is it about Helena that she does to herself first? And she is very open, like I said, we formed a quick and easy relationship. friendship because we would talk about private things and that really helps with the relationship on screen when you connect naturally and talk properly about dating, marriage and you know about motherhood and children and you have a fast, you know, and then of course, Yeah.
So you can translate that to acting, hopefully, and see Molly and how much she prioritizes her family and her two children. It's like you know you can get so stuck and still like what this industry is and what we have to do and what we like. and um, you know, what's really important is what's at home and she's always been an incredible example, thank you, I say happy Mother's Day to everyone, oh my goodness, thank you again for being a father of mothers Teenagers was so beautiful and I think we'll just accept that yes for anyone who missed it, it's like they don't always think that the worst years are the teenage years because then you put it out into the universe and almost make it true.
I feel like people who think they can almost perpetually create that myth or whatever, yeah, no, guys this is amazing, it's always great to hear the very funny Molly Shannon. You can watch all seasons of the other two on Max. Coming soon, we will delve into the documents. and a bit of reality show too with a program that will take you around the world and another that is Rock for the world of pop culture. Recently stay with us, thank you foreigner, welcome back to the pop star. Plus, there's nothing like a show that introduces you to Unique Foods Padma Lakshmi hosts not one but two shows that do exactly that on Hulu's Taste Of The Nation.
It takes viewers across the United States to explore food cultures and how they relate to American identity. Take alook, it's a pleasure to have you here, so let's talk about trying out the nation. Think it is so. It's a wonderful concept because we have so many incredible immigrants in this country who can offer so much of their culture.
So what have you found traveling the country? I learned a lot every day about how to test the nation. I usually embed myself for a week in different communities around the world. the country and we learn about its culture and its food, but each episode also looks at a different aspect of the whole issue of immigration, which to me is so integral and vital not only to the founding of our modern Republic but to its evolution as a superpower . I really think that's why the United States is so dominant not only militarily and economically but also pop culture-wise, you know, so I've learned a lot just by going to Puerto Rico and visiting the Cambodians in Lowell Massachusetts and we talked about the Blackness in America, no. be a monolith and go to Houston to talk to Nigerian Americans there, so it's just my way of saying, hey, let's get to know our neighbors.
I really designed the program not necessarily for people who think like me, but maybe think differently about these issues. I like the Lowell Massachusetts episode. You know Lowell was the town that really fell on hard times, like a lot of industrial towns in New England, and property values were going down and stores were closing. Cambodian immigrants and refugees literally arrived with their shirts on their backs and in one generation have revitalized the community. They know they got rid of the drug problem or minimized and deeply minimized the gang problem as well and cleaned up the river.
When was the last time you fished? an American river, well, no, that's good, it's also a window to what our neighbors are doing in a very peaceful way and can learn from each other. I love it, let's talk about that on that note on this season of Top Chef 20. season, but World All-Stars yeah, how great is it that they're the best of the best competing against each other, right, yeah, I mean, we were able to film the season in London and then we went to Paris for the finale and that was really wonderful and I think having finalists and winners from all the different franchises of the show around the world really made it more international, made it more diverse in a way that it never had. had been and that's why I think it's good for the program and it's also good for the competition.
You know you've been on television for a while. Now you know how competitive it is and that space, especially that genre of television, is very competitive and very crowded. What do you think Top Chef is about? That's made him so successful for so long. I think my producers do a lot of work behind the scenes that you don't really get to know about. I also think the stars of our show are the contestants and the cities we go to. I like when we change cities every season and I think that revitalizes the show, it allows us to show you what regional American food is like.
I would never get a taste of the nation if I hadn't had the experience of going to all these cities. and I lived there for six weeks like Houston, where I came back to do the Nigerians for Taste the Nation, you know, like Charleston, where on the first season of Taste the Nation I came back after being there with Top Chef to see the galagichi, yeah, Charleston people. with B.J Dennis and all this stuff, so it's a pleasure for me to be able to travel the country and the world with my Fork. I've been very lucky to do it because I started doing it when I was a model and I would never have done it as a model. young person and have the resources to travel to all the far corners of the world if I wasn't modeling and that, of course, allowed me to taste the world and write the encyclopedia, for example, that's a dream.
Who doesn't love Padma Lakshmi? Two great shows, so the second season of the nation's delight is on Hulu. Look at that, you can also watch episodes of Top Chef on peacock now on a show where your friends are probably talking about Bravo's Vanderpump Rules for the past 10 seasons. It has followed the lives of Lisa Vanderpump's staff on Sir as they navigate friendship and romance in Los Angeles. The group recently made headlines this spring after it was revealed that two cast members were having an affair that ultimately ended a 10-year relationship between stars Tom Sandoval and Ariana Maddox, immediately following the season finale.
Ariana was stopped by Hoda and Jenna for breaking up. all down you don't want to miss this so we saw the end of this show we saw the end so I was thinking at the end. I wonder if you would, if you would consider coming back for another season or if you've had enough of reality shows um rules, yeah, I mean, that's not up to me, I can't control any of that, I have no interest in talking to none of them, I have nothing to say and also just being in a room with them, I don't plan on it, can you set those kinds of limits on reality TV?
Not usually, but I'll try, yeah, I mean, you're devastated, yeah, I wonder if you know you've had it, we were talking earlier. I've had friends who have been here for you, for other people who have gone through breakups like this, what advice would you give them and how to be their best self? I would just say that therapy number one has always been very important to me in good times and bad, not just in a crisis, but I'm also someone who has always found it difficult to ask for help or accept help from friends when They offer it to you and I think the most important thing I can say is not to be afraid. ask or if someone says do you want me to go do you want me to do this it's okay to say yes, actually I think so.
I had friends ask me that question and I said I'm fine and then my friend Meredith. It was like, well, I'm outside, so by the way, open the doors, yeah, back to the show, why do you want to come back for a second? Go run after all this as I was watching it which seemed very traumatic. Why go back? I think that. um, especially in reality TV, I think the real thing is the most important thing and I think being able to tell my story will hopefully help other people to be able to connect and relate to what we've been through and I think that's actually been very helpful to me over the years because years ago when I was talking about my struggles with depression, anxiety and pain, I knew people who would come up and say it really helped me that you talked about it, but what I would say. them is it really helps me that you said that because now I feel like I'm not alone exactly, we were talking a little bit in the commercial about the whole reality because I think some people must think that you know you watch the Bachelor or something and say that these people he must have known.
The producers must have known this was in the picture and you're like no, no, uh, one of the first conversations I had outside of my immediate friend group was with our showrunner Jeremiah and he was just as devastated as I was. I mean, on some level, because these people that we work with on our show have become family and friends to us in many ways and I think a lot of people who work on our show, our crew, our producers, they were all, such Maybe they were Rumblings. or you suspect, but they didn't believe it, well, you always wonder if there is a life, a love life, after something devastating and apparently there is, you have a new man, you found someone you like, you know, I'm having fun. and I would say that I am very happy, how did you meet?
Yeah, I met him at a wedding about 10 days after all of this and in no way did I go into it thinking about anything and you know, I've been taking things very, very slowly and I've really enjoyed it and it's really wonderful to interact with someone. who is so nice, kind, charming and affectionate. Now that it is a top notch drama you can enjoy all the episodes of Vanderpump Rules on peacock when we come back we are going to dive into the world of podcasts stay with us thank you foreigner thank you thank you welcome back to pop star plus now if you need new content to listen this long weekend, we've got you covered Jesse Tyler Ferguson rose to fame as The Lovable Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family and starred in Buzzy projects like Good Fight and Cocaine Bear.
Most recently, today he will take on a new role as host of Dinners on Me. It's a podcast where he has a conversation over dinner. featuring some of the biggest names in entertainment, music, politics and sports, Jesse joined Hoda and Jenna to share what you can expect, Jesse, this is such a beautiful concept, the best conversations happen over a delicious yes , so tell us. um, yeah, it's exactly that, um. It wasn't great, I wasn't looking to do a podcast, it was an idea that was presented to me and they thought I would be a good host and I'm so glad I said yes, I've already gotten the opportunity to do some really fantastic restaurants both in New York and in Los Angeles with some people that I adore immensely and they are people that I already know at least in this first season, yes, but I am getting to know them in a deeper way. level uh and I love the idea of a long conversation like we have three minutes but what if we had an hour like so many things come up yeah and there's also something about being in a restaurant yeah where it's taking apart you're not like in a booth you're not sitting like in you know chairs interviewing each other like you hear the waiter coming you hear us talking about what we want to eat you hear the specials you know you might hear a little bit of mouse sounds which might put some people off but it's as if it were a conversation and you are the smart one, listen to the third person, I mean, there are always questions that open up.
It's like a window into someone and sometimes when you podcast for a while you say, Oh, that's my question, that's a good one, there are certain questions you ask that seem illicit, answers that give you information you didn't know. Someone you knew well. I'm still learning and maybe you can give them some

stories. Taylor Lautner was catapulted to stardom, of course, in the Twilight franchise. Fans fell in love with everything about his Persona and then in 2022 he married his wife, also named Taylor, the couple recently launched a podcast The squeeze that delves into fame and its impact on mental health and tells us They told everything during the third hour.
I still consider them to be newlyweds. How long have you been newlyweds? We've been there for six months. It's been six months, we're just talking about this, it's six months, six months, that's newlywed territory, so congratulations, thank you, how are you? You're in the newlywed situation and then you're like, oh, let's do a podcast together, I mean, how was it? How did this come about? She woke up one morning and had the idea and I was like, "Oh, sure, honey, yeah, I love it." I mean, she was a coven nurse. Amazing and we just had this idea and her mental health has always been important to her and so you're on the front line, really yeah, so what did you think your point of difference could be?
There are many podcasts available, but what was your reason? Yeah, I mean, yeah, like he said, we both love mental health, but I feel like being together really brings a unique view of me as a nurse, of him growing in fame since childhood, so it's kind of cool as someone with a personal therapist and a couples therapist is going to save you a lot of therapy later to do your podcast uh now I want to ask you about the first couples programs because it was you two who interviewed each other first but since then it has been like this Avalanche of people who came to the program as Maria Shriver and her son Patrick Lindsey Vonn were there. um, really big ones, who are the dream guests?
My new one is Matthew McConaughey. I don't know, I can see it, yeah, it's like hearing him talk. How are you? What do you call these guys or I mean, I guess they're watching The Today Show Matthew McConaughey? I know where you are at Taylor Taylor has some good graduation speeches like it's yeah good stuff yeah good voice that's a good one yeah so you. The boys have a very good presence on social networks. Many of you know that some people make fun ofothers. They know it, especially they know it for you. tay, but how big is the social media presence with you guys?
Yeah, I mean, I only trust the Tay girl on this one. I don't have a tick. I barely understand it, so I trust everything she says, we have to have fun, we talk. about mental health we talk about serious things, so yeah, we feel very honored because all of our guests have been able to be super vulnerable and talk about real things and you have to balance it. I like that you declared yourself Team Edward. in tic tac it's true that used to be what happened. I got married. The Twilight fans of the world are going crazy right now.
Well, you know, it always feels great to see stars advocating for mental health. It is so necessary and important. You can find it. the squeeze on YouTube and wherever you listen to your podcast, well, that'll do it, you're welcome, let's wrap it up for today. I hope we were able to know, take some time and show what you can hear and watch. This long weekend kick back and enjoy some of those shows we just covered and of course we'll see you next week. I hope you have a great long weekend, thanks for watching. Okay, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no the weather is going to be good in your neck of the woods this weekend, go ahead and cross that picnic lunch off your bucket list. summer, we've got just the guy to help you fill your picnic basket Matt Abdul is the executive chef and owner of Pig Beach in Brooklyn and will soon also be in Long Island City and Palm Beach Florida this fall.
Congratulations. Thank you so much. We've got a lot of cool things in the works we're really excited to be back here, good health stuff though, you know, but I'm trying to get there, but we've got some snacks on the beach and different lunches today, what should we do? You say: a crispy chicken salad with chicken wrap. I love chicken salad and I know it's going to be controversial but I also love grapes on my chicken sandwiches, some people like it if you don't put it in it's totally fine but I also love making it with roast chicken because it's already made . cooked Who doesn't like roast chicken?
It's cheap, it's everywhere, so everything we're going to do is very quick, we're just going to take some rotisserie chicken, divide it into the breasts, legs, thighs and just cut the meat. There doesn't have to be anything fancy, just cut it into small pieces or pieces like that, yeah, and then for the legs and thighs, shred the meat. Really, very simple, very, very easy. Okay, save the bones because if you want to make soup then with it you can put some soup water carrots onions celery make a chicken broth very quickly chicken broth and then what we have here is yes, super easy.
Then we'll cut our grapes, give it a little trick that everyone loves. It's a great trick, you can use it for containers of cherry tomatoes, hold them in place and then you can just slice them, Jenna, look at you girl, I'm so impressed, she cut it nicely in half and that's it, lean cut. I had never seen that. That's great, oh, that's a high five, right, that's a great word, you're a sous chef, you're hired, so now in our bowl we're going to take the rotisserie chicken meat, the whole chicken, everything we have, Lets put. We put it in our bowl with some old mayonnaise, of course, and then we'll add just, you know, a handful of grapes or whatever you want.
I have a little bit of hot sauce whatever your favorite is yeah a little bit of Dijon mustard if you don't like Dijon if it's too spicy for you you can leave it out you can put a little bit of yellow mustard on it if that's what you want a little bit of parsley freshly chopped wow fresh lemon juice I love bright citrus so the chicken salad gives it a nice touch of just waking up brings all those nice flavors and together some chopped shallots this can be sliced chives if you don't have shallots and again some crispy crispy chicken salad wraps, we got some smoked nuts to crush those grapes I thought you were going to put some chips in there, wait wait, let's get at least some chopped celery, so it's pretty much chicken salad standard, it's a beautiful amount of salt and pepper, we mix it all together and then we'll slide it down here and put it in our wrappers.
Now they are great. Any type of wrap is great to take to the beach, yes, just because they are self-contained, they are easy to eat, yes, and once. All of our meat is mixed together, we're just going to take a good spoonful. I have a spinach wrap here, but if you want tomato wraps or whole wheat wraps, whatever you can find, this is the trick guys, we. We'll take some Kettle Fries, oh yeah, we'll mash them up right on top and just wrap them up to give that extra crunchy effect to the wrap, oh man, and the crispy chicken salad wraps, take them to the beach and you're good very good and you're ready to go, okay, pair this with your grandma's great, this is Grandma Ruth's smoked eggplant puree, it's basically baba ganoush, it's one of the things I grew up eating.
I love it, you can. make it, put it in a little deli container, put it in the cooler, bring it to the beach, buy some pita chips or potato chips or greens, dip it in and go crazy, and any good beach plant should have a sweet treat at the end, right? what are you doing? we have and what's better, what's better than a blonde bar, but these are big, spawny bars. Pig Beach blonde bars, let's do one of those soon. Can? We're close to the candy menu at Pig Beach right now, they're basically a white brownie. guys, but in the middle we have some caramel chips and white chocolate chips to bring it all together, self-contained and easy.
By the way, without making a mess, how do you store these sandwiches so you don't ruin them? That's the best way. To do it guys, if we are going to make these sandwiches before going to the beach, make them without the fries and then when you're ready, open them again, put the fries on the fries, don't get them soggy or scale well. and crunchy basically every bite it's great to have this for lunch you get these recipes you can head over to today.com food Matt thank you so much congratulations it's great to be back on break everyone would love oh this It's great and we move on. a picnic and I will bring a lot of delicious things, so I hope you arrive with your apple ready, okay, so I like to see the salad, it's always good to bring a picnic and everything is better with Bruschetta. so we're going to make a bruschetta pasta salad and you won't believe how easy it is, so here what I've done is, according to the package instructions, just boil and drain four cups of pasta, I don't want to make the whole box because I don't want to dilute the bruschetta and here I have a plum tomato Aroma.
You're going to cut up about five of these super small ones and you can do that right here because they're not as juicy as the The juices, yeah, they're not as runny, but you can use any tomatoes that you have in your house. You just want to drain a little of the liquid so you don't dilute the flavors, so here I have five. I'm going to put this in, so Dylan, why don't you put that in there that's just going to be red onion. Okay, but tell us about the pasta because it's not good, so this is a protein pasta.
You could make a pasta based on beans or lentils. There are so many varieties out there, but really, if you want to stick with the usual one which is minced garlic, let's put it in, yeah, a little bit of salt, a little bit of pepper, whatever's behind you, yeah, but except they'll eat it too, that's very kind. of neutralizes neutralizes and this is a little bit of extra virgin olive oil and the signature herb will be chopped basil and the more the better so you can mix that in, and that's balsamic vinegar, yeah, I'm so sorry, so good. it's really good and then you can mix this Dylan and you can put the option of grated parmesan or a little bit of these pearl mozzarella, yeah, and this is what it looks like when you put it in the refrigerator and let all those flavors blend together. and I'm telling you, even the next day it gets better and better, yeah, and it's light and full of fiber and nutrition and protein, that's really great.
Pasta too, yes, that's a protein, yes, exactly vegetables, sometimes you know when you cook with vegetables you worry. They are going to be too soft, how do you marinate them and how do you know when they are ready? This is one of my favorite recent creations, it's a hearty veggie hero with pesto, so what I start with here, let's make the marinade, so this is just apple cider vinegar and you can also swap it out for champagne vinegar, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, now I'm putting Italian seasoning on it, Jill, you add the salt and pepper, okay, let's beat this and while you're beating it, you're going to pour in a little extra virgin olive oil so that it emulsifies .
Yes, now I have my favorite vegetables for this sandwich. We have eggplants, artichokes, zucchini, red onion. I love how you say it. Yes, you mix this. let it marinate if you have time for about 30 minutes, then place it on baking sheets in a single layer, put it in the oven at 400 and let it roast yourself, yes, 20 to 25 minutes, okay, then you're ready to prepare it. Here we have a sandwich to share and I layer it with delicious roasted caramelized eggplant, so it's also loaded with fiber and nutrition. These are our zucchini. I have red pepper. I have artichoke hearts.
Red onion and then to put it on top, the guys have about this. What is that balsamic glaze? Omg and we're not done yet with some mozzarella just if you want you can keep it vegan if you choose delicious and last but not least there's pesto in the name pesto is the best yeah right bruschetta is better. and the pesto is the best on top, you close the sandwich, you slice it and guys, no one will be hungry, this is Joy, all about sandwiches, yeah, and I don't like vegetarian sandwiches, but we devoured this, you know what? what did you just do?
Dig in there, look at this, you put this on top, boom, I cut it into slices about an inch thick, I have to dig into this, it's so good, you know what I think it is, you roast the vegetables, you don't miss the meat, like some people miss. Yeah, it's not that good, wow, it's really good, yeah, nice to meet you, right? If someone wants to cut carbs, just eat with an open face. Yes, they are very easy dishes. Aaron, the French chef, owner of the Lost Kitchen restaurant in Freedom Maine, star of the Lost Kitchen on the Magnolia Network cooking these dishes can be easier, scan the QR code to order all ingredients with one click, select add ingredients to cart and then schedule a pickup or delivery. Erin clearly, the table is so delicious that it has become the entire show today. favorite pretty quick no hey it's easy with fried chicken because this is what the bar with fried chicken for a lot of people is pretty spicy so it looks amazing so walk us through the first step the secret of this this It's fried chicken with fennel. which is a little bit of a different spin on things so it starts with the brine and that's the real secret so the brine will just add flavor and keep it juicy so we just brine it overnight it has a little fennel seed. we get some black pepper, some bay leaves, some sugar and then we cook it in brine just to cook it in brine, you let it sit overnight and then you cook it just because you don't want to have that raw fried chicken when you're moving here so it's already cooked so you don't have to be scared so you have all this tasty and ready to go and then all you have to do is dredge it and fry it so Craig if only What I want to add is a little ground fennel, more subtle, take it well and that will make it nice and tasty.
This is just regular flour. Here, regular flour, okay, and then we'll start dredging and you'll use the Whole Chicken We use the whole chicken so you can ask your butcher to break it into eight or ten pieces and then you can dredge it in the flour and the fennel, a little bit of buttermilk, so we keep adding flavors that you can see. and then we go down to this mixture and this is just ground corn flakes. I just split them, I was wondering or something, it's so crunchy, that's the secret and they're really cheap cornflakes, that's really the secret, cheap cheap cornflakes, a little bit of corn. starch and a little bit of flour and that's it, so it's well dredged and then we can put it right in the fryer, if you don't have a fryer, you can put it in a Dutch oven at 375 degrees and you make a real Good point about not crowding the air fryer, you never want to overcrowd it because then you're lowering the temperature and if you want crispy fried chicken you have to keep that temperature high so it comes out, look at it, it's perfect and then so good it's so good it's light it's just the lightest project so juicy I'm just sprinkling some fennel pollen on top I mean, that oneI feel like it's very, um, it's fortuitous that you ask a Brit to eat my Sunday rice, cook it in beet fat, but this is a yes, I'm using melted butter here, and then I'm just going to put in my whisked dry ingredients. , it's like a humidity, okay, that's exactly it. but when they come out of the oven, they're actually huge, like you saw before, they deflate a little bit, but there's a lot of things I don't know about shrinkage, Jerry, like accurate casting, so I mixed it all up. into a pour over tin, now here's the key to Yorkshire pudding, the key to pop overs, do you want to preheat this pan?
This is a fancy popover pan, you don't need it, you can use a muffin pan, that's fine, but you can see it's already there. melted butter sizzling on the bottom because I've preheated it take it out of the oven and immediately while it's still hot pour it three quarters of the way because you don't want any problems to arise that's right because they have an excuse yeah and that's the name um like that that you pour it and then you put them in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes at 4 25 and they come out so puffed that they serve immediately that is, they already have them, they make dishes but they are second and delicious, you are happy, Nicholas, and then you have a extra, much better than crickets, this is my Sunday roast, it's incredible, this is the best interview you've ever had, without a doubt, I'm very happy, it's taking a bad taste from crickets.
Nicholas came to play. I like it. Alright. Gail. Thank you so much. Nicholas. Thank you so much. Thanks for these recipes, head over to today.com.
