Theon 911 driven | A supercharged Porsche? | Autocar

Mar 24, 2024
I know there are other cars besides the Porsche 911 that you could Modify Resto, which means restore and modify, but Porsche makes a lot of cars, a lot of racing cars and with simple instructions that tell you how to weld them and with mounting points for widths. Racing suspension already installed, they lend themselves perhaps more than any other car. This is one of the latest designs by Theon from Oxfordshire, England, he has been making it for the last six years. It's based on a 964 and its customer said he wanted a car that was good for both Saturday morning outings and long trips around Europe, and since he's a fan of all Jaguars, he likes superchargers, so he buys one.

There is a roadtrex centrifugal supercharger where the air conditioning pump used to be which is now in the front while the engine has been rebuilt with fluid imported heads, a lightweight bottom end and an independent throttle body. Power is 400 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. There are composite panels inside and out and the Theon weighs 1,265 kilos less than the original 1,350. It is beautifully finished as well, it could be for around half a million pounds which will cost you once the donor car and taxes are paid. The question is what it's like to drive well, so welcome to the interior of this Theon-modified 964 and what I like about the old one.

More Interesting Facts About,

I like the 911 from a lot of older cars, it's actually the fact that the visibility is fantastic, the visibility is really good, it's a compact car, you can see the type of two wings and you can really point the car towards the road using them as indicator. How wide it is, it's a little wider than even a 964 turbo, it's about 10k wider on each side, but you wouldn't know it to look at it, and it certainly doesn't feel like a wide car to drive. it's gotten wider, heavier, not necessarily harder to see, but there are more of them everywhere, this just has that lovely compactness of an old car without feeling in any way like an old classic car, the frame feels stiff and rigid.

Everything feels like it has that. sort of like a Porsche or Integrity, almost like today's Pusher Integrity, only the control weights are solid, it's got a really nice mid-weight responsive steering gear, a fantastic five-speed 'box and it's really precise and only if you are something like that. Going from reverse to First, would you ever not necessarily put it in the right position? You understand that it's just a lovely gear change and because the engine is responsive, I'll talk a bit more in a moment, it's so linear and electric that it's really easy to patch the revs as well.

Brake pedal feel is stiff. The pedals are slightly offset to the side, but not by much. All of that combined makes it a tremendously easy car to sit in, settle in and feel comfortable in. It would have the car shrinking around you, so once you've settled in, take in the beautifully made surroundings, it's really lovely, the stitching is perfect, the material quality is really good. A lot of the stuff was taken out and replaced with carbon fiber and then put in some sort of leather. It is applied on the top and ends on the top, so this card weighs about 1200 kilos, but it also took a long time to make, six thousand hours of work inside and out, but that means that the owner of this I wanted a car that they could drive, it's kind of like a GT car and the interior certainly has that kind of vibe, it really has this kind of relaxed, well-finished feel, there's nothing raw or too raw about it in any way and so , as far as the way it drives, and like I said, the owner wanted a GT type car.
God, it drives wonderfully, it dries very very well with some kind of 911 Rest modifications, they move things from back to front the way that well. works, they've moved a lot of the fittings from back to front to match the weight and then put a hugely wide track in the front, the idea behind it is to make it feel less like a traditional 911 if as you know, try to match the white balance, improve turning and make it less lively at the rear when exiting. Theon hasn't tried to make this less of a 911, he's just tried to increase the sharpness of the character.
The 964 is a fairly calm, quite relaxed, quite smooth 911. Adam, who does it, this guy just tried to amp up all the kind of spicier parts while he maintains some of that everyday coldness and coldness to make it work at five. -Stage adjustable suspension so you can firm it up if you want, but on roads like this and these are bad, bad, in the South of England, Rose, where something happens on this side of the road that's different to this side, the tarps They are all removed. It's tight, it's curvy, this is really good, it's really good, the body control is absolutely firm, but the ride is so perfectly supple, you kind of hit potholes and drain covers and things like that, and there's no crash, there's no thud or thumb, it just slides. things and yet the body movements are very well tied, the steering has that kind of medium weight characteristic of the 911 most of the time, but it wakes up a little when you put some weight on the front when braking, it it lightens up a little bit under load and it's just got that kind of balance where you're aware that there's an engine in the back and what engine, so it's really nice to even do that just to lower it because you're braking and because you feel the Brake.
It's so solid that it's easy to cure until the response is beautiful, it's so easy to drive an analog car, this analog really smoothly, that's something, but anyway, what I really want you to do is 2000 revolutions, now the owner wants the chatter of the supercharger to remind you He is

supercharged

because you don't really hear too much noise on the way up, but there is that chatter on the advance which I prefer, I must say I like it better, the most important thing is that the owner wants it and it is simply like that. it starts early and pulls with brilliant linearity, a kind of real rage if you will, because there's a little button here that I'll give a push and some valves open on the exhaust.
Now you don't want that all the time, I don't think, but every once in a while, on the right track, he just adds a little extra fruit. I think most of the time I would drive it in the gt-ish style of it, it still sounds great even with that exhaust. Closed, this is a completely well sorted car, well finished, very interesting to drive, it's just a great sports car, a really great sports car. I really like it, it's beautifully made for half a million pounds or so, it's a lot of money, but so is everyone. of these cars there are a lot of these Resto mods if you want to call them that, I mean that's what restored modified cars are, there are a lot of them.
I've become much more picky about them because there are so many of them these days. this is really good this is really really good the owners have a lot of money everyone has big car collections they want the cars to do a specific thing this one does it and does its job very well absolutely fits on purpose I really like it I really like it like it, so thanks for joining me. We have plenty of other videos here on Sky's old YouTube channel, including Resto mods. In fact, I really like this video. There is a Tut Hill Porsche 911, a gtar for alcoholics and a Jensen Interceptor made by someone anyway, there are a good number of other videos.
